I've noticed that there are a few profiles, that have cuss words or vulgarities in the title of their name, or vulgarities within the profile. It's not that I'm a prude, nor do I mind it sprinkled occasionally, throughout a profile. But when is it too much?
I would like to get a bit of input on how the general population of Rave feels about this. Where is the line, where we must censor to maintain some sort of dignity? How much does it bother you, if at all?
i agree. a little bit here and there is not bad, acutally sometimes it helps get a point across, or it just puts a little more emphasis to something, but when it starts to appear through out the whole profile repeatedly and such, then it is getting to be to much. but there is not to much that can be done about it till there is a rule that limits how much can be in there.
I completely again with Jason....cussing doesn't bother me...it just aggravates me when it's used immaturally...
Yes, for instance, quips like, "...fucking your mother...", and "...cunt", this and that. *wink* I agree with you both. *smile*
Nice one Jason, Mr. Fuckity Fuck.
Cussing in the profiles dowsn't bother me unless it is every other word as Jamie was saying. Then it is a bit much.
What gets me though is the teeny boppers who start their profile with "If you don't like me I don't give a fuck"
It seems like all of them have this trend.
Vulgarity doesn't bother me if used in the right terms and not overly used . I believe that the younger generation is using the vulgar language to make them seem older online. The one thing that they don't realize is it makes them stand out more for their immaturities.
I will have to agree with Jason and Everyone else on this topic. Enough is enough. If you want to be taken seriously act like an adult and find more mature words than "fuck" to express yourself. I'm sure their parents had to enstill some form of common sense or manners in their offspring.
I have to agree that the vulgarity in some of the profiles that i have seen is really appaling.. and most of it coming from the 13-16 year old bracket...if only they would realize it doesnt make them seem cool but more childish than anything. I mean why bother to make a profile at all if you cant event describe your self except to say something like you are a slut or use a quote such as "life is like a dick, when it gets hard fuck it? I mean come on..have some originality.
Personally, I honestly believe there are no "dirty" words. It's not the words that are dirty, but their context.
Immaturity is not the sole excuse for profanity. I cuss all the time; it's part of my vocabulary. Comedians and movie producers love the shock value of the words, but it seems they are no longer taboo.
Sure I could use other words instead of vulgar ones, but then I'd have to stop and censor myself, when a good well-used cuss word can say more than an alternative. Depending on who I'm talking to, I do censor myself -- specifically around my kids. I try to anyway.
When I come across a profile here that is full of profanity, I usually just skip over it. If I were truly upset (I'm never offended by cussing) and felt a line was crossed, I might consider ranking their profile low. That's what I'd recommend for anyone who really dislikes such a page.
But there are no rules here about removing or editing profiles because of such words. There IS a diference, however, where the profanity becomes libelous or directed against a specific person, indeed against a user here on VR. THAT something can be done about.
There is a trend of this getting worse here, but one needs only realize that the angry youth of the primary dominant age group here thinks it's cool, or just funny. They think they're George Carlin. Or worse, they think they have the right to say what they like without consequence.
As for user names with profanity in them. There aren't that many, though the numbers again do seem to be rising. For fun, I did a quick set of searches here on the profiles. Here's my tally:
asshole - 1
bastard - 1
cock - 1
cunt - 1
piss - 1
shit - 1
fuck - 5
damn - 8 (form of Damned, usually, ala Queen of The Damned)
bitch - 22
hell - 35
Finally, most appropriate for VR: bloody - 55
The official stand, and Cancer can correct me if I'm wrong, is that these will stay as will any profiles. The libelious, intentionally abusive ones wil be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
interesting numbers u got there....i thought they would be higher as well...
I agree with all of you.
To much vulgarity on a profile, not only makes it lack on class, but also reveals immaturity. And to see it all over a profile, makes me think "boy, and I'm the one with the limited english vocabulary..."
Becides, in my oppinion, it's a lot more sneaky and classy to bash on people you just HAVE to say you hate, with other words then just the usual fucks, and shits (sorry)...People could learn the art of sarcasm, that doesen't need vulgar words to completelly thrash something or someone. *evil grin*
Another thing about the abuse of rude words, becides proving that the person can cuss (big deal..so did my baby cousin when she was 4...in two different tongues *ahem* moving on): it reminds me of babies, in their 4th, 5th moth of life, when they learn a sound and repeat it over and over and over again....It's a bit ridiculous when your trying to prove you're a grown up...
