A major operational change has been enacted at Vampire Rave: Vampire Rave Societies.
This change has nothing to do with the recent plethora of threads involving Vampire Houses. All of this has been in the works for the past 6 months.
Everything you need to know about Vampire Rave Societies is laid out under the new Societies menu under the Main Menu.
In this thread the Administrators will answer your questions about the new system. Posts that are not questions will be deleted. Questions that are answered in the Societies FAQ will be deleted.
700 Vampire Rave members have already been inducted into Houses (100 per House). To see if you are in a House, check your Profile page.
Because each house Master chose each individual on what we have determined to be fitting in each of our houses!!!!!
ok so it has nothing to do with status or the age of the user?
some of it does ..... but it's not the total reason!!!
How were the members chose...each take a turn or what? I am very interested in this i was quite surprised to see the change when i logged on.
Is everyone going to be in one of these houses or covens. This may just be my opinion but i never chose a clan, house or coven for a reason and do not want to be in a house or coven and not to mention the rule about not siring another,i actually have(pandorazpixie) so how does that work for me?Yes i'm mad about not even getting a notice in my e-mail..i don't have the ability to come check the forum all the time and this does not set right with me at all.
started off 2 at a time till we reached a certian number and as more were taken the disparity between was enlarged
as to the why weren't I inducted, this was all done rather quickly we had a limited number we could get, so many members were most likely looked over
I have been working on the Society System for a very long time. During design I was fully aware that some members would *not* like the changes.
There's some things you need to keep in mind... Being inducted into a House or Coven against your will in no way changes how you interact with Vampire Rave. You have not lost any privileges that you had before tonight.
Furthermore, if you don't like the Society System you don't have to participate in it.
Finally, the new Society System was designed to parallel vampire culture. There is a hierarchy, and that hierarchy now exists at Vampire Rave. It is driven by the Status System.
Ok its slowly becoming clear to me, but why are some houses on the top of others?
If you mean the Houses page, it is sorted in order of House Score (as is the Standings page).
alot of new changes.... i can tell it did take some time to work all that in for here.
been working on things for myself lately...
and starting to see the littleest things, can be just a trip.... ^_^ but they are nice.
i have gone through the rule and all...i find the system very intriguing. Good work. only more reason for me to be more active than i already am.
I would like to know of the criteria people were chosen based on. What things stood out about each individual to get the masters to choose us....
I have read all the different information on the new houses and I still have a question I can not find the answer to. Do you expect anything specific out of house members other than good conduct?
TangibleNightmare,
The answer would vary greatly based on which House you were inducted into. You're in Umbrae Octo. Jason explains his methods very well in the Umbrae Octo House Forum.
mmmix2,
The answer will vary greatly based on the House you are in. This is something to ask of your Master in your House Forum.
Okay, I have a question about the game PegBoard. I am curious how to play it? I noticed if we win we get 3 favors!!
is there going to be any kind of description for each house/coven forthcoming? im still a bit in the dark about what the idea behind each house/coven is exactly. there doesnt appear to be much in the way of info beyond copious forum scrolling
temptation101,
Part of winning at it is figuring it out.
Incarnadine,
Each House has information posted on their main page. Click Houses, then click on a House.
im with holding judgement currently. i found it funny that tinius was the more or less "enforecer" for his house. as his former room mate, "interesting" wouldn't quite cover it. i geuss i look forward to joining a house if for no other reason then to participate in the games.
I think what some people seem confused about is what is required of them by being in a house (I have looked over everything and do not see requirements in a few of them) and why some people we're chosen over others. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see how this thing pans out eh? Personally I rather like the idea, but I'm unsure about having "active duties" or having to answer to someone on Vampire Rave.
I am quite satisfied to be in the house that selected and inducted me, and was flattered when the house master explained why I was chosen. I look forward to setting high standards in hopes of winning favors and marks to make level advancement easier. As with any good organization, club, group, etc. I have found that the more actively I participate, the better the rewards and priveliges I receive. Kudos for bringing the house system here.
So is the house assignment a trickled down thing? What I mean is, those of us who were not assigned, will it be done later, or do we have to ask to join one?
