Whoops killed it
How do you think the change will affect the Rave; and will it be as big an evolution as, say, the introduction of Houses/Covens? What other evolutions have occurred that have radically affected the rave?
As you said gaining favor for looking at the other houses and covens would be nice. I know that I like to look through the other ones a few times a week just to see what the new covens are about, what types of information they have and what some of there ideas are.
I've never found VampireRave to be the "same" two days in a row. But just as with all the other changes or improvements people will grumble about it, (how some hate change) but eventually everyone will continue on as if this never took place. While I personally miss hangman and look forward to it's return as a non-Favor earning attraction, I have always enjoyed reading the forum and journals more. There's a wealth of knowledge buried here if we have time to look for it, now maybe more will find the time.
In a way I like it and in a way I dont but with what happened I think Cancer came up with the right solution until he can figure something better out. I have been enjoying my time here and its a shame that the few are making all suffer. I like the new way because it gives every one the same chances too.
I feel that houses and covens with more members will be the power movers on the site, but that also depends on how active the members are in those houses/covens.
I agree mm. change is good. sometimes it can be a little hard to get used to but it is always for a reason. i think vr has changed tremendously since i've been here. and honestly some of the change i loved, and some of it i hated. but all in all, the site evolves much like we do. every day more is added, some is taken away, but overall the general concern we have will always be the same, we want whats best, and that part i love and hope never changes. many of us really care about this site and each other. so whatever happens, i think we will all be ok.
I agree with Cobalt. Cancer done this for a reason and I completely understand his reason.
Two games have been restored: Hangman and Scramble. I will restore more as time permits.
There is a new link in the Main Menu under Members: Games.
All Vampire Rave members can now play the games.
I'm glad that some of the games have made it back for all the VR members, even those not in a Society.
And I can't wait to get playing! :)
As soon as I saw that hangman was back I went straight to it. I'm hoping that 5s come back.
I know that the new favor system is there to benefit all in societies, but we should be able to have some games that are favor earners on top of what we are making. I think that the games that are not cheatable(giggles cos she made a word up)should be on as favor earning. If not, make some moderators... you have staff for everything, and I know you can find some good honest people around here...
I suggested moderators a while ago nfa.
but im guessing that would take a lot of time.
I find the competitions like the one that Images set up to be far superior for encouraging worthwhile and meaningful participation than playing the games. More please *smile*
Well yes cancer did do it for a purpose. And it just really saddened me to see them gone...I am glad they are back thou even if not as favor earn's. woo hoo (O:
NFA,
EVERY game had rampant cheating. Creating a cheat-proof game is not possible.
Since I code all of these games, every single one of them can be reverse-coded.
Moderators are not the answer. The sheer numbers it would take makes it implausible.
The only solution, as I have already stated, is occasional contents.
Personally I would like to say....Cancer thank you very much for the 2 games you have brought back....I for one am very grateful.

SO games are back... even if they aren't for favor... they ARE :) Play them and be interacting on the site = favor. And you can gather favor rather you are winning or not :)
This seems like the biggest win-win situation that a person can ask for.
You don't like the games- you don't have to play but still will earn favor.
You love the games, you can play them and still earn favor. More importantly, the reason for cheating has been eliminated.
I suppose the difficulty is in how you view the Rave. This is not a major change, it is more a change of perception of how we interact for favor.
Part of my origional post was to encourage people to talk about previous big changes. Does anyone think they will be leaving due to the change; it is my understanding that there were a lot of people that stopped coming for some time after houses were introduced.
Any comments on previous changes, did any of you leave and return? Why did you do so? I really hadn't intended for this forum to turn into a thread about the games, but about how the Rave will be affected by the change... even how "damage control will be affected by sires to maintain their status, e&.
I think it strengthens the site - games are all well and good but they can become the main focus of participation. I seemed to find myself encouraging my coven to win favour rather than improve their profiles or read and rate the database properly. Now reading articles properly gains favour as you are on them for longer lol.