But how do we get pased that, without entering the realm of "telling people what they can say"?...It's hard if the person that cusses more than speaks doesen't have a small notion of what minimum politeness is...
Well, it's one delicate issue to deal with considering the same persons who usually use such "tactics" to get through in this site would have the tendency to end up getting the most of it or at least thats how I feel it. It happend more then once or twice that users delete & come again with new "clean" profiles just after a matter of weeks, if it were for me I would construct a filter on strictly hardcore words but like say F*ck or Sp*rm but obviously if one has to get through there are many spelling variations or so. Case-to-Case questioning of such users is defintely possible considering 30 people join VR on daily basis.
I agree wholeheartedly with you ElderDaniel! They don't bother me. I just move on if someone has nothing better to say than that. Colorful flourishes add though, to prose.
By the way, I cuss too, and censor myself to a certain extent for some people, in certain circumstances....a time and place for everything. I believe that sometimes it's necessary to cuss, to get one's point across. Hell, my second language is SAILOR!! *laughing* I think it can be funny.
Elder, you probably found a few of those in my profile, didn't you? *laughing*
Vulgarity doesn't bother me but there are a few pros that are excessive. Use it to make a point or not at all but then again there is no need to be vulgar if you have a better vocabulary (Just a suggestion to ya'll)
It bothers me a lot.
It is because some poeple since they're young, they think it's a cool thing and do it for attention.
In reality they are ridiculous.
I admit I am the most guilty for cussing and in my pro there are some petty words, but to a limit and with a reason.
I didn't write things like:I don't give a fuck about you,if you hate me I'll kill you cause am a bitch/asshole and lots of other nonsense yada yada.
Also I've noticed that certain vulgarity is even used in profile's comments and I don't find this fair.
Tnx for bringing up this topic.
it doesn't bother me too much. But as said before, when it is every other word, or when it is directed to certain people, race, or sex than yeah it bothers me. I mean come on most of us here are mature adults, or at least i would like to think so.... but hey to each their own i guess.
Yes, it depends on the context and intention behind it.
I mean, my profile features the odd inventive bit of swearing (and my portfolio, come to think of it) but tongue is firmly within cheek. And I'm old enough to know better. Which may not be a good thing heh
I suppose when there's obvious malice behind its use, then it can be problematic.
But for the most part, it doesn't particularly bother me. Sticks and stones.
very much depends on the context.
I hate seeing the lill teen-boppers using fuck this and fuck that and your a whore every tenth sentance.
I may have soe vulgarities in mine, but i try to keep it down.
you just need to see what age people are who use cussing in their profiles ;)
i have already dedicated a wee passage in my profile to confrontational profiles. they need to grow up. maybe its only a phase in their lives where everything is against them
not much dose bother me so no...if they want dumb user names thats there problem...i always used to put things like fred as names in games but its just not good enough lol but i dont care its up to them =]
It doesn't bother me too much excpet for when it's done by females and they give themselves retardly degrading names. Anything having to do with the words whore, or slut, or skank anything like that is not only tastless, but a sign of little respect for the female (s)! >:0
As for cuss words that never bothered me, unless they over inndulge in it...
It is early, and the cat will not leave me be or my coffee. My comment to this is that I do beleave swearing to be at times an art form when not over used. First joining this site I asked a mod how the community felt about swearing in posted litrature. In my case my writeings come out of raw things feelings times happenings inspired. So a cus now, and then is to be expected.
Those of you who know me in the least know I am a person of at times few words. But in the case of this matter I do find the over use of colorfull words to drown out the purpose at times of what is being said. There for the over use of said termed cuss words is seen by me at least to be of less taste. As an example I would NOT make a user name such as....
" I fuck you this or that you fucking what ever"
If I made such a user name I would expect among a community that wishes to be I think of the more mature veriety to have someone explane to me that such things are not looked highly of.
If said over use of cussing was to be offically deemed bad I would make the sugestion of saying so to an user instead of a deletion. You can show a person the back of your hand.... or you can offer a clam rational opinion. Sometimes the clam opinion is best for in the persons respons you can best deside what form of being you are dealing with, and with in its matureity.
