Ok i hope i posted this in the right space
Now i have been wondering this for the last few days,
when people dig up bones from people and animals, and other creatures from the past are we disturbing their rest, and if we are , are we creating unhappy spirts? i would like any one opinions mine is below:
me im not sure, i no i have heard ghost storys about distrubing indian graves but animals and so forth i dont no
Personally, I don't believe spirits would attach to their rotting carcasses...unless we are talking pissy zombies. To a degree, I think there is a level of vanity that goes along with being a "presence" or "spirit". I back that statement with the argument that an angry, confused or stubborn spirit is caught up with their own entity enough to utilize apparitions. The occasional physical occurence seldom includes the waving of a murdered womans femur as she bellows for revenge.
Do I think evil can be in an inanimate object? I don't disbelieve it. Do we disturb spirits by rattling their bones? Maybe it's a matter of disturbing the evil itself that could have been laying dormant. Hmm, I sound a little contradictory -- but what I am trying to clumsily say is that we do not create the unhappy spirit. Unless we were the proximate cause of their demise...
I'll leave this for a Dominar or for any substantive discussion, but it needs to come quickly. There is no "meat" to this post. It is a random question that could easily be a poll. You refer to stories: what are those stories? Why do you believe or reject them? There is an interesting subtext to your question, but you are missing it at present.
I feel Old burials are just that, old. The spirit would have been long gone....Unhappy spirits are created at mortal death when circumstances are wrong.
I dont belive that once a person dies they care about where they were buried or their old body, because they are going to get a new one, but i could be wrong i mean anything is possible...
I believe that ancient burial grounds should be studied but at the same time left as undisturbed as possible. Many things may be learned from studying burials. And no I do not necessarily believe that the spirits become angry when someone disturbs their remains
I do believe that if you disturb someone or some thing in thier final resting places that they could become angry.
I actually think that what caused a restless or unhappy spirit to be that way could have happened from trauma or something that happened when it was alive...
Personally, I don't think that in the western world, disturbing bones can upset the spirit 7 create uphappy ones.. the bones are what is left of the body.. the soul has parted.
In some african tribes to do this is a terrible Omen and the spirit turns to defend.
In ancient Egypt, there were curses left for any one who entered the Pyramids.. SInce if any one DID, after the deceased were entombed, the intruder would be...... well, intruding on the Dead.
I happened upon a grave.. a very shallow grave.. it was a skeleton of an animal wrapped in hesian.. I had disturbed it and the bones all jumbled as I moved this 'cloth' I just thought it was cloth in the ground.
I was planting some flowers.. I felt awful for disturbing the grave although the grave sight was not obvious to be until I had yanked the cloth.. I quickly placed it back and recovered and said sorry... Those up above (if there is anyone) know I didn't mean to do that. ( It was a Dead cat, and it must have been someones pet, n the house, before I Moved in)
So In my thoughts on this, the western world have been raised with a respect for the dead, and to let sleep and never tread on the Graves. A simple respect.
I don't think our spirit or soul will be in some way attached to the bones when we die... I think that they are just bones... Stories about unhappy spirits are, in my humble opinion, just that... stories...
Now, I have to add, however that here in my country there is a place called Pisagua, where too many people was killed during the Dictatorship period in Chile... women, old people and even their children... just because they thought politicaly different. There, you can feel something in the air, you can hear voices... and many people say that for a long time the tombs were opened and different belongings were taken out... an for a long time the people living there saw ghosts...
A spirit is unhappy b/c of a how they died so quickly and suddenly . At least thats what I've heard . I believe the dead are dead . And evil spirits called Shaitan or demons cause a lot of trouble . A lot these happenings are a mixture of magick and natural things that happen to the earth and the body as it dies . It all depends . Anything is possible . I believe the Bible and the Koran tells us the truth about what happens to the dead .
I believe if the spirit has "moved" on to the afterlife it could care less what happens to the body. However if the spirit is still "attached" to the earth by some unfinished business or whatever I can see where there could be an attachment to the body still. That's just my personal opinion.
