How many of you have come out to your family and/or friends about the fact that you're a vampire, obsessed with vampires, a day keeper, a donor, or whatever other role you have in the vampire community? If you did then, how did you do it and how did they react? If not then, why and are you ever planning on taking that final step? Feel free to contribute in any way you see fit

my family just barly has gotten to know me..we have been seperated most of my 24 years of life..so loading everything on them at once is not the best choice...but recently i have told them about my pratice in witchcraft and they are adjusting...maybe next i will tell them about the vampyrism part..*shrugs* we will see

To answer my own question well, almost everyone who knows me knows about my obsession with vampires, but only a few close friends know the extent of my vampirism, like that I drink blood and things like that.

My buisness is my own, and I don't feel the need to broadcast my lifestyle. Not becuase I'm scared of what people will say, just becuase it's none of thier buisness. As far as family is concerned, they let me live my own life without judgement.

I know that it's not something that everyone feels like sharing with others, but I was just wondering how many of you had, that's all.

A very interesting question, my mom freaks if I bring vampires up even if its just talking of a movie

Pretty much everyone I know is aware of my obsession with vampires, as its been quite obvious since I was a small child. Only a few know just how obsessed and to what extent, as well as drinking blood etc...

For this comment I can simply say that for some people the notion of someone accepting such honor is a disgrace and for such they do not accept making it hard for such person to tell hes/her parents and famaly members.

Hell i think u'd be crazy to share with anyone because if u did id like to see u in the instution because thats what happens to those who say they are vampires in front of everybody so id watch out and make sure u can diffently trust the person u tell!

I don't follow a vampiric lifestyle am just a curious.Only most of the maltese vr members knows about the things I like.Certain people will laugh at me,and if I told it to my family they would send me to a mental hospital or bring an exorcist.(It's not funny it's serious.)They already made a fuss cause of my love for the gothic scene,I don't know what would happen if they caught me on this site!!!!Maybe the would put holy water on the monitor!

I haven't done it and probably never will, cause I'm not one, yet... because all the ways I have found by rules of the house, you must be 18 and since I'm 14, it wouldn't be possible.

I only tell people that would understand. When it comes to my family, I doubt I ever will just because they will just denounce it as some dilusion.

Considering that my mom made my then step-father wait in a five hour line for an autograph from Anne Rich for my christmas present that year...

not to mention the year they gave me a freddy cruger doll (that did not make me happy....) I think I can safely say that they figured it out on their own that I loved vampires...

Well, I started to give them hints first...You know the clothing, make up and all that good stuff...Then they found my journals and all my spellbooks...My aunt is who I am talking about of course..She flipped the f@#k out!! When I told her, what I was, she asked me why I couldn't tell her staright up and then told me that as long as I don't get aids from drinking other people's blood that she didn't care..But that was after she did all of her "Oh My Gods" and "What the F@#ks"

a few members of my family know of some of my beliefs...they just don't ask any questions...and I don't volunteer any information. I guess it's one of those "what I don't know won't hurt me" theories. I've always been the "black sheep" of my family anyway...not sure how it could get much "blacker."

Most of the poeple I know are aware I'm into vampires adn witchcraft. Though I don't really do much I mainly read abotu it. If were in the "Vampire Community" I would probably be a donor for someoen I know and trust. Not sure how they would react...

I have never had to come out .. i have always been this way.. when i began cutting teeth, and my mother was breastfeeding, i bit her.. and i continued to bite her everytime afterwards.. untill she bought a bottle, lol.. but i have always had solar uticaria, which for those who do not know, can cause a terrible, weeping , and sometimes painful rash when exposed to sunlight for too long.. also photophobia, which causes extreme sensitivity to sunlight where my eyes are concerned.. so to them I have always been the "weirdo" that I am.. it wasn't until i was older that I knew my behaviour was considered to be vampyric.. so they kinda always had to take me at face value.. after all i was there staring them in the face every day... and of course with my low iron in my blood, the doctors actually told my mother that i should eat lots of iron rich foods, but that i could eat raw meats if that was the way i was so inclinded to eat them, as long as I kept up my iron level. So i never had the opportunity to spring that on my family, but they did always treat me differently... and tell me i was satan spawn when i was bad... or showed interest in anything occult... believe it or not.. studying wicca was the big "issue" in my house.

Luckily, I've not had that problem in my family. My mother, of all people, told me I was a vampire. She nicknamed me vlad the impailer (asking her to pronounce tepes is a lost cause) it's cool now, because she gets me all the goth and vamp things I want. Although she's drawn the line at me drinking blood. ( I can still drink my own tho lol) so- my family are cool with that. they all called me lil vamp when i was a kid, so, yay! lol

My family thinks im crazy i tell them nothing. They would never understand!

I "came out" about a year ago. First with my friends and later with some of my family. The first reaction is if I had become a devil worshipper....because of the darker lifestyle, clothes and jewelry. As time went on, my friends have been more accepting of it because they see the allure of vampirism in my personal and social life. I live my vampire life openly but with some discretion.

I don't wear archaic clothes or fake fangs. I believe that such role-playing gimicks takes away from the beauty of true vampirism as an authentic dark culture. I talk about it like I talk to people about religion....only with those mature enough to engage in an intelligent discussion about the topic. Overall, I am what I am and embrace it. I will not be ashamed of what I was born as or meant to be.

I suppose coming out as a vampire would be just as hard as coming out gay to family and friends. I know how hard coming out gay can be, been there, done that. But if the family is supportive and open minded, it shouldn't make a difference.

well..yeah.. unfortunately the society..is still close minded upon certain things..and here in malta especially. I didn't have to tell my family seeing as how I grew up in this lifestyle. But far as friends and other family on my mothers side. They know about it just don't say anything. They are really understanding though.