A bit hypocritical
I hate my keyboard
A bit hypocritical I know as I don't have the biggest interest in the core subject but I think it does encourage peoiple to take more of an interest in what is going on rather than playing games
I haven't been here long enough to discuss previous changes - sorry *smile*
I look forward to seeing the contests for favor, its exciting to imagine what kind of challenge he will come up with and also how much favor he will award. I hope its something that will contribute to the site like the VR house emblem contest.
Liebe,
I still expect there to be cheating in the games. However, cheating will no longer impact Society standings.
There are leader boards for the games and people will cheat to earn position.
Kglitterous,
Yes, a few people left after VR Societies were introduced. But it really was *a few*. Furthermore, I was more than happy to see those few go. They were the types that bitched about *anything*.
Unfortunately, many of them didn't stay gone. Most of them returned after around 6 months.
After an initial balkingon my part...(humans, me included, are resistant to change)...I really like the new favor system.
We can induct members and they earn favor whether they are active in our houses and covens or not. It really is a win-win solution for all here.
I am glad the games are back - but I miss BOGGLED! That was a game I really enjoyed playing. I hope to see that one back soon - but in the meantime there is so much else to see and do here it isn't the end of the world.
I really suck at games. However, I do read the forum and peoples' profiles. Now to gain favor that way is great with me.
Honestly I think is one of the best things to happen to VR. This makes everytone favorable members not just the Favor earners as everyone is now capable to earn just for working hard to level themselves and interacting on the site .. It eliminates the constant cheating in the games...
Personally I'm one that dreads change. It has put me being on vr a little less than before. I don't think it will make me leave. I guess I just need time to adjust to it. I'm sure some will probably leave, but that's the way this site is. People leave everyday & someone new joins.
I myself am glad to see the games back. But I am also glad to see the evolution taking place. For me & the Coven of Inari, it has energized us as a whole. I for one am thankful of the change.
Changes had to be made for fairness. If favor was earned dishonestly, it wasn't fair. Now we're getting it at top speed because a NUMBER of people are gathering it at the same time vice a few playing like wild fire. The scores are going up quickly for those who participated in the ways they thought counted the most- simply interacting with their teams in the forum.
Indeed you are correct Stories.
Another interesting turn is that now the societies are only seeking people who will be active on the site. A "favor hound" who only came on for a brief time each day to play hangman or 5s is no longer an asset to a society. Their 'general' inactivity will show now in the favor they earn via time and pages.
I am kind of happy that the favors can be earn by actually being active on VR, not just logg go to games push push push, then leave. It was beganing to be a burden a bit, not the games, the games are fine and cool, love the blue dude, but the pressure of "having" do them even when you dont feel like doing games, when you feel like going around reading profiles, journals, forum post with or without posting, just to look around, kind a like window shoping, and enjoy VR for VR and the Coven (point to self lol) or House Master are still getting favors without having to remind the members that we all need it, cause just by being here the member can enjoy a forum thread or an article and earn them, so its a win=win situation as someone already stated.
So Cancer, thank you *bows* you really do such amazing things I thank you sincerly.
i love the way the favs are awarded now.. and so easy to make a lot in a short time with a little effort.. but im so glad the games are back..lol
I lile the changes and I like that games are back even if they are just for fun
At first, I didnt like the change. But now.. it does seem fair. People who are on here all the time, deserve something to show for it, when they werent as good as others were at the Contests.
Fair... really?
What kind of pretence is that...
If we wanted fair wouldn't the weight of a whelp rate be the same as mine? Or vis versa shouldn't my time and page effort be retroactively awarded favour?
It is STILL a game of Monopoly...
A social dynamic experiment that really isn't fair at all; simply tha tthe wrong sort of people were favoured before.
*laughs*
I couldnt agree more cancer, the system is fair and works fine in my eyes. The new changes just give people a better chance to show their worth and have fun doing it :)
change is good. sometimes it can be a little hard to get used to but it is always for a reason. i think vr has changed tremendously since i've been here. and honestly some of the change the site evolves much like we do. every day more is added, some is taken away, but overall the general concern we have will always be the same, we want whats best, and that part i love and hope never changes
I agree change is good. sometimes it can be a little hard to get used to but it is always for a reason
It sounds good to me. I doubt there are any intentions of 'how to make Vampire Rave suck'. Seems like some pretty solid decision making.
