ok can how much power and magic you gain have do with with what gender you are? or what power you use work better for one gender then it dose the other?
me i am honeslty not sure i think we are better at mothering plants and spells to there highest but gaining power not sure
i think both are the same most things are blind to gender
thedame
that is very true and thankypou for pointing that out :)
gender has nothing to do with the streingh of a spell, it sometimes has to do wit the physycal streinght compare to endurance, but nothing to spells or powers. It is said a femal will be more endurant then a ma, but a man more strong, in general. but in the end on power, both are equal.
I don't think gender has anything to do with it. Any person can have equal or even more power than the next. It's all in the will of the person and of course practice.
The question is not so much as who is better but the differences. And if you don't know there are difference between males and females ... I feel sorry for you. You are missing the whole point of why have sexes in the first place.
These sociologist don't know beans! This argument has been beaten to death to promote same sex marriages and relationships when it comes to child raising. Like the child is not going to notice that there isn't and male father and female mother? *whispering* "don't tell little Johnny and he'll never know." What kind of garbage is that? Or maybe little johnny will think he is female if we don't tell him! WTF. Gender is not learned. It is what it is - period.
Behavior patterns are not always learned. Unless you believe you can "un-gay" someone! Many sociologists believe so. Good luck with that.
Difference are there. Don't be so naive.
Studies have shown that if you place a group of all women together for a long period, their menstrual cycles will indeed start to coincide. It even happened to the massage group before mine. But add a male to the group and this doesn't happen. Why?
If it doesn't matter between males and females, then we wouldn't see any changes but we do.
Women's bodies are in cycle at all times. Their bodies cleanse themselves. Men's do not. The reason why the "sweat lodge" was created. Women in general are far more attune to Earth than males. But lets not get into all the differences, but know they are there.
As for the gender themselves, that may be more personal than gender itself. But I have been in circle were a male "bellowed" at one of the quarters. This would not have worked very well for a female. Woman may shout but not bellowed. I can not speak for all male but I have done and seen more males being head strong at ritual than women. I have seen more females use "caring or nurturing" techniques as males or more for harder techniques. For example: a woman may kneel and use her hands to spread the earth, while a male will stab the earth with his athame. Different actions and different energy. Will the magic be given off differently too? If I whisper or shout in your ear, would there be a different response from you? The Earth feels the difference it too.
I do not believe that it has anything to do with who you were born but more how much practice you put into it.
I personally do not think someones gender has anything to do with magick, if a person learns magick then they can get good at it no matter what their gender is...
No it does not. Your "powers" or abilities are partially based on your state of mind, training and discipline, and natural ability. Some people have an easier ability in one thing compared to another. Mine happens to be in energy so that is what has been growing the fastest for me.
i think a female woul be generally stronger becuase we are closer to the earth
I think it depends on what system you are using, the situation and your own personal traits which may or may not be influenced by your gender
Billy, there are clear difference in sexes, but we are using the term gender, and the two are not interchangable.
There are clear physical differences, but the personal charecteristics are defined by the society that requires men and women behave in such a way.
The argument had nothing to do with same sex marriages originally. Sociologist were approaching the question of what really makes men masculine and women feminine. Is it the barbies? The hunting trips with dad? At some point we are taught what is manly and what is feminine, it is not innate. There might be a conceptual idea that witches are female, but once again that is based upon popular folklore that perpetuates and ugly hag with a huge cauldron plotting evil for local kids.
It is all based on you own ability. One guy could be stronger then the next female. While the other way can also be true.
It comes down to these:
Natural talent
Skill
Faith
Strength of will
and a few other things that I cannot put down for some reason.
As with the wiccan practice, the male and female represent the two god and goddess, the sun and moon...This is to give each a place within the magical circle, but both are part of the same union no matter what. Neither are stronger than the other. Both need one another, as the relationship between both is 100%, not 50 - 50.
It is not an arguement over physical gender issues, I believe this has to do with spiritual and ethereal, if I am right, than the above post is true in all forms.
As magik is analogically speaking, a-sexual, it does not matter who is casting, either the nurturer, or the strength...Both are one and the same.
This may bring on another arguement I would rather not relate to which is shovanism vs feminism. Magic is neither, the universe does not care who is who, as long as the caster knows the ways. Just remember, you cannot have the female without the male and vice versa.
Lol...Its questions like hese that brings out the Feminism and Chauvinism in Humans....Heh hee. Therefore i shall not comment...
Not being a user of magic, I can only equate power with prayer...and believe gender has no effect on that.
Bloody hell, I knew I spelled something wrong...Thankyou Gautham.
As regards magick and gender, I rather think neither set of "plumbing" makes an individual any more or less suited to a certain magick so much as the essence of their inner self from whence the magick comes.
Here's what magickal "tradition" has to say about it though... From the Kybalion, and the Seven Hermetic Principles.
VII. THE PRINCIPLE OF GENDER
"Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all
planes."--The Kybalion.
This Principle embodies the truth that there is GENDER manifestedin everything--the Masculine and Feminine
Principles ever at work. This istrue not only of the Physical Plane, but of the Mental and even the SpiritualPlanes.