I'm just wondering how this fits with many prior statements that this isn't a vampire roleplaying site....but an informational database....
actually I am voicing what others have been asking me about this...
not sure why I am asked, not being an acolyte, procurator, or dominar? but I was aked this...so I ask it in return
700 members were inducted to start things off. The Master Vampires will continue to induct members as they see fit.
It is expected that Sire's will start forming Covens. These Sire's will start inducting members.
Of the negativity I have encountered, it parallels the reaction to when Premium Membership's first came out. Some non-Premium Member's were pissed. But the fact of the matter was, the update in no way affected non-Premium Members. ADDITIONAL features were given to new Premium Members, but nothing was lost or 'taken away' from anyone.
The same is the case with the new Society structure. Yes, some members were forcibly inducted into a House. But this induction has in no way affected their membership. NOTHING was lost. A House Master cannot force you to participate in the House. If you do not like the idea you can simply ignore the House system of VR and it will in no way affect you.
Daermon, this expansion is a lateral expansion... It is not one of replacement. This does not affect the Vampire Database.
I could be wrong, but the way I'm seeing all of the Society changes is something similar to the different houses at Hogwarts.. Yes...from the Harry Potter series.
I like it. It looks to have a lot of potential. When you have a growing society, it is almost imminent that it will begin to create some sort of segregation. Outside of this site, high school cliques for some, socio-economic classes for others. When Cancer created this site he began a community, and that community is still growing. This just makes me even more curious as to how this site and community will develop over the next year, 5 years, etc.
ok, i'm confused. How do u know by looking at your profile that u have been put in to a house? And am I in one? and if not will I be and how do u get picked?
What is the difference between a society and a coven? How come there are no covens?
i think its a great addition, great work cancer, looks like a lot of work has gone into this, my thanks to all the admins on this too.
dont take on to much work people, again great work on the additions
Just read the FAQ, which still doesn`t exlpain the difference between a society and a coven. A master can give more marks than a sire? That`s not fair for those who are in a coven is it?
I`m a shade, how come I wasn`t chosen? Does that mean I can choose which society I get in? Please help.
The Societies are broken into two categories: Houses and Covens.
Houses are run by the Master Vampires, the seven Administrators here at VR.
Covens will be run by Sires, those members who have achieved the ultimate level of access here at VR.
There are no Covens yet because no Sires have formed them. There is, as us Masters can attest, more than just picking a name and forming a Coven. There's a crest, other layout design, and then they have to decide who to choose.
You'll know if you have been chosen by looking at your Profile. It will tell you your affiliation, and also present a small icon for the house. You'll see that same icon under usernames here in the forum, too.
Mine is that cute little owl. :D
A "coven" is created by "sires" am I correct? And these are sub divisions of the house? or am I missing something?
Masters cannot give more marks than Sires. Masters can only give Marks to members of their House. Sires can only give Marks to members of their Coven.
However, a Master's Marks does give greater weight of status bonus than a Sire's Mark. The Prince can also give a Mark, and his conveys the most status.
If you are not yet a member of a Household, first remember we chose 700 out of nearly 2000. I believe if we could have chosen more at the time we would have.
Now Sires are in the mix and will be choosing their members. Plus us Masters can begin choosing more members again.
But yes, you may Petition for inclusion into any House if you are not in one yet.
Thank you for the news. I look forward to what you come up with next.
Thanks for all the info. I think I understand things better now :)
Emmy has a good point.. why weren't people asked instead of just inducted? I was really suprised to come online tonight and find i had been inducted.. I am honored to have been inducted.. but just curious why people were chosen not asked.
I really would have thought someone with both the Dominar and Procurator titles would be above such pettiness. It sounds like you're mostly complaining because you weren't inducted into a House. It was the choice of the Master Vampires who they inducted, and I believe Cancer even mentioned in the FAQ, it's not always going to be fair.
As far as the people that don't want to participate, Cancer addressed that quite clearly. Ignore it. If you don't want to be a part of it, you don't have to participate. The only difference to someone who decided to do so that had been inducted would be that they get an extra little picture by their name on the site, listed in a few extra places, and would recieve House messages.
Sires have joined houses during the initial drafting. It doesn't make you ineligible. As to the rest, I've said my bit and don't plan on dragging it out in here.
Now Emaerald. No stomping your feet in the corners. I agree wholeheartedly with you, as with the vampires in our society, the people here should be given a choice in which house they belong to, or even if they belong.