Once again sorry for spelling I am balenceing a cup of coffee, and a cat.... and rice crispy bars that sad cat seems to be detrament to have for his own.
Sorry cat.... fuck off!
:)
You can tell someones age/maturity based on the things they do of that nature. Personally I could care less, but I also realize it's ignorant, younger people..... crying gor attention.
I'm like Jason-if that's the first thing I see, I drop a low rating, give them a "nice attitude" remark and move on-they are only doing it for shock value, and at my age, it will take a helluva lot more than that to accomplish it. I see no purpose whatsoever in just using it for the sake of trying to impress someone, and while I have no problems with swearing in general *hell yeah!* I do however have a problem with the C word. That I find offensive-I do not advocate monitoring these children, because that crosses a bit too close to impeding free speech, and that would affect us all. If these kids want to look that immature and ignorant, I will fight to the death the right for them to do so. HOWEVER, I am not going to give them a high rating for doing so-
In some cases, they're seen as 'big people words,' as my cousin would call them. Their use signifying how 'mature' the perosn is.
However I personally feel the fewer the better. It proves you are far more articulate than first thought, I'm sure.
There's a few more usernames with the C word in it. It just boggles me how anyone would want to use that word in their username!¿! o.O
I don't really mind any words too much, except that one I only use it when I'm really angry...
There was a comment on a profile with the 'N' word. I don't him to watch his mouth over his comment.
Sorry people. I meant to put I *told* him to watch his mouth.
A sequence of words is just expressed thought. When rating a profile, you are reading the thought process of the owner of the profile. If it is in any way offensive to you, then you have the option of rating lower. Profane words , just as any other words, are mere attempts of self expression. Censoring this would just hinder people from fully representing themselves. Perhaps they really are vulgar and dimwitted -- If that is what they have to offer, so be it.
My profile has profane words scattered everywhere. I intentionally included them so that I could give an accurate introduction to myself. I, however, don't think that it is offensive to anyone. I mainly use them to add meaning to what I have to say.
♥
At first my profile is clean of profanity. But then I didn't know what else to put in without using them so I use them. Sounds like an excuse, I know.
I have swear words in my profile here and there, so you can understand my angry passion behind some things...I don't really have a problem with swearing and if other people swear 10,000 times in theirs anymore, it just shows you they have a small vocabulary. ;)
But I also see it as pointless to waste profile space with the same words over n over again. I'd rather read more about that person...
Even I have some cause in what I've written in my pro, comes from my heart, even the I hate it here and want to get out for this and that reason.
But at least not 5000 times fuck this and fuck that and am the bitchiest of all so watch out!blah!
we have all used words such as those to express a great deal of passion behind what we are discussing, and that's fine- it's the kids who use them because they are too lazy to use a more intelligent word or phrase that irritate me-just swearing because you can't or wont do any better is just a sign of stupidity to me
wow...i dont care about cussing at all....i have a horrible cussing habit and other ppls dont bother me
a little here and there doenst bother me i dont cuss much but hey its the world now that does its everywhere you go
Vulgarity doesn't really bother me so i think it is okay as long as it is not obsessive and ignorant use of it
LOL... o.O Don't know what my patients thought of that sound bite... note to self- keep volume down when working...
I did want to add that some of the profanity does have context. I know a friend's profile has a string of profanity that I was actually taken aback from... until my brother pointed out that it was a quote from "I heart the Huckabees". So when in doubt I now ask.
This goes out to pink...you said to me one time in the past that you call and consider yourself a bitch as you and your friends(female) call each other. Why would someone that chooses to use the c*nt in their s/n bother you. I really don't need an answer...just something for you to think about.
And whatever someone wants to name themselves as an alterego...be my guest
It bores me to read those profiles with nothing more than an angry, yet drab reflection of their thoughts, often poorly displayed for us to judge.
Cussing definitely does not bother me one bit! But some people do get a little ridiculous..thats when I just ignore them!
true stabb...they wonder why people rate low or act ingnorant without "knowing" them...but If it's just theior s/n...who cares really. I think a good vulgar name might break the ice or it might make it harder for people to want to get to know them...I personally care less of someones s/n
i dont care at all if a profile or name has vugarity in it. its just people expressing themselves even if sometimes they get carried away. but if it REALLY bothers someone......either report it or dont look.
