A lot of thoughts exist with in the realm of immortality, but what is it really and if possible how does one achieve it? is it achievable? any thoughts on this I will be happy to hear it.
I have heard of ghosts being here on this world or at least close to us in someway, in that fact then what you say yes that is one sort of immortality.
But I have also seen documents of sience developing ways to make life longer, here there is a question: If it would be possible to make you immortal, would you do it?
Yeah but longer not immortal.
And there's even that one of freezing the body and keep it for about 100 years?
That would be an adventure I like it.
But then still time will pass and you're going to age.
Yeah but longer not immortal.
And there's even that one of freezing the body and keep it for about 100 years?
That would be an adventure I like it.
But then still time will pass and you're going to age.
And if there was a way to be immortal, really immortal I would accepted.
I must say 2 thinks: you've said someting about ghost. As the happy owner of a haunted house( yes , i'm not joking) i can say you that ghosts are only traped spirits at the edge of this realm and other. Some will finally leave this realm and some will not be able to see the way out. The second think i have to say( based again on my ghost encounters experience) is that iti realy is another immortal realm. At least it's something else , but i cant say if it's dark or light that rules there...
I have yet to see if any true immortality does exist. And so to speak if I was an immortal I would not show it to everyone.
Immortality can never be reached unless you have higher power or are a god.
Immortality as I have mentioned earlier have several meanings, like the way people live in our harts still after they have passed on, but what defies immortality is it something we se as eternal life or the eternal memory of someones life?
Anything can die in time, so Immortality is just an extension of mortality.
Too many different interpretations of the term immortality to come up with one clean-cut answer....
Even Gods are mortal... but I must ask: when you reffer to immortality, which kind it is? Being immortal as a human being (like in Highlander or Hollywood vampires) or in a more abstract way, as a energy being (ghosts, spirits, demons, angels and so on). Until a certain proof, immortality is just another creation of human hope that brought humans courage in the face of death ( living forever as a spirit in the Other World).
I walk in this flesh bag and value it for it is my suit for this journey I decided to take, however I see myself as much more. I know I am much more for when I walk into a room others look and feel my energy way before I approach them. When I leave my energy is felt, and when remember I remember many many visions some not of this journey alone, but of others. I consider my light electrical magnetical blissful force to be immortal...lingering and making its voice heard forever and beyond.
But than again I am also called many times over a "loon" so don't take anything I say seriously.
Well, when you consider that this is but one reality, and that we exist on more than one plane, we are all immortal. Our physical bodies may wither and die, but our souls, astral bodies, whatever you may call them, will still remain.
Actualy we are geneticly made to be immortal in a way, but our system sudenly starts to shutdown and that when we atart to wrinkle and look old, the scientist are still puzzle about it, because they know that we are capable of acheving immortality, as for Vampire immortality this probably more sprend by books and movies, since there is always soemthing that can kill them so they are not immortal...sad but true
sticking with Sekment on this one the question brings about too many answers due to it's vagueness.....Can we get the definition of immortal or immortality that you follow?
I'm seriously trusting in Science as for that. I do believe it's possible, of course I'm refering to human body immortality.
i would welcome to be around for eternity that would be cool
I'm sorry but in my oppinion immortality is just a myth, fantasy. If it were real do you honestly want to live for hundreds of years? You would be all alone unless for some reason all your friends and family were immoral aswell.
I'm not sure if this has anything with what you would like to have answered, but since sience is mentioned. I would like to say that it is the air that we breath in, or more precise Oxygen, that makes us all old and wrinkled..so if you would like to be an immortal. then stop breathing!
very funny thou it makes me old I need it to live so it is a big dilema hehe.
my faith believes in immortality, but not one of the body but of the soul.
the human body isnt able to last forever and ever-people grow old and they die...a new life replaces an old one.