Hey "Emmy" I don't know you too well, but if your a sire I would love to be in your coven......Lmao...if you start one!!!! hehehehehe....
I couldn't post earlier because I just came back from a reception, I would have put my points of view earlier but the site was on backup thus running slow.
Toilet I'm surprised you reacted like that, you rushed in judging without checking out the facts first off, the sire at that point in time when the houses started were not inducted in any house, since then the newly made sires happened to be a house which in a way gives them a choice whther to stay or not.
I'd like everyone to understand that Emaerald points are understood as constructive critism & I certainly admire her for taking such a stand which in the hindside I do agree with. Of course such implimentation of this nice system is open to critism as any other major change so I expect everyone to consider the facts well before making their arguments.
I'm still figuring out what happened. I just log out for awhile and now, I'm marked and a member or a house? Alright, I hope this is going to turn out very good.
It seems intersting and I do appericate the massive undertaking and skill it took to come up with the new system so hats off to you.
Yea.. Sabastion I hear what you saying. I dont believe it is impossible to roll out, it will just take a while to sooth its implementation
People fear change, and any change in a society is met with opposition. Our Prince has my complete confidance that he has thought this through very carefully, and would not make any major changes to his kingdom without realizing the full ramifications of these decisions. It's not like this was thrown together over a few beers on a Friday night. Again, I think this simply adds another dimension to the VR experiance and another reason to quit my day job and live here.
Living here sounds great. But where is here? Do we have any locals for the Houses?
I'm not sure if this question has been asked, i can not see it anywhere in the posts if it is sorry i must have missed it.
But, what i am wondering is; What if you want to be in a house but have not been selected, is that it or have you got a chance of getting into a house? because what that also maybe percieved as is favouritism between admins (I am not suggesting this has happened) it just doesnt seem like a fair selection technique.
what about the people who arnt in a house in the first place and who want to be?
i dont fully understand this house thing but i was just wondering why we should have to be as i am like a wolf and i like to be on my own but evey wolf needs a pack so im for it in a way but i think its great the amount of effort and time you have put into this
Well, um yes. Would you want to be inducted by someone who hates you?
bows smiles bless'ns
Prince
I thank thee for this new avenue for me to better serve the VR gathering
" i have wisper'd to the elements, i have blown a message though the blue flame,
to tell all the blackness to gather thier fources, to ward of those that wish you harm or steel from you gain"
bows smiles turns'n'leaves
Never before in my life has the term Rush to Judgment been so driven home.
People logged on last night, saw they were in a House, didn't bother to read any of the new information I posted, and just got pissed. I do not expect the majority of you to understand the complexities of what I have done.
If you fail to understand the new system after thoroughly reading the information that has been posted in the Societies FAQ, Marks page, Standings page, Standing Explained page, each House main page, each House Forum, and this thread, the failing is mine. Please let me know via message so that I may improve upon the FAQ.
The only person that I can say with certainty that 'gets it' is ElderDaniel. He recognizes the system as a whole and its implications as a whole.
The rest of the Admins are doing their best.. Although they have a big head start over the rest of you, there is a lot to digest. They aren't just in a House, they have to run it.
Now, as to forcible inductions. This I cannot explain to you. You either get it or you don't. I can try to help you understand it, but I cannot guarantee that you will understand it. Here are some points to consider:
I was as surprised as anyone this morning to see the change. I guess we all will have to wait and see how things go.
STABB666: I have a concern. I've already seen a shift in rating patterns due to the inclusion of ratings as part of the house rating. wont this undermine the rating system?
This too was thought out ahead of time. The House structure will actually *correct* the rating problems that currently exist at Vampire Rave.
How many profiles do you view where the rating average is 4-7? Actually when was the last time you viewed one with an average rating of 5?
There are A LOT of bad Profiles on VR... Yet the 'low' score seems to be in the 8 range.. Sometimes 7.
With 33% of House Score based on Profile/Portfolio ratings, members will be far less eager to dish out 10's like they're Halloween candy. The ratings will correct themselves to a degree and the rating average will be more representative of the profile's worth.
Will some House members run around just giving everyone else 1's? Maybe. But when it's discovered by their Master they will be punished.
The result will be far more 4's to 7's being given out, which is a GOOD thing.
