In less than 30 minutes I had to close the game due to people cheating.

Rampant cheating is why game development has all but slowed to a standstill. "

Houses and Covens received this message this evening from Cancer. Within 30 minutes....

Why do you do it? To feel like you've won? You never win by cheating..and what's worse-you take the pleasure away from the entire society.
On top of that, and most importantly, you take hours and hours of Cancer's time and you spit on it. How can you expect him to make new games for us to enjoy when you show such utter disrespect for the work that goes into developing something like this.

I'm really very personally offended. I looked forward to the release of a new game.

So how do we as a group help to prevent this? Is there a way? I'd certainly love to hear suggestions.

One was is for Coven Masters to make sure that the "need" of favor is not encourage to the point of breaking VR rules. Personally my stance is that any such behaviour is not tolerated. Each society develops its own rules, and unfortunately not everyone has integrity.

There was a new game and I missed out entirely? An unscramble word game?! I love those! *cries* Cheaters really are terrible. The point of a game like that is to solve it. Cheating at word games is like peeling the stickers off a Rubik's cube to solve it. It's much more satisfying, if time consuming, to learn how to solve the puzzle CORRECTLY.

That's offensive to me. Games are meant to be learned and enjoyed. Intellectual games are especially fun if you give them a chance. That really sucks.

I'm all for new games being introduced. I did get a chance to try out the scramble game before it was taken out. I have to admit that it was kind of hard ( I didn't win on the two tries). I did think that 60 seconds wasn't enough time to figure out the words, of course, I'm not very good at unscrambling words either.

I did not even knowit was possible to cheat on it, I played twice and had to leave, its sad cause it was really cool to have a new game, and I agree it sucks that poeple did that, it is shwoign a lack of respect and also a lack of maturity, it ruins everyone's pleasure for a few ....... I am not gonna write the words but I am sure many think the same words that I think, who dont deserve to even be on VR. It sucks, and I bet they are rpoud of them for cheating...not even a shame of themselves for ruining it for others and for crushing hours of work and efforts that Cancer gave us. Its pittyfull ......

As a coven master I do ask for favors but I make sure it is reasonable and that it is possible to get them even with hangman, so there is no cheating, I ask 10 a week, this is I beleive reasonable.

I'm pissed that I missed out on playing, it would have been a nice change of pace from hangman.

Cheating..not worth it... shame on you! For taking something worked long and hard to give us and you take it away that fast....

I tried playing it and let me tell you, I thought it was hard. Fun, but hard. I suck at those kinds of games, but seeing the person that was at the top in wins continue winning made me keep trying at it. Played it like 20 times and still did not win. Its sad though to hear that people were cheating and even worse that it ruined not only someones hard work but also the fun and enjoyment that so many could have had playing it and getting better at it.

I am upset that I missed out on a new game. Thank you very much to all you cheaters. Why in the world would you cheat at a word scramble game. 60 Secs is plenty of time, it just makes it more challenging. Way to go cheaters.

Wasn't surprised so much as thoroughly disappointed and fairly pissed off.

If you stop caring about poor behavior because you're used to it happening..then it will never change.

I am totally useless at computer games, but am sad that people feel the need to cheat.

It's completely disgusting that people feel the need to cheat at these games which are all about increasing the standing of the society you were chosen to be in, most of which actively promote virtues such as honesty. I hope the people who ruin it for everyone get what they deserve.

It amazes me that people are dumb enough to cheat and think they can get away with it.

We (Fallen Souls) actively encourage the winning of favour and have set an achievable target per week but I wouldn't tolerate cheating.

It ultimately ruins it for everyone else as this case shows. Nice one guys *roll*

Its a shame, i didnt even get chance to play the game. it only takes a few to ruin it for us all. but as billy said people use online dictorneries for hang man.
At least with 5x5x5 you cant cheat.
maybe make another game, where its hard or impossible to cheat.

Just to add to DV's post - I think the point is we shouldn't have to make thinsg cheat-proof. We don't want cheating full stop (or period to our US friends)

yeah we dont want cheating nobody does.
But how can we prevent it?

why do people do this kinda shit, didnt even give the game a chance to survive, people need to get a life or off the rave if there gonna pull this kind of crap, alot of time and effort to bring new things to the rave and people just dont get it...

Ok let me see if I can sum this up in a nutshell.

