I don't know if this has been covered in the forum, but I am interested to know if anyone has had an out of body experience and what happened, what did you see? If not you, someone you know?
Last year when I was in the car crash, I saw myself laying in the seat.
I felt like I was pressed right against the ceiling of the van, and saw myself, the driver and all the glass around us broken and the blood I was choking up.
It was only a few seconds, but it scared the crap out of me.
Raven...that is more like your spirit leaving your body as you were close to dying...Out of Body Experience is more like you leave your body on purpose.
I had an out of Body experience when i was 4 years old.. I can still remember it Lucidly.
I was laying in bed, But I think I woke UP... Not sure.. I found myself moving upwards, abve my bed.. up and up and Up towards the ceiling of my bedroom.. THEn I went through the Ceiling.. and up through the Loft, and Out the roof.. I remember looking down by turning my head, I could hear a distant dog barking.. I ould see the Stars in the sky and I could clearly see the Roof top.. I saw the Aerial for the TV and the little red box fixed on to it. I Saw the pattern of the tiles on the roof... Then i started falling back down very slowly.. I looked down as I went back thru the loft I saw my bed.. I couldn't see my body, I came back down to my bed.
Next day I remember telling my Mum.. I described what happened.. she was only half listening, she thought I was dreaming.. THEN I told her what colour the roof tiles were (these cannot be seen by the ground because the roof is FLAT- Don't forget I was ONLY 4 years old) I said they were Brown and wavy, and the aeriel had a red box on it.. and the centre of the roof had a line of tiles along it.. MUM almost dropped the dishes. She turned to me and asked what Else I remember. There is NO way I could know what the roof looks like, or see the aerial.
I was young I told her I think the Fairys Lifted me up.
I can't conclude exactly what happened.. But My recollection and My Mums reaction, Is Priceless!
Thats the kind I am talking about, like when you have a wreck, or your on the hospital bed sick, and you leave your body unintentionally. most cases I have heard of, people experience floating above their body and seeing what is happening below.
Sometimes they will see heaven or a tranquil place or people, or loved ones.
I don't know if this depends on their spiritual beliefs when they see these things and why some see tranquil scenes or their loved ones telling them its not their time yet.
I also saw a case where a woman saw what she called Hell. Fire, brimstone, incredible fear, horror, etc. So I guess not all Out of Body experiences are pleasant.
But all cases have usually changed their lives afterwards.
I was just wondering if anyone has had, or experienced these things. Yes the car crash is an example. It is possible you were close to death in that wreck? I don't know, very interesting though, and thanks for y'alls input.
Very interesting Minx, wow and only 4 yrs old! Thats incredible.
That may have been astral projection or travel, and I don't believe they are the same, but I am very interested in both. I would love to learn more about astral traveling, where you actually see and can go to places in a dreamlike state but you are awake and remember things that are in fact reality somewhere.
Awesome story.
DarkWolfman, they are very similar but not exactly. You can astral travel intentionally OR unintentionally.
I thought out of body experiences happen when you aren't trying, during traumatic type experiences, such as the one about the car wreck or the people that are in surgery and possibly seeing things. Some have described a bright light, sometimes showing them beautiful things that are suppose to be Summerland or Heaven, then telling them its not their time, they have unfinished work still left, etc.
I had a guy that practices magick tell me he can intentionally astral travel and has seen inside places he's never been to, and describe them also. It kind of freaked me out, I was afraid he would come into my home and watch me taking a shower or something. I don't know if it was from watching Psycho years ago, but I do sometimes get a weird feeling when I am taking a shower. Hmmmm lol
I am learning more and more about this and apparently I CAN Lucid Dream, and a friend said i can astral travel, and I Have tried it.. but I was not relaxed enough.
OK I stand to be corrected, the one I was thinking may be called "Near Death Experience".
Out of Body and Astral projecting or traveling MAY in fact be the same thing.
I am still interested in hearing about anyones experiences, whether it is Near Death or Out of Body, or Astral, I find them all intriquing.
I have difficulty relaxing enough too. I have a hard time just trying to meditate. I am constantly worried about something, my mind just jumps to stuff on its on, lol. It's very frustrating!
Oh, and I'd love to learn the Remote Viewing or whatever its called.
Sorry Minx..wasn't responding to what you said.
Out of body experiences can happen in many ways...such as a high fever, accidents,on purpose, and or by mistake.
Minx, it sounds lilke you have a natural ability since you did it when you were 4. I am sure you were much more relaxed and had less on your mind as a child.
I have strange dreams sometimes of places I've never been and see people that I don't know, but I don't think it is the same thing.
I think I was having an out-of-body experience when my mother died. I was crying in the Medics arms but I swear I was floating over my mother as they tried to revive her.
oh wow, that is amazing! I am sorry about your mom hun. Again, that is a traumatic experience so yeah, you prob were.