I just wanted to say thank you for the time and effort put into making the change and I hope people with at least take the time to understand and explore it before passing judgement on it.
Thanks for the clarification.
So that means that profile bombing by rival house members with be frowned upon and actively discouraged by the masters... one hopes. lol
Cancer, I have been a bit leery of this house thing, but what you have said DEFINITELY intrigues me...
When I question whats going on. I must remember, you have created a wonderful site. I SERIOUSLY doubt you would do any thing contrary to its health.
So in you, my Prince, I do trust....
as do I the master of my house, ElderDaniel...
(bows)
to the Lords of VR I bow...
this is kinda scary, i would not like to be forced into a house. it makes me not want to go to level five.
Jason Say: Welcome to Domus Ex Umbrae Octo. I hope that membership in this house will assuage your fears of the Society sytem.
think of it as an honor, the master of that House found something special in you...
they think your inductance into their house will enrich that house...
Like it was said before ignore it.
Or maybe get to know more about theh ouse and members maybe you start seeing things from a different perspective.
I wasn't happy at first but now it's interesting me:)
ooookkkk i get it all now..see people, reading EVERYTHING before you freak out definately helps the situation...to Prince, thank you ^_^ I'm eager to see where this leads

I am happy to know and say that my rating was great before this new changed occured. There is far more text than pictures there so I would hope this was based on content. I believe, and would surely hope that all members will rate a page based on individuality and effort. Clan rivalry exisits in Vampiric Societies- but so does admiration~ read the books, watch the shows, the Ventrue can be best friends with the Nosferatu. You will have your family so to speak, but this doesn't mean you can not have great relationships outside of this. I am content where I am and do not wish to move, but it will not keep me away from Jamie's page- because I love it :) And it will not end my regard for all the other people I have built bonds with.
I will want to support my House, not only will I want the members to have a good rating- but if there is reason for them not to have the rating I want them to have- I can tactfully, diplomatically help them the create a profile that is worthy of the House. I don't want to have a great rating as a whole 'just because'- I want my House to exude greatness :) Luckily it is my belief that my Master has already chosen diamonds. And luckily so there were so many diamonds to choose from, I can see them shining from the horizon of each House.
As for forceable inductions, I consider this an honor- to be chosen. If you have not been chosen, realize first it is not easy to go through thousands of profiles. In the time alotted only so much could be accomplished.
Emmy, you are the brightest shining diamond~ what you do from here as you adjust to the new changes I will look forward to see :)
I have taken the time to read all the posts, FAQ, and every link. I don't know everything- but I believe it can only get better, and I am excited to be a part of this online community.
People, please work with us, not against us.
These new changes are as new to you as they are to us. Lets work together to make this a merry and positive change.
if you are not happy with your house, let your master know. Talk to them and voice your comments and concerns. If you have not yet been inducted, please be patient. We are not trying to offend anyone. Like Elder Daniel said, we had to induct just 100 members out of thousands...it is nothing against any of you, many of the members were not inducted because of their lack of level gain or because they were sires. READ THE FAQ.
Be patient overall. Let the changes settle. Arguing and being difficult about things will not make the process any better or pleasant for everyone, it will only make it harder.
If you are nto happy with you house, ask to be removed. If you want to be in another house, ask to be traded. It is just a matter of communication. Do not be offended, its only affecting yourself.
♥ DB
As I have thought since first coming upon this site- the same applies to the new changes- I am eager to see how this VR world will affect everyone on here and me. I look forward to seeing how things will pan out. I have faith that those who truly enjoy being on here, will make it all work.
And to those who complain about being forcibly inducted- as someone who was not inducted, I wonder if you were in my shoes, would you be upset that you weren't?
Images in Words: I am not against the changes, in fact I never said I was. I just voice the opinion of many who dont want induction, or to be traded for the muse of a Master or his House like an object you would buy in a shop. But rather free choice if they want to be in a House or not. I still believe there should be an opt out button of a House if you dont want to be there and not having to wait until you get to Sire level to do so.
I'm through with messaging on the forum about this..everyone knows my stance now. If you have any responses to my outspokeness on this subject please do so in pm and if you want public display of your reply I'll give you that in my journal.
I was lucky to be chosen. And I'm glad the one that chose me Believes as I.
Some will be happy, Some wont. Not everyone conforms well.
