recently i've been puttin thought into what i'm starting to believe as truth...

is it possible to be part one thing and yet part another? does the soul pick up everything from a life and carry it over?

example: someone dies as an animal, reincarnates as something else, dies once more and becomes something else.
would this make them part first being part second being and part current being?

Hmm. This is an interesting line of thought, and one that I haven't personally looked at yet.

It stands to reason that if one believes in reincarnation, then one might carry over animal traits into the next life, much in the same way that we carry human memories and abilities over.

If the second is true, then why should the first not also be a possibility? Maybe this accounts for our high affinity for one animal or another. Or it might also account for the theory of "otherkin"... those whose "other" is a real animal.

You're in a human body, right? Then that is what you are physically. You may have some things hanging out in your dreams and maybe attached to your sense of self. You can be anything you want to believe. But you are in a human body suite till you die. But you are not limited in how you see youself, there are no limits.

Another line of thinking that I've contemplated in terms of reincarnation:

If reincarnation is possible, is there a "level" of animal at which reincarnation is no longer possible? If a soul is born human, can they only reincarnate as human? Or can their life energy become a wolf in the next life, then human afterwards again?

I've not yet found any reincarnation information that states reincarnation is reserved for one type of creature or that one couldn't become something else other than human in future lives or past lives.

Demian, of course we are in human bodies. What we are currently is not necessarily the question. What we are looking at is the possibility that one could have been an animal in a previous life, or the potential for one to be an animal in a future life.

From there, we bridge into whether we carry more animalistic tendencies from a previous life and if so, do those animals from a previous life bring about a sense of affiliation in this lifetime?

It's just creatively thinking outside the usual box.

i know it's still a fresh thread... but just another thing to throw in there that is adding depth to the question and i guess also adding another point to another thread i read earlier about becoming a vampire...

say a past life was vampiric... would that mean you'd be a vampire in this life then... at least partially? the theory doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to animal chatacteristics in a human life we can also tap into the spiritual beings aspect.

to me it seems plausible...

To answer your question, we are getting into the realm of my current theory of vampirism. I believe (based off what I've read and experienced myself in this lifetime)that the vampiric state is the result of damage to the subtle body. This is as it relates to psychic vampires. For Sang vampires I cannot speak, as I am not one of their number. This damage to the subtle bodies/ energy body is what causes the deficiency in energy. This deficiency and lack of ability to generate a normal amount of energy is what ultimately causes the vampiric condition (again based off my own theory from lots of reading and self examination).

I also posit that though this subtle body damage may be healed, the damage is not surface level, such as an auric tear. It is something that would take a lifetime, or two, or three, or more to fix. In fact, if one decided to remain a vampire, then life after life, this condition would have to be willfully maintained.

I currently hold that maintaining an energy deficient subtle body is just as hard as becoming a vampire to begin with. There are abilities and perceptions that I believe come about as the vampire becomes aware. That to me would be the only real advantage to maintaining this state.

Just as in all things, one has to desire healing for the healing to take place in the subtle body. And one has to desire to remain a vampire for this state to continue lifetime to lifetime. It's a willful act that occurs on the spirit level, and as such, is not automatically "granted" so much as willfully imposed.

Top notch question and answer.going from the point of view due to knowing my pastlife,I think we will carry traits and even skills that we had in those lives which help define who we are now.And if we,re to move on,again,we will carry some of what we have now with us to the next.so you could be right. This again is only my opinion drawn from experience.

Soul as it self is a universal energy, it is not becoming anything of the experiences that encounters in the bodily life, but it is storing it in the database for further development/expansure, or adliest that is what the wise are saying all the time......

The whole further reincarnation process of a sould depends soulely on the subjects last immpression, on his/her last wish, that will serve as a catapult further, belive it or not bla bla bla.......

It would stand to reason that if we are here to acheive perfection and spend our lives striving to attain it that we would capture and keep traits from each life. Thus building the devine being and therefore able to reach Nirvana!

I do believe that things can be carried over from one life to the next when speaking of reincarnation. These would include memories and experiences. However, I am not sure if it is true that you would be half anything. I thing it is more a genetic evolution.

I agree with you MOSTLY NCBandit. Except on the final thought.

I see it more as a conscienceness evolution. Nothing to do with genetics. We would not carry over DNA from a spider, if that was our last life. Our DNA would just be a combination of that of our parents.

We could carry over memories, thoughts, feelings etc. from a previous life. Whether that would manifest into behavior traits would be up to how the individual deals with the traces of the past in their mind.

I would like to rein this topic back in and state that originally we were discussing past life memories and behavior traits/ character traits. We were not discussing DNA in terms of retaining the physical DNA of a spider and carrying it into this lifetime. At least that's not what my impression was.