Change is a good thing. It keeps things from getting old hat or stale. Plus, it helps one to be flexible and to adapt.
As a fairly new member here, I never got to play the games when they counted towards favor. Personally, if all that cheating was going on then Cancer made the right choice by removing them. I'm not opposed to change, when it's done in the right fashion.
I like the status system as it is now. If I really want to move up, then I'll get off my ass and work for it. I'll EARN my rank, just like everyone else here.
i have been with VR since March and i enjoy every minute of it, there are good times for change sometimes good sometimes not but we are all about making things better.
Doesn't just logging in the play games kinda defeat of the purpose of why we are all here? I get a kick out of reading profiles, looking at portfolios, and reading journals. Earning favor and/or raising my status for doing something I enjoy is just a bonus.
oops sorry Its early morning... one cup of coffee :::shrugging shoulders:::: what can I say? dsylexia rules!
Oh, I quite agree with you Cancer; however it is still a biased system.
My point was that all things have bias, and thus are unfair. Life is unfair, unless you realize that all things have bias.
It most definately is a very beautiful system, I think there is a balance to the new bias that rivals serendipity in it's "perfection."
I was not pointing out flaws, I was being pedantic, in an ironic way; that is my humour style... it amuses me if not others *wink*
wow ..
I personally like the new ways. very much so as a matter of fact :)
and I agree with cancer.
Plus
really who likes every one on a site.
Not every one here is going to like each other
Im sure that there is one or two ppl maybe more that I personally don't care for
But those ppl I just stay away from :)
I think the houses with greater numbers have an unfair advantage. But then again, it's just another way to show how great a house actually is.
I think the biggest change is that shortly after the favor system was changed, many houses and covens started force inducting again. I know that many of them were doing so before, but now it seems that most of them are openly stating that they force induct. Its quite funny to watch.
Personally, the new system works in my favor, as I am here constantly every day and never was really one for the games. So, in that way, I like it.
But I sincerely believe it makes sense also. As previously stated by others, the most important things as a VR member are to actually spend time here and get to know the site and the people on it. Add that to the fact that - again, as others have mentioned - you still (in a way) earn favor by playing the games.
I'm very happy with the new system, as I feel it places more emphasis on what is truly important as a member of VR.
I have to say when the games were first pulled I was devastated! I loved the competition and feeling of accomplishment by earning favor!
Now however after the shock wore off lol, I find myself enjoying the Rave more and interacting with more people. I find I am enjoying it now that I am done with the withdrawal stage!
I think it is good for VR to have a change since I have been here everything has changed.. so I am use to changes
I've gone past the point of absorbing it, have accepted it and it is now the norm. I really like the different spin it gives on the weekly favour charts and allows different people to gain recognition in the coven.
I happen to like the new favor earning concept although I don't really like change much and as for the rating weight I agree with Cancer that it is totally fair otherwise the childish whelp bombers would kill everyones ratings on the entire site and no one would be happy.
i am pleased to see the games back, but find that the time peramiters may need updated...
it seems that for those of us that are rating and on on a daily basis get way too far ahead of the time spent online vs all of the rating, posting and page viewed specks...
Thanks for listening...morlock333
I was pretty sure there would be alot more inductions... I had not anticipated quite the spree that occured, however.
Nor is it concievable (to me) that that would be the source of the critique of the change.
Why people would bitch about something that did not even change is beyond me; it's like buying a bus pass and bitching that there are other people on the same bus as you, just because the weather got warmer.
Well its been a couple of weeks since the change occured. Sure there is some complaining, but it is still relatively small compared to how many people are (and have) been forcible inducted once reaching level 5.
Some covens/houses have decided to re-energize their membership by increasing the number of people they induct. Others are fine not playing to the standings game, and little has changed for them. We will have to wait and see in the long run to see which strategy prevails.
Yes I do agree we still earn favor when playing games just in a different way. You can also compete against each other with points instead of favors. One nice benefit is all members of VR can play now.