yet our souls go on to our next life..so thus immortality is achieved
Yea immortality is well the extension of mortality. The thing is that everything dies but the soul survives and well becomes something else.....or is stored in something else. Thus as many of you all said immortality is acheived
Personally I think immortality could never be reached even as a god... Everything has it's end in time either to be killed or to die naturally..... There was something mentioned about ghosts and I would like to mention about something my mom told me as a child.... During a certain period of time (From all St.'s Day till I think it is sometime in late summer if anyone can clear it up please do) were the souls of those who have passed away are allowed to walk the earth as to check on those they left behinde and all that fun stuff..... But back onto the topic of imortality, everything has to end..... There is always something that can distroy something else..... There is no such thing as a being so perfect that they can beat death..... Sorry if I seemed rude or offended someone....
~Shadowmemory~
Not sure that there is one. The Gods and Godess have there place, but what if we were all able to have it to. What would make the Gods and Godess different from us.
an immortality of the flesh where one does not age nor die would be something as for being alone, we are all really alone anyway and thew opportunity to watch history and learn would be to much to turn down, of course if theres ever such an offer made theres gonna be a damn horrifying catch!
to watch history, would be worth the loneliness.
Question: how would you be immortal?
It is an philosofical question so answer in a philosofy way (fanstasy).
Oh that clears things up :). If anything it would be granted by any god but maybe with a reprocution involved with it. One type of reprocution might be that you must serve that one god and only that god till he hence say forth. Also it might be possible if you did so much that wasn't seen good in a god's eyes that they will punish you by giving you imortality.
if you ask me immortality does not exist. i dont think any being could live forever! but i think that people can be immortal in spirit. for example peopple like hitler and so on. hes been dead for a while but his spirit is still living on and will do for a long time. i you know what i mean.
Immortality exists in the hearts and minds of poeple. Never physically.
immortality is in the harts of the ppl that loved you your body may die but your soul lives forever or at least thats what i think
Immortality is the works done in your own lifetime, passed down through the centuries. Take Vlad Dracula for example. His name is known even today, centuries later. It's as if he lived today, the way people honor him in Romania with there yearly festivals. The man is legend, and because of the things done in life he is remembered.
Thats how one achieves immortality, or so I think.
There are too many variables for this question to ever be fully answered. Though I did enjoy reading the responses.
I think one can be immortal, but not in a physical sense. Example, Freud died years ago, but yet his theories are still used in psychological practice. Same thing with Van Goh. And on a lesser sense, if you procreate you become immortal because a piece of you is carried through to the next generation.
Another theory I have come across, is that only our soul can be immortal. Another form of re-incarnation.
c'mon now, you cannot be immortal.....but keep searching for that fountain of youth ;)...but no, an immature concept, we are born and we grow old and we die. This is the cycle of life...I don't care who you are you are no different in that sense.
I dont think people in the here and now can achieve immortality....dont know why just dopnt think its possible.
I thank all for their posts all of you have proven to me that there are intelligent people on earth.
You would not belive the ignorent I have mett in my life to prove the opposite.
i do belive that there is a realm of immortality, but i dont think that it can be reached by anyone. i do belive that i CAN be reached, but only by those that have the strength.
i think if there is such thing as immorality, it would be cool to lie in wait for others to never die and to feed off each other.
immortal vampires rule!
I know what you mean Core, I have seen that kind of ignorance out there as well. It's almost sad how absurde people can be.
I often think those of us who have children gain an aspect of immortality through that alone. Im the child of a child of a child...Therefore the head of my family tree is in some way still immortal via DNA...bit of a twisted leap i know but still...
Immortality is irreachable, it is an unnatainable goal and one could die trying to achieve it, ending their mortal life.
i dont believe that immortality in fact exsists. but if it does i can see it more as a punnishment or a curse than a special power or ability. to see the ones around you grow old and die and being left alone for eternity, i believe i would loose my sanity.
i believe it does exsist but you can die if your immortal like if drinking blood is what keeps you alive a nd you stop drinkin blod then well you just wasted away one of the greatest gifts you could ever have immortality
The way i see immortality is all that lives on is your essence nothing of who you were who i am by name dies but my essence goes to the spiritual planes to wait to come back i know i have been around for a long time but not in the same body in many different ones.
