Ignore the film, my query relates to that potential that many of us are aware of, which can illuminate a moment, or provide clarity when there was none.

For those with experience, did it take long to get used ‘it’??
For those without, do you believe in that sixth sense you read of and others speak of??

I feel that most people out there have lost their ability to tune into their 6th sense. I have been fortunate enough to have parents who believed that everyone has a 6th sense and can strengthen that ability by keeping an open mind and meditation and by practicing and exercisig their ability. I am an empath. I know what people are feeling. I am unable to go into public places because it is truly overwhelming for me. My being an empath has given me great understanding towards my children especially as babies. I was able to feel what they were needing and was able to strive as a mother because of this ability. It does effect my life considerably as I do not have great control over this and sometimes what I am feeling is not my emotion but someone elses and it tends to make me come off as rude or in a bad mood. or some days I will walk into a friends house or family members house and break into tears and they feel the relief and I continue to cry where they were unable to. I am not really ure how to explain this with someone beign able to understand. But I think everyone has a 6th sense and the ability to strengthen it. I also think that you never get Used to it you just learn to control it better to adapt to your life.

I have had situations, however I am of the mindset that it could be just coincidence and not me possessing a sixth sense, because of the frequency of the incidents.

There is also the bond between a parent and a child, although I tend towards instinct and not sixth sense in those situations.

I come from a large family of people who seem to be clairvoyant. I personally get these feelings that something bad is happening to a close friend or family member. But the power seems to reside far more heavily in the woman in my family.

My Great grandmother was empathic. One example of this was on may 25th 1979 at 11:30 am she was taken to a hospital for sever chest pains 15 minutes later the pains stopped. the doctor ran several test to see if the could pin point what the cause was and could not find a single answer. so they said for her to call a family member to come pick her up and to stay with her in case it happened again. so she called her daughter in law (my grandmother) to come, only to find out that her son had just been found out in a scrap field crushed between a tractor scoop and a dump truck.

then there is my sister who seems these dark entities (she calls them demons) and has had bad things happen right after

Yes there is a bond between a mother and her child however I believe that there is a fine line between instinct and 6th sense. But I also believe you can not have one without the other.

I agree that experience cannot be "chalked up" with bond between mother and child. I think that experience comes into fact with your 6th sense and being able to strengthen that ability

I focus on two words in your opening statement, Angelus, namely "illuminate" a moment, and bring "clarity."

These are words that lend themselves to the definition of epiphany, and yes I have had a handful of those.

For me, the 6th sense is knowing that your perceptions are accurate, on target, that you're in the right place at the right time and registering all stimuli in real time. In a world of vagaries, contentiousness, and doubt this sense should not be underestimated.

It can happen in the workplace, in a relationship, in the dead of night when you hear a small hiccup from down the hall and know your child is in distress.

Just recently my daughter had Scarlet Fever, I took my daughter to the hospital where the doctor examined her and said that she had a rash.

I didn't feel comfortable with the hospitals explanation, so the next day I took her to the local doctors where he informed me that it was Scarlet Fever. This wasn't a sixth sense it was just intuition!

Last week I was driving down a lane full of black ice and I new that I had to be careful....as I approached a bend for some reason I slowed right down and pulled in closer to the side of the road. At the moment of me pulling in, a lorry came around the corner out of control. If I had stayed in the same position the lorry would of hit me.....sixth sense, no just intuition!

Today while sorting out the knives and forks for the draw I was drying the bread knife....just as I moved my right foot the knife fell and just missed my toes, if I had not moved my right foot it would have had a knife stuck in it...a sixth sense, no just bloody lucky!

I know there are many things that I would like to say 'hell yeah I have a sixth sense,' however being honest with myself I know this isn't the case.....unless I want to be romantic about it!

sometimes when i know someone is sick or dying the day before I have this really strong feeling that i need to go see them. I don't know if it is sixth sense or not. Maybe in instances like that you just know you should see them. The only other thing that was really strange that happened was when my great grandmother died me and my mother both woke up out of a dead sleep at exactly the same time. The exact same time my grannie died.

