This thought came to me while I was posting in another thread. What happens to a person when they live to lone? I mean dose it affects there minds to live that lone or maybe is it that they have seen to much lost too many. Or do they stay the way they where when they first became immortal? I would really like other opinion on this.
Well some can stand to be alone and want to see everything change. I don't think it would really affect them I mean we learn about our past all the time the history and we don't feel overwhelmed, so I don't think it would really bother someone to live forever.
some may be able to stand the loneliness of outliving everyone around them but many cannot. the elderly have much trouble with it now. Imagine being an immortal being and seeing civilizations die around you. It would be maddening.
Personally if I was immortal and had to continue to lose the ones I loved such as husbands and friends I would go insane. I do think it depends on the person though. Some prefer to be alone and it wouldn't bother them so much.
if immortality was a real possibility, i'd think it would be so sad to see your loved ones come and go... through the years... starting over and over again...
now, i dont know if i can say i wont stand it... it would be different... but im sure we could bear it...
it would all depend upon the person, some might be able to handle it, and others might not be able to. i personally would not be able to sit and watch those i love dies year after year, the longer you live, the more people get into your life, the more you have to lose. but i guess it might not bother some.
After A time you would get bored.
Death helps recognize the importance of time.
to do as you can in the time your allotted.
After awile the pain of losing people would be gone. Normal vampires would spend their time reading and learning as much for the world as possible. In stories they have a mate they spend forever with. It depends on the person.
It wouldn't bother me, though I am sure that there are many who would go insane from all of the traumatic events happening around and to them.
If we are talking about being immortal vampires.
Then I say that it would not hurt because a true immortal vampire is dead at heart in a sense so they do not feel anything.
Do you mean live too lone or live too long?
If it's live too lone, I would assume that the same as any creature, some are cut out to live alone, and some aren't. It would depend on your temperament and inclination. Bearing in mind that both your traditional and modern vampires require other humans in order to survive, so they can't live completely alone. They just may not choose to share the entirety of their lives with someone. People do that now and manage perfectly well, I have no reason to doubt a vampire would be unable to so the same.
If it's live too long, true immortality is a very scary concept for a lot of people. I would imagine that your traditional vampire would be chosen with the long term view in mind, as opposed to someone would would give up after say 50 years as the future stretches interminably before them. Besides, there are ways to occupy your immortality. Find a pet cause, periodically visit your mortal descendents and guide them, etc etc. Once again it's all in the mindset.
If someone was immortal and lost everyone close to them, I'm sure they'd figure out a way to die to end such a torture.
I dont think it would bother them, but the only thing would be not growing older and losing all the mortal people you know like friends, family etc.........
When one sees history as it unfolds throughout the centuries, of the endless death and destruction from war after war, one would understand the aspect of being alone.
Immortality is not all its cracked up to be I am afraid. Just think of the psychological reprocussions. You love, you lose your love. A hopeless romance turns to ashes in front of you as she is burned at the stake for heracy. A loyal friend and companion run through by a sword in cold blood. A musket shattering your dreams when you see your fostered children fall at your feet.
The tides of fate are just, but for whom? Tell me this. Is being immortal a blessing or a curse? Now answer the lonesome dove question the right way without mocking it. Is it right to be alone without the heartbreak? Or does the loneliness reach a comfort zone you would so cherish?
If after countless centuries you deem immortality a saving grace, then think of the loss aside from the adventure you saw.
Well you must all so put into cause that if he meet the love of his life would he/she not bite that person then wouldn't the kids be vampires so none would die would they?
Thats hard to say. If they can stand to be alone, great. I know, I wouldn't mind most of the time. There is just something about sitting alone in a dark room, basking in the dead air that is so relaxing to me.
But soulshroude in saying what you said above me you believe in it to do you not?
u would think that losing everyone and watching time change would drive u mad
I believe in immortality, not the right of transformation. You are born into the bloodline, you cannot be "turned". The "turning" is the myth I was talking about.
Which is why said individual chose to foster the children. The protagonist, had to watch upon payment of their deaths at old age, which is why the individual chose to be alone. Can you not understand what that must do to the psyche?