I think immortally is bassed on how we live our life. You can sit around and waste it or you can kick it in the ass and make the most of it while you can. As for the rhelm of immortality I think that anything is possible and there are alot of elements in this life we don't know, so live life likes it's gone tommorrow. If immortality bites you neck, so to speak, you just got the bonus round so enjoy!
immortality is only achievable in the highest standerds of strongest souls captivated in the realm for ever to fight for us and hummaine kind-----thats my opinion
Immortality CAN be achieved. Reproduce for the right reasons. The children you bare and raise with care will grow up and one day have children of their own. Their children's children will reproduce. The cycle is never ending and you will have your immortality past your days on this Earth.
What else could one ask for? Just make sure it is with someone you love, afterall, wouldn't you want to make a good name for your bloodline?
yes it is achievable as long as i am with the one i love the most and for eternity
Concerning immortality, my thoughts on it are that the only way to achieve it is to be reborn over and over again...
I agree with samofthevamps....
but theorize this....people say immortality is only for gods and godesses...a higher life form (yes aliens) could appear to be gods or godesses what about the technology of time travel it could make one seem immortal to be in different times
I do not believe physical immortality is possible, but I do believe our consciousness is, in its ow way, immortal. Everything is made of energy. At its deepest material level, there is only energy and empty space. Energy cannot be manufactured or destroyed...when our physical bodies die, that energy that is our essence must go...somewhere...
you have to think about it though ... do you really WANT to live forever thats the big question cause eventually everyone you know and love will die aand leave you to walk the earth and mourn for all eternity ...... but other than that id love to live forever
Nothing is immortal.
Nothing is forever.
In a human mortal life living thousands of years would thought to be immortal. Things only can exist for so long, but based on from a human perspective on how short life is, things can seem immortal.
If I was able to live as long as I want given hundreds, thousands or millions of years I would take it.
~Lost One
I believe that immortality can be achieved, I'm not sure how, but I do know that those who wish to achieve, are born again and again if they do not achieve this goal. Immortality is like living long to about 100 or 2, but you can live longer, walking through the centuries, changing names and places of living.
i would suggest watching highlander front to back , episodes 1-7, thats where all the answers lay...
its possible immortality could be a state of mind. a true beleiver will reach it because he or she believes in it so much.
If your soul doth go on...you are then immortal.
As far as being immortal in human physical form, science and medicine is trying to acheive that.
It is sad that the experienced sould die and young ones take over to make similar mistakes all over again. Imagine if experienced sould were still here, would Kaos rule as much??
I was reading an article that stated that if you prevent or even slow down the oxidation of free radicles in the mitocodria it would add decades to your lifespan. Another article I read was a documented research in telomeres. Telomeres are the ends of chromosomes that specialized structures are involved in the replication and stability of linear DNA molecules. Think of it like coleslaw...the thing that holds everything together is the mayo...so in not so good analogy, telomeres are the mayo of our genetics. Every time a new cell, of any kind, is made...the telomeres get stretched out longer and thinner. This is why we get wrinkles, lose bone and muscle mass, etc as we age. So...after saying all that goppledygook...the article said that they are experimenting with telomere therapy that could greatly slow down, halt, and in some cases reverse the aging process to a certain degree. The experiment was done on mice, which have a lifespan of about 3 years generally. The control group of course all died around that time, but the test group had lived nearly a decade at the time of the articles publishing.
Maybe in the future...get Yourself frozen or something and you can live forever...in ice of course...
it can be possible geneticly it has been theoricly proven
Immortality - in any realm - is frankly impossible given the laws of physics.
Even the sun will burn out one day.