I know the sixth sense is real, I just don't believe that just about everyone and their mother that say they have it, actually do. Most of them are just B.S.'ers simply wanting acknowledgement that they (the individual) exist.

Society can easily learn this extra sense, its not that hard. But, it does sometimes take a lifetime to master. I have this "extra sense" but I only use it when it wants me too. I do know how to use it at all times, since it always works through me. But, it only works when it is needed, or I just work it when it is needed. Either way, things tend to go wrong or awry when I use it when its not needed.

I agree with Soulshroude. There are alot of B.Sers and bored housewives claiming to be full blown psychics for the attention and recognition, however I believe we are all born with our 6th sense turned on. Some lose it or block it out as society takes it's toll. There are definately ways to increase perceptions. Study, meditation, proper diet and excersize, discipline, concentration and patience.I however have spent my whole life trying to come to terms with it and asking why me?LOL.I am learning alot and find it really helps when I meet others in the same boat. My life is very colorful.I see it.Ever since I was a little girl I've seen and felt energy.I receive pictures, symbols, words, and most of all feelings when reading people. My sister is just like me.We are real close. We are both very sensitive and highly emotional. We study together and are forever learning new things. Some call it The Sixth Sense we call it having"the eyes".

Animals seem to have an ability to tell when a human is close to dying or is sick or depressed. They even seem to know when you're coming home and will wait for you at the door, before you've even shown up. If animals can 'sense' these things why can't we?

I think you just have to pay attention. Maybe the atmosphere changes, maybe the person's disposition becomes calmer as they come closer to death. Or the air around them is thicker from their misery.

Everyone has this ability to 'sense' these things because everyone has the ability to pay attention. The world you see isn't the only one that matters, it is also the one you feel.

As for 'clarity in a moment', I think that is just the power of your brain finally solving a problem or coming to a conclusion.

"maybe the sixth sense is an inborn ability that we are all given. Whether or not society has intervene can determine the duration of that ability."

For one, the "inborn abilities", this has already been an established for the duration of this thread. As for being established in society, this is still debatable.

As far as whether or not society has to intervene to determine the duration of that ability, this is completely FALSE. Society does not determine anything that is from within ANY individual. The individual determines whether or not the duration lasts longer then it should, by focus and or by wanting it when they are aware of it then turning it off if they are.

I beg to differ soulshroude. Society can have a huge impact on an individual, especially if that individual hasn't had the benefits of nuturing from, lets say a family like enviroment. One that encourages to be ones self and to trust in ones instincts. it's important to be able to develope ones unique individuality, but without the encouragement that its ok to do so, one could easily fall prey to the influence of society.

A certain sence has always run in my family, more so with the wemon. I had an unfortunate incident that brought me to the point of death, years ago, and in some strange manner made what one my call the 6th sence in me boom for a time. I made many predictions of deaths, which even at the time made me feel a little odd as if I was loosing my mind. I also developed an odd way of feeling people, or more so feeling their emoption when they were near to me. In a few incidents I was able to tell people of their childhood or incidents they had experienced by touching them. I never really got used to it, in fact I went out of my way to figure out how to get myself back to normal as per I really didn't like what I beileved was happening to me. Its been years ago now, but over the years I have learnt to except the fact I am a little differant now and use it more so to help than hinder my daily life. As per predicting deaths, I can't do that anymore, but I have retained the ability to sence others and often almost read them like a book.

Hi Angelus,

I've always had sixth sense when it comes to detecting spirts and energy in a place as most of family can do, also I'm fairly good with people in regards to determining what they are like, what sort of character/personality they have by looking at them even before they say a word. Not sure how, something in their aura perhaps or bad vibes??

The sixth sense is always there regardless of whether or not they are intermingled in with a group or grew up on their own, family or otherwise not there.

