We've all heard... that children and animals are more sensitive to the "paranormal" shall we say ... does anyone have any personal stories to share .. of either themselves as a child ... or of "witnessing" an occurrence of another child?

posting in another thread reminded me of something happened to me and my youngest daughter a few years ago ...

My FAVORITE Uncle Joe... had passed on, from cancer, and my youngest daughter was very VERY close to him too.. about two weeks after his passing .. she and I had gone to the mausoleum (sp?? lol) where his ashes had been interred ... his "plaque" was on the outside.... as we stood there .. my daughter (then 5) said .."listen momma"
*What baby??*
"Listen... cant you hear it?"
I listened .. but heard nothing out of the ordinary .. so i asked ..
*I dont hear anything different baby .. what do YOU hear?*
"I ... can hear....... him singing momma... listen ..." .. and she started humming along with what she was "hearing"

I dont mind telling you .. every hair on my body stood on end .. she told me that she couldnt hear the words.. but she knew it was "JUNKY OH" lol cuz she could tell it was his voice...

i like to believe she DID hear him ... what do YOU think?? .. was she just caught up in the "moment" and remembering hearing him sing? or was JUNKY OH really singing to her or for us??

Children and animals both seem to have a "sixth sense" when it comes to the paranormal or reading people for what they truly are.I believe it has to do with "innocence.I think as we mature we lose that ability.

I believe children are more open minded to things of the paranormal nature because they will accept things that may be unusual in their environment, they may be scared of it, but at least they are noticing it's presence. I think that adults tend to block certain things out and just do not pay attention to things that they do not think exists.

I am not sure that we lose the ability. some people retain it thru their lives. I think we just stop seeing and hearing because society tells us what we perceive is not there and children believe what adults tell them. But that is just my opinion...

I can rememebr babysitting a little girn nextdoor she was about 5 and she went in to the room she went in to the closet and she started talking i figured it was just her being a kid with imaginary friends and everything but when i went in to the closet to check on her she looked at me then she looked at "HIM" and she said "pa pa" I looked at what she was pointing at and there was nothing there and I just felt strange and i started to talk to her and say what is pa pa and she pointed to the direction again and she got really excited and said he's here he's here then she started to cry histerically when i grabed her arm to take her out i tried to calm her down but nothing would calm her unless she went back to the closet she slept there every night and she didnt want anyone else to come in it was really strange to me, then I talked to her mother and I found out that her father died of brian caner and her daughter only saw him once.

I beleive children are more intuned at everything around them, hence they are more suseptable to the paranormal. maybe that is why, like in the fable peter pan only the children can dream and believe and when they grow old they are no longer able to have this ability and their innocence is lost to this concrete society we call work and being grown up.

Kids and animals are extremely perceptive to their surroundings. Its a natural skill that dissappears in humans as we got holder because we dont focus on it to fne tune it. I'd say she was hearing him for sure :)

I was at a house babysitting many years back and one of the girls, 4 years old, kept talking about the “people” in her room and how they would sometimes keep her awake talking to each other. I asked her what they looked like and she said an old man and women. I asked her if she had told her parents and she said that she had, but that she was dreaming. Later a mutual friend told me about the house, apparently the house had belonged to an old couple who had committed suicide when the women had been in late stages of a disease. The way the girl talked about “the people” in such an honest way was what made my hair stand on end that night. I believe that the mind of a child has not been conditioned to exclude a lot of what is actually around us.

