i have woundered this question alot...Good or evil some spirits want us to know they r there and other's don't...So i was thinkin what are your views on this subject?

I am not convinced that this is always intentional. Could it be that a spirit has to learn the ways of the spirt? It may not have the knowlege of being unseen?

Hmmmm...I think some dont even realize that theyve passed on yet. Some have messages, like theyve made it to the other side, to be known to their relatives that are still alive. Some may appear just at the right time when something could happen to you as a warning of sorts....Im sure theres many reasons why they appear to us.

I agree with wolfy. Some probably don't intend on it, don't realize they've passed, have a purpose, etc.

some might show warnings, and some might just want to goof off.

Maybe its a power trip, for the not so nice spirits or maybe they're trying to carry on whatever they did in life. Maybe they don't want to be forgot, or maybe they are just having a bit of fun! Maybe they're trying to show us that there is something more after life

I think perhaps, in some cases, they have forgotten they need to move on. Perhaps they're just still so attached to their lives and the people they cared about, that they simply don't want to leave.

Yes I think some ghost/spirits wish to be seen... but some wish to stay unseen.. but I think they all make rhem selves known, in one way or another...

This is a very good question, one i have asked myself many a time and not really found a full-proof answer.......i believe that they show themselves to us in order to show that they still believe that they are of this life and part of this world...or is it just to show that there is something to look for after death???

Some spirits might show because they don't realize they're dead, and I think others show themselves to us because they think that maybe we can help them move on.

I believe spirits show themselves to warn us of danger or they could do it as a lost spirit that remains trapped in a situation that repeats it self, and for some trickery of light or shadow they are seen by us. trickery of the mind or flash in our eyes but they are there,

I think they manifest themselves to us because they have unfinished buisness, or died violently

i think spirits do exist but dont intentionaly mean to show themselfs i think its some sort of time line when they are crossing over

i think the reason why spirits show themselves to us is because they want to try and communicate with us

Maybe they just need to make contact or maybe they're living through their own perception and don't even realize we're there.

Or are we showing ourselves to them? Maybe they are only in view because we break down that barrier.

Maybe they still have a mission to fullfill , or were not ready to cross.

The idea that maybe its not them but us, maybe we're in a right frame of mind to be able to see them, a heightened sense of ourselves.
Animals and children are able to see things that we can't, maybe sometimes we are able to grasp something within ourselves and are able to see clearer.
Do we appear to them as they appear to us?
Maybe its not even them crossing over or inhabiting this realm but us crossing over into theirs?

To evolve out of that idea, what if they're not ghosts, the spirits of the dead, what if we're crossing over, or seeing a cross over from a parallel world?

How about it being another dimension, spilling into our own.

Thats what i'm talking about Forever, somehow crossing the thread into another realm or dimension, two people are at exact spots in either realm and are open to possibilities maybe it starts as each others energy crossing paths that invokes an awareness.

they are probably lost and and lonely and need another thing to communicate with Everything that is in this world yearns for communication with each other.

either that or they need help from you or anyone else to free their spirits.(good spirits)

I think you see sprits because basically they are on some kind of loop and most of them don't even know we exist. They live (I believe) in a paralell reality to our own, in which to them, we may seem like spooks ourselves.
And the ones that present themselves to us are poltergiests or low-level demons. I believe anyways.

spirits have different reasons for showing themselves. it could be that they need help from us to cross over, or they want people to pray for them or sometimes, just merely to be noticed

Theres many different reasons as to why a spirit may chose or inadvertently show themselves to us. Sometimes these reasons are known- other times they aren't.

that is all well and good..but i heard if u die a violent death u come back to haunt the person who did it,,,i don;t know about that,,,but spirits tend to show themselves more and more these days..

I do believe that spirits can show themselves, both good and evil. My understand has been that these events are significant and one should seek the reason for the appearence.

they do it for many reasons most just want to talk some want to bother you but there is always a reason for contact

no they have a reson to want to hur t you like people , they need a reson and its not always bad they could be protecting some one or even you and the reson i think why they appear to us is that sometimes they try to warn us about something and sometimes we see them by mistake

Could it be to let us know they are with us? Could it be they are looking for help to the other side? Could it be they don't want to leave the premises because they still think they live there? many coulds.

I believe that spirits make themselves known because they have something to say.

The evil spirits might want to scare us and probably to say "I see you" and probably followed by weird things happening. Good ones, maybe they need help or just want to be known.

Perhaps they have a strong attachment to our world from their past lives, and simply wish to carry on and still be a part of this world, not fully knowing how to do it.

