Throughout history it seems that the number 19 has held some mystical power.
In religion the number represents the number of angels guarding Hell according to the Qur'an: "Over it is nineteen", The number of Arabic letters in the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful," being (without vowel marks) "bsm allh alrḥmn alrḥym, The Bahá'í calendar is structured such that a year contains 19 months of 19 days each, as well as a 19-year cycle and a 361-year (19x19) supercycle. The Báb and his disciples formed a group of 19, and there were 19 Apostles of Bahá'u'lláh.
In music, Nineteen has been used as an alternative to twelve for a division of the octave into equal parts. This idea goes back to Salinas in the sixteenth century, and is interesting in part because it gives a system of meantone tuning, being close to 1/3 comma meantone.
In fiction, the number 19 is used often to indicate doom (as seen as a very common idea in Steven King's Dark Tower series).

My question is this...do you believe that all these things are coincidence or could there really be signs all around us, hidden in the open in things as basic as numbers?
My question is this...do you believe that all these things are coincidence or could there really be signs all around us, hidden in the open in things as basic as numbers?
In a way its just a number in another its not, I fill some numbers may hold more over others, like every forty or fifty years a president is ether killed or tried. But also people can be the same, like Abe linken and JFK jr. its all in how you see it,
Well it is difficult to tell I guess, number signs are even included in dreams.
This is what nineteen means in dreams from dreammoods.com:
Nineteen
Nineteen indicates independence and the overcoming of personal struggles. You will find that you often have to stand up for yourself. This number also suggests your stubbornness and you hesitance in accepting help from others.
Usually I believe dream signs because many times they proved they were right or it could be a coincidance, I can't know.
However I usually don't believe that because of certain particular dates something bad has to happen, which usually the rumor is the Apocalypse, (remember the 2000 boom? Just one example) yet we are still alive.
Numerology maybe can have an effect on our life or maybe it's all in the mind, maybe it depends how much the person believes.
Certain people have a dislike for certain numbers or believe they bring them bad luck, or the opposite play them in the lottery because they say it brings them good luck. I don't trust Numerology as a tool for Divination but I still have an interest in it.
So it makes me wonder if it is numbers who have power on us or it is us who put power on them...
That is true some would say the same about the number 23
the numbers can be symbolic in history or possible a fortelling of the future but there are a lot of different issue revolving around numbers
Hmmm, I have never heard anything about the number 19 before. I have heard of others such as 7, 13, 23 etc, but never 19.
I think that numbers are used so extensively that you could pick almost any number and find a way to link it to a number of odd occurances.
My thought's simply this; math is used to describe the natural world around us. Why not the "unnatural" world? If math can be used to describe both seen and unseen, it says a lot about the importance of math in regards to truths, absolute or no.
The number 19? I was just getting used to 23.....The only reationship to numbers and anything is the probability that we will find one.
It is also a prime number. Dark Tower......great series.
Well I don't know much about the number 19 specifically, I am a believer in numerology and it wouldn't surprise me if it does have some sort of cosmic meaning.
I think that for every number u can find a dark side so i dont put much into it
Just like the last time this topic was mentioned...numbers are numbers...humans make them more then they are...you can believe what you like...but they are JUST numbers...nothing special...nothing mystical.
I do believe that Numbers play a big part in everything we do, I mean you have calendars, money denominations and well just about everything is revovled around numbers.
It could have just been a mathimatecal number that was decited on for some specific purpose at that time, such as we have 7 days in a week and some consider 7 to be a lucky number, personaly I think it may just be chance, but I do beilev some numbers have a dark purpose and meaning.
19 is the average age of the soldiers who died in veitnam
I think numerology demonstrates that every number has within it a certain meaning.
I think of it all as a coincidence, until people start applying logic to the occurances.
If someone works hard enough, they can derive meaning from any number, set of numbers, calculations, as they apply to observations and occurances.
Like, why did Cancer choose level 28 to be the level for Sire? There has to be some mystic explaination, right? Or was that just the number he pulled out of the air?
