I have always had a fasination with graveyards. And was wondering what you all think of them. (And know it is not obvious. I happen to know a vamp that hates graveyards, 'cause that's where she was turned and she hasn't fogiven that vampire for taking away her life, even though she got 'imortality' in return....) Also I'm curious as to know what is your favorite thing to do in graveyards. Mine personally is having sex on a grave, but hey. Yes... this was indeed written out of boredom, in case you were wondering.

If i am in a grave yard it is to pay my respects or to wander in thought... although i do respect all dead bodies by not walk or doing anything over their graves.. My own way of respects towards the dead..=)

Graveyards are for the liveing, and not the dead. Yes there are dead people there but really there more for the liveing to come to. I always thought they should be designated as public parks.... enough people go joging in them. There also a good place to come, and think. You know bring coffee... feed the birds.... reflect.

I do not enjoy graveyards. I've been to way too many funerals, and I've always had very bad vibes when I'm at one. I figure I'll be spending enough time at one eventually....why waste any more time visiting one now?

I happen to have great respect for the dead. And graveyards are beautiful. Especially the ones back in upstate NY and VT. I used to take care of a cemetary for free and stuff on my own accord. It was no big deal, but i do miss it. And they'e wonderful to just go to when you want to get a peace at mind. Pisses me off when ppl desocrate them and break the headstones.

I find Graveyards to be very beautiful if they are filled with tombs. When i see them in photographs it seems so peacful.

I, two have respect for the graveyard. I wouldnt want to walk over their graves or even have sex in the graveyard ever. But if ever did do walking over their graves I would say my apologies to them. I know it sounds messed up but hey thats how I am.
What really pisses me off is when I see on the news that grave sites were vandanize by a group of punk teenagers. I swear karma will hit those teenagers and they will be regretting what they did.

I absolutely love cemetaries. Here in New Orleans we have cemetary tours.

If you know much about New Orleans- we cannot bury because of the sea-level. New Orleans tombs are above ground because of the soft ground...graves would float back up to the surface if below. After a year of being in the tomb, the intense heat we have will creamate the bodies, they then sweep the ashes to the back and make room for another body. So there you have family crypts.

I enjoy visiting the cemetaries and looking at the dates and life span of each of the family members- and reflect on what I have learned about our history. Why did they die? It gives me inspiration for my muse. And I also like to observe the ethnic backgrounds of everyone there. Espeically here in New Orleans with our rich culture. Although we are most well-known for our French culture, we have the highest Italian population 2nd to New York.

Being a prodominantly Catholic population, our cemetraies also house amazing statues and decor. And not only all this- but if you are in tune with your spiritual side, you will feel amazing energy there. I don't believe souls hang around there corpses after death- but I do believe they stick with people and places, and New Orleans is filled with spirits- and cemetaries (here) are constantly filled with living people.

There is an old story here about a man in the 1700s who was not of wealth- but wanted to join a 'country-club' so to speak. The members laughed at him and said he would never be allowed on the grounds due to his status/pedigree. The man never forgot this- he was motivated to make himself a success, and as the years passed on- he gained wealth beyond his own dreams. He went back to the country club, bought the entire property, tore it completely down, and turned it into a cemetary. He is now in that cemetary front and center for all enternity- the exact place they said he would never be allowed to set a foot in.

To be perfectly honest I don't like graveyards they scare the hell out of me although one time during my drug using moments I was so high I sat in one for about 3 hours and was at peace it actually calmed me down to where I could think straight!

they really dont have that much of an effect on me. they bug me in theory, but both times i have been in one i have not been effected in any way.

cemeteries are a place of great peace and resting. That is a place where i can go and work stuff out and you know nobody is going to bother you if your sitting in the middle of a cemetery.

I like the feelings of graveyards, though I find myself unable to spend much time there. Because my imagination starts to get away from me, and I begin to wonder how many of those graves are under false pretenses. Probably it wasn't a good idea to read the chapter of Dracula about the suicide's grave while actually in a graveyard. It rather ruins the whole enchantment of the place.

Graveyards are great places. There is so much history in them. So many people who lived before you. They are peaceful. I find that when I am upset, if I go to the nearest graveyard and walk around and look at the headstones and read the names, that I start relaxing. By the time I leave, I am over whatever it was that I was upset about. They have this mysterious air to them. I just love them.

I find them very beautiful. They are also a great place to clear your mind, seeing as how most of the time there is no one else there..so they are a place of peace.

I have seen but one graveyard & I remeber it was a nice felling I had everytime I passed in front of it. I may not know how to respond rather correctly to this thread right now but what I said before is what I used to feel weh I walked by it.

i like graveyards but i always feel alittle uneasy in them. if a friend was going to a graveyard just to hang out i'd go.

Graveyards are cool....sometimes there are some that give that forboding feeling...but others...well most are quite adn peacefull.

I find them fascinating.

Different feelings if you're at an old one (1800 to early 1900 graves) opposed to ones that are after 1900 to present. At least for me the feeling is a bit more different.