Perhaps they are trying to communicate? Maybe to let us know they are not really gone? Maybe to give us hope?

There are so many mysteries that we cannot yet percieve, and yet the spirts are as complicated as those on out plane. so some may some may not just like you have your introverts and extroverts, what they mibht have been in the pass may also transcend into the next..... the short answer is who knows. maybe they are all college kids playing pranks.... there may be no right or wrong and certinally no absolute answer

What about the idea that- many spirits walk amongst us on a daily basis because our 'realm' and theirs intertwine?

well some want to be seen and others dont but i think that something still holds them to this world usally regret or saddness i'm sure they want to fix what they did wrong in there lives and they just can't let go

im not sure why they show theirselves. I know my mom had and encounter with one that kept knocking bowls out of the cabinet to the floor. It was around the time that my neice was born. She ended up putting a picture on the counter of my neice and it stopped happening. I always wondered about that. Was it just wanting to see and make sure the baby was ok?

Sometimes I think maybe they wish to help us or perhaps warn us.And maybe they need a companion to talk to and tell their fears to.

hmmm good question. i dont beleive that they want to show themselves to us... its us that has to have the gifts to see them. that is just my opinoin :)

i think they are disorientated. i dont know how they see things, but they dont have retinas. they don't have middle ear canals, so they probably can't feel gravity. in fact, without physical bodies, they probably can't feel anything. imagine you cannot feel anything, have no sense of up or down, have only the vaguest idea of the passing of time - you would feel totally lost and disorientated - you would need something to anchor you so you could get your bearings. maybe manifesting themselves before us is the only way they can do it.

that could be what happens...but then there's the question of why do some spirits show themselves while other don't.?

keep us on our toes? actually never seen one so im not sure they in fact do that.

who knows all i know is they show themselves usually to help u with something that is most important like a mystery of ur family or something

some I think seem to want to be seen. or feels like they can connect with the person they show themselves to. because how many times have you heard of a spirit showing themselvs to 20 people.

i have heard and seen a spirit show it's self to a group of 25 people..and i was one of them..but why did it do it?

karnstein has a similar opinion to mine. Apart his ideas being mine I'll also add that depending on their deaths and lives, sometimes they wouldn't be prepared to detach themselves from this plane.

Others might even be unable to rest so would wander around as well as some wouldn't be aware they are being seen.

My theories are based on proof, history and research but they're still just theories and personal ideas.

I think that sometimes if a soul is ripped from its body in a violent act then tsometimes they do not know they are dead and try to communicate with the world of the living.

i dont think all of them do it on purpose. they might not be aware of the fact that they are visible, or they are trying to pass down some message to someone.

I think some show their selfs on purpose and some don't even know their dead.Or they know their dead and can't accept the fact of crossing over or their just scared.

In some cases they are looking for help. In others them just know what they are doing or that they are even dead. Some times a "good" spirit will show it's self to help the living. And of course "evil" spirits will show them selfs to harm or manipulate a person.

personaly i think that we should leave spirits to do whatever they like and not question why because we will never know while we are alive. by a guess somtimes it could be a scene of where they died, somtimes it could be the fact the have happy memories in a place. i say leave them to it beause they cant hurt us and those that can only get their power from the fear we show towards them. people say dont dwell on the past yet that is what we do when we question spirits. just my opinion though.

I think they show themselves to us because they want us to know that theyare there. They might want help or need the help, Thats why they show themselves.

also in reply to BloodAngelX "evil" spirits get their powers from us giving them it. It's happened to me and my friend and most people spirituly active. you have to show your strength with these "evil" things so they can not harm you.

the reason that a lot of spirit show themselves is basicly because they whant to let ppl know that they exist.

I do agree with a lot of folks that a spirit may not realize they have passed and are "caught". But, I also think that they become attached to places or people from their life and practice what is known as "ritual haunting". They do the same thing, over and over, as something they might have done in their daily life.
Othertimes, I feel they are trying to pass on msg...of the happenings in a place or to themselves.

being a native woman, my gramma explained them to me this way,,when u r sought out by a spirit unless u r terrified of it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it was sent 2 u 4 a lesson, try tlearn from the o stay calm and centered to learn of the gift that is being offered but be wise and respectful, u may anger 1 and u may be never given another chance,,,,,,,,,,,,walk well

I think that spirit or otherwise deep down they hate being alone and living on the edge of life. They want to be part of the living they want to be heard and understood. I think thats the main reason many spirits try to contact the living. Others just hate life so much they want to ruin it for the rest of us.

