i have had a strong fascination with curses and the mighty pharaohs, when we enter there tumes strange things seem to happen, in my opion, here is a small cliping from wepikea and would like to no if others say ya or na that the curses of the pharaohs can happen

Curse of the Pharaohs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
The Curse of the Pharaohs refers to the belief that any person who disturbs the mummy of an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh is placed under a curse whereby they will shortly die. Many tombs of pharaohs have curses written on or around them, warning against entering.

The belief was brought to many people's attention due to the deaths of some members of the team of Howard Carter, who opened the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62) in 1922, launching the modern era of Egyptology. The first of these "mysterious" deaths was that of Lord Carnarvon. He had been bitten by a mosquito, and later slashed the bite accidentally while shaving. It became infected and blood poisoning resulted. Skeptics pointed out that many, many others who visited the tomb or helped to discover it lived long and healthy lives. A study showed that of the 58 people who were present when the tomb and sarcophagus were opened, only eight died within a dozen years. All the others were still alive, including Howard Carter who died peacefully at the age of 64 in 1939. The doctor who did the autopsy on Tutankhamun lived until 75. [1]

Some have speculated that deadly fungus could have grown in the enclosed tombs and been released when they were open to the air. Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, favoured this idea, and speculated that the mold had been placed deliberately to punish grave robbers. A newspaper report printed following Carnarvon's death is also believed to have been responsible for the wording of the curse most frequently associated with Tutankhamun – "Death shall come on swift wings to him who disturbs the peace of the King" – a phrase which does not actually appear among the hieroglyphs in KV62.

While there is no evidence that such pathogens killed Lord Carnarvon, there is no doubt that dangerous materials can accumulate in old tombs. Recent studies of newly opened ancient Egyptian tombs that had not been exposed to modern contaminants found pathogenic bacteria of the Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas genera, and the moulds Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus. Additionally, newly opened tombs often become roosts for bats, and bat guano may harbour histoplasmosis. However, at the concentrations typically found, these pathogens are generally only dangerous to persons with weakened immune systems. Air samples taken from inside an unopened sarcophagus through a drilled hole showed high levels of ammonia, formaldehyde and hydrogen sulfide; these gases are all toxic, but at dangerous concentrations are easily detected by their strong odours. [1]

Partly as a result, many modern archaeologists wear protective clothing when opening long-closed burial chambers. [

My thoughts are that the belief of the individual in curses can greatly affect the reaction to them. There are many ailments that can be brought on be just believing in them. A lot can be brought on by the mind itself. Whether or not there was an actual mold that was or was not deliberately placed in the tomb does not account for all of those who have ventured into the tombs of the kings over the years that have not been affected by the curse. There are many who study and catalog the many tombs that don't suffer from any ill affects.

I have to agree with xtremehates statement and I also believe those that died from howard carters team were affected by some mould or bacteria.

Mind you the Ancient Egyptians were experts on traps, acid baths and many other 'nasties' to protect the treasure and the Pharaoh from grave robbers. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least that they would leave behind some form of bacteria to harm and kill a grave robber. Once the tomb was open that is.

i believe the curses are real,i am from a israeli-egyption bloodline i believe the pharoahs of old to be blessed with the powers of the Gods, since the curses dont say HOW a person will die,the fact that people DO die shows that something is happening to these people.perhaps the people that died were ones that did NOT believe the curses to be real, the people that lived maybe were not affected becouse they did believe and showed respect for the faith system of the pharoahs.

The mind is very powerfull and strong, if it truely beleives it is under a curse it will make it happen.

There is a saying if you set your mind to do something anything can happen.

The sky is the limit!

I think it is a three-fold issue here: One being the power of suggestion. Two is that some of the Tombs being sealed up for so long had plagues within that did make people sick when opened. Three is that to keep people from being tomb-raiders and robbing the riches that were buried with some of these Kings, Queens, that rumors were spread of a curse to anyone that dare to open the tomb and steal the riches. Now, put those two issues together and you have your Curse of the Pharaohs.

It is definitely choices 2 and 3 the most. As the modies decay along with other things, poisonous gases form...and if you aren't careful, some can kill you immediately if you breath it in. But is also did help keep the grave robbers away when the pharos did die, since there were so many precious things buried. The power of suggestion...just depends how much you want to believe in the curse itself.

I agree with the people positing the traps-over-magic idea. I remember reading as a kid about some of the measures taken to keep thieves out of the pyramids. Believe me, the Egyptians were to clever to need curses. They could simply have a huge stone block crush the idiot trying to rob Pharoah

Curses are interesting especially in relation to the Pharaohs of Egypt.
A curse uttered and held entombed for thousands of years is especially interesting.
But in dealing with the Egyptians it's interesting to note that many if not almost all of their "curses" were utilized through the practice of science and herbology and believe it or not bacteriology....hey the egyptians were practicing complicated and precise operations on the human body while many of the humans of the same period were still living in caves.
They knew and understood how to formulate and administer "Bacterial agents" that would stay active for years, centuries even given the right conditions, and that the inhalation of such would cause, after a time sickness that would eventually lead to death.

