Myself and a colleague of mine had an interesting discussion today on the presence of other people.

I had a rather busy day at work the other day. I was surrounded by many people (after all this is Christmas time the stores are swamped.) What I thought was so strange was even with my back to the front desk and surrounded by people I felt this very strong presence approach. Without evening having to turn and look I knew he was there. I turned to face him and was very suprised at how overpowering his entire force was.

I know that something like this has happened to most of us at one point or another wether it was you could tell someone was staring at you or you knew that someone entering the room changed the atmospere.

Ok so now to the point.....what is it that makes someones presence so noticeable? Could it be some people can actually tap into the human mind or is it our own minds connecting with others? I am open for any and all suggestions.

I've experienced this before and I always put it down to the Charisma of a particular person. Like Hitler or Jim Jones had, able to convince rational people to do irrational acts. Most politicians have it the more usually the more successful. TV evangelists also use it to draw people to them to hear their message.
I just think they know how to use their voice and presence to make themselves well known and easily remembered and so too their message for good or bad.

The human mind, jumps easily to conclusions. Whether it be conscious or more than likely, subconscious. People who keep that in mind, hardly ever have these experiences. Funny how they only exist to those open to the notion......why should a "presence" care whether or not you "believe"??

I had a similiar experience before. I am not sure what it is but I think some people may have stronger auras than others. Or you may have some sort of connection to that person for some reason.

Hmmm interesting question. I have been told on occasion that I have presence. Other times, that I blend in well. Thinking back, the times that I have been told about presence were times when I was full of energy and needing to DO something with that energy...it was focused and flowing well.
Perhaps that is what is a "presence" a focused overflowing energy of the person.

It could also be perhaps that your energies and this others were not exactly jiving and comfortable with each other therefore you would have a stronger reaction to him in the room or near you.

i look at it as... everyone has power or an energy inside them and depending how much, or how great that is,, will evoke. how strong their presence is , when entering a room....

I can agree with what some of you have said yet in My opinon, many of the opinions could be merged.

My belief since I to have had these experiences happen to Me and have had it done to other people upon Me entering a room is that its a multiple collection of things. One........its based upon how strong one persons psyche is, the stronger the psyche the easier it is to pick up upon other energys as well as it is easier on it to be picked up. The second is the sensetivity of the person who would be picking it up.

I have had this happen before. But it seems most common with my closest friends. My friends think its some kind of trick, but whenever they approach me from behind, I always know its them.

I believe my experiences with it are the result of the strong bond I have with my closest friends. Its like, I can feel their energy and determine exactly who it is without even seeing them.

I believe that some have a stronger presence then others. Many times people also have a dominating presence that just happens when they walk into a room it's eerie, but it happens. Not sure as to why, maybe it's some kind of energy or aura that people just cannot resist.

A question to the thread maker...

You said that this persons "presence" was large and noticable. Now, was it strong, as if he was over powering you? Or, was it just big, like it was bouncing off of you as a beachball would? If it was extremely strong, perhaps this person was the type to overpower or manipulate. If it was just fluffy and large, I would say that person has no clue that he was exploding his presence on you--as if he had no idea he could do that.

To have a strength of self so powerful that others can feel it is extraordinary.
While I believe that such strength of self, as well as emotion, can create a projected presence, I cling tighter to the notion that some people are more receptive to others empathically. Thus, I think there is a wonderful mishmash of empathy and projection to be had in people's presences(?)

His presence was just overpowering. Very strong, and something was not quite the same as other people. I have met people with strong personalities but this was very different. He sort of gave me the creeps even though he was very polite and fairly normal looking.

There are those that are simply strong personalities and exude that wherever they may be. Perhaps he is a soul encountered before and yours recognizes his? There are people that we are attracted to and/or repelled by upon first sight....fascinating with the possibilities as to why.

All human beings are connected to each other to begin with. We are all also connected to Nature at some levels so, it really isn't hard or surprising why this happens. People also have auras. When two meet, you can feel when this happens. The exercise of rubbing your hands together and slowing bring them together will show you what an aura feels like.
But try to act surprize sometimes when you meet someone like this. It is good for their image. ;)

My personal belief is that our physical being is just a shell, that it is our souls that matter. And that being said, it is not uncommon to "feel" anothers presence. It is something that we do all the time.
It is when that other person causes us unease, or takes our breath away that we suddenly notice this experience.

I've had similar experiences, and I think that were are certain people that have the type of presence meant to draw others.