It is entirely possible that some of the experiences of an animal lifetime would carry over into this lifetime. How does one know for sure that an animal-rights activist in this lifetime wasn't a hunted/ abused animal in the previous lifetime?

Someone mentioned the concept of nirvana and the ultimate enlightenment that becomes the divine soul. The divine soul always exists, it is not something created nor destroyed. Rather, this soul is merely the mind that is in contact with the divine whole. Under this perspective, each soul is but a part of the whole divine and each soul experiences a different part of reality.

What personally turns me off about this viewpoint is the concept that we are only a small part of a whole. What would it take for the part to become whole in and of itself? What would the implications of this be? Of course that's another thread. I do not intend to hijack this excellent topic to throw in another.

Jenova... you're on a roll... i don't care if it branches off into something else. you've taken this theory further than i had origanally thought about. you've made me think about it in ways i didn't at first think of.

i guess you are right with that last statement though... it would only make us part something... we never really would be whole. but what if somehow we could manipulate our energy to become wholely something from our past... i've never tried it to that extent, but i have managed to push some lives away to let another become more dominant. in a purely physical sense i'd still be human but i would act like the creature... but spiritually i would have the attributes of that creature. it's purely theoretical to become wholely something... but i don't know... it's making me think. gah... headache... i'll let it rest for now and let others think about it.

I have no idea as I don't remember any of my past lives at all. I don't dream about them, I have no memory of them, so I am pretty much lost lol.

But I guess that if you were to manipulate your energy enough, you could become what you wanted

Perhaps Nirvana is actually the spiritual state where we achieve singularity as an independently conscious divine mind. As such, we become as a god and have no reason to reincarnate as part of the divine whole but rather... we seek to understand further on our own terms. We begin to send pieces of ourselves to incarnate form to experience life and that piece becomes part of our gathered knowledge and eventually one piece achieves its own individuation and becomes our stellar neighbor.

Yeah, I'm going to let this one go for a while as well.

according to Native American belief, we all have animal spirit guardians that live within us and are a part of us. perhaps these spirits might relate to animals we may have been in former incarnations. we are all many things and many people. i am not the child that i was 40 years ago - but that child is not dead - he is within me. in the same way, the people and beasts i was in previous lives are also within me and a part of me.

It would explain a lot about me personally, why I know things I've never learned and have had animalistic behaviors since I was a small child.

Jenova, I can't remember specifically which one or if it's all, one of the buddist religions teaches that reincarnation is based on our karma. I.E. if we are human and we do something bad we will be reincarnated as a lesser being (an animal of some sort) and work our way back up.

I think that we dont physically carry it over but that our soul does... that being said I would say yes I think our souls can be part one thing and still part another.

I mean the way I see it is, if we have relatives no matter how distant it is that is from one place that makes us part whatever right? Well I think the same thing applies in this situation.... Our relatives can be back hundreds of years but that family will still proclaim whatever the heritage is.... *shrugs* That may have been a confusing example of how my mind works...... lol.

I never cease to be amused by the human condition of "learned powerlessness". What makes anyone think that we have no control over our ultimate destination? If we have no control, then how does the soul/ spirit evolve? Does it even exist? If there is no way to control our spiritual evolution then there is no need to reincarnate at all.

And if reincarnation is based on "karma", then we again have very little control in our spiritual evolution. Karma, by nature, is based off a system of reward and punishment that ironically follows the standards of what mankind perceives as good and evil.

The transmigration of the soul refers to a belief that after the end of one's life the soul moves into another living form—similar to reincarnation. It is often connected with a belief that the karma (or, the actions) of the soul in one life (or, more generally, a series of past lives) determines the future existence. As the believed nature of the soul (jiva or atman) has a significant impact on any philosophy concerning transmigration, there are a number of significant differences between both Hindu and Buddhist versions as well as minor differences within the varied Hindu and Buddhist traditions themselves. In general, the Hindu sense is different from the Buddhist sense because, in Hinduism, a soul is both immutable and eternal, but in many schools of Buddhism the soul is believed to be susceptible to change, and thus the character of a soul from a previous life is imprinted on the new one.

I believe that we are here to learn life's lessons. If we die before without finishing our path then we continue it on in the next life. Until we finish learning our lessons in life then we pass on to the other side. What ever that may be. Just a theory not a fact. So I do believe that we do carry what we learn to the next life.

well....I think that if there is any chance, as I believe, that our soul passes from one life to another, then I think it quite possible that we take what our soul has experienced and brings it with us to whatever current body we enhabit....so if you have lived as a vampire, or wolf or whatever, I think that we bring some of that with us.

In a past life I was an alpha male wolf, named Donovin. An unknown phenomenon came about and ended this life suddenly. I then was reborn as a human but with an vampiric soul. I still have the life and knowledge of the wolf, it is still a part of me. I believe that your theory is true.
