I just found this on a friend's site. I admit, she looks good considering what she's been through, but I doubt I'd read her newest book.
I have this exact article posted in my journal, if anyone wants to read it directly. =)
oh my god.... now what vampire related books am I going to read????
I never liked her books much but she was one of the reasons people like vampires as much as they do.I do not think her new book will be any good.
It's been a *long* time since I've seen you start a new thread Narakyndryn ;)
yeah whether you like her or not she has got many people intersted in vampyres
thanks for the post- and jamie, thanks for having the article handy-I'm not sure how I feel about this-I read Anne Rice for very specific things- namely vampires-and to know that she has decided to take her career in writing in a 180 direction doesn't sit well with me. HOwever, having said that, each artist re-evaluates their life and career occasionally, but if I wanted to read that, I'd read other authors
Anne Rice is a good writer. I loved her books but do not believe I will anymore
Its not really her stories that catch me, its more the inticate details she puts into everything . . . but she never puts too much into it . . . i cant wait to read the new book!!!! and yea she got me into vamps too.
Cancer Thats My Narakyndryn!!! YAY!!! anyways i havent read that article ye perhaps I should...HE HE
I will check it out. I have read other books by her that wasn't about vampires.
that's interesting, i have always liked her books and style of writing. i am looking forward to reading her new book.
Anne Rice is not a vampire expert, she is a writter... Instead of looking at the subject of her books, people should like her writting style... I admit, the vampire lure of the books has intrigued me, but her writting style is what I truely enjoy...
She's such a great writer I don't doubt that if read, her new book would be well written. It's just the subject and her history in writing that would be bothersome. I myself won't read the book after what I head of it already.
She was an alright writer. But finding god is alright. Gonna miss her books to be honest.
it disturbs me a little bit, i don't know if i will read it but it still is very disturbing to me
The article is in the Musings department. ;) Approxiamately 3rd or 4th one in. It has her picture in there too.
Her skills an an author are quite impressive though I personally don't like her books
I love Anne Rice. And it doesn't bother me what descision she makes.
Anne Rice knows what she is doing when it comes to the night and the nights creatures....
Yeah with some hope she completely abandon the idea of vampires entirely.
what's with "she was a good writer"??
She will always be a good writer. just because a writer changes subjects does not make them no longer "good."
She gets my upmost respect for doing what she wants. She probably feels like she's bogged down by her creations and wants to broaden her writing subjects.
In my opinion she is a brilliant writer and should not be recognized as just the Author of the Vamp Chronicles.
would you want to limit yourself if you had such talents.
As for turning to god that is her choice.
And I respect her for putting her traditional style of writing on the chopping block to try something new......that takes guts.
again...just my opinion.
I don't think she does what she wants. I think she does whatever her fans want her to do.
I do agree with you on that Gothpunk though i can't say that I respect her
normally she does what her fans want.
but her new book "Christ Out Of Egypt"
begins a new chronicle based upon the life of christ. I don't think that is a subject that her "normal" fans want.
In an interview I saw a month ago she said she is going her own way with her writing from now on.
I agree with you on that WTD.
I still doubt that her new trilogy is for her "traditional" fans
books about the life of christ would definately be the opposite of what most of her loyal fans would want.
Perhaps gothpunk, for most part it could be as you're saying but after all she's always been a person to do what she felt she had to, and I feel she's going to be very successful somehow, but as they say in every sense, don't judge books by their cover. I for one would welcome her new trilogy.
As will I Yendor. I have been looking forward to it for some time now.
On the one hand, her vampire novels were good and she won't be writing those anymore.
On the other hand, God isn't a big fan of porn eigther, so perhaps her books like "Violin" that are full of cheap soft porn are no more as well.
If that is the case, then I'm curious to see what Ann Rice will write about next. What will she do without porn and vampires?
i might read it but i already have a negative opinion so i don't think i'll like it
i do like her books. all of them. So i will stand by and give it a go.