In other circumstances I think it depends on the type of person. There's one person and I can always feel it when they enter the room because their energy is so similar to my own. So, for what it's worth, that's my two cents.

I would like to think it might have to do with similar auras, or perhaps they are as aware as you may be. Interesting thought though, one I never really examined myself. Good thread topic.

Charisma??? Perhaps it might be jsut that or could be any number of things we are all inter connected in certain ways we pick up vibes from ppl we knew in past lives as well

I had that happen to me once, I was alone at the park really late one night, and I was swinging on a swing trying to collect my thoughts, and I got this sickening feeling that someone was watching me, I turned around and there was a guy behind me, he was blind and trying to find his way home

Perhaps he just wanted you to notice him. Its easy enough to get someones attention that way. I'm sure lots of people are guilty of focusing their energy on someone just to get them to notice them... I know I have done it and people probably do it all the time unintentially.

presence i have found in my experience is determined by the overall energy structure of an individual, this includes the persons personal energy field, as well as the energy fields of beings/deities accompanying the person, or near the person

depending on the nature and intensity of this cumulative feild of the person and its particular reaction with ones own personal cumulative energy field, one feels the others presence, either as strong, intimidating, creepy, malicious, intense , uplifting, calming and so on, sometimes the fields will even resonate to create a third common subset of a field so to speak which may be stronger, more intense, less intense, different in nature from the two individual feilds, these processes are ofcource determined through laws that governs said energies and so on.

i have known people to faint in the presence of individuals and places/rituals with particularly strong energy feilds, or overreact emotionally, either through sheer irrationality or fear or anger, it is something like running 100 volts through a machine that has been calibrated for 40-50 volts ;the usual result is a burnout or a short circuit, in some cases though , individuals that learn to run small doses of this energy through their system trip on it and become addicted even, as energy is the greatest drug, next to love ofcourse, they are cousins ofcourse; the two, as love is energy though all energy isnt necessarily love, that being said, this is what leads to certain individuals being termed as addictive, or charismatic, that their presence draws people, that one does not want to leave their presence and so on

a lot of emotional dependancy upon people is not so much a need for the other person, but a craving for a dose of their energy, a fix to use a drug term

all materially induced highs are eventually a result of the substance entering the central nervous system and activating dopamine centers in the brain, which is tantamount to energy, so really these are very paltry highs compared with the direct connection

also certain people have predatory presences, much like wolves and lions, this is not to say that they are predators or seeking to prey upon those around , them, just that they have warrior energies, this presence intimidated and makes most individuals supplicate to their will, unconsciously, much like how cattle recognise instinctively the predatory gaze of the sheep dog

this happens to me far more than i would like. And I have noticed it usually. notm always mind you.. but usually means that there is somehting in that person that goor or bad calls to my arua.. spirt energy.. what ever you wish to call it.

This does not mean that this is a good thing always. At times it has been smoething I would caal my ecxat oppisite.. and since I consider myself a pretty decent to good person.. that one was not pleasent.

I think it happens when the auras or spirits or energies of the people somehow.. for what ever reason.. know each other.

Charisma is a strong feature that some posses and others dont, it can yes indeed move the mass, and make them obey, whatever they see fit to make them do, some consider this a lucky gift others a curse, I am thinking it ismore depending on who holds it, it can be ether why? cause what ever you do with it makes the difference.

I think someone's presence is an acumulation of things, are they a timid spirit or a strong willed spirit, are they innately good or evil (I think the people on the higher end of either good or evil can be felt by others, wether it be because of their overpowering goodness or overpowering evil...) People who are charismatic...etc...

It could very well be a vamp draining the energy from alot of poeple and some just pick on it more.

There are some more vulnarable than others. There are ways to protect.

I think this happens way more than people realize, its just up to us to open our eyes more and see whats going on around us.

I believe there are two different things at play that's being addressed in this thread. First is charisma. Someone mentioned politicians and other charismatic people who can manipulate or otherwise influence others. I think that's a separate thing from what the OP is talking about.

I think the OP is talking about strength of energy, or strength of will. Some people either carry with them or accumulate from others a stronger core of energy. Those who can sense this or are drawn to energy itself can feel that strength of energy.

I also believe that there are different types of energy and certain types are drawn to certain other types (the way opposite magnet poles are drawn to each other). And I think if your energy is the opposite (complement?) to the other person's, you'll also feel it, particularly if the other person's is very strong.