I can see how this would be a question for a poll. But, since the thread has not been stopped...let's meat it up a little...
When asked if disturbing remains causes unhappy spirits, I believe that it does not do so. It is my belief that the unhappy spirit is dealing with life even after death.
Now for the meat...
I have studied egyptian religion practices and they have a three spirit system. The body, soul, and spirit. When a person is born thier soul and spirit go into the body and stays until death.
I believe this to be true. I have seen death and remains dug up by mistake. The body just houses the soul. I have also seen unhappy, and happy, spirits. There is more of a feel of unfinished business than anger.
I do not practice any formal religion on a regular basis. I take what I learn from history and nature and apply it to my sense of what is right and wrong.
Why do you believe as you do? Are you part of a belief system that encourages your belief? Or, have you had experience, such as Minx, where you showed respect for the dead and nothing bad happens?
Informative post, Trivia. Yes, I also believe this could be a poll, but my opinion, which couldn't be put accross by clicking an option, still stands...
If the essence of a person is seperated from a body in death, or if you believe that it is the midnt hat simply switches off (as I do) then why would either of these options bring any link to a corpse as being the person? Surely even if you entertain the concept of a soul, the soul would ascend beyond the body.
It wouldn't Echo. The body is just the vessel that houses the mind.
I believe in the soul. I also believe that the mind is a powerful tool and I would not be surprised to learn that the soul is created by the mind as a coping mechanism of some sort.
But, I do believe in the soul being that little part of me that makes me me. The little part of me that has allowed me to develop opinions such as these.
Don't you just love this kind of post? We can get into some serious discussion!
With Native American Burals, they blessed the land so that the person to travel to the otherside in peace. They are very cermonious and therefore want to protect their ancestors. I believe if a spirit is mad or upset it's b/c it was that way when they died.
I think that once you are dead, your spirit really doesn't care what happens to the body on earth, so I don't think that digging up a body is going to create an unhappy spirit. I agree with everyone else that said our bodies just house our souls.
im not sure personaly what i belive, i hope when i fisnsih with my life and after life, when i go to rest that if my bones are distrubed that it wont cause me to come back , im having a pretty happy life right
That is a great question.
I think that in some cases we are disturbing the dead when we dig them up. Like in archaeological digs. But in some cases digging up the dead can put a soul to rest. For example, if some is murdered and the body needs to be examined to help find the killer, that can put a restless soul at peace. Well those are my thoughts anyway. :)
I think that if a spirit was going to be unhappy, then it would start by their mortal death and turn into an unhappy spirit.
So, to answer your question, no.
i personly belive that distrubing the dead is wrong but rather this ofends the sprit is dependant on rather they take ofence to it anything that would ofend them in life will ofend them in death as well by digging them up you are digraceing there tomb and disturbing there rest rather this makes them unhappy depends completely on them
Like others commenting above, I also do not believe that after the spirit leaves the body the bones matter anymore. The spirit is free and released from the body.
I personally feel if you unearth the remains of another you take the chance on disturbing thier rest if you unearth maliciously
yes you can make an unhappy spirit. adjusting or moving or removing there bones is just one way to do it though. a lot of spirits dont really make themselves known until something disturbes them. like a renovation of there old home or shall i use the term "haunting grounds" it could be as simple as moving a chair or as complex as taking down the wall. and sometimes yes it pisses them off therefor making there presence well more known. how would you feel if someone ran off with your leg?
i dont think the soul is attached to the remains and i hope it has already moved on to whereever they go
the soul isnt always attached to the remains but there are the few who do stick around. the ones who werent ready to end this life and dont understand the path home.
I believe that as soon as we die we cross over, so our bones don't mean anything to us. But if the spirit is still there it is probably already unhappy, and you messing with it's bones just makes you a target for it's anger.