Well, I can't say this happened when I was a kid... but yes, I have atrue story for you ...
My grandfather was a tough man of the Great Depression era -- he was strict about saving resources, never being lazy and MOST of all never giving up.
When he and my grandmother mved tho their retirement community (a sprawling 150 acre estate)...he started taking wood shop classes (maybe not such a great idea for someone who thought he could still drive even though he would knock over mailboxes....but moving on...). He very much wanted to make a wood plaque of hhis favorite picture depicting a stork with a half-swallowed frog in its beak -- the frog, on the othe hand had managed to wrap it's hands around the stork's throat and was throttling it. the caption read "Never give up". So, my pop was dubbed the frog.
When he died of pancreatic cancer (and right after the final inning of a Yankee World Series, mind you -- he said he wanted to see the whole series...) He had opted to donate his body to the hospital so that he might help in research, etc.
The hospital threw a combined memorial service for all of those in the same program since there were no bodies to view and to show their respect.
While listening to the speakers, I noticed out of the corner of my eye, a FROG! He sat there throughout the entire service and left when it was over. Folks, the service was indoors.
It doesn;t stop there. My grandmother, as she was getting closer to her "time" (I hate that turn of phrase) was soon to move from the retirement estate and to a nursing home so she could be looked after properly. My sis and I went to visit and took her outside to a patio to enjoy the pleasant weather. An albino frong was sitting on the frame of my grandmother's chair! He didn't move at our approach and let me pick him up and pet him (without peeing all over me). I set the frog on the table and the only time he moved was to hop in front of my grandmother and sit by her. He stayed with us all afternoon.
A week before my grandmother passed, she was in the nursing home at this time, one of the nurses told us that a frog somehow made it into the building and to the bedside table next to my grandmother. The nurse looked perplexed as we showed no signs of disgust but rather a bittersweet smile of understanding. Pop, had come to visit the love of his life...

So, in closing (finally for some of you lol) I believe that it's more than children and animals that may be hyper-sensitive to paranormal activities -- I believe an extremely strong emotional bond, specifically love, can transcend dimensions... Even fight the flames of hell, itself!

I just remember for a lot of my childhood sitting on the floor 'playing' with the things I was sensing, and some of them were fun. (i was an only child so its not like I had other kids to play with) It seemed like some of them were trying to teach me something....

I can still sense 'things' but now instead of all of them being nice to me some are just up to no good.

It has been stated multiple time earlier in this thread that as children age, most loose their ability to see the 'paranormal' for different reasons. I would like to throw an alternate explination out for discussion. How much of the ability to see such things do you think stems from the mind locking out those things that it doesn't want to deal with?

Your thoughts please.

Sure hate...but as we grow older many opt to deny observing things that are not paranormal as well. This had been referred to PTSD (Post traumatic Stress Disorder). My friends mother watched someone leap from the Twin Towers and land not yards away from her -- if you want an idea of what a splattered body can look like visit rotten.com
To this day, she is in complete denial and cannot even watch anyone jumping (on the ground, into a pool...etc..) without having an anxiety attack. Yet, she has blocked it entirely.

I believe that children can see the paranormal for one of a couple reasons. One being that they're innocent and their minds haven't been tampered with stories, life, etc. Another could be that kids have wild imaginations (think imaginary friends). They may see something and their minds can warp it into something else; or, when they're telling someone about it, their story grows (what kids hasn't recanted a story/experience with details that didn't happen?).

I believe that your daughter truly heard him. Children and animals both seem to have the ability to hear, feel, and see the presence of "the other world" as some like to call it. I remember being a kid growing up in a spiritual family. Since the day I was born they encouraged me to see beyond this world. They always looked for signs when I was a little kid that would suggest me seeing, hearing or feeling something that they couldn't. I believe that as kids grow up, if they are taught about "the other world" and encouraged to open their eyes and heart to the other things around them in which most people refuse to see that they will continue to progress as they mature. Theres ppl out there that don't see these things anymore because they have been told their whole life that it's just flase, a figment of their imagination and not just that but they've been told it's wronge, a sin. Being as encouraged as I was as a kid and growing up being told that it's okay for me to see these things and that it's not false and to express what i see, hear and feel, I have been able to grow spiritually. As a kid, being ten at the time, was when I was really beginning to uderstand what my family was talking about. The one thing I remember and always will remember seeing as a little kid was a young boy that used to come around my house. My older sister and I used to see him continuously. The first time I remember seeing him was when I was watching my mother put on makeup in the bathroom. She was looking at the mirror as was I while every once in a while I'd look straight at her other then the image of her in the mirror. I was just sitting on the bathroom counter staring into the mirror when I noticed a boy. Somewhere around my age with red hair and a little bit of freckles under his blue eyes. I stared right at him through the mirror which felt like forever until my mother turned to me realizing that I was seeing something in which she couldn't see. She questioned me so much that night. Calling her friends and telling them she couldn't make it to w/e gathering they were going to go to. That night my grandmother along with 2 of my aunts came by to ask about what I seen. With each thing my sister and I saw, they seemed to be happy each time they heard it. Their happieness encouraged my sister and I even more to open our eyes, hearts and ears to everything else that was out there. So yes I truly believe you daughter heard what she heard and if encouraged farther she'll be able to hold onto that ability through her life.