I like the old graveyards. The ones with the momuments and large stones adn all. The newer ones are just lawns with little plaques.

I really don't care for graveyards. There's nothing wrong with them, conceptually; but, I think I'm too sensitive. I always feel like I'm being "watched" and I don't really like that feeling.

I love walking in graveyards. I feel it's a great place to think because you are around alot of people...but they were all layed to rest for good...so you're not alone...but you've got your silence.
And looking at tombstones are amazing...it's even better being in a cemetary when you're wiccan...so much movement.

I love graveyards. In middle school, on the way home, I would stop and take walks. I would get bored at home, and go there. It's a good place to clear my mind.

well i have always like to walk in graveyards. just something i have done since i was young. i like to go to them and do rubbings of the older grave stones.

I don't really have a fascination with graveyards as much as others think I should. I prefer the olders ones... I found a random one last month. It was pretty cool. graveyards offer me a place to go where actually nobody who think to look for me, mainly though i go there to hang out with my friends or just clear my mind. its very quiet and peaceful. I can also go visit my deceased family members.

i like visiting people..... and wanting to see shit.... havent yety but i do get wierd as fuck feeling when i go there....like somethings watching me.....its creepy

Exactly, thats what you do when you go to graveyards, pay your respects and talk to your loved ones. I dont see any other reason for going then.

yea...getting the rubbings of the old headstons is an awsome thing to do...but hard if the writting is almost gone...but again fun.

I feel like i'm at home thier. It's the only place i feel i fit in and feel like no one will judge me. (thier dead they don't care as long as you respect them and show them that they mean somthing they let you stay)

I haven't tried getting rubbings from headstones. My ex used to do it all the time.. It doesn't have the same feeling to me when I look at rubbings... The whole piece is what I love. I went to one here that headstones hundreds of years old... Mostly children. That disturbs me the most. It breaks my heart to see graves of children.

I used to enjoy going to the National Cemetery in Beaufort, S.C. where I grew up to read the old (1700/1800) headstones. The idea of just hanging out for the hell of it is disrespectful in my opinion.

it is very sad to see alot of children in the graveyards...they didnt get the chance to enjoy life or know what it is is trully like to live.

Graveyards, to me, are places filled with a great deal of love. Look carefully next time you visit one, at the care that is often taken in remembering the people burried there. The crypts and tombs, the beautiful headstones. the flowers and trinkets that are left by those who have outlived those who've gone to ground. That is how I feel about graveyards.

There is also an energy that can be found in graveyards. Spend time just sitting one day and you may just experience what I'm talking about. Remember however not to deal in spells there, unless you know what you're doing. Most often you may find that the something you call upon is not what you intended to.

I love the energy there but I by nature avoid them during the day cuz I'm night blind and I never walk over graves or have sex on them to me tis disrespectful of the dead

My backyard is adjacent to a graveyard. It's very peaceful. I love walking through it and reading the headstones. You can almost feel the sorrow on some of them. They really don't carry a sexual thing for me, more a beauty thing.

actually I live in missouri. & i just got back from a grave yard, I live in St. Charles & we have tons of graveyards out here, when it snows like it has for the past couple of days & will tonight, it is great to go out to them, although i have never had sex in them... i do not know if i could.

But that is my thought on it.

I haven't hung out in a boneyard in years, however, there never was a more peaceful place to be day or night....The fact that most of the residents are dead makes no difference. In fact...I may have to go visit one tonight....just to remember.

i have never spent time in a graveyard.... i do not know anyone that would accompany me to one...... plus i have a great respect for the dead and unless i was there just to observe and the like then i would feel guilty..... like if i went with my m8s then they would piss around and i could not allow that to happen where the dead rest....... id like to look at the graves and wonder about the people...... but thats just wat i think

I like graveyards to a point...Normally I go there to speak with the "body" of my dead husband I speak with his spirit quite often and therefore don't need to speak with his "body" but I feel that it is the respectful thing to do every now and then I will not be spending eterenity in the grave though becausse when I do die I will be creamated and spread into the ocean so that the fish can consume my ashes and I can start living again in something else..hehehe

i enjoy going 2 grave yards and reading how the ppl died....i luv old old grave yards...like the forgotten kinda ones..and i luv 2 draw the graves...or just walk around....but reading them is pretty fun ..i remember me and my sister were in PA..and we were wandering around the town..we took a back pass..and we found this really over grown grave yard it was wonderful...there were like those casket things above ground it was awesome..well anyway we walked around and read how the ppl had died..and when...the one i remember most was a boy he was 16 and he was on the river during winter and it iced ..and him and his friends went out..well the ice wasnt thick enough i geuss and he fell through and drowned....with 2 of his buds...it was really really interesting...

Although I don't take favor to graveyards... I think it's one of the safest places to be... I mean, everyone who's there is dead...

graveyards dont scare me i think they are peacful and most are pretty ..... i like to go to them at night and take pics to see if u can get any orbes and such in the pics the one night son and i went we got lots of orbes and it was a beautiful clear night ....... there are a few more of thes pics in my portfolio if anyone would care to see them .... plus i know alot of people who like to do rubbings and such and some of the rubbings i have seen are beautiful.....