It is their decision to concentrate on their surroundings, on their own without permissions from their social structure, where or how they grew up. It is an independant attribute. Now, the instincts on the other hand could be developed through a social structure, yes. This would be the entitled "upbringing" scenerio. But the sixth sense attributes are not developed through said scenerio. It is developed through the individual and not through who they hang out with or are brought up with. Types of influence does not guarantee the developement of said sense.

Some people are more intuitive than others and pick up on subtle nuances generally perceived beyond the normal senses. ESP is sometimes used to mean the sixth sense but other things are usually added to that depending on who is talking about the topic. I think some are more in tune with things and have a better sense of those things outside of what most people consider the normal senses. It can be developed if one has the discipline but like anything else some are more gifted in this area than others. I also think some ignore that gut hunch feeling about things because it plainly scares them. Therefore, they don't even acknowledge it.

My whole family is this way to a degree as far as intuitive. Some refer to a person like this as a sensitive.

I believe in the six sense. I think many people don't know what the six sense really is. They don't realise that its that hunch that there is trouble coming for you or someone else. It is knowing who is ringing you without seeing the caller ID first. It is knowing someone is hurt before your told they have been hurt or injured.

Many people live in a world of absolutes, where they need proof that something exists, ghosts, Aliens, psychic abilities. They need to experience it before they can believe it. Nothing wrong with that, but that to me means you live in a world with a narrow point of view.

It doesn't help that there have been too many charlatans in the world trying to earn a buck off the naive!

It didn't take a long time to get used to.. It was hard growing up. And I'd call it instinct, rather than 6th sense. Some call it ESP I think. It's that "gut feeling" that one has when something bad is about to happen. It's anticipating something that will naturally follow when any act is carried out. Coincidence, maybe.. But it's a fool's defence, I heard. It's basically intuition that warns when something is about to happen.

Sometimes people come to me.

I have described to some those who are in the Spirit world.

Example...a person was talking about their ex-husband who had passed.
A picture came into my mind...I described the person,
and they said that is exactly the way he looked.
It just comes.
But I never force it to.

I am unsure as to whether or not this would be considered a 6th sense, but over the past several years, since i was 10, i would have these dreams revealing small yet very specific details about an event and sometime in the coming future, it would happen. It scares the hell out of me every time, but it is never any major occurances when it happens either. Everyone knows this as Deja' Vu, but i am wondering myself if deja'vu and the 6th sense are one in the same or not.

Not technically, no. You see, the dreams you are having represent things to come... Whilst Dejavu is something that your mind is remembering from a past event, or for those Matrix followers; a glitch of somekind.. HA!

Anywho, it would be considered part of the 6th sense category since you are seeing fortold future events, no matter how miniscule they tend to be.

I can't in good conscience call this a "sixth sense" as in reality humans have at least 7 and in excess of 16 recognized senses. "Eighth sense" just sounds silly so how about "intuition" or "collective consciousness in motion?"
Nomenclature cheekiness aside, the analytical side of me wants to say that it all boils down to common sense and the brain's pattern recognition wiring refocusing random coincidences and fabricating memories to make events more profound but I simply can't ignore my sentimental/instinctual gut feeling of more. I don't hold any organized religion to heart these days but I have a surprisingly (to me at least) unwavering and inherent faith in prayer. It's not a hard and fast guarantee for tipping the scales of fate but there is enough proof of the might of naked will to sate enough of my own dismissive logic. The adolescent hope for the barest connection of whimsy to reality has never fully worn off however much I pretend to ignore it. I still spark at tiny miracles. Who's to say that there won't be a viable scientific theory for that tingle of premonition at the dawn of a horrific event that saves an endeavor, a heart, a neck, a soul?
After all, nearly the whole of what we hold so dear as being scientific truth is based upon pretty probabilities as it is.

Having this "sense" does not always mean it has to be directed towards something bad , good things may also be foreseen.
I know also it is more than luck and mere instinct. For me it happens when it happens. Those few very close to me in my life whom I choose to share this with have validated things I have seen. For me it comes as words , pictures, or numbers. Sometimes a sensitivity through a simple touch.

I have experienced this my whole life. I cannot explain it. I do not totally understand it. I do not consider myself unique in any way for it. I am just what I call "aware".