1. I hate cheaters.

2. Like many have already said why cheat and is it really worth it to ruin it for others who would like other games on the site?

3. Cancer and the others that help him to put the games together should be shown more respect than that. (as well as the ones who play them)

4. In my opinion the one/s that are caught cheating should be barred from the site if they can be caught. The way to stop them is something that may be hard to do but this way would be a start.

5. I know that I work my tail off with hangman and would hate to see other games end up like "unscramble" gone due to fools that do not show respect or have honor in themselves to play fairly. Sad part about it is that I didn't even know that the new game was added until My Coven Mistress let us know about it.

People who cheat suck. :p We don't like you here, cheaters! Why go and screw up things for those of us that are honest and work our tails off for our favor every week? It's not fair, it's completely wrong. I hope that your coven/house masters find out who you are and kick you out of your society home!

I am sad for Cancer.

It must have taken him ages to write the game, he must have been so excited to launch it and wait to see it in use - only to watch someone ruin all that hard work.

IF the societies are putting members under a lot of pressure to gain favor, then maybe their could be a sanction against the cheat's society (game suspension for a period) then the societies can put equal pressure on their members not to cheat

i think some people look at the games different and don't see it as cheating when others look at it and do see it as cheating..it is a shame but what can you do especially if their a paying member.

people try to get something for nothing that is why they cheat to try to get ahead when they get caught they just get knocked right back down so keep your head up

I was looking forward to playing the new game. I can not believe that someone would ruin it for all of the others. I am not sure of how it could be stopped. I just can't believe someone would disprespect Cancer like that. He spent his time on bringing us a new game for all to enjoy and then someone ruined it.

Its a shame that people don't have enough faith in them selves to feel they have to cheat.

Art that is a good point. Perhaps more than just suspensions, but banning those member that cheat from being on a house/coven "black list" so that they are NOT inducted for 60-90 days after being caught cheating.

Or allowing the Housemasters and Regents the ability to take away just the game privilege from members.

A suspension from them seems to be in order; in a similar way we have them for the forums.

In our coven Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho, we dont apreciate cheaters we hate them and if one meber is caught it being kicked out and we report him /her to the Master's message system to tell all other Coven/House Master, we set an achevable goal without that is possible to get even on dial up once a week online, I test it before settingi it, as for punsihsing the Cove/House, it all depends if the poeple in are aware and do nothing then yes if they also is more then 1/5 of the poeple cheating maybe the cove/house can be deprive of the games for 24 -48 hours just to warn the rest of the members of the event and its consequences, other then that well if there is evidence the poeple in charge knew and ether encourage or did it the coven/house should be disband or the leader change I knwo ti sounds harsh but I think we all think the same thing inside, but no one dares say it.

I already posted clearly in Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho (coven) that if a person is caught its not gonna be pretty and send out a house message to to warned everyone.

Anyway, yeah it's pretty sad how people can be so pathetic that they feel the only way they can win at something is by cheating... I have no tolerance for that what so ever. Also, it is a big sign of disrespect to Cancer who actually made the game in the first place!! >:(

I was another of the lucky ones who got to play the scramble game once before it was taken away. I was disappointed when it did go off the contests page and wondered "what the heck?"

No matter what kind of game is put out, there will always be those who cheat. Favor is kind of like money in the houses/covens, therefore it does mean something to many. The only thing that can be done is cheaters be punished rightfully. People cheat with hangman, and I am wondering if people are still cheating during 5x5x5, which wouldn't surprise me. It just disappoints me.

I think the only way that some of the cheating would stop is if the houses/covens didn't put so much importance on favor to begin with.

I didn't even get to see the game! I was so looking forward to it too. I love hangman and any word puzzle game really so this really sucks. I agree with the suspension of the person and the playing rights of them too. Sounds reasonable.

its a fact of life - if you encourage competitiveness, you encourage cheating. if you can find a way of awarding points for playing instead of just for winning, or maybe award points for how many people you get to play with you instead of how many games you win - that might work

Moonie that is a great point, and would make the "house cleaning" much easier.

Not only that, it would not mean hours more coding to have a new system in place ;)

Even though I am fairly new around here I agree with the deleting the cheaters. Not due to any personal hatred or anything but people need to realize that actions have consequenses. Heck let them rejoin the site if they wish, but back down to 0 on everything. Might make others think twice before doing such a thing again.