Always losing the ones you hold most dear, from friends to closer then family. This is the way of the vampire. Which is why most stick to the groups. Even immortals have the nagging sensation to seek out a private place, which is again why they tend to stay in darker more secluded areas of society.
I think it all depends on the person ... everyone is different, so I don't know that one answer would really be true for all..... make sense or did I just talk myself in a circle?
Yes soulshroude I understand where you are coming from.
But a vampire or werewolf is like for example the "X-men" they would become outcasts & seen as a danger to there families.
Maybe even hunted down & killed that is why I say what I say.
This thread just makes me think of Highlander. On topic though, I think If a person had to they could live a life of solitude. In today's world there are all manner of diversions to occupy one's mind. Personally It would be very difficult to watch loved ones die, at first. Then after the shock wears off, I think I could pull it off.
If I had a chance to live forever I d jump on it and see the world
Like many have said, it depends on the person, but I believe most mortals wouldn't be able to handle all that comes with Immortality.
It's hard enough seeing people die as we are, so imagine going through that forever.
People in society that are not connected by family, religion (going to church) or other social networks tend to be at a higher risk for suicide.
i think it wouls depend on the person how it affected them. I think after awhile the pain of loseing loved ones would cause a person not want to get close to others and to become a loner. also the added problems of if someone couldn't find a way to change their birth certificate then the goverment would investigate why someone were to beliving that long.
Personally, it would drive me mad. I could not handle watching all the people I loved die, and live on myself.
I think to live forever would be the greatest curse you could wish on someone. I do wonder sometimes if life as we see it is just a developmental stage for our soul. If that were so, a fear of death or a wish for immortality would be like a caterpillar never becoming a butterfly.
I don't think this theory can be properly comprehended...it's just so vast.
I think it messes with their personality a bit more then anything. Giving them time to think about things way too much...and all. I think its a bit easier to go into yourself and close the world out.
I guess if someone gets used to live alone, eventualy becomes some sort of a lone wolf.
But you must all so think about necromancer that if that was the case then there are alot of vampires cause there are alot of lone wolfs out in this world.
There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. Some folks are happy being alone, as we all are at times. Being lonely means that you want the company of others. So it would depend on the person and probably their moods.
depends on weather they were alone during that time or if they had companions.
Physical Immortality - Not exactly something that can be done while living up to its own name.
Historical Immortality - Easily achieved. Do something impressive, and nobody forgets who you are, whether good or bad.
Spiritual Immortality - About that...
usualy i would think after a immortal has went threw all that dies he will want to die as well and that is tormant cause who would want to see every thing die .. it would be boring being a mortal..
if i was a mortal i couldnt love but just a watcher of the world of change..
Yeah I agree to what the above say all have interesting points & explain a lot.
yes the sorry of losing loved one would pass as time goes by…. The thrill of falling in love and looking for your loved one in others sounds quite the time passer if you ask me….
immortality is a double edged sword. sure you don't die but it's useless if you don't have one to share that with you. the loneleness would be unbearable.
alix -
Aren't lonewolves usually people who choose to be along, rather then ones who have no choice?
CxR - Thanks for mispelling my name. T-T
in my personal opinion only if immortality was real and i could live forever and have to watch those i really love die year after year i would go insane but if i had the gift of immortality to give and could save those i love i would so they can see every sunset with me and maybe help me change the world to a better place to see these thing change....
Maybe that is why humans are not immortal ..because we could not handle it.
Well our brain neural system couldn't because so much shock & grief has a way to kill the strongest people.
Now if I was immortal I would help to change the my closest ones so they could live with me for eteral life.
if i was immortal i would hate to have to watch my loved ones and friends wither away and die it would tear me up
in some way i rather not live forever ...but a part of me would want to live forever...but like it was already said that i wouldnt want to watch people that i love die...knowing that i cant do anything to stop that from happenin...
I would think that eventionally their pain would lead to their own demise, watching the years go by, watching everyone pass on, if they cared for people and had to watch them die over and over again, eventionally they would become very bitter towards imortality.