There is just on choice, and that is to deal with it.
There will never be an option for induction approval or voluntarily leaving a House/Coven (with the exception of Sire's). I'd kill the system before I allowed that.
In that type of system cliques would further evolve and that is not beneficial to the site. Houses and Covens would be a joke and hold no meaning.
Maybe some of you don't realize you're on a vampire site. Choice and freedom are not causes that a vampire champions.
I will say, that some of your Masters are being far more forgiving than I would be. They are busting their asses to reshuffle their Houses because a few people are butt hurt.
If someone in my House was making a stink I'd blind them and block them. That would be the end of it it.
Even though I've read everything I can find on this new idea I'm still confused by the marks... I'm not sure what they are really, and how one would earn them....
however, I am glad that I was one of the first 700 choosen and I love my house... can't wait to find a way to stick out among the other hundred people... :-)
As for the houses and vampire's not having a choice in the begining, that's actually a very good observation that should have been pointed out a long time ago. Vampire's aren't asked, "hey, wanna be my slave?" by an older, stronger vampire....
I bow to those above me, and warn them, I'm on my way up...
but can someone please explain the marks a little more... ? is it like a bite mark that shows power.. or a score or something?
Ok, a little about Marks...
I have one.
Each Master of a House has one (each of the 7 Master Vampires)
If a Sire has a Coven, that Sire has a Mark.
If a member is marked, that member receives the Status bonus associated with the mark. Possible bonuses are 2%, 5%, 10%, 12%, and 15%. I am the only one that can mark whoever I choose. Others can only mark members of their own House or Coven.
It is entirely up to the owner of the Mark how he/she will issue their Mark. I have my own reasons for marking who I have, as do each of the Master Vampires.
alright, so the marks aren't for specific reasons... or I should say the specific reasons are known to the Master, the Prince, and if someone feels like letting them know, the markee....
The other thing I wanted to know is can we earn favor more than once? For instance I beat the peg game.. .can I beat it again for more favor?
ok, tried it and found that no, you can't get more favor for it...
so here's my next question.. for things like the peg board, where you can write down the solutions... am I allowed to send the answers to other's in my house?
hehehe, if so we'll be on top for a longer time...
The Peg Game is a unique case. It was set up to kick the section off. It will most likely be removed soon.
You should not present your House mates with winning lines. You can help them however.
I am working on more contests as we speak. Over the next several months I hope to incorporate several dozen.
If people stop messaging me I might even get a new one posted tonight.
*blushes and moves off to pretend she never sent a single message... *
Cancer,
I think the section is a great idea, while i was looked over ( & i do not mind as I am reletively new here) It brings a bit of society that i experiance offline to the online home of VR. I think it will definitly help some people pass the time on here quite easily so i do not see what they are complaining about. Cudo's.
Thanks for spending your time on us.
What happens if your traded? Do you then lose the mark of your Master? I know that if you leave to make your own coven you lose it, and possibly your status as well....
Also I recall seeing somewhere you wrote about people not being able to rate all tens, or risk damaging the status or something? I didn't get to read it when my computer died, and now I can't find it again... it's not in FAQ I don't think... or I couldn't find it..
If you're traded or kicked from your house, I'm pretty sure you lose the mark.
I would like to be chosen for a house or coven But am not sure which I would be suitable for...or if any are interested in the likes of me...any suggestions?

I don't think we are mimicing the human Vampiric lifestyle- but the one we know in Vampire fiction. The Vampires we grew up with in literature~ they never ask, they just *do*.
I could be wrong~ but this is what I assume.
Depends on what books you read. I have a laundry list of titles where people DO have a choice.
I know of a few people who have actually decided to leave the site for good over this....I feel they are over reacting.....
not because I agree or disagree.....i am witholding judgement for the time....
but because they are not giving time for the bugs to work out and see how things slide into place....
I encourage people to look at both the pro's and the cons of this.....it does have it's flaws....but it also has some great possibility.....and this is from one who is rabidly against the concept of houses in vamp society, meaning me....I mean in actual society....not just this site....
I have seen many try this and it become almost gang like and insular to the point of stupidity....but this is NOT the same thing....this being online has the checks and balances that the real world has not got....I think this could work and be a very positive think....once the bugs are smoothed
i'm quite happy with the house I was chosen for
I feel the site began to be a bit stagnant and with the inception of houses now has brought about a new revival of it. Competition and comradely is a great way to get people involved and motivated to participate.