I believe in this so-called "sixth sense" because I simply feel it exists. I`ve had it a bunch of times, and a lot of my errors were because I didn`t listen to "hunches". I don`t know if I have it or it`s mere intuition, But the idea sure sounds good.

The sixth sence can sometimes become annoying. But I have had it for as long as I can remember and have grown us to it. Even though some of those with it has more of a potentual to be attacked by demonic spirits as well. *Not fun playing chicken with them though they always win with your blood slightly shed*

Annoying? Hardly...
But, then again, we all have different points of view

I dream of things that happen the next day, pick up my phone before it starts ringing, can tell you who is on the other line without looking at the screen... etc.

I agree
it can be annoying. sometimes you just don't wanna know what your future hold... usually if it is bad. Some people hate the fact that some things... they can never change... I'd rather not know when a loved one was gonna die..... cuz that prevents you from being happy with them, cuz u sit there worrying and dreading that day...
you know?

so it can be VERY annoying if thats what your gift is

What's often called the sixth sense, intuition can be defined as "the ability to sense or know immediately without reasoning". We all have hunches, gut feelings, or intuitive insight. The feeling one gets when first hearing about something or someone, or the first impression when we meet someone new...these are all simply our intuition.

Its often considered the ability to synthesize and deduce from all of our accumulated unconscious experiences. Therefore, we "know" much more than we realize. Its also through the perception of our (other) five senses, which, allows us to "tune in" to our intuition. Those who pay attention, can find intuition a useful tool in their lives.

sometimes I wish that it was just simple again...

I don't know why people always wish to have these gifts when really... many times they aren't really gifts at all... ignorance is bliss... I don't have the need or a want to know everything. I like living life as simply as I can... I try at least.

In My family the gift of premonition is fairly strong, though i do agree that it gets annoying having that extra sense, I can feel what people close to me do physically, one day i had intense pain in my abdomen and couldn't breathe properly, it passed but later in the day i got a call from my fiance, he sounded sick and when i ask he said he'd been suffering from extreme stomach pains that morning. Occasionally i can see into peoples minds, one of my friends was trying to find a way to ask the girl he loved some very personal questions, he would not talk about what they were with any one and he said nothing about them for a long time, then when we were talking quietly about music, he seemed preoccupied and i suddenly realized what he wanted to ask her and i told him.
The sixth sense comes in many different forms but all are a gift and a curse.

I'm extremely empathic when it come to animals, not so much people. I wanted to be a vet but couldn't, far to painful (it's hard to explain).
I'm also 90% of the time right as to who is on the other end of the phone when it rings.
And I'm rather psychic, but I try not to be because spooks scare the hell out of me! Rather difficult when every house I've ever lived in has been haunted, oh with the exception of one!
I occasionally have quite spectacular premonitions unfortunately it's usually something bad, the best example of that was The Twin Towers! It was very odd, I was in the middle of shopping, I'd just picked something up to look at when I heard a massive bang, inside my head. Then I had the most overwhelming feeling of sheer panic I just had to get outside. Once I did I literally had to fight myself not to burst in to tears, as I felt so incredibly sad. I sat down for about five mins to pull my self together, then carried on with the shopping. About ten mins later I was in another shop where the assistants were watching the news live on tv, of what had just happened in NY. With that the shopping was abandoned, I had to go home!!

I am remined of a converstation I had with an aquantance, a person I have spent consideable time with, he said, " I predicted my step mother getting backed into be a car."

I asked, did you get specific!"

He replied, " I just knew something terrible was going to happen."

There is the rub, he as a consistent character is projecting negative " potential".

I am with The Ban, and Blood Mother, my " sense" tells me they hit the topic on mark.

Deductive assessment has brought me to conclude pending positive, and negative happenings.

I find more satisfaction in exercising adapt observation, then in relying on some " mystic vibe".