Most of my family doesn't know, some of my closest friends don't know. It's an issue of discression. A lot of people don't need to know my buisness, and I do live in a small town with some small minded people.

I think vampires are sexy, I am not a donor, nor do I belive I am a vampire. It's a bit more of a sexual fetish to be bitten, so my close friends know, but I don't think my family wants to know that much about my sex life :)

We really have a 'Don't ask, don't tell pollicy'. Although I assume that they do suspect. I told them that I wanted to be a mortician when I was seven, and they are aware that I drain the blood out of several people weekly. They've probably put it together, and just deny it.

My father knows, because he has seen scars on my lover and I, and asked about them and I explained- he's alright with it I suppose, he just wants me to be safe with it. Then of course my lover knows, because we feed off one another. On the Psy level, no one but my lover really knows... not many people would understand it.

There are very few in my life that is aware of the things which I do. My donor, of course. One or two of my friends, and such as that. I do not believe that any who do not need to know, have the right to. It is my life, after all.

Well my closest friends, and the people who should know do actually know that I'm a vampire. My father just thinks I'm fixated with the vampire myth... so no use in explaining to him... and my sister couldn't care less... I don't talk to my mother. And my bf just adores me for this fact amidst other things!

I'm sure in some respects my mother (nosy as she is) has her suspicions.
My friends know-- the ones who actually listen when I'm talking-- and seem to embrace it and ask questions.
As of late, it's not as busy at the theme park, it's been much easier to work on feeding aspects without getting too tired.

I couldn't come out to my parents to fact of my true identity. They are hardcore sheep to the ways of the herd. The funny thing is I think they no something they are not telling me. Typical parents to hide the truth from their children.

well when i tell people that i am a vampire, a swinger, bisexual they look at me strange and then laugh. people never understand something that is different. some people think it is cool while others look down on it because of society. its just not normal to tell people about that although i do. i am the type of person who does not care about my reputation or what anyone says about me. let them talk cause in the end sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me. i live in the dark and it was my choice to make. my parents are totally against it and my being a pagan too but then again they cannot choose my life. i live my life and they live theirs. i love them a lot but if they cannot accept me for who i am then maybe there is not love there afterall. i can understand they may be concerned but i am a big girl and can take care of myself.

yep! I love my husband, truly we are soul mates. I dont talk to my dad he thinks as he puts "loney tune" and my sister says ,she has no sister and will hang up on me. she has 3 kids I dont know and my kids dont know their cousins or Aunt. and My mother is dead. She on the other hand i could talk to in later yrs. she got lung cancer and through that painful journey gained some wisdom. she would not judge and would say she didnt agree but that that was here own opinion and would love me always. so as I posted obove my husband, children and like minded close friends are my family. When I got out from house and wore black and spikes my parents wated to kick me out from house. They think I am into worshipping the devil especially when they discovered my wiccan books,incence and oils,an evil witch like those you seei n the movies,a prostitute and a drug abuser-_-

And when I'm out I often get called satanist,witch,suicidal freak from people of my age who call themselves as open-minded.

I starting coming out when I was 11. Recently they just figured the rest out for themselves. When I told them I was into witchcraft like stuff at 11 my dad went on a campaigne to try and bring me back to being a "good christian daughter" then realized I never really was one so he couldn't do that. So he had to suck it up and deal with it. Then over the past couple years he was able to put two and two together. My obsession with vampires and the night. So it really depends. I think it also helped that my father and I never really got along. And my mother doesn't really care.

I have. I was with friends and the subject came up. Of course I was working on something and had no idea what I was saying until it was over. They were pretty surprised and very skeptical until I showed them my teeth and my supply of blood in the secret frig. They went nuts! Within a few weeks they calmed down and we started to talk about it. They had many questions, and I was very patent with them. Eventually they got used to it and even asked to be a donor. I refused to allow them of course. That would be just too weird.

my family found out and sent me to a psychiatrist. not a good thing. and they also kicked me out of their lives, that is why i am alone all the time and pissed off at them.

People won't necessarily slap the bible on you. Mine did because I was 11 when I came out partically. But at the time they just thought I was pagan. But it's really your decision to make. I don't think hiding who you are is the right thing to do because that is denying who you are. It's almost as if you are ashamed. I don't see being vampiric or being a vampire as anything to be ashamed about. If you are truely at heart a vampire or vampiric no one has the right to critiscize you, nor should you take it to heart what people say about it. It's their problem if they don't like it, not yours.

i'm won't say that i'm a vampire but if i was one i think i would keep to myself or just share with someone really close to me, such as a friend. there's quite a large risk that the family won't understand it if i was to tell them that i am a vampire.

honestly at first i was scared to tell my mom but me and my mom have a great relationship and she could tell something was bothering me...so eventually after her prying it out of me for 15 minutes straight...i told her...and to my surprise i have been one all my life...my mother explained everything i was going through and how i could deal with it...it was then that i found out that everyone in my family is and was a vampire....my mother and father are both vampires and so on...but yes it was hard for me at first but i think i got the easy ticket out...im very fortunate to have a family that shares the same beleives as me...

most of my friends know im a vampirefreak.i told my mom and she freaked out.she toke out a bible and said i should pay more attention to god and go to church.she says that im a devil child.she sent me to theraphy and the guy totally bitched about it too.it did not go well she'll understand one day.I hope.

This is to everyone that is having a hard time with your family and friends understanding....dont let them stop you from being what you are...you as a vampire are far more superior to them...but dont take me wrong...we are superior but we are humble...dont go out and tell everyone your better than them because your a vampire...but just hope that one day everyone will understand...until then be who you are and dont let them get you down...