I think that the 2 represents the two types of societies (houses and covens), and the 8 represents the number that is one more than the number of houses...which represents freedom in the Rave.
sounds logic but i still think the is something more behind certain numbers.
So if all of this is true, I don't suppose that you can tell me what it means that the number on Iowa EBT cards is 19 digits?
they are? wow thats strange if someone answers i want to know.
most definately numbers play a part in our lives and hold certain powers and you may see something on something as simple as a sign posting the speed limit and an important memory comes to you triggered by said numbers that is just one example from my own personal EXP but there are many more
I totally believe in Numberology being a total influence on our very existance. I mean think about it even your heartbeats are numbered, your breaths are numbered, everything around us is numbered... Planets, seasons, months, time... so yes I am sure 19, 23, 666,333.... all numbers are significant to our life and as I said our very Existance...
Just my point of view.
BUT, remember that even YOUR DAYS are NUMBERED....
dont forget we are also given a number upon our birth SSI # for those of us in the states unsure how the rest of the world keeps track beyond a yearly cencis :)
Well, I don't believe in coincidence. I think that things happen for a good reason. If so many people are scared of the number 19 then there must be a reason behind it. It's not like someone just woke up one day and said, "I'm going to be scared of the number 19. Not 18, not 20. 19." It can't just be a coincidence. There has to be at least some merit to it, and certainly subtantial history behind it.
ok i thought that the mysterious numbers that held a great deal of powers were 6's and 7's but then again I'm a little loopy on the whole subject and don't know what any of it really means how the hell did I miss the number19? mmmmm how interesting!!!
well 7+6is 13 7 heaven 6 the mark of the beast and 3 angels of the devil half of six and the 7 angels sounding off in heaven!!! blah blah blah that is as far as I go I had no Idea there were the 19 demon angel thingys in hell came from someone explain to me...
Well number 19 is total number 10 is total number 1, see in this context too.
well in hindu calneder the 15 is most important as its full moon or no moon day.
after taht numer 8 refer to Goddess
no. 9 to teh sacrifice to goddess again number 11 is for Lord Shiva and Number 12 is for my daity who is demon God and teh features of the God Shiva. Its name God Demon Berbarik
God Berbarik became God with Solemn Sacrifice to the wishes of Lord Krishna due to Lord Krishna needed it to turn the course of the Battle of Mahabharata to the favor of Goodness.
Prior to become the God Demon Berbarik did have its portfolio when he started to journey to take part in battle of Mahabharata which was going to take place that time.
1) to fight to take the side of losing which would lead him to take part in later stages of mahabharata to change the course of it. and it means the evil forces of Prince Duryodhana would win if Berbarik would take his side coz they had to destryed in hte battle by good forces. This lord Krishna sensed and wished the head of Unbeatable warrior demon Berbarik. Which Demon Berbarik gave happily saying htat Lord Krishna always do best and this sacrifice is necessary for winning good forces in front of evil forces coz both sides were well equipped with advanced weaponery and demon forces.
2) Dont send peepal back without fulfilling their wishes.
Demon Berbarik was equiped with the universes best arrow weapon it was best sensing protecting and destroying weapon blessed by Goddess Mother Shakti (Kali/ Durga/ Gouri/ Parvati/ God Shiva's wife) it was all weapon of the cores destroying cores and spheres.
But i less believed in numbers and did believe in acts in the circumstances.
Probably all numbers have some significance in numerology. I have not heard of what 19 is or means. I have heard other numbers like 3,5, 7, 13, 17, 23. There was even a movie on the number 23 too. It was.interesting. It showed how there can be numbers in other numbers and in everything around you.
My two cents. If you pick any number and you check around, you will find that some of the current affair match that number. So, my opinion, numbers is just..number.
I think it is a matter of how much you want to put into it. If you really want it to have a meaning then it will have meaning to you. Numeorologists use this to let people have insane names, and when you look back it has not done much. You can change your name from Lisa Petersson to lin chi si or whatever the numbers say, but it only helps if you truely belive it.
You can pick any number and find passages of history and events that will corrospond with the number in question.
i think many numbers are too much of a coincidence.
Take the number 12.