I just understand how they can get mad when we rate their profile low if that's all there is to their profile- I mean seriously-
the use of trash or gutter language doesnt effect me one way or another as at times there are proper contextes that allow and where its use is desired to make a point . That being said abundant and pointless use of such language just shows low class and bad raiseing and no proper education .
no...it just shows the age class of the majority of members joining the site.
their teenagers who are trying to find their own niche and are using grown-up words to make themselves seem older and more educated. The same way certain people on this site claim to be "true" vampires and "lycans" and actually think people are going to believe them.
I think as long as the vulgarity isn't meant towards someone else, it is the person's own porogitive what they want to write about themselves. Think about it do we really want to fall into the category of censoring ones thoughts, like the powers that be do.
i am bothered by the profiles that have every other word being some sort of cuss word or phrase. When i see this, i automatically either stop reading or i give a lower rate. to me, it shows that persons ignorance and immaturity and i feel that i dont have to put forth the effort to read because they could not put forth the effort to put thought into their profile. i am not sure how i feel about putting restrictions on vulgarity because in some cases, the best word to discribe a situation is a cuss word...but i do feel that there should be a limit on just how much you throw them around.
And you are 100% right zubi...
They SHOULDN'T complain. ...but you know they will...lol
I can tolerate it, but it just automatically lowers my opinion on the person if every 3 words in their info happens to be a cuss word. I know some people can express themselves better with such language, and a bad word thrown in here and there to emphasize a point or opinion isnt so bad, but enough is enough. I see no point in ranting on and acting mad by cussing; it only makes the person look immature and wanting attention. Thinking you're badass doesnt gain you respect, in fact, it usually lowers what someone else thinks of you overall.
during a public speaking course i had to take it was mentioned that profanity was considered "filler words" used by ppl who can't articulate their thoughts coherently...i remember that when i read profiles where profanity abounds...
cusses also are sometimes the only words that will get your expression across correctly
Theres a big difference between: I'm gonna hurt you and I'm gonna FUCk you up!
I don't think its nice to see them in profile names as it shows a bit of a lack of respect towards the site.
In profiles its the same, every now and then, fair enough. But not every other word.
i suppose its a vulger way of expressing their self? lol if they like why not go ahead. just dotn make the whole thing filled with it....give us something to read thats not overly profound
*laughs* very explanatory Cancer ROTFL
yeah, I think a point is being proven here.
Cuss can be funny at times, but when a quote says "If you don't like me f*** off", that's just rude...Picture this: you enter a club, you might know some ppl, but when you introduce your self you say "f*** off!!"...come on...been there myself, exactlly to prove I was a grown up, and I could cuss...and I say Damn a lot, but not with malicious intent.
Is darn (sp?) more acceptable? I need to look in my slang dictionary again, because I don't like to be offensive to anyone.
If some fucker sits his fucking ass down and fucking cusses fucking constantly, like that, it gets a bit annoying. I don't see a big problem with swearing, I try not to do it toooo often as I feel like I have no clue of the english vernacular other than ebonics.
well you can see how old a person is just by looking at the name on the profile. do not believe me, try it sometime.
i think it is happening way to much
it really does not bother me to see that people cuss and things like that i mean telling that they can not ould make it so that the rave is just another place where you must change the way that you are so that you can be accepted and well i like that i can be my self here ......
I think there is a difference between cussing and being vulgar. The occasional damn, shit, hell, and even fuck I can forgive, but the C word is just vulgar and demeaning. I don't like the N word either.I actually saw that once. These are dirty, hatefull and ugly words . The other thing that bothers me is some of the content in some profiles. I don't want to know the sexual exploits of a 14 year old. Yuck...these kids have absolutly no dignity. Where the hell (see, that's ok) are their parents?
I occasionally use colorful metaphors in my speaking and I will even allow it to creep into my writings every once and awhile as needed to press a point. I don't mind reading over profiles filled with those same colorful metaphors that I occasionally use, but when they invade the usernames, enough is enough. If I choose not to see a profile loaded profanity, then I simply don't go there. But to have it out there where every visitor who comes here gets that as a first impression is going to far. Imagine setting up your well thought out profile and cool username, heading over to levels and looking at your peers "Pottyshithead" & "Imadirtyslut".