Well true, the term "Curse" is well over played in the media, what they used were talismans in glyphs, and when read these talismans AND prayers of sorts as well, were taken to be curses which would be aptly applied to anyone who would attempt to defile the tomb in any manner. The English translations leave much to be desired in as far as feeling and direct meaning. Warnings were also placed as well and their strength in meaning as translated as best a possible in English offered a sense of malcontempt towards any unwanted tresspassers.

The curse of the Mummy stems from egyptian rituals that threatened grave torture and destruction on those who betrayed the secrets of the rituals themselves... Freemasonry is founded on a curse that any who reveal the secrets will be dismembered ritually...

I agree with what has been said earlier. Most of the time "Curses" are just a sugestion that is made, If you believe that I 'Cursed you to have bad luck for a week' then you will have bad luck. Remember a "Curse" has no power over you unless you believe it does.
Good Luck :)

The tombs of ancient Egypt are famous for their “curses” that call for death and destruction to those who enter. Many of the explorers who suffered from the alleged “curses” experienced symptoms similar to those caused by exposure to Aspergillus sp., a mold that has been found throughout the Egyptian tombs. Egyptians often buried food, jewels, and other treasures along with their loved ones for use in the afterlife. This food may have provided the perfect nutrient source for Aspergillus sp.and other molds.
The most notorious case of the mummy’s curse occurred with the opening of King Casimir’s tomb in Poland on April 13, 1973. Within a few days after opening the tomb, four of the twelve researchers that had been present died. Shortly thereafter six more died. One of the two remaining survivors was a microbiologist; he suffered equilibrium problems for five years and performed microbiological examinations of the tomb to determine any correlation between his illness and anything found in the tomb. He found traces of three different species of mold on artifacts that had been removed from the tomb: Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium rubrum, and Penicillium rugulosum. These molds produce aflatoxins B1 and B2 and are speculated to have caused the deaths of the ten researchers.
It has also been speculated that these molds may have been responsible for the death of Lord Carnarvon, who died a few months after exploring King Tut’s tomb in 1922. When the mummy of King Tut was examined in 1976, over 370 separate mold colonies containing eighty-nine different species (including Aspergillus sp.) were discovered growing on the mummy. During an analysis of 40 mummies in 1999, a German microbiologist discovered that each of the mummies contained several potentially dangerous types of mold spores. Due to this evidence, scientists now take extra precautions, such as wearing personal protective equipment, when handling mummies and exploring new tombs.

Pharoahs are such touchy people. Never want to share stuff when they want to die, always trying to drop a curse on someone and killing with those wicked scarabs of theirs! Sheesh! I'd have a better chance at getting next to the president and cracking a rotten egg over his head!

Just the other day, i cursed my ATM card to protect me from online credit card theft!

I do not believe in those curses. They were placed on egyptian tombs because the egyptian people believed very stongly in life after death. the tomb was the place that the passage would happen in, there fore curses were placed as a protective measure, the people of the time believed in them and so the tombs were safe.

well I know the Mind is a powerful thing and if we let ourselves believe in something strong enough then it is possible to have the fear of whatever it may be and result in our own death/demise.

The mind is our strongest of all our senses/abilities and therefore we can destroy ourselves with it . Sad to say

I myself am a strongminded person and I do not believe in curses I only believe it is what you allow yourself to think and fear that can desstroy you.

I also feel that they may of been exposed to some bacterial virus or whatever and it cause their death, and if not then they cause their own death from the Fear of thinking there was a curse..

Just my opinion.

I believe there was 'something' strange about king tut's tomb, perhaps there was a virus released when the tomb was opened, but that wouldn't have explained why Lord Carnavon's dog howled and dropped dead the same time as the Lord himself or how all the lights went out in Cairo at the same time either.

I did have a post with more about this about a month ago but it seems to have disappeared:(

TwistedWhispers, you are right I believe. There was a combination of microbes and viruses that they came in contact with when they opened the tomb. And ancient dust and mold. As far as the dog, there are many documented cases of pets responding in some way to the death or pain of their owners even when many hundreds or thousands of miles away. That had nothing to do with the curse, it had to do with the sixth sense of the animal kingdom. But it certainly contributed to the curse theory.

I certainly don't propose to have all the answers, but life is energy, we are electrical in nature, so a disruption of electrical flow in our homes or space doesn't seem to be so much a curse as it is a natural phenomenon. There are many stories of lights flickering or dimming at the moment of death that have nothing to do with Tut's curse.

I believe he was. The mystery is why we are all here. Sometimes we look for answers when they would only ruin things for us. Very often the excitement is in the question, not the answer, just like the journey should be the most important thing, not the destination. Destinations, like answers, are endings, while life should always be a series of beginnings. "If you ain't beginning then you are dying."

A curse is quite possible, I recently did some research myself about this subject when a older thread popped up on here about the curse of Tut.

Apparently many almost automatically dismiss this curse as nothing believing the deaths to be caused by the toxins/mold etc growing within the tomb. Fact is that especially in the case of King Tut's tomb the symptoms that the discovers suffered and the time at which they suffered the symptoms can not have been caused by any mold/toxin in the tomb. Not only that but there have NEVER been any deaths from any exposure to the atmosphere of any tombs.