I am loving the new rating system and not having to play the games to win favor has taken a lot of pressure off and made playing the games more fun. I did like 5's because it gave me a chance to talk to other vr members in a more real time setting. I find I have way more time to rate profiles now and check out the forum which is something I really like doing.
I enjoy the way that things are now. 1 The games are more fun 2 the favor system benifits all instead of just some 3 There appears to be less complaints about how things are done.
Cobalt
I wasn't around for the old way, but I'm ok with it now.
The fav system now is much better, and I guess those who were saying that it would be the downfall of Vr were very wrong..lol
Im curious how many people are still playing the games..
I wasn't ever good at the games...so now I can earn favor from just enjoying my time on here.....don't have to worry about winning a game...
I much prefer the new system. I always thought that earning favour through the games was a little unfair, after all, not everybody is good at Hangman or the others! But now, you're rewarded for the time you spend on here, which is much better.
I like the new system better, I wasn't any good with the games and now I can concentrate on leveling up and getting rewarded for it.
I personally think this new way is much more fairer in the favor earning.. as im not so good on the games we had here prviously where we could earn high mounts of favors the Matrix's.. Hell i stared at those for hours on end and forget it was no use but hangman i could do and well but it was only one favor at a time .. Now this new way is much better.. ty Cancer
I do notice a small flaw in the favor system.
Houses have been known to make deals to rate each others members all 10s. This in itself isn't really a bad thing. But many times one house will break the deal and rate the non PMs really low.
I do not think this will affect Vampire Rave at all, the majority of people who comes to Vampire Rave every day enjoys being here...
I think the change has proven itself to work well.
Still miss 5's though lol
This is a very interseting and challenging change that will effect all houses and covens.
I like both systems for one reason or another. I could earn a ton playing boggled when it was for favor. However, with the new system I earn by viewing pages and spending time. So now I rate more and it levels me up faster.
I dont care about the old system. It's gone. I think we are still struggling to adapt to the new system and certainly my coven members skill and drive was possibly based round it.
When I start my coven, it will be focussed on the new ways of doing things
I like the new system we get rewarded for taking the time to be online. I just miss competing against other members on 5's
yes I must admit the direct competition element is missed. Well dogfight was a coven based system outwith the formal VR model. What aboiut someone setting up a similar system for the new way if that is possible? (I dont play the games myself lol)
i think the games being back are kool i enjoy them also thanx cancer. i think changes are really good for VR i look forward to any more that you may change it makes it better on here.
i personally didnt see the change. i played hangman for favors but i cant see how a person could cheat that game..only one could play it.. but if it need to be a change then be it..
well about the induction I was already force inducting since I started my coven, but as some have mention bombing on profile well it was the result, along with threath, I still have 6 ones on my profile form ppl I force induct, and along those I agreeed to let 2 go, and I trade 1, then I had already promise one I would let him go if he ask and he still did it, after I let him go...sadly none of them where wehlp so the system screwed me but its fair, now I indutc but its harder for them to complain so they do give me rate 1 as a childish revenge and shows how much..maybe they should not even be on, makes me think must be the type who cheats...on games, as for the games well I will be honest its more fair as now the competition is about being the best not cheating the best...I think the games are perfect now and are what they should be, games for enjoyement and pleasure.
change is usually good I dont mind change as long as it is for the better and not for the worse.
Change is good. I know it would cause a lot of controversy, but I think it would be nice, in more than one way.
I honestly think both ways were fun...and both are as fair as they can be....as you can't control someone who tries to cheat.....
Damn long thread eh?Must be the longest one.....When is it getting RIP'ed?Just Curious...
It's an interesting discussion but so long it will probably get RIPd for length
as far as i am concerned 5s can stay off i hated it
i do wish the unrated option would hurry up and get fixed
all the games should be cheat free so we can get our favors but no one can cheat there way to favors
I think that this change has worked for the better everyone is on a level playing field in getting favors for the house/covens now.
hmmm i dont really know because i only been here about a week and a half but i hope did make things better for those who been here for a couple years now