A quote I have in my profile:
"Profanity is the crutch of a conversational cripple." ~ Jay Alexander
Pottyshithead! That's hilarious! I love the sound clip Cancer, that rocked. That is classic.
I agree, with everyone. I can identify with each. It was the usernames that spawned the thread, as a matter of fact, mainly. I saw the cunt and fuck words in two names and was like, "Um, huh?!". Also noticed it in the quotes.
I am so glad, though, that here you can be who you are and not be ridiculed. So is that who they are, "Twodogsfucking"? That was an example. *laugh* I haven't found one of those here...yet.
I will honestly tell you I pretty much skimmed this thread as I already know what most people have to say about this subject....
Personally I cant stant reading profiles with only one phrase...
Examples
"Fuck you all"
"I dont fucking care"
"Fuck off"
blah blah blah... Its just Rude to waste profile space with nothing but (pardon me) stupid BULLSHIT!
i think a bit here and there isnt bad but sometimes ppl get really carried away and sometimes they dont realize it and other times they do and just abuse it .there has to be a way to keep it to a minimum maybe a language filter or something .
i think that the over use of profanity is a sign of ignorance and their is a lot of that out their im not saying that the occasional cuss word makes you an imbicile but when you cant go 3 words without profanity you just might be and people do need to put filters somewere between ther brain and mouth and if they cant do that someone needs to do if for them
I have no problem with vulgarity but theres a line where its just plain trashy!
I think the use of profanity is about context. The fact that people here are upset over the use of profanity shows that its a very powerfull way of conveying thought and enciting emotion. In my opinion one of the best uses of profanity was Ginsberg's use of fuck and other profanitys in his poems. He wrote about the war, what it was like for a homosexual to live his life in the 60s. Now I am not saying that any of the people here will be the next Ginsberg but really who are we to stifle someones creative expresion.
Look at my journal,it is full of rude words cause there I expresds myself.
But thing is that it's not bad when it is used as an expression but to use rude words to shoe how much of a ''cool'' you are. That one I can't stand not when it used to as expression, cause if I judged that I would be the most guilty cause I cuss like a sailor in a bad mood!
And like moonmystic said:There's a difference between cussing and being vulagr.
Being vulgar is when you use rude words in vain and to offend, cussing is when you use rude words cause you are angry or want to make it clearly that certain things annoy you.
Well, since my name has bitch in it, figured I would post. *smiles* I used it as a form of expression about me. Wicked angel being the dark good angel I can be and the nasty annoying side of me bitch..bitch being the nasty word for it...Not trying to degrade myself...just being honest about how my emotions can be at times. In my profile, I have no other cuss words. I don't like reading a profile that is filled with just cuss words on every other word but I don't have a problem with the occasional ones in there if it is being used as a form of expression. hehe Just my opinion. *smiles*
Well... my two cents on the subject... ;)
Swearing doesn't bother me.. but swearing for the fun of it or 'cause you think it's "kewl" kinda aggravates me.. but as reasonate and kind person that i am :P i usualy accept ppl and theirs flaws... and i have the freedom (which i often exercise) to ignore somene who is offensive even with their nickname...
oh well....
Cipher
I feel that when someone uses cuss words or swear words as an expression of themselves.. that is ok.. to get a point across, or to express feeling...thats ok too, but when you are being plain vulgar just because you can, or just for the sake of being vulgar... that's just common... i mean be original.. dont call yourself a slut because you think it will earn you attention.. . because it will... the wrong kind.. i know people say that they don't care, but in my opinion, if you call yourself a slut or a whore.. then that is what people will think of you ... dont get mad when they treat you that way... I think if you want the higher ratings, and nicer comments and respect... respect yourself first, and others will follow suit.
vulgarity in profiles doesnt bother me at all it gives people their own sense of self... if people wawnt to cuss and be themselves who are we to try to srop them? And I also agree wth Jason...
it doesnt matter what we think is good or bad with swearing it all about how others percive us i dont realy care what people think when i turn around and hit my thumb with a hammer and start cussing my but of or when some one insults me ill cuss them up and down but what does it acheve ? nothing really its just how we express ourselves and i agree with the fact that if u call your self a whore u will attract bad attention to your self but we as people have the right to express our selves in any way but if you chose to swear dont censor your self let it fly free and fast i am sure u would not like me trying to censor what you say or do so dont try and censor the way others go about expresing themselves
it is like a circle it will not end only keep going
***Akirial***
I cuss like a sailor. With that said, there is a time and place not to.If people have nothing intelligent to say let them profane away. We will know all to easily who isn't worth talking to.