She'll probably have an interesting take on Jesus. I think she went round the bend years ago, but that isn't always bad.
she is anne rice hoe could u not like her books just becuz she is an awesome writer and made vampires popular..thats a horrible reason to not like her...i think she is amazing
We've already given her a death sentence before she's actually started... give it time.... let the book come out... and let the people who actually read it comment on it.... she has quite a way with the way she puts things.... we'll see if she keeps her style even in the new book...
thankyou jamie i had not read that just did now wow ....... it will be an interesting read i think .... cant wait till it comes out to read her new turn around book..
I always thought she was religious. I mean she just had a different perspective of it. So this isn't really a shock to me, almost a disappointment. No more vampire books... *frowns*
Jaime, thank you. I just read the article. It sounds like she has undertaken a very ambitious project. Can't wait to read it.
i cannot wait for her new book to come out. it is not the subject, but the words and how they flow that makes me such a fan for her work. i read through memnoch, but lost interest after that... she obviously has work layed out for her if she wants to keep her "typical" fans.
Many stars we seem to hold high have found God. Not just book writers but some of our favorite bands or their members as well... :(. I will however read her new book because I am open to new things, who knows.. with her writing talents it will prob. be a good read.
Its sad that "true" fans would betray her at signs of religion. What kind of open-mindedness is that?
its very sad tothink that her fans are her fans only for her subject in writing...and yess memnoch was intensly theological, but i enjoyed it because it filled in the gaps of my beliefs, which parallel hers very closely.
We all come to a place where we must make a decision on what we will do with our lives. This is her time and this is her decision. I hope she lives it well. As for her writing, if she was a good writer to you before, she will be again. Becoming a christian does not make you a lump, just a christian. You are still you with all your talents and passions in tact. If the context of her writing has changed to suit her new lifestyle then it is up to each of us if we will sample her new style or not. I support her decision and would reguardless to it's particulars because I want to see people follow their heart and do what is right for their lives.
I believe that religion is a choice that the individual can only make themselves. I respect her decision, but personally, I won't be buying it.
I am currently reading Memnoch the Devil, and I can see the theological part, but Lestat is still in the book, and he is one of my favourite characters (other than Claudia and Louis) and that is why I read the Vampire Chronicles.
I hope this won't result in career suicide because of her decision to not write about the things that has gotten her fame and fortune.
I truly wish her luck, even though I will not be buying it.
well there goes a perfectly good vampire writer shot to hell.
The book tale of the body thief I think was about rejecting the existence of god while in her later books (these books are only in the vampirechronicles) Blackwood Farm and the other sequel (forgive me I forgot) Lestat helped Tarquin vanquish his twin brother's spirit that was with Quinn since birth (his mortal birth and vampiric birth). There they witnessed the Light, a paradise where all souls will dwell; so Lestat's idea of death being gone forever I think was altered.
I do not really know if this was the book where Anne Rice found God but it rather in the process of accpeting God by accepting heaven first.
I can't wait to read her new book. I've been looking forward to this when I first heard she was going to totally take a new direction in her fiction. She mentioned she was going to write about angels but I knew it had to be about Jesus and a look at what his life could have been like as a child.
I've enjoyed reading all of her works, chronicles or single novels. Her writing style is truly something akin to some dark gothic music or a painting. Vampires and witches are interesting and has made her a household name, but...I'm still going to read this book despite the fact that most of her fans might not follow her as much.
Heck, I love a good book and I haven't been disappointed yet. Especially by Anne Rice. [^_^]
i have read the sleeping beauty trilogy and loved them, but her book belinda halted me from reading any more books by her...i was dissapointed on how there was way to much detail... you lose your objective by trying to put to much detail in to a story..its like over flowing a tub full of water
i have read her other books and i liked them but im not really looking forward to read another of hers since the last was ok
well basically i know what her books are all about..i have the collection on the shelf..but has managed to read only servant of the bones..half of lestat and half of interview..lol...sometimes..i find her a bit boring because the stories..have the same..mm..how do you say it..situations..neverthless..the characters are well defined..and i have to read those..books someday:P
I think she is a very good writer.. I love how she expresses her ideas. I think it's also very good that she is taking her work to different levels where she wants to take them to, not by what her fans want..