On the Physical Plane, the Principle manifests as SEX, on the higherplanes it takes higher forms, but the
Principle is ever the same. No creation, physical, mental or spiritual, is possible without this Principle. An
understandingof its laws will throw light on many a subject that has perplexed the mindsof men. The Principle of
Gender works ever in the direction of generation, regeneration, and creation. Everything, and every person,
contains the twoElements or Principles, or this great Principle, within it, him or her. EveryMale thing has the
Female Element also; every Female contains also the MalePrinciple. If you would understand the philosophy of
Mental and SpiritualCreation, Generation, and Re-generation, you must understand and study thisHermetic
Principle. It contains the solution of many mysteries of Life. Wecaution you that this Principle has no reference to
the many base, perniciousand degrading lustful theories, teachings and practices, which are taughtunder fanciful
titles, and which are a prostitution of the great naturalprinciple of Gender. Such base revivals of the ancient
infamous forms ofPhallicism tend to ruin mind, body and soul, and the Hermetic Philosophyhas ever sounded the
warning note against these degraded teachings whichtend toward lust, licentiousness, and perversion of Nature's
principles. If you seek such teachings, you must go elsewhere for them--Hermeticism containsnothing for you
along these lines. To the pure, all things are pure; to thebase, all things are base.
This was where I copied this from (though I read it in a few books previously):

I do not feel that gender has power over either since I have known both illusionists and leaders who were both genders
Sorry to interrupt, but I would have to express that I agree with Billys post totaly.
Gender has nothing to do with anything , it's the power and strenght from with in .
Women have much more power than men. Men were made with physical strength. Women have more spirtual strength. That's why we can bare the pain of child birth.
i think all genders make there own power in one way or another
this was tricky. I think it is differens between male and female but i think it be compromised so i dont think in the end it will be just any differents in power. Just different powers that make male stronger on some parts and female on some parts. I hope that maked sence:)
I agree with Panter, there are some things females are good and somethings males are good at. But over all when it comes to power its all balance and equal in my book. We all have the abilities its just up to us how we obtain it and use it.
Gender has no way to do with spell casting or the power it will affect. Society has deemed gender as one strong and the other a care giver(sorry if I offend). yet as we mature we find this to be false in all ways for we are the same.
Women have more of an edge on power because they are not vulnerable to ego as much as the male...I said ego not the feminine mystique or wiles which are more of a survival characteristic than trait. Women are more subject to being compassionate than a male, and compassion, although a trait of lesser degree is nurtured more so by women than men...this allows for a woman to judge more sensibly and more reliably than a man.
Chromosomes play an important in the power structure as well.
Chromosomes do indeed Kwil, but if we look in other societies or clans that are more gender nuetral, the nurturing charecteristic (as well as others traits) is not nearly as pronounced as it is in ours. There are small pockets here and there where a women is not taught to be the nurturing, and an ego is fed just as much as the male one is in American society.
I dont think gender has anything to do with it power comes from within a person
I don't really think your gender has anything to do with your power.I have seen women that are just as powerful in every way as the strongest guys i have met.Spells just consists of how much faith and knowledge you have in them wheither they work or not..my thoughts anyway.
i think its more about mental stability and power. controlling the mind and practicing certain things i dont think is gender specific. One man may be better at channelling his energy than a women... but the woman might be better at realizing premonitions than the man. or any other example. it just depends on the person.
I don't really think that gender matters that much when someone is trying to use magic. I think that both male and females have the same abilities when it comes to magic, it just depends on how much he or she knows about the subject.
I dont do magic but thought it was a interestin thin...
I do beleive that magic power and strength does have a something to do with gender.
SCience has shoiwn use that women tend to cycle with the moon and therefore their power can b affected by this changed.
Science has also shown that men tend to work in tune with the sun and there for are more constant.
This being said the gendrs balance ach other out. As in nature the female and male forms often tend to have things that they are better at. Now this is not to say that one gender is better then the other only that the strengths and weaknesses can be balanced out by the other gender.
I will give an example of this.My gf is more in tune to people are in distress and need someone to talk to and she reaches out to them. I to have this ability but nowhere near as strong as her.
I on the other had have a very good `danger` sense and when a problem is about to happen I feel it long before she does.
Now does this mean she is stronger or am I stronger I feel that we both have equal strength but just in different areas.
I have a friend who most that can read auras is surrounded by darkness ( male) and another friends the is surrounded by white light (female). They are both really strong when it comes to magic but the friend that is white can`t do some of the things that my friend surrounded in darkness can and vice versa.
MAgic does reli on gender because each gender does have different strengths and weaknesses but overall it depends more on the balance between the strength and weaknesses.
There is also a difference between inate ability and that which is learnt. Someone with an inate ability may have a lot of power but very little control and someone may have sat down and studied how to do magic but may have the control but not the inate ability. Which is stronger ?
After rereading various posts from people who 'do' magic, I find it interesting that opinion is divided.