If we can believe that a spirit can "haunt" a home where they lived or as another thread suggests, attach itself to inanimate objects, why would an attachment to its own body and bones be so out of the question?
I like the notion of the spirit ascending beyond the body as well as anyone else. It suggests almost a nobility in death. But as we are frail and sometimes lost in life, might we not be so in death as well?
We've heard of spirits being angry at their "things" being disturbed. What is more personal than the body you knew your whole life? The disturbing of a grave seems equally plausible as a ghost pisser-offer.
The spirit leaves once it's body is laid to rest. Unless that spirit was not ready to die, but even then I'm pretty sure they wouldn't hang around their grave.
I feel that when you disturb a grave you call apon the gaurden spirit over that hollow ground. the spirit that watchs over and guides the souls of the dead to whatever afterlife there may be. at lease that is what i beleave.
I believe when you die, your spirit leaves your mortal body, so moving it after so would not make disgruntled spirits.
I don't believe that you create a unhappy spirt just by disturbing the graves of the departed. I believe that the spirt is not tied to their graves and have already moved on to their next destination. If it does seem that you have created a unhappy spirt just by disturbing the grave the spirt was already there and unhappy you just disturbed the unhappy spirt that is staying close to their grave.
first, do you belive animals have souls? many americian indians did. they always thanked the spirit of the animal for there fur and food. but souls per se? i don't think so. and as for people, good goddess, i hope i move on far away form my bones. at least my old ones. i should be somewhere else by then.
i am half native american and as for our beliefs.we believe that if you do dig up any bones the spirit of these bones are awaken and angered at the intrusion of their burial site.many cultures also believe this but in many different ways.
Foklore exists in Ireland, that if you disturb the grave of someone that their spirit will haunt you forever!
I believe even though a spirit leaves it's final resting place it is still attached to the site so it is possible that by digging up bones can cause a spirit to become angry. After all a resting place no matter were in the world is a sacred area.
I know disturbing indian burial sites is a BIG no no..as they blieve that if there final resting place is dug up or whatever that their souls/spirits are doomed, but as for animal sites i dont think it makes much differece as animals dont have any type of religion...as for humans and such ot really depends on their beliefs prior to death, some believe if they are disturbed they are automatically doomed to walk the earth & will never rest, some believe that once you died, your soul/spirit goes wherever & stays there no matter what...personally i believe it doesnt matter!
I think it depends on how they died in order for them to restless or not..
In your question on Indian burial grounds .. I believe its just a bad omen to desecrate there sacred gorunds, not thst the spirit would come back to haunt you
I do think that it depends greatly on the way they died and if they had any regrets or if they were experiencing a alot of emotion at the time of death. But I also think that restless spirits can be created by disturbing their graves.
I don't believe that digging up the bones of a past being can create an unhappy spirit for the sole fact that the soul is no longer inhabiting the body thus has no use for it. Unless you violate or in some way harm the body it shouldn't create an unhappy spirit.
I believe that there can be un happy spirits who have died but dont know they have past on t another life
I would believe that disturbing the resting place of any being could be enough to create a disquieted spirit.
iv done some reading of my own, and i think that maybe disturbing rsting places could make them angrey, i mean i think if i was distrubed i would be spitting mad
I believe that we must respect the finall resting place of an earthly existance but totally agree that the spirit is long gone. It would have to be a pretty OCD spirit to be upset by this.
I don't think that our soul our "essence" is attached to or earthly body. To me spirits would not care about their body, after death. Because, in reality all it is, is meat. There is no life there just the shell that housed the soul. As for the indian burial grounds, they blessed the lands and the places they were buried are scared. So disturbing a scared area will piss any spirit off.
Good thought, i'm not sure..i mean it could be..only becasue it was once a living body..person..thing...i dunno but I don't believe so because its just the leftovers now..but HEY i soo could be wrong..someone could get mad o.O
I dont believe that by digging up remains and unhappy spirit can be created.
Usally a spirit is unhappy because of the past live it has lived.
