ok i hope i posted this in the right area, and not making it a rant
ok i have like many others i have read and posted in the forum, when good questions are posted by anyone, i have noticed that many people who claim to be a vampire or a werewolf or a somthing of the supernatural way thats fine and dandy, but when a person brouches a topic about other supernatural possibalites theres a close down on the mind into allowing it to register to them, but they will claim they are somthing human, who here has seen that , what is your opion when you see that, or if you do say no to many ideas of things bing out there why, if you can acept a vampire, why not something else?
I actually was wondering that myself. If vampires are real, who is to say that there is not some other beast, creature out there.
The werewolf for example..there are more written records of the werewolf then there are vampires.
I truely do not think that one rules over the other or that they do not exist. I love the idea of a vampire, I truly do. But rising from the dead is not truly possible.
I think that native americans and such a long time ago were actually able to shift.
A werewolf actually won the oympic boxing championship in 400 BC
A full time line of the werewolf This is were I found it
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arcade/4626/timeline.html
there is nothing in this world that isnt possibel
I myself am a lycan and have seen things in this world that nobody beleave so yes everything is possebel
the time line was actually taken out of a book. the history of werewolves.
Lycan is a term that came from the movies and books...it is short for Lycanthropy...which is a disease a chemical imbalance of the brain.So...you are not a Lycan...maybe a Lycanthrope...which is a term for someone who "thinks" they are a werewolf.
A more modern term now adays is known as a therian. Some one who gets "Shifty" and has the spirit of wolf, bear, cat, whatever but they cannot change form
ok i think we are getting off basie with the subject and dont want to get closed down, but what are people opions about the forum stated?
just as there is vampirerave , there is one for were's werenation.com
There are many things that we cannot explaine. Yet often there are explinations for many of the things we think are mystical. Yet how can we deny they could have existed. One cannot say yes to one myth and no to another. with magick and supernatural beings one must keep an open mind.
It's just a matter of personal perception and opinion. One person may be able to think it possible to rise from the dead and still feel that shifting into a different creature is far-fetched. It's their opinion and we should let them think what they want. A little close-mindedness about the subject shouldn't cause much harm.......however, starting actual fights about it is unneccesary.
Hope that helped.
its best to keep an open mind at all time, on a world we have hardly scratched the surface on how can we judge what is real and what isn'tm as a collective we still have issues proving anypone of us is real let alone raraties
I'm open to alot of possiblilities, whether they are true or not still remains to be "seen".
more then tha fact of is there other kinds the thing i dont like are the people that are posers to things if you are real then cool if you are a wanabe then cool but dont say you are if you are not poeple nead to atleast be onist enough to not tell people they are what they are not ........... as for the fact of are they real supernatural things out there i would have to say yes cuz all mythes come for some sourt of fact but i have yet to meat a real anything other then my self and i dont even know what i am other then i can do things i cant even explain
well I dont mind people saying that they are vampires or somthing...but what I find annoying are the people that take it one step too far and say they are demon slayers or an angel...and they know they are lying because you catch them out but yet they still clame to be it.
just thought i would have my say
The argument of these other supernatural/metaphysical creatures and spirits, seems to come down to this:
Do we not see supernatural things that much anymore because we've learned that there was a scientific explanation and this broadened our view to see the other 'real' possibilities besides ghosts and faeries and goblins?
Or did we focus so much on science that we have narrowed our 'vision' and can no longer see outside it to the real supernatural things that have always been there but are now quite invisible to our scientifically blinded eyes.
*bumping this back up* I would like to see if anyone one else has an idea. This topic is a good one, in my opinion.
I do beleive in some creatures that would make me look like in need of medical help, sometimes I rather not speak to be on the safe side
Though I would give this an airing on the main forum.....
What are otherkin ?
It seems there are as many answeres to that question as there are folk who ask.
I have had a great time exploring on other sites etc and have found that trying to find a consensus among otherkin is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
So, vampire, wolf, dragon, fairy, incubi, demon, phoenix, unicorn, merfolk, walk-ins, and pretty well any other life form you may of heard of in or out of mythology may be called otherkin.
What are they ?
Again answers abound according to who you listen to and what you read.
Some say they are Archetypes ( look it up I had to )
I think they may well be archetypes.
However there are those who think that the oversoul ( consider a puppet master working many puppets )
uses otherkin on other dimensions as well as this one as a way to increase knowledge through experience.
Why do they operate in the 3rd dimension, the human domain ?
It is thought that this will enable certain people to accomplish their tasks on planet earth with greater ease or to finish off an experience that was perhaps cut short on another dimension.
Sometimes otherkin are present from birth and sometimes they make themselves known much later, some even find a soul who is willing to accomodate them even if not directly part of the oversoul.
How do I know I have otherkin ?
Symbols/signs/portents are notoriusly difficult to understand for most of us ( myself included ).