A curse is possible, but I personally believe if anything, that the deaths/sicknesses are brought about by booby-traps considering the vast intelligence of the Ancient Egyptians.

Archeologists are super-thrilled if they find a tomb that hasn't already been looted.

Grave robbers have been active for thousands of years.

wonder what happened to them?

The archeologists don't open up the tomb and discover a pile of thieving bodies blocking the entrance.

The looters work quietly and return time and again. Their stuff ends up on the blackmarket and then in someone's private collection.

Sepsis (blood poisoning from infection)was a big problem back then.

As far as the mould and bacteria is concerned, you're dealing with dead people here, there's bound to be some riotous microbes.

Actually, that holds more truth than most would expect. There was something on the discovery channel a few years back about the curses of pharaohs. They proved that the cause of death of the archaeologists was due to a bacterial infection that started in their lungs.

I believe that the curse of the pharoahs is real because there is so much proof that it really exists.

I believe that the curses of the Pharaohs are real in every sense of the words. Ancient Egyptian magic and spells are just as powerful when they were placed on the object as they are today. I would love to journey over to Egypt some day just to go to the pyramids and such to feel the power of the magic there. It is one of my dreams since childhood. Carpe Noctem

i'm in on the microbe theory....dead rotting bodies, fungus, bacteria.....very likely a cause of death in most freshly-opened tombs.

excatly, i don't believe the 'curse' would have effected anything if they didn't believe in it to begin with, it's all a case of mind over matter. Of course, i could be wrong.....

There is a curse that goes with most treasures. There is a legend or myth that goes with every curse.

Maybe the mold is the curse. It doesn't matter how the curse is executed, as long as it is done. So if it is just bacteria or mold it is still the curse.

While I firmly believe that curses only hold true power if you believe in them, I would never put my own belief in them to the test. I believe in the power of the Ancient Egyptians enough to steer clear.

maybe the curses happen to people who had bad intentions to the mummies. or think of it this way, the tombs had been closed for hundreds of years and poisoning fumes had been trapped in there. when released, these fumes can affect a person.

egyptians were known to be intelligent and creative, if they can make liquids to preserve the body of a mummy, surely they can make poisoning fumes for the tomb that will represent as the curse.

Well the curse is that the bastards know how to seal the shit airproof, so when you open it, and take a whiff, you die ha ha ha. Or you just get a malicious tumor.

What about the acid bath if you manage to walk over the title of who lies here and so on?

Or the trapfloor, just when you are about to take of that ruby, and somin activates and you are in good company, with all those spikes in it, with very very dry skeletons on'em?

and those flesh eating scarabs!

and sand wich is poring from nowhere?

Lotsa curses really.

I never heard of this but I think that people believing in the curse is what makes it real and if you look hard enough there is a reasonable explanation for it.

Belief in a curse gives it more power to exist then anything else, the mind over matter thing exists greatly in these sorts of things. The Egyptians were masters at traps...they beleived in magic, and curses from what we know. But there is always the chance bacteria and traps played a major role in the curses coming to pass and the people dying, the times it has happened. After all back when people first started rentering the tombs they were not exactly smart about it...

I had never heard the fungus or poison air theory associated with the opening of tombs. Seems like a very viable explanation for the deaths involving the archaeologists of the late 19th and early 20th century.
I'm surprised I haven't seen anything about this on the History channel.

I believe back in their time the curse was strong and true. Curses rely a lot on belief. But also it is well known that the Pharaohs booby trapped their tombs to also help deter grave robbers. I think that along with the power of belief is what has created the myth and made it seem to be true as well.

The mold/bacteria thing seems more likely, however, I think if you believe in something enough then it could come true.

Yes I think it is true however I believe that most of the curse comes from the idea that it can happen.

If you tend to believe there is more chance that your belief can make things happen, vodo is a big thing like this.

Seems as though most ancient civilizations have the manipulated "curse" tossed around for the sake of damage to certain important artifacts. As well known as the Egyptian culture is, it would be the same as the Hawaiian culture as well.

Even old musty chambers can have booby traps set off, causing acidic air to blow in your face...Ancient booby traps rule.

But with certain relics, prayers would be set on these, and warnings to others for tampering with their cultural beliefs.

All in all, I think it is the best way to explain rare occurences, as dying, sickness, and other natural causes...Many of which are still unsolved, should be a good reason not to take what does not belong to you in the first place.

Hmmm...

"He had been bitten by a mosquito, and later slashed the bite accidentally while shaving. It became infected and blood poisoning resulted"

I think thats really ridiculous, it's not abnormal to be bitten by mosquito's. I went to Florida & I had an allergic reaction to their poison, & they went literally black.

So I must be under a du du du du du du du curse too

I strongly believe in The Curses of The Pharaohs, the traditions of people in those times were strong...
I am fully against the permanent removal of items and messing about within the tombs. The Pharaos were put in there for a reason so I highly doubt that their priests would have sent them on their journey to the gods without some form of protection against those who would think to disturb them
