Just wondering why we have a calling to this vampire nature, I believe it’s in our DNA the junk DNA.
I guess just like they found the criminal DNA that means your very prone to being a criminal we have vamp DNA or something Vampish in our history.
What do you think why are you drawn to this life

Saddnes and a messed up life is what drew out this nature in me this cold bitter darkness.

If they have found criminal DNA in a person, then Im sure it's possible to find a DNA linked to this

they have found alot of diffrent DNA's including people who like kids in a sexual way... in recent studies it shows that its in there jeans they cant control it... but that is still sick though...

Somethings may be in your DNA so don't laugh too hard. But it may also go even deeper than that. It may be part of your Soul. There is indeed something called a Vampire Archetype. So not only are you a vamp now, you will be forever! Most people have more than one archetype and will rotate them throughout their life but you never ever change them.

I was reading about genetic engineering and the transfer of individual genes from one cell to another and placed in a new host. The new rooted DNA will direct it’s proteins and what not’s it can even make new cells, even new species.
from quails into chickens embryo made a chicken that made quail sounds and a quails that made chicken noises and head bobbling… they mated and produced ordinary chickens. So nature won. I thought well that’s like the vamp bite.
Junk DNA is believed to be left over from our evolution, selfish genes or transposons replicate really fast compared to normal genes and act only in there best interest and can be detrimental to the organism there acting on thus considered parasitic or Vampiric.
Im wondering in this day and age if there is a mutation were all carrying making us feel vampirisms … just like other DNA makes us criminals

DNA makes-up the being.If dna can mutate even on its own..its called evolution.And yes..sience can change or mess arround with DNA..making the slightest changes..to create new breeds..or beings.Vamp DNA..like other in this way are all the same.Boren like they are..then sience could minipulate it..if they can.

I believe you are right.I had a professor who spoke about junk DNA.it is a frienge science at this point,but like he said Astro Archology(what the sky was like in ancient times) was once like it.An interesting book on junk DNA is the "Cosmic Serpent and the Origin Of Knowledge" By Jeremy Narby.I feel some of us have more DNA turned on than others.

i agree i think it's in the DNA, my dad loves the darker things in life... and no it didnt just rub off on me, i didnt have him around when i was a child.

The only way we would finmd out for sure would be to do a detailed sciencetific studdy on us our DNA our life styles and i higly doubt enough people would come forward to take part to make any research possible. We fear too much and know so little, we fear narrow mindedness but do not most of us come up against that in every day life?

Well science has yet to fully do a genetic map so it is possible to find anything in our DNA

When my mother was pregnant with me, she used to watch Dark Shadows religiously...being in the south, some of the family would tell her "you shouldn't watch that crap you'll mark the baby." As long as I can remember, I have watched vampire movies...growing up watching Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee play Dracula...maybe there IS some truth to that whole "marking the baby" wives tale? :)

I'm not so sure that I myself would be willing to rule out the DNA theory.

After all, take me for example. I'm not a vampire, but I am gay. Long before I knew it was viewed as wrong, ore even different, I had these feelings that I did not understand.

It's not such a far leap in my mind to think the same could be said for a vampire.

I believe A 'true' Vampire will have certain telltales in DNA.

you can tell if somone is Diabetic or even prone to a stroke later in life. DNA also shows aggressive nature and genetic disorders.. so YES, I believe Vamp DNA is very possible.

we are back on the nature versus nurture debate that has had sociologists at each others throats for so long. i think this is a direction we dont want to go in. where will the idea that criminal tendencies being in DNA take us? will criminals be able to use it as an excuse? or will society go the other way, and innocent babies be persecuted for the things they may do when they grow older?

Thats a good point Karn, I was wondering about that myself, if the "criminal DNA" is found in a child at a young age, will they be persecuted for it.

I don't see how it can be viewed as justice to persecute someone for a crime they haven't committed, or to wander even further into the guessing game, for a crime they haven't committed yet. Who knows the future anyway?

I dont think vampyrism is a learnd trait, I believe we are born that way, I have always been into horror and love the sight of blood rather it be human or animal lol i aklways catch myself drooling or start drooling. its terrible but the truth I think we are reincarnated from others and belive in is in our genes somehow or souls either way we are born with it.