Nice to see you, Nara! Woohoo!
Personally, I'm very intrigued by this new turn. After reading up on the book, I thinking it's going to be a fine piece of work. Rice has a style that developes characters almost to a fault. It will be interesting to see how she does this with a 7 year old messiah.
oh well as long as she still writes those great books which i dought but ya
No matter what anne rice writes I am sure it will be good she is a very talented writer I bet she just needs a break from writing about vampires witches etc let's all give her a chance before we kill the book lol
I just found out today and at 1st was a bit shocked. part of me thinks it may be a stunt. but oh well you win some you lose some.
I normally don't really pay much attention to Anne Rice, but this is quite shocking. I've never read any of her books so I don't really have anything to worry about in that respect. But I did hear she was very talented in "horror" fiction, too bad.
Wow, All these negative posts just because she has found God. Since when does being a Christian mean that you can't write good novels? Tolkien and Lewis were both Christians and have written some of the most popular books of all time, At least wait until the book comes out and read it first before you condemn it.
thank you crimson! i was just thinking the same thing! how can we claim to be open-minded if everytime someone we consider to be "one of us" deviates from the stereotype ro changes their beliefs and we condemn them for it, when in true open-mindedness we should be celebrating that she has changed and anticipating how that change affects her writing? instead there is a lot of criticism and negativity simply becasue rice found god? i think it's great, and i admire her for reflecting such a change in her writing, how many of you could honestly do the same thing?
just because of the change of subject matter it does not demean her as an author. Yes she has created a love for vampires and vampirism however this is obviously something that she feels passionate about.
deffinately worth a try i think even if you do not believe in god (which many, including myself do not) however it should prove an interesting read.
Well she's going to have a lot of explaining to do if she plans on cozzing up to him. I think she'll lose her edge and readership. A small price to pay if it works.
I read that as well - wasn't entirely taken aback by it. All of her books have had very religious overtones, and frequently read as if she's trying to convince herself one thing or another about God.
I have always enjoyed reading stuff by Anne Rice, also some of her other naughtier reads under A.N. Roquelaire, I dont think that a change of writing subject would cause em to stop reading her books.. after all writers change subjects all the time.. no reason this wont be just as interesting as the Vampire series.
I'm not gonna stop reading her books... finding god or whatever...
Anne Rice finds God?
Well it certainly proves the therory that there are no Atheists in fox holes.
I've always liked her style of writing. She stated she wanted to explore a little in her writingwanted to do something besides vampires for a while. I think I'd read her new book, for the hell of it, who knows could still be good.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9785289/site/newsweek/
check this out if you want to sample the new book.
hmm Anne Rice. is a talented author i supose. cant say i was that huge of a fan for her books so i wont be missing her terribly.
I never really liked her books they dont captivate me like others do!!! She needs to wor on puting Interesting stuff in her books?!?! Dont you guys think so??
I think her books are very interesting!!
What books of hers have you read?
If you like books about witches, demons, evil spirits & ghosts, you might want to try her "witch chronicles."
i didnt know she came out with a new book, thats cool though, i have always liked her books. but since what has happened with her recently, it will probably be either really good or crappy, but am looking forward to the read
I've never really been fond of her Vampire Chronicles *hides* I actually really liked Ramses The Damned. But it's possible the new book could be a good read. I'll give it a shot =)
Anne Rice is brilliant author, if I do say so myself. I loved her Vampire Chronicles. What is her latest book?