I take these visitations seriously. I feel there is something I need to understand or more often do on behalf of the spirit.

some dont relise they are deceased, some just want to play games, some want to be a hinderance

i think they either have somethin they want you to do for them that they are not able to do themselves now as spirits or either to comfort you if it is a loved one that knows you need someone maybe

Because that is what we want. Do you know anyone who's lost someone they cared for to say, "I had nothing else to say or communicate with them, I won't miss anything." I can imagine the transition and loss is just as hard for them. But again, that's just what I imagine.

Most of this living world has a fascination with what it cannot see or touch in the conventional way. I would assume the same could be said for spirits.

Bright Blessings! In the Pagan faith we belive that when a person and/or pet passes away, they still have the ability to hear you and be with you. This doesnt mean that they are "stuck" and can't go on, it just means that "Spirit" provides the deceased with the ability of lending love and support to those who are still living untill they realize in their hearts that death is not the final chapter, only a new one. Most Witches belive that once the deceased individual has given some type of farewell, that the Goddess our Lady will send a guide to ecort them to the Summerland, a truly wonderful place beyond our realms of understanding.There they grow strong again, review what they did in the last life, learn new things, and choose (or not) to return to the Earth plane once agin.
When dealing with death, the people left behind need some type of closure, especialy if the death was a sudden one. It is thought by some that there is a resting period from death untill the person is able to communicate with you, and for some this time will be longer than others. The condition of your emotions also has alot to do with their ability to communicate with you. If you are extreamly upset, or believe that the dead is dead is dead, with no hope of a message, then they may not be able to get through for quite some time. Don't fear it just because you dont understant it . Hope this helps some.

I lean towards the belief that when we see spirits, we're simply seeing things we are projecting from our own mind.

Which would alter the topic of this thread to "Why do you think we create projections of spirits?"

A question that I believe has numerous answers, depending on the situation. I think many create projections of loved ones that have passed away out of longing to see them again. I think perhaps our overactive imaginations create things influenced by movies and stories we've read. And perhaps some do it simply out of a longing for attention. I'm sure I could add quite a few possibilities, but I think that's enough to demonstrate my point.

some are moms , checking on their kinder, some cannot find the door to the great egress..some dont know they have passed..some.... maybe they dont want to leave yet..unfinished business..some could be souls that had no religious path at all and dont know where to go or how to get there.

Let me just take out my ouija and find out. I'll try and get back to everyone as soon as I can get the difinitive answer. If there's no response on the board, I'll just wait until I die and see what happens :)

As to why? Well don't think they reveal themselves but more that some people are more sensitive to those forces.
And misinterpit them as spirits.

I think most of the time they don't reallize that we can see them. Some of the time they just want to be friends.

Well I believe that this question has multiple answers. I think that there are many people out there that die and do not realize that they are dead automatically. This would especially happen, I would think, in any kind of traumatic accident where the person dies suddenly. So, in this case, if this particular spirit was showing itself, it probably does not realize that they are a spirit and are rather confused as to what has happened to them.

Other times, I believe a spirit would make itself known if they are seeking help from a living person and need to make their presence known so that they may find the help they are looking for.

Furthermore, there are the evil spirits that died because of something they have wrongly done in their past lifetime and are still angry about their death. So, they show themselves so that they may harm others or at the least scare someone.

I belive that they show us them if they want to or need to. Depend on how they died or what they have to complete before moving on, being at peace. They may be unaware of their death and just trying to comunicate.

I'm with Moridin on this one. Although I do not discount the idea of other-worldy communications, I think most of the time people see what they want to see.

I think sometimes they just want to see who can & can't see them. Sometimes they warn us of something, need help moving on, & some I think just want to be acknowledged.

I think spririts might show themselves to us in order to warn us about something we are doing wrong that they did as well when they were alive.

Well personally if a spirit chooses to show itself to someone, then that spirit must have some reason or maybe they have some relation to the person. who knows really. I think that they like to cling to what they no longer have which is life. Although I am not sure as to why some spirits show themselves and others do not

I would suppose they show themselves because they can. If there is a purpose then I would suppose it is their own reasoning behind it. Maybe they can control it maybe they can't.

I think you had a lead on this one when you started it.... Some of them want us to know of there presence in a "physical" form others don't they just like to observe our lives... and interact in other ways....

that is true on some levels..but it seems more and more spirits are showing themselves to people who are open to it ...my question is why?