I think something which can resemble an out of body experience has happened to me 2 or 3 times, at random moments and not on purpose...
Basically, I felt like I was floating above my body and was looking down at myself, totally unattached to whatever I was feeling at the time... just feeling at peace.
Adora, that is cool, kinda like a meditative OOB experience. I wish I could do that! Its cool that you weren't scared and felt at peace.
I am fascinated to find out what it IS that actually leaves the body during an OOB.. is it the Soul?
And the type I had.. Could be AT.. What left my body...? My soul again... or me 3rd eye went for a walk! I have no clue.. Because i don't know.. I feel I can't learn to manage this.
I was able to Thought Associate when i was younger.. Lost it during my 20's. Again, I was not aware THIS was anything 'different'. i just did it...
Astral projection? It only happend to me once.
Ever since I couldn't figure out how it was done...
I have had quite a few Its as if you are floating on air..But also Astrial projection some think is considered an out of body experince..But not sure if what they say is true ..If it is then I am constantly going out of my body..Because I walk the Astrial plains..
i have had some but not without "assistance" so i dont think they count
I had an out of body experience while meditating recently. I saw my body sitting in my meditation spot and saw the room around my body. But was slightly scared by the cold feeling that surrounded the experience so pulled myself back into my body.
i`ve never had one but my friend has wile he was meditating and it sounded cool . he sed that he felt like he was on a cloud watching the earth . and he saw what was wrong whith the world and got really cold. he sed he whould rather see the good of the world next time.
I have never experianced an out of body experiance, nor would I want to.
Minx you bring up a good question, is it our soul/spirit or our 3rd eye, i don't know but always wondered too.
sometimes happens to me that if i´m relaxed, as in meditation, i can leave my body and go to different places... and it is astral projection... i can control it now, at first, it was spontaneous...
I wish I didn't so much to drink tonight or otherwise I may have a clearer view on this subject man I'm wasted.
iv never had one myself but some other members of my fam have either self induced or threw other means all seem to be different for everyone so i guess it may have sumthing to do with the person as to what it is like for them
Well, I didn't see a reason to be scared at the time since I remember I was looking for an escape from the emotions I was experiencing... Something was really getting to me, and having that unattached, floating feeling came as a relief.
What disappoints me is that I have idea how I made it happen or how I can make it happen again... This was about 2 years ago, since then I haven't experienced it... But then again, I haven't even tried to.
It is a real mystery to me how people can manage to leave their bodies on purpose and be aware of everything that's happening to me... It's a meditative state I wish to be able to achieve one day, I suppose it comes with practice...
Question, if it's not the soul that leaves the body, then what could it possibly be?
I think i have had an out of body experience when i was younger..i cant quite remember it but it felt soo real..sumtimes i cant remember if it was such a vivid dream or if it was real.
I have had two of them.... The only thing I ever saw was darkness with a glimpse of me on a bed.... The place was never the same.... I think personally mine have to do with my past lives.....
When I was stabbed in 85 I witnessed all the surgery that was done on me as if I was in an observation booth. They did not think that I would make it through the surgery and at least one advantage I had was I was able to tell them they left some gause in me which when they checked the xray they found that I was right and they had to go back in to remove it. Saved my ass that is for sure. *BOL*
The only out of body experience I ever had was a time my mother had me up against a wall screaming in my face with with her hand around my throat. I blacked out for a second and when I came to I was watching what was happening from a birds eye view, I didn't feel anything but i could see and hear everything
Once at a Powwow, I was standing just behind a drum group. My hand was on my son's shoulder. I was really into the eagle dance that was being performed. Suddenly I felt my spirit start to lift out of my body and begin to float. Almost as suddenly, my mother's white influence on my soul, felt fear. "Where was my spirit going? Would it be safe? Would I embarrass myself?" My spirit immediately returned with a jolt and I found myself standing with my spiritual feet as well as my physical feet planted firmly on the ground. I have never been able to duplicate the experience since, and I have always regretted that I didn't let it just happen.
when I was in juniour high school I was in an accident while riding my bicycle home from school a car hit my bike and sent me flying in the air and I slammed into the ground. As my body laid there I felt myself lift up off the ground and was looking down at my body all at once I felt myself pulled back into my body.I got up and went to a ladies house who was standing outside she let me call my mom and I told her I was okay somehow she knew I had been hurt. The person that hit me gave me a ride home come to find out he was a former police chief and was a real jerk.
when i was 14 i drowned and blacked out and seen a bright like but heard who i thought was my brother saying come back it was werid as hell but it was just the lifeguard which look like him. i dived into 10ft deep water on a stupid dare.
