I believe that language is one of the most definative aspects of a race or culture. To my knowledge, there is no language available that s unique to Vampyes and can be feasibly used. I have heard of Vampyres using Sumerian, however I feel that is inadequate as a) Sumerian language has a sparse lexicon, making it difficult for practical application and b) Sumerian as used by humans. Does anyone know of a more suitable Vampyre language, or would anyone like to work w/ me on developing one?

Interestingly, I am in the process of creating a unique langage based on African, Arabic, Persian, and some American Indian dialects. I tentativly named it Amcees, and will be explaining the whole thing in detail in my journal. When it's finished, I'd be willing to teach it to anyone.

I had never thought of vampires having a specific language. Could be very interesting though.

VC: will check out your journal about Amcees.

Would love to see what everyone else comes up with too.

Because a vampire is not unique to any particular culture, it would be difficult to ascribe to them one single language. You could take different root languages that have been used through history but I believe the idea has always been that a vampire doesn't need to speak in order to communicate his/her intentions and beyond those simple non verbal communications or the more complex psy communications, it would be strange to suddenly create out of whole cloth a language that vampires would be expected to learn in order to communicate.

From a linguistic intellectual challenge, creating a language sounds like quite a bit of fun though also a bit of work.

It would be nice to think that we have our own words for things, people, and maybe even places. But I tend to find that we draw towards eachother anyway, maybe its not a language as such but an understanding

An interesting thought . . . and interesting to see your journal and what you have developed. So many of us can spot another of our kind in places and be drawn to kindred...but I like this idea. As was said, with our kind from all over the world, hard to pinpoint one language.

Satin, I somewhat agree with the "speak what is spoken" But it does not necessariliy mean English. WHy not just the language of the native land the vampire originates from?
Could it be that no matter what the language there is no verbal barrier to what is intended? IE Body langauge? Vice spoken?

Interesting thoughts. THere is no language which I know of that is strictly used by vampires. Since we are among the human race and have neither a cultural or a country of origin that is for Vampires, we have no language.

I myself enjoy Sumerian, Gealic, and French.

i really like everyones ideas. but do we really need a whole language?? why can't we do something like just a vocabulary of words that are usually everyday words?? i mean right now i am trying to learn Portuguese because i am going to Brazil in about 2 months, so learning another language would be really hard for me. i'm not trying to be selfish or anything saying that it would just be hard for me. i think it would be hard for a lot of people. that and its not a given that everyone will learn it, so in that case there would only be a selected few that would acctauly understand each other.

there are 2 forms
1. a writen language of a broken(slang) form of anciant arimaic
2. the spoken words are three fold, where not only the tone, and context taken into account, also is the physical expretion, when the words are spoken.
so one word writen or spoken could have several meanings, one also needs to know/relate to the speaker to fully understand the truth to the nature of the event being drawn into visions before you.

the language has no center so the difrent interpritations between one or more within a conversation need to be excelirated by the listerners knowledge of the speaker.
by this method its has ensured over the years, that learning and knowledge of those around oneself is never falserfide, and a true account of another is all that can be concluded.

cheers

The native language that is already spoken wouldn't need to be changed, but like another poster already mentioned just to have some specifics words or phrases just to recognize one another could work well. It could be an ancient language or one that was created.

Well it seems this is developing more into a group of 'code words' that would have meaning between those familiar as well as help in recognizing one another when body language or feeling it wouldn't suffice (ie internet or phone). That would make a lot more sense to me than trying to create an entirely new language and would probably be finished a little faster too ;)

Just as we come from different language backgrounds, so would vampires. Seeing as how they were mortals at some point in time. It would just work out to everyone who is vamp would be at school trying to learn a new language. Sounds good though but with the ones with special powers would not really need to speak something different to communicate but act on instinct. But keep up the good work and I will ck out the journal on the new comer vamp language.

The native language of the person is something that has always seemed to hold true. Having language for the "Vampire comunity" sounds intersting but there will always be some that can never understand it no matter how hard they try. Will be interesting to see what comes of this.

I think vampires never really had a original language due to the fact that vampires lingered from country to country so we don't have a actual language of our own. Now old languages do feel fitting to use. But to each their own.

It's a cool thought, and I am by no means trying to sway you from taking on such a task, but I have to agree with an aformentioned point. Vampires are as diverse in their origins as "human" cultures are. Vampires are found in the folklore of almost every civilization out there, so no one language could truly encompass that type of diversity. (Although I myself am a bit partial to the Sumerian for my own, selfish reasons ;-p)

A "Vampiric Language" indeed.

We come from many culture and locations so the essence of vampire or its "metaphor" is not confined to any one specific person, place or thing.

But to have a language unique among us all to use...such a thing could indeed distinguish our kind among all others.

If such a historical task could be accomplished...

I toowould love to learn this new tongue indeed.

My original languages were primarily Latin and Aramaic..I learned some Hebrew but found it rather limiting...Why place limits on yourselves????? Written or spoken languages are meant as I see it to converse with mortals..Vampires are a class unto themselves there is no culture other then the one that you brought with you...I may be wrong here I have no idea other then it looks to be an excelent exercise in intellect

First i have to say that i also commend anyone who would take the time to invent, a language for vampires.
However i have to agree with Narakyndryn on that it does feel a little silly.
I do believe that vampires have a universal language though..but i believe that it is not the spoken one.
It sort of reminds me a bit,of when the Klingon Language was invented.....still as i said..i will look forward to seeing this language.

Actually, we speak many different languages and do not define ourselves with one. If you create a language to "Define" as the "Vampiric Langauge" then all your doing is trying to create something that has no place.

Frankly, we speak what we feel is needed. Not to mention, even if you make a language, it doesn't make it special and we won't all agree with its terms and go with it. For with that, the language itself will die out.

If we did have a language, it died long ago, after the floods went away.

Trying to make a new one, if anything, will only bring heart ache to those who try, not to mention, it more like a blemish, trying to recreate something that died out for a reason.

- Sin

interesting the thought of a vampire language... like it was mentioned before vampires come from all cultures and so there is no vampiric language... but for those who want to combine languages to create a new one there exists a language that isnt spoken at all.. a language that was created 20 years ago and forgotten again... a language that should unite european ppl but was never learned by more then 50 or 100 ppl... im talking about esperanto... it is a very interesting language and everything is done.. grammar words and synthaxes already exist... building an own language is hard as you have to think of a lot of words and linguistic stuff...