When my 4 kids were little, they often spoke of the nice old lady who was around the house. They were never afraid. I believe the old lady was my Grandmother, who only met my oldest, Danielle, before she passed. I was the favorite Grandchild, so I believe she is watching over my family. Also, I have turned out to be an awesome cook. My Grandmother was a goddess as far as cooking goes. I just have a natural knack for cooking, and so does my Daughter. My Grandmother was the sweetest little ladies you could have ever met.

As a child I could sense a presence in my room, and not a nice one. My dog and cat may times sleeping with me would start to pace the bed staring at my closet. Many times I was woken up by my dog barking at "nothing". I had dolls that had painted faces wink at me and things fall from nowhere. These things no longer happen. when i grew up the precense seemed to be less and less and now I don't have too many problems.

Children are so pure and innocent, they are open to all worlds, to all things. I do believe more so than most adults. They don't have hang ups, they don't judge, they haven't grown old and bitter. Their minds are free to receive. Their souls are untouched, their hearts haven't grown cold.

This may have been his way of saying goodbye. My uncle and one of my aunts came to me when I was a child but all I remember was seeing them and feeling them holding my hand at their own funerals. well now that i look back and think about the question children of a certain age, can be very sensitive to the paranormal, they feel when there is something wrong and they feel when there is something evil, they may getscared and run others just step back away from it, I do not know if anyone i know has experinced this but well i am sure that children can see things that arent there and can feel what others can't things we would normally be afriad of they go to with open arms obviously there is good in it they can tell the good from the bad and they see things differently then we do.

My mom asked her what she was lookin at and the little girl said that there was a man sitting. My mom thought it was wierd. so a few minutes later she asked if he was still there, and she looked up and said yes. plus we have seen and heard strange things in my house. Im pretty sure its haunted. but not dangerously so or obvious.

Children are prone to the paranormal because they are innocent, but the older they get the less they see things!! But if they were trained, they could keep that gift until they die, but some children have the natural third eye which will never leave them!

Animals see paranormal things, as they have a natural third eye anyway!!

As a child i use to see things, ghostin particular, when i was growing up, the house we lived in was haunte by a young girl, we use to have tea parties & she would let me out of cot just so we could play, but as i got older we played less & less, i still have dreams about her & stuff but havent seen her since i was about 7yrs old....she use to move things around & use to scary &annoy the shit out of our baby sitter, changing channels when something sexual came on the tv, stuff like that!

I sometimes think that if i had grown up with her, would i be able to see other things!

I do believe that your daughter really did hear her grandfather singing that day. i do think that children are more sensitive to the spirits than adults. Childern are carefree, so their minds are more open. the older you get, the more you tend to grasp for explanations. Plus, your daughter was really close to her grandpa, and there is definatey a connection there.

My sister tends to have many experiences that most would consider "supernatural" ... I've seen her walking through the kitchen, and the glass in her hand will fly into the air involuntarily. I'm not sure what to make of it. I've also seen a few objects thrown at her when we were the only ones in the room...

I believe children and animals have a more heightened sense then we do. My step-daughter, who is 18 months old, will sit and stare at my fireplace, often bursting with laughter, where as on the other hand, none of my 7 animals will go near it.

As a child a shadow angel would visit my room at night. I would be so scared that I would lie still and pretend to be sleeping.. she would stand at the foot of my bed then travel up the wall and vanish.

My Grandpa died on my son's 3rd birthday. I took him to the funeral, and during the ceremony he kept looking to the back of the church waving and saying "bye bye GwaGwa" (that's what he called his GreatGrandpa). Then a few months later he was sitting on the floor playing, suddenly stopped, started laughing and said "silly GwaGwa". He then proceded to sing a song my grandpa used to sing to me as a girl. I was so in awe of my son at that moment, because he could see what I couldn't. I had been told on many occasions by many people that my son is gifted in that respect.

Well, twice as a child, I woke up, and at the end of the hall beyond my bed was what I call "The dark shadow" Because its very much a sillouette, but when you look harder he starts to disappear. this first happened that I can remember when I was about 7. The Second time, Oh, 11 I never had a good feeling from it, and bad things often happened.