I think the idea that it's linked to DNA is really interesting, makes a lot of sense. I've always felt drawn to vampires and everything that goes with that. When I was little all my friends were afraid of vampire movies and stories but I was intruiged.

First let’s look at what DNA is…it contains all the information needed to make cells. It also contains all the genetic traits we have. Being able to roll your tongue is a genetic trait. Being left handed, having brown eyes, curly hair, and so on. Sequencing in genes controls the use of the information in the cell. (science teacher…sorry!)

So, if a sequencer becomes corrupt or a DNA strand becomes corrupted it mutates or changes. So why couldn’t vampirism be genetic?

Alot of people theorize that vampirism- ie drinking blood, is tied to the body not getting enough of specific vitamens. Specifically from not drinking enough milk. The only real difference between milk and blood is the red blood cell count. Now how does THAT blow your mind *chuckles*

Might be possible to Identify an aggressive DNA and avoid future POSSIBLE 'troubles'.
Although we ALL have aggression it is a survival instinct, we vary in how we react.
I am not certain if a vamp KNOWS this from a young age. I have never heard of a kid biting or craving blood

I have taught elementary school special education and have had a couple of students who were biters and blood drinkers.

I doubt it is in the DNA but then again I could be totally wrong. There is different things some people may be going through that does not directly involve DNA. It is very hard to prove it and the only way to prove it is if people actually site and studied people who need blood/ energy. This need is something that needs to really be looked at before coming up with any theory dealing with DNA.

I wouldn't rule out DNA for anything. I also think the need for energy is a very natural human trait. As I have shared before, if human energy were not necessary... solitary confinement in prison would not be a punishment.

Hypothetically, even if the gene was found, it does not mean 100% that you would be a vampire or criminal. Genetics can play a role in the odds of you suffering from heart attacks, daibetis,cancer etc but it isnt a nail in the coffin.

The enviroment we live in and our socialization can and does play a huge part in how we will turn out. If you have a higher risk for certain illnesses, and you are proactive in trying to reduce the nongenetic risk factors, it is possible to advert the outcome.

I am not stating that being a vampire is a disease, but if you were raised in an enviroment where you never saw or heard of vampires, could you still claim to be one? How could you know the nuanced version of a vampire? As it is, genes do not always dictate a fate written in stone.

I'm not really sure about this. I know that there are characteristics/genes in our DNA that basically set a path for the type of being we will become and are in the present. Vampire DNA would make sense, since there are so many other DNA make ups out there. I'm not sure why I have leaned toward this lifestyle, but I also don't feel like I have "leaned" toward it persay, it is more something that I have just been attuned to my entire life. This darkness is apart of me.

But you won't get the aggression akin to a jack-Russel out of a labrador... they are genetically (naturally) more docile.

This reminds me very much of the movie Gattica. We are not just the some of our genes.

They may determine much of what we physically become, but our spirit is not controled by our bodies. Our minds/spirit can lead us to do amazing things beyond what is physically explained.

So the idea of DNA being responsible for us, I find as a way of removing personal responsibility. We are more than the sum of our parts, if we allow ourselves to be.

DNA may be able to explain alot but it never excuse the actions, otherwise all that were doing wrongs would accuse the dna. Still interesting if we could manufacture (mixt and atch the dna) of the perfect vampire, Of course our genes and the dna it self we have is holding some particularities to make us do or be what we are. Studies tho for this particular gene are probably not on top of the study list.

Being in the medical profession,I deal with scientific facts..for the most part anyways.Some things are just fate too..scientific data and whatnot are grand..but some people die from the same injury and some do not.The soul or will come into play a lot in my line of work.
I am not saying the DNA thing is wrong, just not buying it as this time.
I think what we are is in the soul, and of course we all have blood.But I don' think it's that cut and dried..forgive the pun there.What we are is more spiritual I think.It goes deeper than a change in a DNA pattern.

I believe it's a mix of Nature and Nurture. The DNA does play a roll in anyones life. But the way one is raised also has an influence on their actions and what they will do.

I haven't read about anyone finding DNA that points to criminal behavior. I saw that mentioned earlier. Perhaps someone read about criminal dna testing as a means of identification and mistook that info.