12 hours in our day, 12 months in our year, 12 planets in our solar system, 12 apostles.e.t.c..
Since everything is made of numbers it seems essential for the universe to run on numbers.
If thewre were no numbers there would be no existance.
Awesome responses...keep em coming!!!! I'm learning so much.
If someone has a good numerology link, would you link it please, I'd love to read more.
Numbers I really think nothing of,
Bc really you can make any thing into the number you want it to be..
So i don't take number's as a sign..
JUst math..
i've never put much in store by that sort of thing. never had any real reason for believing in it.
Being a bahai... I'd say yes, the number 19 has significance and is nearly as important as 9.
Numbers are generally a way of simplifying an Idea... a cycle... a microcosm or macrocosm... or defining a paradigm without any actual prejudice.
Mathematics is a way of observing something without judging it. In this way... you might call numbers the language of love... because only when you can truely not judge, can you say that you love something.
I do not believe in numerology, but I like the 1985 song "19" by Paul Hardcastle.
youtube link:

19 is no different than any other number.
Numbers gain their power from those that use them and those that interpret them.
Some also believe that number 13 is also an all powerful type number. I don't know. I find myself adding numbers on license plates sometimes to see if they have a "good" feeling. It just depends on your beliefs and your practice with numbers. Is it a good day to play the lotto?
Its a number in a way the people are who gives it the power.
the number itself have no other power then the value it tells. In this case 19. But in some storyes it is maded magic.
I do believe in numerology and believe the number 19 to be both a mystical and hearld of doom. More seems to relate to the doom side of things...
I have never really taken notice of it. Numbers are being related to more and more things as we pass through life.
There have been previous posts about other numbers and my responses have been the same. I don't see the number 19 as any different from all the other numbers. The numbers might probably represent something but I personally don't think they go beyond being mere representations made by humans.
Thank you so much for your response FMRL. It was insightful and brilliant.
GolemTheDarkBeing..........how is that even relevant?
I think that there isssss sssssomething to numbersss because even in atrology there is the number thing.....
wow i didnt no about the number 19 tell i looked at meepers web post .. thanks meeper
any number though could be conected with things it is all in how you look at things and what sticks in your brain some people are drawn to certain numbers so doing research it would stick out more
i've never heard of the number 19 as a superstitious number. i've heard of some of the other common numbers like 13 but never 19
Numerologically, The number 19 indicates a new era...
numerology typically focusses on 1-9
Each number has a function in the 9 year cycle... te number 19 is the begining year of your 3rd cycle... or your maturity cycle.
Obviously not everyone starts their life on a 1 year... so some people start their adult cycle earlier than others.
Anyway... generally it represents early adulthood and the growing pains and pleasures associated with it.
Occult Numerology and the Number Nine (9)
Original material ("Flashpoint"; Texe Marrs; 8-91)
edited and expanded by Pastor David L. Brown Ph.D.
There are a variety numbers that hold secret significance within occult circles. Among the most common are 3, 6, 9, & 13. The number that we will focus in this study is the number 9. It holds powerful significance for many occult groups. Let's take a look at some of the arcane history behind the number nine.
Ancient Occult History and the Number Nine
Ancient Greek pagans held nine sacred because to them nine symbolized the 9 Muses or sister goddesses, daughters of Zeus and Mnenosyne, who were believed to preside over mankind's activities on earth. Their names were--Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, Urania.
Nine was also a significant number to the Etruscans. These ancient pagan people from north west Italy worshipped nine gods. Nine was also a holy number in Rome. According to Texe Marrs, "the Romans honored the goddess Nundina by holding a purification ceremony for male infants on their nineth day of life. In addition, every ninth year the Romans held a feast in memory of the dead."
Satanists and the Number Nine
Satanists take delight in the number nine for a couple of reasons. First, Satanists enjoy reversing, mirroring and inverting symbols, letters and numbers. When you turn the number "9" upside down you get "6" which makes up the number of the Beast (666) as revealed in Revelation 13:18 in the Bible. Second, Satanists take perverse pleasure in commemorating the death of Christ and the death of Christ is associated with the number nine. Mark 15: 34-37 reveals that Christ spoke his last words on the Cross of Calvary at the ninth hour and "gave up the ghost (died)."