When I was a kid, from very early on, and until today, I saw/see things. About the age of 7, I had a boy playmate who lived around the corner from me, who I played with almost daily- Owen. One day I was in his room, and he wasn't, and I saw someone standing at the doorway. When I turned, it was a very sickly, scarey looking man. He stood there a moment, then turned and walked away and up the hallway. I was scared, he didn't feel good, and I told his mom right away, who refused to believe me when I described him, and told me to go home!!!

I told my mom, and then forot about it again till last year, when she and I were talking about my gift...and she told me that the reason she was mad and made me go home was that it was the description of her uncle who had died the day before I saw him, from something like cancer.

When I was about 9, I dreamt of a death- just one in the family where you saw everyone upset after the fact, at the funeral, but not clues were given as to whom it was....less than a week later, my aunt died of an anurism. Several times thru life this type of thing has happened, tho that's not seeing a 'ghost' persay, but seeing them saying goodbye, within minutes literally of death- my grandmother and grandfather maternally.

When I was a teen, I had other experiences...one stick to mind of helping friends in Atlantic City, NJ decipher the deaths of a mother and child ghost who had previously owned the home, and their murderer who also haunted the home.

My daughter, who is 1 1/2 , sees things too. I know that because she will watch non-visible things moving, and then I'll see them, or toys in her room will play by themselves. She refuses to be in her room at night or sleep alone in there. BUT, I will help her to learn to deal with these things as she grows....as it runs in the family on both sides.

yea i think children and animals have that extra capabilities in them call it the sixth sense or whatever. they can sense the coming danger or the things to come . we here in india belive that when a dog cries in the night it certainly brings someone's death .likewise a crawling crow always brings some bad news with it . so yes we can say that maybe they can sense the things to come and its true.

I do believe that animals and children have a "sixths sense" ,so to speak, about such things. I do remember when i was younger I could sense such things. I even remember asking my mother about this guy sitting on a bench. She could not see him yet I still could. After words my cat seemed to watch the empty bench as if someone sitting on it was looking at her.

I've seen spirits ever since I was little. Still do. My mom used to get worried and she thought I had night terrors very badly, but eventually she knew. It's not exactly spirits that I see, they're demons. I can feel how evil they are. I can chose to see them or not though, so I've learned to control it. It's like a chip in my brain I can turn off and on.

I have seen spirits through out my life, but what really touched me was, I had a friend that i was close with from age 13 to 24, he committed suicidebefore my daughter was born, when she was almost 1, she kept looking at something and giggling, and one day she started making this funny face that only he made, and i believe that got to meet.

My oldest neice, Kaylana... saw a spirit when she lived on base housing. She was 3 years old... and the things she said, I knew she wasn't making it up.

My Brother, his wife, and my two neices lived on the Naval Base here in Lemoore. About a month after moving into their house, Kaylana would not sleep. She would stand on her bed and scream. My sister-in-law (brandie) did not know what was going on. One night, my sister watched Kaylana while she was in the room. She was just peeking through the crack because her door was a little open. What my sister witnessed scared the shit out of her. Kaylana was sitting on her bed, and she was talking. Brandie thought she was talking to herself, then Kaylana slapped the side of her bed and said "No! You can't sit there!" Then a minute later, she slapped the other side of her bed and said "No! You can't sit there either!" Well, later on, all this was still happening, and Brandie asked Kaylana who she was talking to.

For about two hours, Kaylana told Brandie all about this soldier, who was afraid of flies. He has a wound on his leg, and couldn't pull his pants up. He didn't like Mommy (brandie) but he followed Daddy (Paul, my brother) around the house.

Okay, seriously, this girl was 3 years old and she's using words like wound, and soldier and gave Brandie the guy's full name. This freaked sister out, so she had the house blessed and ever since then, this thing has not come back. They moved out of there within that year though.

So I do think that children and animals are more susceptible to the paranormal. Their minds are not as closed off as Adult Humans.

Children are always more susceptable to paranormal activity, their minds are wide open and innocent.

I have seen unexplainable things when I was a child, but not since I was well into my teens. Stuff falling off shelves or moved to different areas of the room. I've heard people talking in the next room over when there wasn't anyone in the room.
I remember all this stuff happening while I was home alone, never when someone else was in the house with me, so I kept my mouth shut about everything so no one would think I was crazy.