Either way, if one does believe that vampirism is a born trait, then we'd have to look at either DNA or something more metaphysical like a soul.

Its not techinally crime dna ,they claim that there is a neurological issue,that when growing up in bad area's or people can be triggered but there have been people having this issue within them growing up in good homes and be just fine,alot has to do with yuor experinces and how they shape you, of course there is still more to learn and will always be more to learn, i believe there could be such a thing that draws us to the night and some that just love the night. There was once a goat which would attack other goats and kill them. At first no one knew what was killing their goats, but one day someone witnessed the killer goat. They killed the killer goat and did studies on it. Eventually they got to study the DNA of this goat and it had a predisposition for violence.

As I see it, nature has its way of controlling things, no matter what humans can come up with to counter it. The more we mess with nature, the more likely it will be that nature will mess with us. A good example is: We have overpopulated this planet already. As a result, nature causes birth defects and disease (among others), to control our numbers. In turn, humans find ways to treat illness and we protect our physically challenged members of society. Nature also creates mentally unstable people who seem normal, yet end up killing innocent people either through war or terrorism.

In my belief, nature will find a way to reduce our numbers, to bring balance back to this world.

The human ability to manipulate DNA is the starting point where humans might discover their hidden desires for dark things.

DNA is a complicated and wonderful thing. I believe we all carry recessive genes from our ancestors. They may manifest themselves whenever. We are not the same as the famous peas studied by Johann Gregor Mendel of St. Thomas Monastery. But he did some fabulous research with plants. There is similarities with the dominant and recessive genes. It's a fabulous subject to research!

I find this topic very interesting. Just my 2 cents.... I believe it is a combination of vamp DNA, up bringing/life experiences, their soul and free will. I believe the DNA is there, that we as individuals choose to allow that trait to exhibited or repressed. I don't believe that just because a person likes vampire movies or horror flicks or likes the sight of blood that that makes them a vampire. I belive it is something, most likely DNA, within them that is partly responsible for who/what they are and that their experiences continue to shape who/what they are. And yes, I also agree with the its part of your soul thought too.

If you break it down to likes and dislikes... twins that have been seperated at birth- when reunited as adults find they have always had the same interests and favorite foods- many times having the same jobs and dressing in the same styles.

If you view modern vampirism as an 'interest', it is common that parents pass these interests down. Even if you view it as a 'need'... same, same.

I think the whole Idea of traits like criminal persuasion and vampirism is kind of fishy, but still very interesting...

I am pretty impressed by some of the replies on here. I do not think there is a vamp dna that is embedded in us. Or people that follow the vamp lifestyle. That is a choice that is made by the interest of the matter. Not inheritied.

I think there is a big difference between living the vampire lifestyle and being a vampire. I think that if you just live the lifestyle it probably has little to do with DNA but if you truely are a vampire it probably has a lot to do with your DNA.

I've always been fascinated with vampires & dark creatures as such, whether its in my DNA, i have no idea...would be kool to find out for sure!

If they can find criminal DNA that would put a stop to a lot of crimes, people with Crim DNA...i guess its not their fault for being the way they are...its in their blood, its apart of who they are but we can help by teaching them to resist the urge to do crime or something...i mean if they can help people with Obseity DNA then they can help people with Crim DNA...ok but to the question in hand. Tho i did see a programme once, cant remember the name...but it was about vampirism & how people now a days live their lives by it!

One guy drinks blood to survive, his doctor told him that it would help him survive...strange as that may seem, a doctor telling him and all! But he did have a rare blood disorder, which was kept in check by drink blood!

Another guy he's skin was so sensitive to sunlight that if he went out in it for say 10mins he'd get 3rd degree burns...so he wrapped up all the time or just stay in doors til night came along!

one girl was born with white eyes & jet black hair, very sharp nails that grow very fast and vampire teeth with holes in them...all natural...so i guess we could have vamp DNA in us...somewhere along the line! you never know!

I do think it's in the DNA my half sister is more like her dad then are mom. I'm more like are mom and my dad she's not like us at all. she all happy and colorful;P When my dad and i are all black and my mom stays up all night and hates to sleep. If it's not in are DNA then were does it come from?