I don't really give a [F] . I know one of the guys with the word [F] in his username and he's a very nice person . I'm not upset to see the [F] in one's profile or username at all . Then again , I'll be 18 in February ... :)
[F] - The act of sexual procreation between a man and a woman .
BTW , nice backgrouns sound ... LOL ...
The background sound is educational. It could help people with an English test. Now children, use sylibles and sentences when speaking with the word 'fuck'. And try not to put so many in one sentence. You gotta put space between them. lmao
Anyway as I said ealier, sortof, I try not to put so many in my profile because it gets boring after a while.
Hmm it just hit me ..."Fuck" is shorter and easier to spell then "The act of sexual procreation between a man and a woman ." ... And many users might have trouble spelling that ...
Being vulgar is juvenile...and Like Jason I quickly assume that the profile is writen by a juvenile that has'nt much to say..and I move on..
I don't know if anyone mentioned it but what from what I heard, 'fuck' is (or was I don't know) a club from Britian (or something like that). At first it wasn't a cuss word. But then later it's used as a cuss word. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
The only dignity that is lost is that of the people who make the offending profiles.
A handwitten paragraph can say a LOT about a person, as we all know from rating profiles. I've noticed that the people with such profiles and usernames never tend to stay on the site very long, or fit in very well with other members... do we really have to ask why? :-P
i don't like the fact that it is used. however if people don't like the cussing then they won't talk to or make friends with that person. it detracts from the site but they are getting the real loss. not the users.
i think it is ok unless it used in a harmfull way or in a way that offends other people i say if your using it to be funny make sure the person knows frist
i dont mind the cussin an vulgarity, but when the words are being used so much that thay lose meaning, its just stupid, i also like the creativaty of some of the cussing ex. go outside an play hide an go fuck yourself! that one makes me giggl some times, il apologize right now for thos that will see this post an get mad at me, "im sorry"
well i have no probelm with it either but when it is to much.. it needs to be fixed i do cuss myself but not often..
who cares it is just a word and we are the ones who empower the word with its vulgarity or its meanings so why not just let it be a word and just leave it alone
I usually ignore. Best thing to do I suppose. They usually go as quickly as they come anyway as many of you already said.
Its not like someone is outright saying Fuck you to someone, its just someone with a lack of better thought or someon who thinks that whatever cuss word they are using would look good in their profile. Now if it comprises of a good 1/8 or more of their profile then its just overboard.
Yeah or that only you find a profile with one sentence which says:
ihateyouallyoufuckingfucksiamgoingtokillyouassholes
At least be creative and use punctuation, the space bar, pharagraphs etc...-_-
Hahahaha, yeah I swear its bad when its americans that are spelling so horribly, its worse sometimes I swear when I see 14 year olds from England spelling so poorly, I mean its ENGLISH. But we digressed so its just a sad thing to see wen people can't find any other way or refuse to use a different way to describe themselves or speak.
The use of swear words, as well as poor writing abilities combine to tell me one thing. The level of intelligence at work within the original typist.
Personally i have nothing against swear words....but if a person abuses the previldge to cuss then it becomes extremly annoying...but that's my opinion.
I don't think we need to make any rules about it. It is impossible to legislate taste. If you don't like something, speak with your rating.
It makes me wonder if these vulgar people aren't intelligent enough to use other (better) words that profanity ALL THE TIME.
I don't think so- I have seen equal amounts of kids the same age as these cretins creating the most lovely and thought provoking profiles..I don't think it's a matter of age or intelligence, I think it's just plain laziness on their part...from a generation that expects everytihng to be done for them ,home delivered and here yesterday, but that is no excuse not to put forth some effort-I thin STABB said it best when he said you get out of it what you put into it-and to that end, I always rate low on those profiles and I say so. If all they have to say is "if you F***G want to know, ask" I let them know that there needs to be something there for me to ask ABOUT.
I agree 100%.. Yesterday i ran across a new profile "DeathsDream13" this was the 2nd line of her profile. " well u have a picture so u are free to be the judgmental fuck that u are " I'm sorry but that right there turned me off of her profile.. i have no wish to ever talk with this person on VR.. you can get people to read your profile without using vulgarity.