I do think Immortality Relms do exsist outside of space and time more like a transcend into a different dimension.
i think that it is not right 1 should not ive forever i know many dont belive but i do but god didnt want us to live for ever if we all did the wrold would b to crowded TO MANY PEOPLE
they are staring to ..., and have made breakthroughs in downloading ones mnd into a computer....., if you couple that with cloning..., I forsee ...., in the near future...., a clone of yourself with your mind downloaded in
Immortality Is Yet To Be Proven...
Nobody Has Yet Found Someone Who Has Lived For A Very Long Time..
Maybe There Is Maybe There Isnt
Who Knows..
I believe immortallity exists in what you leave behind when you die. I do not believe that people actually live on past their natural years. If you want to be immortal, touch a life!
maybe.... maybe not.... that`s one of my dillemmas too.... :)
in my opinion the soul lives on even if the body is dead and broken
immortality is in the mind, believing in urself can make u reach unlimited potential...
maybe in the future immortality will be achieved but for right now we are born we grow we age and we die that is the simple truth of life but I live life to the fullest so I will be remembered when I pass on to the other side.
immortality i believe is the life you live after death..i think we are are immortal er we will be...because of purgatory, heaven and hell(depending on what you believe in) and then reincarnation...the way i see you never really die..as you come back...you are simply out of it for a while and brought back as something better
Throws a theory into the ring - what if it is immortality of the soul? What if each of us that have been a vampire in this or another life have the ability to remember our otherlives???
There is an old African fable of which I won't bother telling the story of but the motto is simply this
"Only when one is forgotten are they truly dead"
I believe there is a relam for immortals on this earth
but when they die physically they are reincarnated as a new person
This is my take on immortality
Our body's were made to be feeble so that it cannot be reached
I think only few people are truly meant to know the meaning of immortality.
the immortality realm.. m,aybe it exists but not found yet- immortality is to do something in lifetime what is always in mind of later generations.
like i am being a prof. gardener for graves- i can say i made stuff for eternity
but immortallity is heavently to become- if possible
I have no idea if immortality is real or not, but if it does exist, I'm sure it is achievable. Perhaps if you've done something truely great to the gods or something, then immortality could be presented to you. I'm not sure though, it really depends on your religion I guess.
if immortality is real, I would believe it would come from scientific breakthroughs.
Cyberized bodies, prosthetics, etc.
I think immortality would be on a circular continuum, as immortal then as a light year from now.
Therefore impossible?
immortality can only be achieved if you are spirit. Even vampires are not immortal like some claim to be in books. After all they can commit suicide or be murdered. Truly you do not want immortality. It's a burden.
Well if someone was immortal do you think that they would admit to it. Think about it they would become a lab rat a scientific breakthrough they would be tested on to find out their strengths weaknesses then, the physical test blood work , studying of the cells every piece of them would be tested poked drained and re tested to find out how it happened its wouldn't be a nice way to spend eternity. People would pay vast amounts of money to be immortal and the person who held the power to sell it would be a very rich person indeed as well as a famous one. they would stop at nothing to find the answers so, if you were immortal would you not keep it to yourself?
Immortality as in you living forever..No..I don't believe that exists. However;...those that have children..and they have children..That is ones immortality. There is only one thing we are guranteed in this life. is death..
that goes along the same lines as leaving your mark on the world like......writing a book for instance.
Immortality in the sense of thought?
George Washington immortalized as our first president.
The only thing I can think of is.. immortality means dead? but alive? I dunno... Achieved? I dont know that either. I like the answers that some people put on here though. That is an excellent question!!
immortality lies within rememberance, for example: if your a musician that everyone loves and listens to and never gets burned out on, they'll be listening to it even after your dead, hence the soul lives on through the music, or whatever it is that you do for people to be reminded of you, just being in a family tree of a family that keeps up with that stuff through the years put you in rememberance and immortality. (just my opinion)
Im not really sure...to me it seems like its possible but i dont know how
I think it depends on your definition of immortality. If you are asking about life going on forever, I don't think so. If your talking about immortality in "spirit" then I think it is definitely possible, if not there are going to be alot of surprised people or actually there wont be :o)
MMMM.. everyone dies. That is all I have to say about it...