I have had moments where my body would start to float out of my body, but i would always get snapped back in, i honestly do not know if i was dreaming or what, but it was weird while it was happening...
I believe our most frequent astral trips occur while we're sleeping, that's why I believe they get mistaken for dreams. I have always thought that Astral Travel is when our spirits leave our bodies to travel, visit love ones whether alive or departed.
It happens to me when i sleep i see myself and would go places i use to think that they were just very lucid dreams but as i got older i started to remember the feelings i would have as i would go through and fly up into the sky and i would always return to my body and awake feeling strange.
I have never done it..but I do have a friend who does and he is uncanny in what he can see.
i have never had one. I had a bad accident and looking back at it i should be dead, but i am still here. Anyway I dont remember having an out of body experience
I had an OBE when I died on the operating table giving birth to my son. I'm just glad I was able to see it, and that I was allowed to come back. I don't like to talk about it much because it was groteque.
I never had, my mom has though with almost each child birth she has had.
She was even claimed dead once.
Makes me scared to have children, as I know the women on her side are all bleeders and have complicated births. :S Not going to be fun.
i remember when i was about 6 getting to the end of the lunch line, my stomach was really hurting, i double over in pain. I saw myself the cafeteria then everything got smaller like i was moving away then blackness. I woke up later in the main office, someone told me i fainted.
Then when ET first came out i was playing on a drive-in theater playground, i stumbled on a piece of equipment and manage to crack a tooth in half. i the impact happening from above and to the left, but still couldn't find half of my tooth:(
I think its interesting the couple of people who have had OOB experiences whent heywere having babies. I never had anything like that whilst I was in labour but sometimes I see things that are about to happen, is that an OOB experience or ESP or something else?
i've heard that you can appear in two places simultaneously.
When I was about 5 to 15, I used to have horrible dreams about floating up to my cieling while I slept and just staying there with this sea sick motion that drove me nuts. I used to dream I was out on a boat when I slept and I kept getting nausious.
I don't know what to call this one as I did it every night for the duration on my sleep. I felt like I was out of my flesh lying there, but if I was...I'd like to know why on two occasions I hit the floor enormously hard when I woke and one other time my brother swears I was on the ceiling and when he called my name, I fell...hit the bed...and then the floor.
Dream...AP...or levitation?
I've always wanted to try astral projection, but I don't know how. People advise against to, though, saying that sometimes it can be difficult to return to your body.
I've never heard that you can have problems with astral projection- I guess that maybe people who have issues with their bodies or maybe deep other issues you might have problems. Otherwise its like meditation- you can get dizziness if you are shocked out of meditation- but not a lot else really. Not that I know of anyway...
My experiences are related to near death situations that I felt totally removed from my body. It was an eerie feeling of being a spectator and not in control of myself. Perhaps these accounts are considered out of body experiences; they're far from AP but they do possesses an outsider mentality.
I started having them when I went through my early teenage years. You know the years when you do everything wrong and you are constantly being told about it, but don't want to hear it? So I went in my myself and give the blank look until it was all over. Well, what started to happen was I ended up outside by body instead of blanking. I always ended up at the same height, about seven feet high to to the right of by body. I look down and I can clearly see my body looking at the other person doing the lecturing. I never went anywhere at this time. Just up and to the right. When it was over, I went back. Simple as that.
Leaving your body? Come on.. There are a few things that can make you "leave your body." Hallucinogens, which make you have strange hallucinations and can make you think you are seeing yourself from a different angle entirely or that you are looking out on somewhere far away from yourself. Or in your dreams when you are more playacting your own subconscious thoughts, the last thoughts you had before sleep. Or your mind could be breaking down and collapsing on itself and you lose touch with reality, so you "leave your body." I don't believe souls and spirits leave your body and see and experience things.
I have not had an OBE myself, but a few people I know have said they have. They have all said that they can see themselves laying down and it as if they are floating above themselves.
I've had an OBE in my sleep. I can't tell you how it differs from a dream, but I could just tell. I didn't go anywhere fantastic. I just kind of..went out my body and saw around the room.
i had been taking a shower one time..slipped and fell cracking my head open..i didn't realize it was that bad and went to the bedroom and laid down..my wife had alot of trouble tryin to wake me and she called the ambulance to come to the house..while these guys were working to wake me..it was like i was looking down at them..watching them shake me..but it only lasted for a brief few secs..then i woke up..but was out again..this time i was just out.Not sure if that is considered an out of body exp or not..but was freaky as hell.
wow did it almost feel like you could had died and came back..
i get thm all the time after i fall asleep but sometimes i dont c anything or it will come to me as a dream but i dont look like myslef i look like my vampire but there fun alot of the times cuz i get tht weired feeling tht its all real which it is
obe-once one learns how to controll and do this such things as lost of time may occur, personally i find when practicing reaching a heightened conciousness, feelings of being free and losing all fears and on ocassion entering a different realm of existance once my mind has created or realized it i can recall when first having a obe that leaving seemed to feel instant but returning was a bit different feeling was like my spirit being slammed into my body waking me up and being suprised,i find that once an individual does obe it is possible to have auto out of body experiences afterwards which mean they can achiee obe just by laying down and relaxing without the intent to have such a exp. at theat time.