The Dark Administrator
Seems like a good idea, however, I am, a little lost as to how you might be able to chose a House or Coven that you would like to be in......When you can be brought into one that you might not see eye to eye with......and isnt it demoralising to be traded?
Anyways will have to see...am not even close to being eligible yet...
What people keep ignoring is that fact that if they don't want to participate they don't have to.
Their VR experience should not change one iota, except that they'll get House messages and a nifty graphic under their picture. Big deal.
If they can get over the fact that the little 150x100 graphical tag is under their name, and that they had no choice in it being there, the site hasn't changed for them.
It's a website, people. It's not like you woke up this morning with a real tattoo on your neck.
Jason wrote: What people keep ignoring is that fact that if they don't want to participate they don't have to.
--------------------------------------
Everyone keeps saying this but you still get inducted into a house or a coven whether you want to participate or not. And so far as I can tell it's popularity that gets you picked or not. I'm here to make a few friends not become the belle of the ball so I am hoping I get passed over. I know it sounds sad....but its how I feel.
And I know that Cancer was merely doing what he and others felt was best for the rave. But as Sphynxcat has already stated, Houses and Coven's within the vampire communtiy are not run this way. We are approached and asked if we want to join. Yes, they are hierarchies and they do operate under the caste system but that where the similarity stops.
OMG, DA, I agree with you... lol
It was tiring going over virtually empty profiles and repeat subjects on the forums. There is only so much that can be done to a profile before it starts to look like an xmas tree that was attacked by a magpie, but, I definetly feel this gives us all cause for some creative thought.
I find this a very new and interesting invest in the site and sets it apart from all other sites.
I think this is a good idea cancer. There is always gonna be people against things but in the end it all does pan out. I think it brings more content to the site and I think it will encourage more participation from people. And as someone stated earlier...all societies are not fair and this balances things out. I am a firm beleive in how balance is needed in this world. I hope this works out for all. I don't see why some people would leave this site over this....as this is a informational site on vampires and having houses is just a bonus but not needed to still be able to be here to learn and grow as time goes on.
is it true that once your in a house u can get traded?
It's not popularity that gets you in a house... I'm not popular and I was brought into one..
As for the whole ignoring the coven or house thing... that is perfectly plausible... Just consider the little bit they added on the profile your home city or such... and ignore the messages and such...
I mean it's not like anything is gone that you used to do? I haven't seen this new system do anything but provide with more things to do for those who wish it...
Given time the system will work itself out so that people who don't want to be part of the Houses or Covens will be blind and those who do want to be in them will be.
That's all there is to it... No one is holding a gun to your head and saying.. :read the messages and the news and the forums....: at least not to mine..
interesting... just found out about it today and found out that im in a house thing. all i have to say is interesting...
Exactly Lilly nothing is forced.
And for those who haven't been chosen don't take it personally.Your chance will come as well,or ask for it.
*_*.. i`ve been away for a whole weekend and was astonished to see all this change in here..which somehow brings me a bit of fear cause i believe that maybe more competence and enviness will arise between members,,hope not..
however i`m confused about the system how does it exactly work??
are there any specific things which we have to deal with??
just wondering but how come you decided to make these "houses"
This thread is getting to be exceptionally long, and it seems to have gotten to the point of mostly just going in circles.
Whether any of us like the Societies or not is really irrevelant. As has been stated many times, we are here at Cancer's discretion. This site belongs to him, and him alone. He clearly stated the forced induction system will NOT be changed. So deal with it. It has also been stated numerous times that other then the pretty little picture and recieving house messages, it doesn't change anything about your experience of the site you don't want it to. Life isn't always fair, deal with it. If you are truly immature enough that you just absolutely cannot deal with having a little picture under your name and recieveing a few extra messages, then by all means leave the site. Once again, as stated many, many times, this site caters to adults. That implies maturity and intelligence. We do not disallow those without these qualities, but we do not cater to them by far.
Any further questions that cannot be answered by this thread or the FAQ's should be directed to the Acolytes. That's the little link in the Main Menu that says "Request Help," for those of you who might not know that already for some reason.