I know there has always been ideas for and against doing excavation of civilizations. And I can see both views, learning about a past people, what they ate, how they lived, their teachings.I totally get it, but on the other hand.I do think as much as possible should just be left alone. I know I would not be a happy lil ghostie if someone had my skull on their window sill.*lol*
Hmm *thinks*
I believe that ancient burial grounds should be studies but i don't think that their bodies should be disturbed, they should be left as they had been found.
Unhappy spirits could be created from a Trauma in their life, but maybe disturbing the grave the could become unhappy, that's just what i think though..
i think that the souls come out of the bodys once they die...so i think they dig up the remains for respect...not so much for peace...
I have heard the same stories and I actually believe that once buried to let them R.I.P. I have seen alot of stories on tv that were supposed to be real. Its hard to believe it but, i think there could be some unhappy spirits out there.
I do believe that there is un happy spirits out there. Why couldn't their be? I think that if you are un happy in life, once you die you will not be able to moven on. Maybe it is because of all the things you never did in life or maybe it is because your energy or something is too negative to allow you to pass on. (that last part about the enrgy is merely speculation don't jump down my throat if it is wrong, lol)
I do believe there are unhappy or harmfull spirits out there but i dont think that if we disturb their grave they will know. I dont think unhappy spirits are created by disturbing their grave either. They have probably moved on by then.
There may be a connection between the bones and the energy that once animated them....don't know… but I would treat them with respect if I inadvertently uncovered any.
I do not think that spirits would really care about their body; after all, it is highly unlikely they will use it again.
In the case of Indian burial grounds and tombs (King Tut for example), problems may arise because of the rituals used.
However, I personally with animals it is not a 'Pet Cemetary' scenario if it is tampered with.
Just like humans and animals alike, sometimes the uprooting is not entirely intensional. However at times it is, due to the ever growing need for more space for housing (and those horrible, ugly buildings they've been building near us, in my case).
It grows out of necissity to survive, and I'm sure those entombed as it were, understand.
If their passing was an unhappy one to begin with, well, there inlies the debate. I would -hope- it's not on purpose, but then again many things we cannot control, are.
I'm a bit ill feeling, so I'd hope that made sense.
No most ghost that hang around something fucked up happen to them and they can't move on but for moving there bones no
No not really they are either an unhappy spirit or not when they Die so that depends when they die
A lot of ancient cultures burried their dead with the tools they used in life, so that they would have them in the after life. I personally believe that disturbing a persons remains would not anger them but disturbing things to which they had a personal attachment could. After all we seem to place more value on things for the most part, especially in this day and age. It could be that it is the things that we have attachments to are what those who seem unwilling or unable to move on latch onto such as an old home, or place that ment something to them.
I also beleive that if you distrub a grave you just might have an angey sprirt on your hands....
I do think that it is possible that in some cases disturbing a resting lace can make the spirit angry. Now this does not mean every spirit will become angry. After all they were people and different things angry different people. Personally Once I have passed I could care less what you do with my remains.. they will be of little import to me at that time. Now messing with my family.. different story.
The stories I have read ( or seen as movies lol) of graves being disturbed and the spirits wreaking havoc have always made me wonder something. Was it the fact they were disturbed.. or was it the disrespectful way they were disturbed that made the spirits mad?
And there is a different side to think about as well.. if you think about it.. where can you really go in this time to find a place that at some point in the past was not a final resting lace of someone.. so many people have lived and died since we came into being.. how can you fiond anywhere that did not hold the remains of someone?
i dont think its a bad thing, because many cultures dig up the body and clean it to cleanse it and no bad spirits can be made if the family love is in the way
i think they are unhappy becase they didn't want to be disturbed.
I would agree to a certain extent, if things were disturbed on accident. But people who don't know what they're doing when they try certain things, would be a good starting point for why something got mad at someone ..
Due to lack of space if nothing else remains do have to be disturbed.
I see no harm in this, as I think our Spirits fly rather than stick around with the bones.