Masonic Orders and the Number Nine
According to the book "Numbers: Their Occult Power and Mystic Virtues" by W. W. Wescott nine holds great significance among many Masonic orders and secret societies. He said, "There is a Masonic order of Nine Elected Knights in which nine roses, nine lights, and nine knocks are used." In fact the number nine is the number of "the earth under evil influences."
In summary, the number 9 is an important numeric symbol to many occult groups and sole practitioners. Unlike the number 13 that almost all people know has some superstitious implications, the number 9 would be considered "just another number" by the average person

Everything is possible but just because someone says the number 19 is special don't mean its true
Purely coincidence. Numbers are nothing more than numbers.
certain mathmatician use this to try and figure out the meaning of certain thing I never heard of the number 19 being used like that very intresting but it would surprise me that some number contain certain meaning
I thought this would be intresting
hope this doesnt offend any one I thought it would just anothewr way to explain the way number were used to do this decoding
I never say never, there are many things we will never really know or understand.
I am not really paranoid about alot of things being out there that are secretive and hidden from the general pu blic. But I am sure numerology has some basis in fact.
i think that some numbers hold more value than others...
i think the 19 in history is symbolic in some way
hidden in the open...
but for the most part, it is just another number...
I do believe there is some hidden message hidden that we cannot see or that we are just now touching down upon.
There is another number as well, 2012 in which the aztecs claim that year the world will end, but the number is recurrent among many other disasters and societys.
Starr
Numbers are only magickal if you put personal magick into it. Like 9 to me is an evil number...because a friend of mine died on the 9th of feb.
Well I belive that every number has some sort of history in the world.
12 apostiles, judis was the one who went to betraid jeuse to betry jesus with kiss Judis was the 13 four of them wrote the gospells that are in the bible
there are not 19john mark luke wrote the new testiment
Something s were missing they didnt mention jesus father there were alot missing after he killed him self there were 11 left. it talks alot in the book of revalation
the number4 is a big number four horses for the apolioisp
Numbers are Numbers to me especially birthday numbers like month, day and year and social secuirty numbers their only use for identification anyhow any other meaning NO
Well there is numerology and it is certainly valid and true. You break down 19 and you get 10, which breaks down to number 1. So look up number 1.
But in numerology there are several numbers to look up and break names and birthdays into. You have soul number, birth number, life path number, etc. etc. and they all mean something too.
well it probably is off the subject of the post but the number 19 is one of my lucky numbers.
I agree that numbers are only magical if you place some importance on that particular number.
I think that numerology which is what number superstition is is about as accurate as astrology, its pretty hit or miss, I mean if you dont know about it then generally you go against the prediction. It is kinda like the controvercy that Minority Report brang up, if you are informed ahead of time that you are going to do something, do you do it because you have no choice or do you now have the choice to do it or not now that you know you are "going" to do it...
I agree, nothing paranormal about it. If you look closely and pick apart different events, they could all branch back to some of our superstitious numbers in SOME way. You find what you are looking for.
its a number jus like ne other number it might have some mystical powers but not wat all there sayin
I also have never heard of any association to the number 19, as for numerology all numbers eventual come to down to a cerain number when broken down.
Interesting post.
thats right dark, and the number 777 is the number for god too :D
I dont believe in it, but I dont think its a coiencidence either. There are things in life that very few people understand and the purpose for which is for or about.
I'm not saying it isnt possible, but Im unable to give the answers to which you are looking for.
It's how someone looks to find things that "match" 13, 3 ,9 7 all "magic" numbers or just not. I do not think one number is better/worse than another. All done in fun to me.
I believe it's complete coinsidence. Why would the number 19 be any more special than 3 or 70? I don't think so.
to go bk 2 numerology the number 19 is 1 + 9 = 10 / 1 + 0 = 1 and 1 is the number for the beginning so ya 19 will probaly show up alot
every number has an influence or an impact over history in many filed, from religion to simple engeneering, some statistics are based on specific numbers to calculate what may or could happen or not.