I have seen myself and have watched my children look at things and tell me about them to not believe that children, as well as animals, are more intune with their surroundings. It is something which I have strived hard to regain with some success. I still hear things when no one else is home or everyone else is asleep or see something out of the corner of my eye. Mind playing tricks perhaps but the problem is thats exactly what most people train their kids to believe.

thing about the paranormal is it isnt paranormal at all. yes, children do see and hear things most adults dont because adults choose to believe its a figment of thier imagination. sadly, some children dont believe it either. but the flip side to that is some adult know it is real. they really just keep in touch with themselves. i also believe that you get 1 chance. if you doubt it, if just for a second, the ability leaves you.

yes, i do see and hear things, messages, from the dearly departed. i have many experiences, and if you want to hear them just message me.

i have seen, felt and communicated with such since i was very young. the ability has just always been there.

i noticed recently that my little cousin has it as well. she sees and communicates with things others dont see. she is 6 years old. unfortunately, both she and i were/are raised in a hyper-christian environment. i was terrified as a small child because according to what all the adults were telling me, satan himself was going to come out from under my bed and drag me down to hell. and as for my cousin, her family writes it off as she has seen it somewhere on tv and is merely emulating it...they get angry at her when they tell her to stop and she cant. if i wasnt so far away, i would help teach her how to use her gifts.

As a child i was a weird little shit. My family lived in a very old house. My mother will always tell me how she would come into my room and i was talking to no one and would say mommy so and so is right here. Now this is my own personal account and through my mothers eyes. Take of it what you may. My dog on the other hand did have accounts with the dead. After I lost my child (dont me a whore at 13 *sigh*) my dog started acting very strange. I would hear all sorts of strange things related to my child but the dog could see it. I remember her staring very confused at my bed. As years passed it was almost like she was playing with my long passed child. She would get hyper for no reason and jump around like when i would play with her. At this point I was able to pick up on my child. So I could suposidly see spirts as a child, my dog could, then i saw my childs spirt as i grew older. Theres three lovely accounts rolled into one.

I have been lucky (??) enought to have been able to see spirits for as long as I can remember.. at least 38 years. I still do. I believe one reason that kids seem to hae more experiences is that they have not been told its evil or worng. They also have not learned yet that telling others can be a bad thing. Friends and family saying tis a bad thing or reacting badly can effect what you "allow" to happen to you a great deal.

In my family I was able to have the ability nutured and trained instead of being made to feel I was a freak or wrong.

I have noticed when alot of people seem to lose.. or let go of this ability is around the teen years.. and I believe art of that is wishing to conform to everyone else.

When my little sister was about three she would often have conversations with some unseen entity while she played on her bed. She often played for hours as if she was entertaining hers friends. We often commented to each other that maybe she had an imaginary. Later when she was about 6 she moved out of the old house and went to live with her mother. Over night she stopped having conversations by herself. Moreover, about the same time we started to experience many disturbances in the house, foot steps up and down the hallway when you were alone in the house, footsteps walking up and down the stairs when nobody was on the staircase, and loud bangs in the night. Sometimes the ghost gets brazen and touches people. It is pretty creepy when you feel someone touching you and your alone. The worst disturbance we have experienced in the house is when we’re lying alone in bed, sometimes our bed will move or shake and you can feel some nonentity pressing up against you. I guess when my little sister left the house the ghost hungered for company and started to make itself known to the rest of the household.

When I was a child we were in a house that had stories. Me being so young I didn't know them but every night I heard screaming just screaming of ones about my age. I told my parents and they told me it was just nightmares. As we stayed I heard more. It got to where I heard them laughing and playing then a voice telling them to shut up and screams and a door slam. Later I found out that someone locked children in the basement and let them starve and rot. Do not just avoid your children saying they hear something or see something.

I feel that children or innocents so they are more in-tune with being open to everything around them, just as animals are in-tune to be open to their surroundings in order to survive. We unfurtunately grow up and allow ourselves to close off alot of the Natural things in life. It is sad to say.