There have been multiple occurences in my life that could be a "6th sense" but i tghink its more coincidence than anything. Ill give an example, i dreamed when i was in Germany that i would meet Hitler, obviously i cant because he is dead, but i did happen to see an "ex-Nazi" on that day named Albrecht Karlheinz

The most important thing to remember is to never downplay anything.
Never forget an expierence. Record it, and research it a little bit.

Sounds more like manipulation to me....
I would say like many others here, that I sometimes have instints about decisions I am about to make. Sometimes I listen to them, sometimes I don't. 9 times out of 10 my instints have always been right. I have been in quite some trouble not trusting them in the past.
I think some children are more likely to have a sixth sense. One of my sons (my youngest) seems to see things in the night. Mostly scary things. It scares me to watch what happens to his body when it happens. He tenses up and looks right through me.

All people are capable of this gift, for instance this gift seems to run in families. Simple, in these families this gift is not ignored, people learn from a young age to accept it thus in later years it becomes just a part of life. And on the other hand some families ignore it and eventionaly the gift is almost lost. The human mind is a mysterious thing, capable of so much more than we know. I personally beileve in this ability having experienced and seen it many times in my life.

UtahVamp, you brought up an interesting point... run in the family?

This confuses me, simply because I am the only one in my family that has this gift.
I am the black sheep, you see. Incredibly different from the chritsian light people down stairs...

Could there be another possibility for someone in my situation?

I am often thrown into a fit- screaming in my sleep, crying for no appearent reason, and lashing at those who have done nothing to me. Then, right after one of these outbursts, I recieve an incredibly clear dream of what is to come and, well, the rest is explained in my earlier post

I have known many people that claim to be empaths, psychics, etc that really have no clue and have yet to meet anyone that truly fits the bill so to speak but of this i do know there are people with gifts much greater and lesser then I have and do belive they exist even if i have not had the personal experience to back it up

I agree with many of you in the belief that everyone is capable of a sixth sense and moreso of magick. I also agree that we have better access to these powers when we are young and it runs stronger in the female. I have many premoniitions, I get flashes of things right before they happen and know about things hapening in other places. I have also astraly projected on a number of occasions and I've also seen what I believe to be demons/daemons. My abilities have died down alittle as I've grown older but have not ceased altogether. However these things have always been sporatic and not all exactly under my concious control. I know that I have repeated some of the things already mentioned but just felt like adding my two cents. Also, someone inquired about how to increase and/or access these abilities, I recomend meditation.

To me it is apart of everyday life I have grown so used to it since it been apart of me since birth that I forget it is not something normal when people look at me funny when I say something before something happens. A lot of people who do not understand do not realize that it is something that is uncontrollable for me so there is no on or off switch. It just comes and goes.

I commonly see no benifit to what is declared Premonition, or sixth sense. It is usually stated "I had a feeling something was going to happen."

Never, "I sensed something was about to happen, so I intervened and right before it became inevitable, the occurance was avoided, by my intuitive advance notice."

To many appear pesstimistic as well, seldomly (this thread an example) is the phrase. "I had a sense something grand was going to happen, and it did."

The majority of "gifted" people are so inadapt at even articulating how practical said "gift" is.

Jolly lot of Pesstimistic Paranoia, with an occasional false afrirmation.

Another think, One would think that "gifted" people would have a knack for the obvious after a while, clearly by present repthis is rarely rarely the case.

How many times do you think people hear something
informative, relating to a friend, or family member only to "ignore it", then later when the incident breaks, the sob credits some "gift"?

vampchica4-I apoligize for my delayed response.

Often what happens as I have noticed, families that embrace the gift, tend to teach their children to be more accepting of it, thus the gift becomes stronger in them with time and is just a natural occurance.

Families that ignore or shun the gift tend to ignore and redirect. In time the gift is suppressed and for the most part lost.

I personally beileve we are all born with it, in some cases it is stronger in others and even the family shunning the ideal of it does not suppress the gift. We are given this gift for a reason.

Being a black sheep in a family is simply a way of saying this person is differant than us, however if your family was accepting of the gift as many are, it most likely is very strong in every member or was at some point.