Through out history mainkind has needed it, there is no moment when the humakind was denying the need, use or value of a number.
Without a number to relate to society would'nt fonction it would be only chaos and no logic or stabilty anywhere, and most likely the Earth would have blown up long ago.
Numbers as as vital as the air and water, they give a logic a reason to the rest, as everything is numericly based.
I have never heard about the number 19 being special. I think the only reason numbers have a stigma is that humans as a species tend to over analyze.
I've never heard anything about 19 specifically, but I do think numbers in general have a certain significance to them. Whether it's Christian stories or Wiccan rituals, you will find the same numbers repeated over and over (3, 7, 40 for example). Many urban legends tend to have the same numbers repeated in them, and look at all the buildings that don't have a 13th floor. Now whether these numbers truly mean anything or if it's only our own superstitions that give them weight...reality is a matter of perception, I suppose.
I certainly find numerology very accurate. There are few things in my opinion that numbers can't do if you just know how to use them. As far as these signs being everywhere, I believe that nothing is coincidental.
I agree, numerology is one of the most exact magical sciences. Yet all are it is just a question of how much one becomes all with the symbols in examination, like tarot cards from example.
I dont think its coincidence. it's just a number. numbers are numbers. we make them. 19 is like 3.13445698024234908. it's just a number
i dont know about 19 but 16 plays a big partin my life!!
both me and my brother were born on the 16 of the month as was my son! myself february my brothe august my son october! we used to live at 16 hampden street! i have 2 cousins born exactly the same day! 16th feb , and just recently i start college on the 16th of september!!!
also my ex wife was born 25th may and our daughter 25th sept and my drothers boy was also 25th may!
numbers are a mystic force i think the link us all in some way???
If you look hard enough there is something to each number. Like luck 7, power # 9, unlucky 13 ect. Only thing some numbers might be good/bad to you for memory reasons. If you like it , enjoy it , play the lotto maybe *crosses fingers* you might win...
Yes i would agree each person will havetheirown number that has meanig to them. Even though alot ofpeople have their own individual beliefs on certain numbers. to each their own.
THis is all very interesting to me and I thank everyone who put more information in on the subject. This is the first I have heard of 19. I know there are others numbers such as 7, 13, and 23 that people have different theories on. I just hadn't heard 19 before. I don't know if there is anything to it. I myself do not feel certain numbers mean anything, but that's just me. I have a favorite number but I don't think of it as good luck or anything like that. I also don't see numbers as having bad luck with them either. I'm not really supersticious. To each their own though.
numbers can be links but you have to be careful reading them as ill omens 19 might be a good sign for one and a bad sign for another. I don't believe that things are completely good or evil think about it even the "Devil is a fallen angel" so if you think about it doesn't good and bad reside in everything.
People seem to forget that numbers are symbolic to begin with. We choose certain symbols to stand for specific quantities. That's all. There is nothing inherently odd or mystical about certain values, even when people attempt to assign mystical or rational meanings to them.
In my work, numbers are part of the language. We use radio codes where a "21" is a telephone or telephone call. A "101" is a female or a wife. A "42" is a person's residence. It's nothing mystical or magical. It's just an assigning of meaning to existing symbols. We do the same thing to a raised middle finger.
The Bible makes suggestions of certain numbers having special meaning such as 666 being the mark of the beast or the number 777 having special Christian significance. In reality, these are just symbols applied to a logical process which tells us of the quantities they represent. The number 19 is no different. It simply means;
(1 x 10) + (9 x 1)
And the reason we use a "1" symbol and a "9" symbol is because, for the most part, we subscribe to a number base called "decimal" or "base 10". But we can represent the quantity 19 in an infinite number of ways and combination of symbols. For instance;
In binary it's "10011"
In base 3 it's "201"
In base 4 it's "103"
In base 5 it's "34"
In base 8 (octal), it looks like this; "23"
And we're not limited to bases below ten. We can move up to base-16 (hexadecimal) and then the value equal to the toes on 4 feet, with one toe missing is "13"
Each base simply changes the column values. Then you apply the same procedure of multiplying the assigned value of the symbol to the assigned value of the column, add up all of the results and get the decimal value.