You have to be OPEN MINDED in order to see and feel everything completely that is around you, I totally believe your Daughter had heard him

There was this one time, i was in my car, and i swear i saw my friend drive by in his car at a certain intersection (doesn't matter which one no one knows it), so i called him and i said dude i thought you were in san diego this weekend. he told me he was, and i told him i just saw him. He said i couldn't have. It gave me a really bad feeling, i told him all about it, and told him to stay off the intersection. The next time he crossed the intersection, he got in an accident that completly totaled his car, and nearly killed him. I don't know if it was paranormal, or premonition, or what the hell, but it was pretty wierd.

children have a more open mind because they have yet to experience alot of doubt in their life, leaving them more open to the supernatural of spirits, ghost etc. It is that they are still very innocent. The world has yet to corrupt them or change them, grant it there are adukts who are subjected to seeing also yet, only if your open minded and allow it to be seen or heard.

I believe that both children and animals are more open with the paranormal. I believe that because neither children nor animals are molded into society it's easier to see what adults can not. But that is just my opinion.

children are mor eopen minded and have less barriers, they do beleive in santa claus and in the fairy tales, because they open their mind and allow it to see thigns we dont and to ear tings we adult dont, over the years we gradually close our mind to several things, and tis result in less awareness and also we tell ourselves alot fo things are just imaginary, so what ever others dont see or ear to our mind becomes imaginary, so we block it.
As for earing him, I do beleive she was.

Well children and animals are the only ones that can see ghost and dead loved ones, adults can see them too aswell.

I still see my grandmother still too this day and she died almost 4 yrs ago, and her smell is around here still to this day lol.

I never lost the ability to see people and my childern and i see them together sometimes they see them before I do.
And when they tell me they see some one or they hear someone I make sure I say hello and welcome,Or are they still there so that i might have a word with them?
My mother was open as well when i was a child she would tell me that i would come to her and tell her that there is a man standing in the cornor of my room.
and latter on only to find out that a man who lived in the town house before us had died there in my room.
my mother would talk to an old lady once in a while that would just be there in our living room I wouldn't talk to her just looked and latter on my mother told me that was a great grandparent that she did not know had past away at that time.
and if the twins and myself do not see anyone our 2 cats and dog do they run up to it or away from it or bark at it but I all ways say Hello welcome injoy your stay.

I believe and have always believed that everyone has the ability to bridge the gap between the living and the dead if they are truly in touch with their own spirt or inner self. HOWEVER, i do believe that this ability is amplified in children. They have not yet been programed or encoded ((so to speak)) with the ciniczm and disbelief that adults develop while growing up. Children are more suceptable to accepting paranormal activitly because they do not question it and try to explain it in another way.

When i was a child my great-grandfather whom i was somewhat close to died of a heart attack. Also during this difficult time, i was forced by the court system to have required visitation with my father every other weekend. Needless to say my mother and i do not get along with my father for personal reasons. I remember being so scared to go with him and so scared to leave my mom. To make a long story short, i used to see my great-grandfather sitting next to me in the car on the ride there, just trying to calm me down and tell me that everything was going to be okay and work out for the best in the end. He actually got mr through the whole experience for years. To this day, one of my favorite places to be is in the car, because i still feel that safe prescence. I remember the day i told my mom ((his granddaughter)) and my grandmother ((his daughter)) and that didn't say anything and all they did was smile and start crying...happy tears.

I saw my first ghost when I was a child. I think I was about 5 or 6. Scary thing is it did not scare me at all. If I would see one today I would probably freak out. Don't think I would do the movie version of it by standing there with a blank expression on my face going 'WTF' while I get possessed or something. No buddy, you would have to catch me cuz my butt would be way gone. I think that is what the difference is, children don't think like adults. Children still believe and can see something for what it is. Not too many children know what it is they are seeing till years later.

It is a well beleived fact in my personal family, that children have hightened senses of the paranormal.. Espceically those that will be highly attuned later in life.. Adults that have no ability to acknowlage this as they grow old, lost what little ability they had at puberty.. And those that still can are less profecient at onset of puberty as well.

Children have not received all the conditioning that adults have. Adults have heard over and over again others version of reality and that if you believe in certain things you will be labeled insane. No-one on this site will go to a job and tell people if they believe in spiritual things that are not mainstream. Your reputation on the job will be shot and you can forget a promotion. You could lose your job as well.

Children have less to lose so they can plug into channels that adults either ignore or are lead to believe do not extist.