Okay I listened to the audio clip...while she is still a great descriptive writer ( as far as I can tell from the clip) I don't think I'd read the new book...sounds boring as hell (no pun intended =P)
I heard about this one a while ago, apparently it's the last book and lestat finds god? I must admit I'm intrigued by the psychology of a vampire "finding god" especially from the stance anne rice has had previously on the whys and hows of vampirism but I bet it's a crock of s*/t lol
umm NecrosHaemwraith you better re-check your sources, this book has nothing to do with the vampire chronicles... it a new trilogy she's writing.
NecrosHaemwraith...which title is that? cuz i think youre thinking of memnoch the devil, and if you are, theres four more books after that...i finished memnoch, but i didnt keep reading, she got a bit dry for me after that....maybe it was the theology, but i think her first three are the best as far as ive read from her. i look forward to her new book though because it is different and sometimes writers need to a 180 change in their writing to get their steam back.
very true partyatmidnight, but try checking out Blood & Gold..so far it's my favourite one from Ann Rice.
Blood & Gold is a good book. Although there are three books that create a perspective of the "life of Marius" (Pandora, The Vampire Armand, and Blood & Gold) But yes, Blood & Gold was Really entrigueing because it was from Marius' own perspective.
As Iv'e seen in an interview from Rice, this is not a permanent change in writing. It was just something she always wanted to "tackle." She has always been quite theological with her writing, morality, good & evil, immortality. It is not so surprising to me that she has a perspective on the "light side" as well as the "dark side."
She has also noted that she is not abandoning her Vampires in any way. She is hard at work trying to get movie/TV deals with the following: The Vampire Lestat, The Mummy(still). And the Witch Chron. have been taken up with NBC for a 10 hour series.
Rice has all ways had great insight into both God and the devil. In body thief she surmised that they were actually friends and that the Satan was only doing his job.
And I don't think there was ever a better view on the devil than Memnoch.
Actually I saw a documentery some where about angels. Apparentlly in earlly Christain belief Satan was a title given to the angel who makes charges against the souls of the dead in the end.
Sort of heavens prosecuting attorney. I'm definentlly getting her new book.
personally i have noticed that she has always had great insight on god and satan, but i do not find this new book even attractive
he is always there, congratulations for rice. excellent writer, this will be a new platform for her to jump from.
Anne Rice is going to discuss her conversion on CNN
http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/
what amazes me is that someone can go through their whole life and then all of a sudden they find god, only when something bad happens in their life
mykill, thats how god works sometimes, people go through hard times and they seek an answer, they find god and learn that what they are going through will be okay in the end because what is happening now will help you deal with more in the future...kind of a what doenst kill you will make you stronger kind of deal.
anne rice has stated she wants johnny depp to portray jesus if they make her movie about jesus
WTF....kill that bitch and kill her now!!!!
she just wants to get on the holy roller bandwagon.
I have to admit when I herd that she was doing this book and found god I thought why??? Yes she had alot of tragic things in her life and yes it seems this whole God thing in the USA and I say the world has gone to the extreme, thus she could make alot of money not that she needs it I am sure so what is the ans then???
I going to blame Mel Gibson he has brain washed Anne Rice that is the only ans that makes sences to me. Does anyone have a better explanation???
Mel Gibson "brainwash Anne Rice"?????
WTF...She has always been somewhat of a "theological" student. Maybe you should read more of her work. In Memnoch the Devil she tells her version of heaven and hell, and The Vampire Lestat is a pawn in a bet between Lucifer & God.
Lestat actually tastes the blood of christ!!
She has always been very theological in her writings. Just because she has given her perspective of the "Dark side" in the Vamp. Chrons. does not mean she doesn't have an equal perspective to the "light side".
God has always been an adversary to her Vampires. He has always been there. She was never brainwashed by Mel Gibson!?...
DUHH this Mel Gibson one is one comment too far... come on, try at least try to read what she says about the matter before posting stuff such as this.