And there's my nickel's worth of thought for the day. :)

I believe that the stronger a persons psyche, the more noticeable their presence is. I have felt this from many people. And, I have been told that I have emitted such a presence. But, I also believe that certain people are more sensitive to a persons psyche than others are.

I read this whole Discussion and found it interesting.

I myself have been told by friends they can sense this energy of something they can't describe. ( for me I know what it is, but I never tell ) For me I think it is a energy that we broadcast.

For me it falls down to two things. Either you're alpha / beta character.

I have also experienced this before. i think that some people have great energy than others and that energy can be felt by others. i also think these people are very powerful.

Tis my belief that some people if u are vampire or not, have that ability to sense other creatures like themselves.Like I said it doesn't have to be another vampire.Perhaps it is just another person like yerself who is a medium, spiritual person, emapth, etc.And perhaps that person was sending out energies as well, or u sensed his shielding, or "calling".

De ja vu is generally defined as the mind processing new information as old information; basically, a temporary glitch in the normal functioning of your brain.

I'd like to propose the possibility that you had something similar happen; that it wasn't supernatural; that it wasn't his presence you felt, but cues your brain sent to your body to tense or to feel pressure. As you said, there were many people there, and turning to see a person coming towards you would probably not be so surprising.

A lot of people have very strong vibes about them. It's something about their character that lets you know their presence without having to look at them.
It sure is odd but I think it's pretty cool that these people have something distinct about them that they don't even have to be looked at to be noticed, even if just as a strong feeling of presence.

the coin is one you have manifested, by positing a possibility, and having done so assumed that it is a polar of another, supernatural was the word.

there is a very crucial error that has beeen made here, as for one , the possibility, (which by the way isnt based on your experiences but a hypothesis that has been acquired and hence an alien thoughtform and by doing so have made a papacy of science), is one of any of an infinite number of other possibilities, so actually there isnt a coin, but an infinity of possibilities

this notion of science is the packaged, fiction, handed down by modern day priests, for ready consumption and instant satisfaction, like most of what one purchases at a supermarket

unlike the rennaissance spirit of science, of personal observation, thought, hypothesising, and critical thinking, based on ones personal observations experiences and using the tools at ones disposal, logic is but one minor tool of science, science is about the scientific methord, and can never be exclusive, that is a bigot of a process, all progressive scientific movements have always been about inclusion and accomodation rather than cutting out.

all scientific fact is based on the premise that there is a control situation from which point all observation can be calibrated, this is the bottom line and basis of that "it has been proved, by tests, in the laborotory" and so on, quantum physics clearly shows that there cannot be a control environment; that observation itself creates error, in proportional measure, ref:- hiesenbergs uncertainty principle, if i got that spelling correct lol, the cats also make for a very interesting read

by this action , also what has been done is that effectively you have said that there isnt any science in any of the posts on this thread, the individual processes that may be germinal scientific processes, have been blanketed under the word supernatural, which also assumes a clear understanding of the natural, atleast the word, that there is a natural, which ofcourse is completely known without exception, whose borders are clearly defined and known, and super natural from there meaning , that which lies outside this realm, so in effect one draws ones own borders and decides oneself what is in and what is out, and by doing so completely corrupts all possibilities for any control environment , as another thread of the hypothesis you have posited also implies that the mind may conjure its own borders and limits to the natural world in accordance to its own agenda and not necessarily having anything to do with fact, reality and so on

One thing also that need to not be ignore are the ppl who gets easly charm or seduce by the ppl who are lighlty or heavly skills and gifted in charisma or aother ways of talking or apporching the ppl. This is also if we think about it pretty interesting , since some seems to be imune others seems to get trap with every pro or amateur in the field or charismitc feature.

I am like that, I know when someone is approaching or if someone is watching me. I think some are more intutive about their surroundings than others. I don't like being in a room with a lot of people. I try to avoid it at all costs.

The human mined is magnetic pulses and the human body is made of protons, electrons and neutrons which create magnetic charges or charged pulses that the human brain can pick up. Everyone can do it but it is the ability of focus that makes it possible. You were most likely concentrating intensively on something which will make you very sensitive to your surroundings. It would make you sensitive to an magnetic change in you surroundings.

Some people just have a morepowerful persona...

Or perhaps we just randomly feel things and attribute them to people who are not any different than the crowd.

The key is in perception.