I'm very comfortable in graveyards. It's one of the few places that I can go and feel peaceful. Ever since I was little I have loved doing rubbings on headstones. Most of my family are from really small towns and one of the benefits of visiting them is always skipping off for an afternoon walk to the local cemetary. I usually make a point to clear off overgrowth on any older graves that I see that arn't being taken care of anymore. Picnics in graveyards ROCK!

About the small town visiting that I forgot to add is that the graveyards in small towns are usually very old.. Lots of great history in them..

Graveyards are the scariest and creapiest at night but the only thing that gives me chills when I'm in 1 is that i've been around for 3 grandparents to get barried and the fact that it's got so many corpses

They can be a wonderful olace to go and meditate. they are peaceful places often unspoiled, given most people do not pay casual visits to them without reason. as a little girl I have visited them especially the very and historical ones, both my parents enjoyed this and would take my sister and I to them.

I love going to graveyards and walking through the ones that are small and unvisited. I usually find the prettiest adn most interesting graves there. I love taking pics of the headstones. Its very refreshing for me and I seem to get my mind clear there...

i find them peaceful. dead people cant physically hurt you, they cant berate you,they cant even look at you, so there is nothign about them that warrents dislike in my opinion. it is not my habit to go to graveyards, but i havent been to one i like in a while. the best ones are in germany. i remember they were like forests instead of the american parking lot set with tombstones. i love rally old ones. i dont really feel weird around them, but my feet start to tingle sometimes....i just like them

I love the graveyards around here although i don't prefer to go there alone. I am empathic and get weird feelings and sometimes it can be overwhelming so i prefer to take a friend with me.

Graveyards are awesome and the older the better. As for being scary I think only those that are in the middle of no where are scary. the ones in the city's are ok but not scary. I enjoy taking photos in color and in black or white.

Just recently I found myself in a graveyard for the first time.

It makes me stoic.
"I'm standing over somebody's dead body" does something to one's state of mind.
I want to pay them every respect. I want to spend time contributing to the peaceful energy.

I don't stay in cemetaries long. I enjoy that stoic feeling too much. :)

During my stay in Washington state I had the privledge of locking up a cemetary in Portland Oregon. Was the only one not freaked out by it. It sat on a hill overlooking the city. The childrens graves were sad. People put stuffed animals and other trinkets ot by thier graves. The wind would blown these stuffed creatures everywhere... I put them by a the nearest grave when possible. I spent more time kicking people out trying to make out or caught dead in the act. Best comment "We bury people here not make them here."

of course if u go into a graveyard you feel weird because you THINK that( from seeing all of the movies) a dead man is going to reach out of the ground and grab you but i personally do still get weirded out in them but the only time
I go to one is when im putting flowers on my Grandfathers grave and I would never walk over top of a grave because that is how i was taught and to me it is disrespectful and if u go there to walk over top of them on purpose then all I have to say is GET A LIFE!!!! but oh well things happen in life that you cant control so do what u want, when you want, and where you want!!

I like the history and aesthetic points of graveyards. They tend to be interesting. I like the famous NO graveyards. And I've visited some really nice ones in Europe. I went to see Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison. :)

Graveyards should be looked at as one of the only sacred places. Nothing pisses me off more than to see a beautiful headstone brokrn by some ignorant person.

I love Graveyards and it,s my home I can hear people talking at night i sit there and listen to them all talk .. some don,t think or know they are died you can see white things walking around in there and i love it at Halloween you can see so many died people that,s when we all rise and hunt for victims and some walking food....I love graveyards for ever

We have a HUGE one right by my house, and I like to wander, find a large marker or crypt and then read about who was in there, go home and research that person...you can find out a lot about people that way, and its interesting to know who is interred, who lived and who died right in your own backyard sometimes....gives a new feeling of connection with that energy around you...eh....plus my dogs like it there, there are squirrels

When I was growing up we used to live by one. It was one of the nicer place to take walks.

in december of 1999 i was on vacation with my family in san luis potosi, mexico.
i ran into some old friends form joliet, IL. mainly goths, a few vamps, and like 3 punks. anyways, one of my vamp buddies--Oscar and i walked to the local graveyard just outside the town we were staying in. it was the day before christmas eve and very cold and cloudy.
i had my camera with me. we walked around and saw headstones from the 1800's and recent ones as well. i tried to take some photos of some of the more run-down grave sites but the camera wouldn't take the photo.
oscar told me i had to ask "permission" to do it. i thought it was rather odd but i kneeled down and asked (in spanish of course) if i could "take their picture" . IT FUCKING WORKED! i tried a few times without asking and nothing would come up but when i did ask it would work! creepy. but i got some great pics from it.

I love going to graveyards that's the only place I am comfortable at, I don't know why. I hate being at home or anywhere else but the cemetary makes me feel at home O.o

Interestingly though I once got a neat photograph with an orb in it from a very old graveyard here in Ireland :)