Guys take it easy it was just a joke or was that too hard to see????
that would imply that mel and anne have met....which i doubt...i also agree if the person (im gonna have to start writing names down when i post) who said that she has always been theological....memnoch was all theology with the exception of maybe a hundred pages, it took me a long time to get through it....though i agree with the views expressed there (mainly the creation issue, but thats a whole new thread).... if i remember correctly, depp would have to play the full-grown jesus, and she hastn even written that part of the story, so thats a really long way off.
A career is a career, and you have to let its take its own direction, in order for you to stay three dimensional.
i do not read that often so i cannot say either way...
I agree with gotpunkstar. and i found god as well.. he was behind my couch. i told him to get out..freak
Do you beleive in anything RaChelle?! How much do you know about Ann Rice to caste such judgement, Next time try reading her biography before posting anything so vegetably stupid, or is that anti-christian "coolness" of your more important to getting educated about such brilliant people who have given so much & at least respect them for who they are, if you're capable of it after all, because I very much doubt it... You've done very well of exposing the foolness you have based on your comment.
That's too bad about Ann Rice, but hey if she feels that she has to have faith in something that is not really there so be it, that's her choice. She probably is still the same person just with a different outlook on life, and I will still check her work out.
Her beliefs are no different then me beleiving that Anubis is my savior.
For you to say "to beleive in something that is not there" Is just your'e opinion. Not fact. You have no proof.
In fact gothpunkstarfighter12, the very esecence of faith, yes it an opinion. :)
That is correct, it is my opinion. I have no facts or proof that god does not exist. But if you think about it, everything we live by is just a opinion.
It's not an opinion that life exists.
It's not an opinion that gravity exists.
It's not an opinion that the earth is round.
It is an opinion that god does or does not exist.
Wait you already agreed to that. Sorry
But yeah I guess every stance that we take or every ideal that we live by is an opinion. Your right in that aspect.
That is true, we do stand on solid ground and blood does flow through our body, that much is certain.
i've read a couple of her books and they're pretty good. but now whats happened?
She's reached her limit in her career.
She's been writing about the same subjects for years!! She's almost to the point of retirement.
Let's give her some well deserved respect & encourage her on her new endeavors!!
Obviouslly you're entitled to that opinion and while I don't share it let me ask this:
Does the realness(not a real word, but oh well) affect the enjoyment factor of the story?
Frodo Bagins isn't real but millions of people still love Tolkien's work.
Oh, I am not saying that I don't like the story. I love it. And though, as you are inclined to believe, god may be real.... he is not perfect as so many think.
Not trying to get into a theological debate with you, Raven. There are plenty of those in other threads. Hope I didn't sound preachy or anything before, I was just trying to comment on how I felt about her new book seires, religious beliefs aside.

I did not get thru all the posts before I had to speak. I am a New Orleanian. I know Anne loves her culture, the spirituality and lore of what surrounds us here. I believe much of what has been such a switch in gears for her writing is that her life has changed. Her husband died. She left New Orleans- she is alone somewhat and in a way she is nearing the end of her life. She is trying to add a different color to her life now that all has gone a bit cold for her personally. If you know much of her- her young daughter passed away many years ago, she used that for inspiration in her books. Now at an older age with change in her life with her son grown up and moved away- her husband gone, she is handling it all differently- she's sold most of her New Orleans properties and moved to California. She is going through changes as we all do in life. Spiritual paths go in all directions, Mystical - Christain... I am a Theology major and not a Christian. There is evil to be found in the Bible- I study it because of the humanity and poetry there- and I enjoy knowing what I am arguing about :) I will enjoy reading her new book.
RavenBelmont, Wow you have very intelectual debating skills! LOL
Your first statement was "God is not real."
Then you said "he is not perfect"
If god is not real then how can he possibly be "not perfect?"
You already stated he doesn't exist, which is obviously just your "faith" or "beleif" because unless you can prove God's nonexistence it is just an opinion or theory of yours.
Before you try to state your "so called" facts. Be sure you can back it up with proof!!