You know this is an outrage .. We have been waiting a long time fora new game .. Cancer worked his butt off trying to make this fun for us.. I got to play once or twice .. didnt win crap .. lol.. messaged cancer saying great job and thanx.. What happens someone cheats and BAM.. all his hard work and effort down the drain cause of someones obsessiveness to be the best .. Honsetly the favor has nothing to do with it .. I havent seen a House or Coven with very high favor standards.. 10- 15 a week is easy to get so thats not the problem. Should be higher.. its a privledge to be earning favor for a House or a Coven not your given right .. SO SHOW SOME DAMN RESPECT to the ones who make this site possible..
Some must really think that Cancer has nothing else going on that he just has the site to run..The man has more on his plate then most everyone on here,and I feel we owe him some respect for taking time out to make the site fun everyone .... This is the best vampire site out there right now, and some just mess it up for the rest .. So dont be suprised if there wont be any new games.. Those who constantly cheat at the games just do us all a favor and leave the site ..

this really upsets me to hear about this, i didnt even get a chance to know that there was a new game out. im always looking for fun games to make lots of favor for myhouse.

perhaps not too much pressure to get favor would lessen the problems.

couldnt people just actually learn to take the time and learn and develop skill. jeeze. i mean thats what happened to the matrix game and i didnt even get a chance to try that out.

The mark of shame is a good idea.. but they dont deserve to even be on here . the "FLUSH BUTTON" sounds like a more deserving role .. but A mark of shame for a week would be great so we could see the ones before deletion..

Duneshifter, I think the problem is that some people are just too lazy to actually learn a skill, or acquire it so they must cheat in order to make their wins...

It saddens me peoples lack of respect and their honesty. I was aware a game was being made, but never even got the chance to play it and really was looking forward to it.

I feel bad for cancer he puts all this effort into making this site great and then we have A*~*oles who have to try and ruin it. Where is the respect,honesty and honor anymore, damn people grow up and just work for the favors,damn! Alot of us work hard for our favors some work harder than others, but to earn favors you have to earn them and not steal them.

I deal with alot of jerks everyday being a coven protector and there r a few on here and that truly sucks, but that is life and is expected, but we are the only species that kills for pleasure also.

-shakes head- when the houses and covens first started it didnt matter to me which house or coven i was chosen for i just wanted to be able to prove myself when i became inducted.

In my first house i learned quickly that in some of my own ways i could make them proud with favor. it wasnt something i was forced to do, i simply wanted to, so i dedicated myself to bettering my skill at getting as much favor as possible from hangman, i didnt really give myself time to learn any of the other games but still, it didnt mean i didnt want to try something new when it presented itself.

sure although with time i moved on from my first glorious house to a coven my will to prove myself never died down. and i knew that first hand, there would be those who wouldnt put as much time and dedication i did in developing my favor earning skill. But look what its down, all these people cheating, they cheat for what, for glory, what a pety reason to do something that affects everyone else. I just hate seeing that through others folly, others who actually have honorable reasons for earning favor suffer.

I as well have prided myself in being a favor earner.. I had to wait intil I was able to play as I sat and watched my brother play ..lol

I am not that good at thelil blue dude but hell I still try .. So I did what I had to learn to play 5x5x5.. I know have a good rep in playing the only game I can play .. I can notice if someone has cheated on there and love to play them .. Nowthebigthing is record .. LMAO .. ifyou think a good record makes you honorable ..your far from mistaken.. try to help those who are new at the game and teach them while playing .. yeah you could win in 12 moves but so what .. If favor is that important , try just explaining to your House master or Coven Master that its very difficult for you to earn what they ask and help out the House or Coven in other ways.. Speak up they will listen..

i gotta say, i am quite dismayed how some people will do anything to earn favor and get more points just so they can get promotion. i mean, these people spend their entire lives online. get a life for christ sake. you want to try for a real tough task? turn off your computer, open your front door, talk face to face with a live person. sheeee.

very true grievious some are not good at favors, but they help in other ways by rating and their profile, so there is many ways to help a coven and not only by favor.

There are always other ways to contribute to ones own house or coven. if you have difficulty with just making favor then would it kill you to ask for help from those who know from their own experience how to make favor, if anyone approached me, id help them with making some favor, its really not that hard, its just a matter of experimenting here and there and deriving from them a strategy.