I would love to be immortal. That means, you will be able to live your life over again. You will be able to live through generations of your family. And imagine being great grandfather or mother 10x over! Never aging, Never getting old. And living through presidents, and the like.
Make your name immortal and there is a such thing
has anyone herd of Martin Luther King?
-immortality
Congrats MLK you did it!!!
I don't think immortality in a physical sense would be too exciting especiallym if you see everyone you love die. But Vlad the Impaler did it and so did Malcolm X.
It might be good to start with but i think after a while no one likes to be alone. Living for so long and being alone for all that time must cause heartache. What if you loved someone and they passed away, or watching your love ones grow old and pass on....no i wouldnt want to be immortal for anything.
Interesting topic, I would think that if a person was living through the millenia their outlook on life would have to change with the times to even survive. And I would also agree with darkwing that, after that long there would have to be sadness for love ones lost. After that long there would be many lost love ones so their heartache would be greater over time.
I dont believe immortality is possible. But if it was i am sure iit would get lonely watching everyone around u die
I think I could handle immortality. Lots of projects and a plan. Loss of loved ones painful, but the good thing about love is that it renews, the spark can grown again. Avoid the love because of the fear of loss? Not for me. If the person feared change, then immortality would be difficult. The temperament to handle change is the key.
in my oppinion they grow angry and resent immortality when they see others live and die.everything is more precious and beautiful when you only have little time to live.most immortals envy the mortals because they know that things will never seem as great as they are now, that they will never be as beautiful as they are now.
it would be interesting if it were real and i would like to experence it as long as i could take those i love with me ..
In my opinion, noone is subject to being immortal, as even the most famous among us die
It is what happens to our Souls after mortal death that could be a subject open to debate. .. It may be an idea to stay on track with what is real, and what is fantasy. :)
Immortals Choose to be alone for reasons they don't want to be botherd with simple minded people..
Who really knows. Nobody is immortal to our knowledge to tell us. But if I had to say I think the first 100 years would suck since your family from your mortal life would grow old and die while you're still young. After that probably just stay alone and just get used to the solitude unless the person found another immortal to keep them company.
VampiressRosalie, it would be much easier to learn about history than to live through all of it.
I believe that immortality can be a blessing or a curse... it all depends on whether or not you spend it alone.
Eternity alone is hell in itself.
Spending forever with a loved one can be heaven.
It also depends on attitude, and how well one can assimilate to their surroundings. Time, after all, changes all things.
If I had a chance to be immortal, I would. It would be lonely, but think about what could come out of it. And if you found a way to become immortal, couldn't you help another do so? Technically, you'd never be alone.
Devampiere, you make a good point.
Something to consider, though... if once you become immortal, your soul, in fact, perishes in some way, can you really make anything out of your existance? When there is no motivation... and nobody's company can compensate for the emptiness within. One can be lonely without necessarily being alone. How many lifetimes does it take to find ones true love... and how long does it take before you tire of them, or they change or perish?
If my soul perishes in some way, than would I not just be dead? I'm going to do soem research on that thought. One thing to think about though, unless the Mayans were correct about the world ending Dec. 24, 2012, the human race is destined to live an immensly long time. There is never really a time when you are completely alone, seeing as millions are breathing on the same grounds as you.
but if people could help other people be immortal it would be a never ending thing and everyone would live forever, talk about an over populated earth.
Than I hope the Mayan's are correct, and in some form humanity does cease to live, because more people in not exactly what we need.
Devampier, you are missing my point.
It doesn't always matter how many people you know... you can still be LONELY, even in a crowd of people... even in a group of friends.
I personally believe that some people are made to live alone ,a but we as people are naturally meant to be with other people or entities. I myself could never live alone forever.
I think it would be amazing, think of all you could learn and the changes you would see. The losses would be hard, but they would shape your life just as they do now. I would love to be immortal.
i could never live alone forever i would yern for human touch
If I was immortal I wouldn't have anything to do with anyone unless they were too