One reason tombs etc were guarded so well with curses, spells ect was of course they contained a great deal of treasure.
Motive I think is the important thing.
I think there are accidents, but none which spirits infect their wrath upon.
the biengs spirit is unhappy about being disturbed but then again we have to look at if the spirit was unhappy and unfulfilled at the time of death. but as far as accidents go there r more unhappy spirits hanging on doue to unresolved emotions in life.
i believe that our spirts leave our bodies when we die. So if your spirit is unhappy then i guess it will hang around.
I don't think we are disturbing the rest of people or animals that have been unburied. they're souls are no longer connected with what's left of their physical remains, therefore they are still resting peacefully
I believe that even long after the spirit has left a body.
If the unhappiness was so harsh through out the life of the person it can become one with the proteins/molecules that make of the carcas or remains of the body and this phenomenon maybe confused as the spirit.
The pain, sorrow, agony was so harsh in the life of the person that has become part of its all.
I believe that ancient and holy palces do possesse a type of energy that will be disturbed when people mess with that place, places like that should never be messed with. Now regular cemetaries are usaully a clean and energy free place, cause the souls are already gone from the body, by the time they get there. Places that people died or was murdered there is higher energy places expecially when the death was unexpected or violent. So then thats where you get your hauntings from. So in regular cemetaries, no i don't believe theres unhappy spirits there.
it is likely that once you have disturbed a souls rest in the cemetary that they will bother you and follow you around until you will put whatever you took back in its place
depending on the soul before if it was good or bad, it could possibly beome dangerous to you
Perhaps then it depends on the belief sytem of the one who died and the ones who grieve ?
What if.....the remains of a group of people were found in a mass grave ?
What if.....those people had been tortured and had died in a state of fear ?
Now I think their loved ones would wish to honour their remains, and the strength of feeling from all sides would be such that a ' feeling ' would certainly be felt perhaps for many generations......whether the site itself was disturbed or not.
Or perhaps motive would come into play.
A development that distrubed remains ( sacred to some ) purely out of greed and not need ?
i think the main thing is emotion and feelings when it comes to anything dealing with creation of spirits be it good or bad
Cursed?perhaps the ancient Egyptians set traps and when Tut was discovered Professor Carter got a nasty virus that killed him. People should so digs and studied the dead as lord has suggested.
But I do not think that spirits care It's mainly respect for the dead native American Indians have so much respect that it is believed to be that if you build upon an burial ground you anger the spirits I for some reason believe that because my whole block was once burial ground but they removed the bones but it was never blessed but I do not think this block is haunted just my apartment.
I don't think that disturbing burial ground created unhappy spirits. I'm sure that spirits become "unhappy" for many various reasons, but I don't think that's one of them.
I believe the spirit would be long gone from the bones, But some of the native americans and their ways believe the resting places if disturbed wouold only cause bad spirits to take revenge. it is up to the people and their beliefs.
I believe everything bad that happens is an accident, because people do not know better at the time.
I think that every case is different however I believe they should remain undisturbed.
The body wqas just the shell for the spirit so I would say that the spirit would not care if u disturbed it.
I think it would be possible to anger a spirit if its remains were disturbed if it was still earthbound. However, I think that a spirit that had not moved on would already be unhappy as it had remained in the human world in spirit form.
When I was very young, and we went to cemeteries to visit our loved ones who had passed on, my Mother made it a point to remind me it was disrespectful to walk on graves. As a child just listens without fully understanding; but as I got older, I thought that just because there are just the physical remains of an individual, does not mean that the spirit has no attachment to them. Since then, I've always made a conscienscious effort to make sure that I never walk across or on any graves.
Just as "ghosts" return or remain on earth due to unfinished business, untimely/violent deaths, I think it's possible for one who has passed on to be upset enough to haunt if someone has desecrated their grave, home, or any other property.

I would think that disturbing ANY grave in general would be enough to upset anybody, living or dead. lol