This is what I think about it. I believe that each and everyone of us have our own reasons for using the names we use or putting what we do in our profiles. So I believe that the administration will deal with any that is overly vulgar. They are the judge and jury. I think they have done a great job up to this point and I believe they will continue to do a good job. So over look the childish behavior and just have fun. That is what this site is for. Fun and information.
to each their own.. if you dont like it dont read it..i could care less if people cuss or not.. if i dont like their words i dont rate them well..but there are those who do not like to have it in their face everytime they open a profile..
Profanitty doesn't really bother me. I tend to skip profiles that are excessive as a lot of you have all ready said. The thing that strikes me as funny is "I don't give a fuck what you-" think say rate ect.
I think if you really didn't then you wouldn't need to include that in your pro.
I dont really mind... infact I am kinda glad it allows them to be open and free... you can get a better feel of who they are. Nothing being hidden. You know who you are talking to.
It doesn't bother me at all. Regardless of frequency of use. I choose not to be overly-excesive myself and beyond that, I could give a shit less what other people do.
It doesn't bother me but what I have noticed is that is the younger generation whom use what you speak of.
It is my belief that how a person speaks portrays the bigger picture of how the person is. For some, this may be a good thing, seeing as how they are not afraid to be themselves. On the other hand, it also can make them seem rather childish. However, I am totally anti-censorship. We live in this country, and one of the rights that we have is freedom of speech as long as it doesn't infringe upon someone elses rights. As far as I can tell, you still have the right to walk away, or in this case, quit reading.
Vulgarity has been around forvever, It does not realy bother me. But I think, there is a time and a place. If we are discussing vulgarity in Profiles, How about vulger displays in portfolios?? Such as the finger. Is showing it as bad as writing it???
In case you were interested in some info I found.

Another good one
Ok, we all have thoughts on this issue. Most of us agree that it's not cool or mature... and that it's an issue in our whole society, not just here.
I have to admit that I've stumbled across a few profiles that had more profanity than I like to see. However, I was actually more offended by the ~attitudes~ than by the words, and either simply left or left low ratings.
A few of them, however, still got high ratings because a lot of serious effort went into the creation of the profile - beautiful pictures, artwork, music, interesting quizes, etc....
A thing that amuses me is when a person in their pro writes:I don't give a ____ about anything.
Then ask you:Why you rated me low?If you don't give a ____then why you're asking me this question?
Like it was said before:If you don't like it don't rate it.True but I find nothing wrong in discussing this:)
If the dictionary has the f word in it, then it is reasonable to assume that people can use it in their every day language, and have free choice just like every word in it. Here is the dictionary explanation of "fuck"
Word History: The obscenity fuck is a very old word and has been considered shocking from the first, though it is seen in print much more often now than in the past. Its first known occurrence, in code because of its unacceptability, is in a poem composed in a mixture of Latin and English sometime before 1500. The poem, which satirizes the Carmelite friars of Cambridge, England, takes its title, “Flen flyys,” from the first words of its opening line, “Flen, flyys, and freris,” that is, “fleas, flies, and friars.” The line that contains fuck reads “Non sunt in coeli, quia gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk.” The Latin words “Non sunt in coeli, quia,” mean “they [the friars] are not in heaven, since.” The code “gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk” is easily broken by simply substituting the preceding letter in the alphabet, keeping in mind differences in the alphabet and in spelling between then and now: i was then used for both i and j; v was used for both u and v; and vv was used for w. This yields “fvccant [a fake Latin form] vvivys of heli.” The whole thus reads in translation: “They are not in heaven because they fuck wives of Ely [a town near Cambridge].”
i don't believe that there is a problem with using bad language although i do not use it very often. As you can see in my name though there is the word whore but i put it there because it describes me and i am not asshamed to admit what i am.
its funny, the word fuck isnt even a word at all, it was short hand for " For Unlawful Carnel Knowledge" way back when the law officers used the short hand when aresting some one dealing with a sexual nature, an the word shit is the same way, Ship High In Tow, this was when fertilizer was shipped in boats an stored low, the methain gasses built up an were conbustible so thay started shipping it high in tow so the gasses would disapaite,