Yes, I have had an outer body experience...
i was in an almost asleep state when I watched myself asleep on the bed..I traveled and visited a friend in another state...I could see her sleeping in her bed.. I woke in the early hours of the morning to a phone call from my friend.. She said she dreamed I had come for a visit...lol When I told her about my experience, she definitely believed me..
a Few times Yes i have had these it was very odd the one time i could hear the doctors working over me saying come on honey come back to us and watching them work seeing myself sleeping was very odd and i thought i was watching a movie then i fel a weird feeling in my chest and all went black next thing i know i was coughing and swingnig my hands at the doctor holding me telling Him to let my ass go
as in astral projection?
yes! many ppl have them! I had mine about a year ago I left my body during mysleep.
i remember a friend of mine told me she was sleeping one night and she saw herself floating over her bed and then she said she went somewhere else far away and i said do you remember where you went ...
I think this has happened to me a couple of times. is it like when you are sleeping and you think you are dreaming a you see yourself sleeping??? cause this has happened to me and i would go and try to turn on a light but cant?
I believe I have at the dentists (lol)
I got extremely relaxed and I couldnt feel my body.. next thing I know I was like floating
I remember being thirteen and being very good at it. After that I stopped and didn't get back into it.
However, i find I am able to do something which could be something like an OBE, though it doesn't feel like one. I have yet to come up with a name for it, but sometimes I can 'watch' something or someone that is somewhere else. Like keeping a psychic eye on another location. Maybe this is a kind of OBE?
I've also heard that OBEs or astral projection can be dangerous as you can become permanently detached form your body, but I'm not sure of the truth of this.
sometimes I do when i am dreaming it feels so real with some of the strange anf stupid things that are always going on but I feel more alive when I wake up in the morning.
ok ive had one wa happened waz i had us fallen asleep and next thing i no i feel like im awake but yet still i have the feelin of bein asleep then i noticed i waz awake and standin in front of mh bed lookin at mahself fast asleep in bed i start to walk out of the room but i cant open the door mah hand goez through the door handle next thing i no i feel a pullin sensation feel a warm bright light and then i woke up
yes i have.... it was after a surgery .. i had lost a lot of blood then my body gave out... i seen my self on the bed with medical staff arond my body working..
I myself have not had the opportunity to experience an OoBe. I have read into reported cases and find it extremely intriguing.
it was a very... unique experience. needless to say it opened my mind to new thoughts and ideas....
yes I have had them while sleeping and i know that it can be accomplished while awake also
I havent had an experiences since I was a kid but it would be intresting to see if it can be done again.
The closest I have come to this is an experience I have had numerous times in my life. It happens on the verge of deep sleep. When it happens I know its about to happen and have had my significant others at times to stand by as I go into this "world" as I call it, and to wake me up if I get too far and can't get out. I have actually had to scream myself out of this realm before when no one was there to wake me. During this time I actually leave my body or have the thought I have left my body and even though I'm asleep I know everything that is going on around me. It's really kind of weird, scary, and cool all at the same time. It kind of leads me to believe this how it begins right after death. You are aware of your surroundings, but you can do nothing about it........Scaaarrrryyyy..........Maybe I should start another forum on this subject.......
i have had that before When I sleep i would see my self , Like you looking down at your self its weird at first but during out of the body experiences you can go any where u want and go through walls but u have to be carefull out there
A while back I suffered from severe depression and tried to commit suicide and after I atempted I had an out of body experience of sorts. It was more peaceful than you'd think.
Umm this is pretty personal but I don't mind sharing. I just hope to not offend. I was raped a few times by an ex. Each time I wanted so badly to be somewhere else. I ended up floating on the ceiling being able to watch what was going on. I detached from the physical life.
I was three, In the States with my mother, Little sister and Auntie.
I was left to play in the ocean..Both my mother and auntie were with my little sister a few feet away...I was walking and jumping in the waves, when I got dragged out and under by the current....I couldn't swim well at all, But I remember suddenly leaving my body and watching myself begin to drown, I was to the left of my body at the time...This lasted only a few seconds...maybe 15-30....when I had a sudden rush as my mother grabbed me and pulled me up.
I remember it so vividly it scares me and I really never knew what it was till a few posts ago about this.
Its the only time its happened...except when I have been out of my body in my dreams reliving past things.