So there's nothing at all special about the number 19, other than what people choose to assign to those two symbols when grouped together. That's all we're doing when we suggest that a "1" with a "9" placed to its immediate right is symbolic of the binary value 10011.
In ASCII, the number 19 is assigned to Device Control 3. So there's nothing special about the number 19 nor is there anything special about the number 666, 777, 1000, 23, 42, 69 or any other number. They're just symbols agreed upon to represent given values, based on the agreed upon system.
Have you ever seen the movie "23"?
I think numbers do have power... But I also think it's possible to read too much into it.
Though the number 19 in all of that is obviously not a coincidence. What it stands for, I have no idea.
Numbers have meaning depending on the specific culture, magickal practices, etc. You can probably find any number of meanings to all combinations of single and double digit numbers. In some cases triple digits such as 666.
I believe there are signs all around us. In the most random of things, like numbers, as you say. For instance, the numbers 9 and 11 had a lot more to do with september 11 than you think. In the Quran, I was told, there was a warning forwhat would happen on 9/11. Theres a video on youtube about it. It's really freaky.
Numbers do have great power. Math in general does. It applies to everything. The numbers that occur in my life is 8 3 0 6 in some or another order. It seems Ill only check the clock once in the morning and it always happens to be 6:08 or the Pizza Hut where I used to live was unit #608 or my sneakers were NB 608 or Id go to lunch at the mall and my tatal would be $6.08. Used to really freak me out!
Katina,
How is that not other than coincidence? What "great power" is implied by noticing the same number popping up frequently?
I think the problem is much like when a person buys a car such as the new Wagon Queen Family Truckster, for example. Suddenly you're acutely aware of other Wagon Queen Family Trucksters on the road. It's not that everyone saw that you bought one so they all went out and bought one too, it's just that since you now own one, you're more aware of them when you see one on the road. The same thing might happen if you purchase a car in pea green. Suddenly you're going to be acutely aware of every other pea green car on the road.
I can recall doing the same kind of thing I believe you're doing with your "608" example. When I started my present job, I was issued a badge number. It happens to be 1128. There's nothing special about that number but since it now has special significance to me, when I look at the clock and see that it's 11:28, it's tempting to see it as having special significance. It doesn't. It's no more special now than before it was assigned to me as a badge number. The only thing that has changed is my perception of it as being somehow special. And that causes me to take special note whenever I see that number anywhere.
VampFriend,
Excuse my skepticism but isn't it far more likely that the date of the attack was selected on purpose because of the significance of 9/11 (it's an emergency number in the U.S.), rather than being incidentally the same as something you heard about in the Qur'an? And if we accept the explanation that the attacks were planned by people from mostly Muslim countries, might they not have intentionally selected the date to go with the claim in the Qur'an rather than the Qur'an accurately predicting a significant date? Fulfilling prophecy when you already know about the prophecy doesn't really lend credence to the idea of it being prophecy.
If someone holds 12 to be their lucky number and I know this and choose to give them a present on the 12th, the number didn't cause me to give them the present, I chose to give them the present on that date. See the difference?
Is the number 85 special? How about 170?
If we convert 85 to binary it's 1010101 and if we convert 170 to binary it's 10101010. So are these numbers special? Are they somehow opposites?
It's easy to find patterns in numbers and even between numbers and little details in our lives. It's nothing special about numbers. It's just that people tend to look for patterns and we often find them even when they are of no significance.
This was actually tested using pigeons as test subjects. The birds were placed in a small cage with a series of large buttons on one side. If the bird pecked the buttons in the right order, they'd be rewarded with food. Then the mechanism was adjusted to simply deliver a morsel at random intervals. Of course the birds didn't know this so they continued looking for simple patterns. One of the test subjects apparently noticed that the mechanism dropped a pellet as it looked over its left shoulder. So the bird tried again and by coincidence, the mechanism dropped another pellet. This was enough to solidify the idea in the bird's mind and it became freakish in its frequency of looking over its left shoulder, even though most of the time, no pellet of food would drop. In human parlance, that would be called "superstition".