I think immortality at moment is beyond our reach but in fututre it will not be.
i agree with SamOfTheVamps, do we really know if immortality exists?? she does have a very good point about Dracula and Hitler. they are immortal but only through stories about what they did in their life times. besides i dont think i would want to live forever cuz u have to watch all ur friends and family die. and everyone u meet through ur life will at one point die. thats just too much death for me. if ur immortal all u do is watch everyone around u die over and over again. u would end up going crazy. or i would anyway.
we are all immortal............this body is mearly a shell.
I'm not sure if I already posted to this but, here goes. I think that when you are talking about the Body.. no one is immortal... some just merely live longer then others... but I do believe that there is a life after the death of ones body and that goes on forever.
There can really be no immortality to me or to anyone else. Yes spirits may roam this world but they eventually move on. i think we only become immortal when we die and i would never want to be immortal if we could..it just simply seems like death to me.
I think its merely being remembered, perhaps through music, kinda like kurt cobain, even though hes dead you still hear his voice when you play the cd, his soul lives on through that music. (just a theory)
I also see immortality as being in people's minds forever. When it comes to immortality in the sense of living phisically forever, I actually doubt that it is even enjoyable... After all, one gets bored of everything. Not to mention that you would have to witness how *everyone* you know and care about goes old and dies...
Wether it is in this life or the next, we shall all be given the choice of immortality or not.
How we will choose to react towards it I know not...
and in which form it comes I know not either...
but I do know we shall all face it.
My personal belief is that we achieve immortality through reincarnation. Though it would be lovely to be physically immortal, I'm fairly sure that it is not an attainable goal. Lol. I'm perfectly happy to stick with spiritual immorality through reincarnation.
nothing immortal except for thoses big fat turtles.... and the black metal band immortal that broke up 2 years agoe or so :P
ok heres my thoughts on it. we live and be die, BUT the soul if not killed will always live on. some go to a place after death were ever that may be, and athers go from life to life. being reporn all over again. some have been around since the beganing. but they havent lived threw all that. they die and get put into another shell as i call it.
I think what some may view as immortals (gods, dietys, various other godlike manifitations (is that spelt right?) ect) is something any of us cannot achieve. These are things of lore and legend and faith and belief. Athena was a mythological being born from her fathers head. Not something any of us can do or claim to have done.
As for the view as being a vampire = living forever. I dont share that view but when we die, as all of us will, I believe there is another level of exsistance. Something we exsist in until we choose to come back. Seeing how our soul never dies that would be a form of immortality that we all have.
immortality is for the gods but there is more beyond what we know.
Immortality.... I would not wish it on anyone. Imagine having eternity to watch everything loved, cared for, turn to dust. No Imortaility is something i would not wish for anyone.
I believe that our body, here on Earth is just a shell. I've always felt that our tru self, our soul... what ever you may refer to it as.... travlels on, as it did before our time now on Earth and as it will continue to do after our time here is done.
BUT, I don't feel that this is "immortality". My thoughts of what immortality is, would be if a soul were to live ONE life, from the time it was born until , well... until forever...On one plane of existance. To me that is what immortality means. So I don't know if I truly believe in immortality, but I know that I've lived before this life, and I will lose my human shell and my soul will continue to a new plane of existence when this life is over for me.....
Of course, this is just MY opinion.... I love reading about all of peoples beliefs and thoughts on it... it really opens up my eyes to how individual we all are..... its incredible.
Blessed Be, Krysta
Watching all you loved ones die...
Well... tell me how do you know you wont be facing that anyways ?
That is a ridicoulous reason that one...
IF there is a reason not to face eternity, its not that one... try rather the extreme boredom.
the only thing immortal is eternaly love
everyone will die or "fade away" someday
I feel it is torture to watch everything you loved and treasured turned into nothingness. Your family no longer alive and you left all alone. It may not seem to be a good reason to you. But i have seen to many die to wish it upon anyone else.