Like in all aspects of our lives men are equal to women. I doubt if gender would have an effect on power or magic. Faith is the only factor that I know of. If there is a genetic difference in people who are powerful I don't think gender would have anything to do with it.
i dont think gender has anything to do with anything when it comes to makin a spell. The spell can made by any person of any sex if it mixed right and it would still have the same effects either way.
there is masculine and feminine magic. we all have both a masculine and feminine side to our selves, and if a woman wishes to do masculine magic, she has to tap into her masculine side. likewise, if a man wishes to do feminine magic, he must tap into his feminine side. this is a basic belief in most magic traditions.
I don't think gender has anything to do with it...I think it's all just how you use your power...and how it grows....
When it comes to magic and casting spells i dont think Gender has anything to do with who is better Male verses Female.. Its all in the Mind and Some Men can be Greatly intelligent as can some Women.. Now Physically many a time Men are alot stronger but when it comes to the Mind Both i personally think are on equal levels and its up to the individual on How they develop and use their own intelligence.
gender has nothing to do with powers.
it's all mind set.
but, in relaity a male can do whata female can
and a female can do what a male can.
When it comes to power and magick, women can do what men can do, and men can do what women can do. There really is no difference's between gender's here. The only difference would be the amount of time and effort that each individual puts into the "craft", for lack of a better word at the moment, and the only other difference that I can think of is the individual having a preference for a certain style of magick and for a certain favorite spell or two. Other than that, everything can be switched from one gender to the other. Carpe Noctem
As far as I understand it, gender plays no role in how much power an individual posesses.
Gender plays no role in it as much as how much more capable one gender is at doing a certain job is than the other.
i don't think that gender has anything to do with it either.
i dont think it really matters as long as u know how to control it
It seems to me that there would be no difference in power when it comes to gender. It seems to me that it would have more to do with how much practice, how often you use that power.
It does not matter what gender you are to have power it is the knowledge you posess
i dont think that anyone can be stroung.some people like crowley say that they need a woman to do there magic
i totally agree with blood drinker they have nothing to do with what sex you are
not in my view, i think any belief that a gender can have more power magical or otherwise is nonsence.
gender does not matter even tho some people prefer one gender or the other for certain things.
There is no reason to think that gender would play any part of magical powers. Isn't that a little sexist?
Druids believed that both men and women had great magical potential but also believed that once someone embarked on an esoteric tradition, that seperation of the genders was important. So while both had power, keeping the two genders together reduced both powers and of course provided too much of a distraction.
i know a few people have said it sounds kind of sexiest, and in a away the question may be, but if we also look at it some of think that way, im not saying everyone dose but some do, woman have a power that men dont have and men have a power that woman dont have
Exactly...it's silly to think of two genders as the same...but that doesn't mean that they can't be co-equal with seperate advantages. Mentally, there's subtle differences but nothing that should hinder one in a job or career. Esoterically or Metaphysically, it would be silly to think that there's no difference. But in most ancient studies (if not always ancient cultures), that difference created a balance that worked.
It's silly to think that the mental capacities of the same species may be affected by the biological slights of the pelvic and upper chest regions. Sure, the chemicals and hormones are different - I'm not arguing for a biological sameness. but I don't think it's wise to place one's potential in such a blatantly uncontrollable distinction. It would suggest that the more of one hormone you ingest, the more magick you're capable of. And we all should be aware after a day of thinking about the concept of magickal power that it is directly proportional to the amount of dedication, discipline, desire, and time you put into your practice which makes it potent and effective/efficient: it's not dependent on which "gender" you are (and gender applies to the cultural stereotype, not the biological difference, which is distinguished as "sex").
If on a cosmic level gender is learned, then women have the power because they learn more quickly. We men have been allowed to believe otherwise, therein lies the woman's power.
Im not really sure if it matters what gender you are, as long as you know what your doing. Not dabbling
i think as a general rule woman are more tuned to the earth and therefore are able to draw power from mother nature with more ease...
however men are a lot more stable and when they do draw the power the the strength is a lot greater..
i think but iono thats just my opinion
we all have power if we use it or not some people use it to gain more power but i dont think it has do with the gender
I agree with most of the others. I don't think the power of spells and all has anything to do with gender.
While personally, I don't feel that ones access to the Magick of life is limited by thier gender. But the Idea can not be ignored. One such concept of the Idea is represented in the YinYang symbol. Not just representing the Male and Female Powers but as well as the Light and Dark of the Power. While each is different, both contain a little of the other and as such find a balance.
I don't think it's necessarily the gender that matters, but the soul...and qualities.
Women have a tendency to be more sensitive, nurturing, etc. and therefore may be better at spells of protection, or something similar.
However, a man with those qualities might have the same advantage, catch my drift?
I think it would indeed be a great idea to use the differences and "advantages" of certain gender stereotypes to one's advantage. Also, this can stretch beyond gender to culture, ethnicity, height, vocal range, muscle strength, memory capacity, etc. Sterotypes can be used to your advantaged.
Anyone care to start a thread on the debate of, "no such thing as magick," or quickly mention or message me elaborating on that stance? I'm curious! ;-)

some people don't have any ablilities, others have one or many, it is based upon the individual not the gender or race or anything else
my opinion of course