I think that many of the covens and houses have very reasonable goals for favor and other such things.

Deletion/zapping/suspension are good ideas to deal with the problem or taking away their gaming privileges.

BUT...

The idea of putting a mark of shame on them is childish and would be just starting more drama on VR. What would seriously be the point it would be making? Other then we are an immature society that likes humiliating people for our own entertainment.

Almost everyone has cheated at something once in their life. I have! It was fourth grade spelling tests and it was because I wanted the approval of my parents so much! No that doesn't excuse the behavior and it should have been punished. But think about it... what the hell would be the point in a mark of shame on VR?

Cheating is wrong in any aspect of life. A simple game on a website such as this should be the least of anyone's desire to ruin by cheating. UNREAL how childish and unadult some people can be. I thought we had a higher caliber of people here. Goes to show you we don't on some levels.

I never saw the new game and am just finding out we had one. This is sad. Some societies think that lots of favor is the only thing that will move their society to the top. Being number one seems to be their only goal. Their members receive countless house messages and private messages to step up the favor earning . If not, they are told they will be blinded, kicked or traded to a society they will not appreciate being a part of at all.

Hopefully, the cheating will cease. Some people will always try to get over. That is just in their nature.

You know before I thought it was just something that would be funny, but with this there should be punishment. I truthfully don't think that deleting is enough, with this there should be shame.

Personally, I think Cancer should, if only temporarily and as a lesson, take away all the games. Then only award favor to each society based on their members contributions to the site, example...Submitting to the sites database. When members see how difficult it can be to earn favor this way and see how difficult it is to do anything constructive and beneficial for the site, maybe they'd realize how much work goes into the site and get a feel for how much work it can be for Cancer and his administration...While at the same time contributing in a positive way to the site in a way they can't possibly cheat and give Cancer somewhat of a break, considering how much work goes into the progamming of the games.
But, tht's just my opinion....There has to be a constructive way of dealing with this problem.

HOLY !@$# PEOPLE..... I have gone through and read most of the responses and truthfully.... I didn't even know we had a new game.... my other half mentioned it but I wasn't paying attention.... NOW thanks to those who cheat I don't even get to play the damn thing.... THANKS I really appreciate it.... (Sarcasm) I know this pisses the Prince off because of, yes repetition, he spent so long developing it and had to take it all off. I know this is a tune will continue to play as everyone protests the cheaters... Even the cheaters will post thier distaste to make themselves look better..... Bones that is a great idea, I'm not sure how much coding it would require. But even the removal of games would punish the majority that are not cheating. I think that is really the biggest problem... how do you solve the problem without punishing all?

i have been waiting for the new game as well. i havent been on vr since thursday and i didnt even get to check it out. some people dont have anything better to do than be deceitful. will there be any new games at all soon?

i dont understand how any one would want to cheat..i didnt like the game personally nothing against the developers. but thought the words were too long lol and the screen kept blinking lol messed with my eyes but other than that i loved the premise....its going to be hard to not punish everyone...even those who didnt cheat and played the game fairly. you cant mix the guilty with the innocent...

Since I haven't gotten to the level of games yet I'm sad I'll never see the game. And hopefully when I'm there it wont be ruined by the cheaters.

At the start of the houses.....we discussed applying a minimum favor requirement like so many others had, My stance was that this is exactly what is the end result of doing just that..I realize that Nocturnal might be higher in the ratings if we all were somewhat forced to work harder on it.....
I myself would not be in the administrative level I am within the house...I probably would have been blinded and traded off as useless long ago in fact.....but my point is that we are simply a community, and while we don't exactly have choice concerning house or coven.....we do have choice in how we react within them....
in my case I was very clear from the start that I felt to favor system was just begging for stupid levels of unnecessary and damaging competitiveness....and this was the argument I presented against us having a minimum.....sadly...I was proven right, baser human nature prevails once again, to the lessening of the whole.this is not to say that someone who has NO input ever into the house will be blinded or traded.....but simply that your input defines who you are, some are game players and enjoy that....others..like myself, have little to no interest in the games, and therefore should no be forced to play them....we have better things to do with life....
like friendly discussion or debate of intellectual natures, or even simply silliness with our peers...
cheating is derived from a requirement to win...nothing more..nothing less...