I have had this happen to me as well and all Ican say is that some people have a stronger presence or persona then others. Some people exude more energy either positive or negative. I find it hard to think its any kind of mind trick. I do know that its apart of your keen senses to notice when someone is staring etc. Some are more sensitive in that one then others as well.

The coin was probably the wrong imagery to use, as there could be many explanations for what happened...not merely spiritual or merely a glitch in the anatomy.

Agh, I personally always just have a problem in being presented with something that may or may not be spiritual/anything else, and jumping on one boat and burning others. I'm a hard-core fence-sitter like that. :)

What it comes down to is what the person who experienced it really thinks happened....and it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, whether they agree or not.

My thoughts are.... Perhaps it is simply all to do with energy. Maybe some people may have higher energy fields then others.. or maybe it is even when someone gets close to us we can feel them in our energy fields.... or maybe it is simply intuition. lol. This is one that is hard to answer and give the concrete proofed answer for... I sure dont have it.

I have to agree with everyone on this one.. but if I may put in some of mine own ... here... I also believe...when someone has a strong presence that they have been around in many lifetimes.. I dunno how many of you believe in other lifes but I sure do ... I can starting talking to someone I just met and its like I have known that person from another time.. I also believe that , thats persons psyche is reaching out for some reason or another....

There is also the possibility that it was you being more attuned to his presence rather that his presence being so overbearing that you couldn't miss it.

There's a Rosicrucian thing I was talking about in another thread about getting people to look at you without talking to them or trying to get their attention. It leads me to believe that there may be some connection that we can share with each other. Some way that we might be able to heighten the sensitivity of our mind, energy, persona to find others or recognize familiar presences.

This has happened with me a few times on different occasions. I find it is usually when I feel a close bond with the person, or I soon have a close bond with them.

I feel it's more of an aura thing that makes their presence so noticeable. Almost like that person is tapping into every single one of my positive thoughts and it is flowing from them.

I do believe that it's possible for others to tap into the human mind. Also that few individuals can possess the ability to feed off of the information that they gather, and use it towards making a more positive presence, or let's say one that you find pleasing or noticeable.

I believe that it is what you're either conciously or subconciously attracted to.
It makes people seem to have this force....

WindWalker - That's also a chemical thing. Your body can react to phermones and release it's own chemicals that in addition to creating a sense of loyalty or love, also interestingly enough cause us to overlook traits that would normally annoy or anger us...also of interest is that after a few years around the same phermones, those chemicals of yours slow down in reaction and *pop* all those annoying habits become obvious.

windwalker: You added exactly what I forgot to say in my post. I forgot to add the attraction part of a presence. It might not be a physical attraction, such as when BloodyMarie couldn't see him but still knew he was there. But it was an aura attraction, almost like a soul-connecting sort of thing. I probably sound like a crazy hippie but there have been plenty of times where I have just met someone and haven't been physically attracted to the person but I have been mentally attracted, or they just made me feel good by being around them.

People can sometimes be connecticted on a psychic, or metaphysical level. You are just being very preceptive to this persons life force.

I believe that on a subconcsious level individuals do tap into another power when you feel a presence like this. I have both done and had this done to me before. This is not something that has the potential to possibly be controlled consciously; however, many people don't know how to do focus that energy.

Additionally, I believe it is possible to be connected with someone on a deeper mental level. These are two seperate types of ways to feel this sort of presence.

its possible that they just have a strong aura and anyone sensitive...might be able to pick them up....or he might be projecting.

For me, it's the amount and type of energy a person is exerting. It may not be towards me directly but being an empath I feel all kinds of energy from people all around me. It's not always fun, especially if one minute a person's energy will have me feeling pretty good and the next someone has nothing but negative energy swirling around them and it drops my energy level by about 10 knotches.

It's creepy though when you don't have to see someone to know that they're there by you *shudders* lol

I think its about the head shakra and learning to open it. then how to focus it.
some people I find are strong of mind and unreceptive. others like sheep.

I think that every humans have aura, and you know there are some people who enter the room and everyone who where in the room suddenly turned to them...
I think it's because of that person huge aura, or magnetic field.

I know one guy. He's silent already, and you don't feel his presence... he enters the room and noone notices that...

I mean I feel when someone is standing behing my back :D and once he was standing behind me, i chated with my friends and said something about him, and everyone was like, turn around :D
and he was there, he's the weirdes person I ever know :)

This has happened to me alot . Maybe some spirits energy are stronger than others. Thats why you can feel the presence of some and not the others.