Sadly many forms of mental illness go hand in hand with otherkin.
So are they real ?
That is for every one of us to decide as indivduals. Not for nothing are we told 'know thyself '.
As I said when first I joined this site, my belief or not in anothers reality, does not change that persons reality one iota.....so the question ' do I believe in them ' is made redundant.
Well thats my take on it so far x
I really don't know what I am..I think i'm a hermit..haha
I'm finding it a bit hard to read what you are actually asking here- could you possibly put your question into 1-2 sentences? You have just lost me...
I think that weredolphines would be cool!!! Just kidding, anyway, the possibility exists that the reason why a thread or discussion gets killed is b/c it does not fit into the theme or is not well stated (SEE DOMINARS I AM LEARNING...). So if the topic is 'on point' and relevant (THINK GOOGLE) then it will prolly stand. BUT, and it is a big one, this site is subjective. Like I really believe anyone on this site is a 'real' vampire...pffft! So, that is my .02
Seeing as I dont believe in vampires, people who call themselves such I just go along with it. As for other "supernatural" things, if I infact believed in vampires or anything other you might throw at me, I would believe in anything else as well. If you supply me proof, then I'll believe it.
Hi ,
I'm a Human on the outside, and a alien on the inside! I like to take long walks on the edge of the saturn rings and consume gallons of Oil. My two closest friends include a Super inhumane Monkee with an murderous attitude who calls me futz and a 18 Inch Cat with two legs it claims were burned off back in the witching trials of 1807.
lmao
I personally don't believe in anything other than what I know to be Factual and leave it at that, you can tell me you see ghosts, and you talk to dead people and I'm the anti christ yada yada...But until you provide actual evidence I refuse to believe.
Belief is totally subjective unless we're talking about something like gravity or 'do bullets kill?' There's no arguing with some facts of nature or reality.
But if you believe in the fey or ghost or invisible sky wizards that made humanity and forgive all our sins, then you are only bound by your own belief. Science bends to your will, and history is like a puzzle to put together how you wish. Myths and legends can be just that (stories) or they can be the foundation of a religion. Finally, few people with faith ever have their mind changed by others skepticism or even facts.
I wish I could comment on this but honestly I have no idea why.
Biologically, I don't think the human skeleton and muscles could withstand the shift into animal form.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not discounting the possibility of Weres. I just admit to being a bit hazy on the whole thing. I always thought that to be a lycan meant taking on the personality traits of your animal, possibly certain physical characteristics such as eye colour or excess body hair, or even being able to astrally project yourself as the animal. That, to me, is perfectly viable.
But for a human to physically metamorphose into an animal? I just can't get my head round that!
Well, a lot of people who call themselves vampires are not referring to those that rise from the dead. Psy-vamps for example. The fact is that these people claim to have supernatural/psychic powers, and the supernatural is not all that far-fetched. People are working every day to find definitive proof of the energies around us and those with the abilities to manipulate them.
What is a great deal harder to believe is that when the moon is full (or whenever) someone's genetic structure changes entirely, causing DNA from a completely unrelated animal to suffuse that person so that they literally transform. Aside from the scientific impossibility of this act, there have also been many documented cases of people thinking they have transformed while under observation, when all that has happened is that they have become more animalistic, taking on the personal characteristics of the creature. The technical word for this? Crazy. Or lycanthropy. Whichever you choose.
And finally, one good reason why people might agree with 'real' vampires but not anything else, is that they are people who claim to be vampires themselves. After all, it's easier to keep up the farce if other people are doing it too.
But all this talk of genetics and bone structure misses the point. Should anyone wish to believe that a metaphysical or mystical transformation were possible, it shouldn't have to follow natural laws. In the same way that faeries couldn't be intelligent because their brains are too small or that a troll or giant would crush their own bones with their body weight and mass...the answer is always as simple as belief in the mystic or magical. A werewolf changes from man to wolf, not because of some genetic transferance but because it's a curse and magic and its power bends or breaks the very laws of nature...if you believe that sort of thing ;)
I believe that there is a possibility for everything and anything.
Vampires. lycans. gnomes. i hate gnomes those are nasty lil creatures. leperchans. fairys. I mean i Believe in it all. For one it's fun. I mean what's life with out the possibility of everything in it. and the wonder if one day u may be lucky enough to spot it.
For a vampire I am.
tHe hollywood scene vamp no I am not.
I feed. I live. I have powers persay.
But I am human.
and A true vampire knows that they are human.
Humanity is more then just a being.
Humanity is the world.
and everything in it
This site, to me, is about different people, and beings and such. I agree that there are people who are quick to judge or bring about their opinion when it doesnt necassarily have anything to do with the actual topic being discussed.
Being on VR, you have to be opened minded and tolerant of people and who they want to be or are.
The soul is eternal only the shell is finite and perishable. Eternal is very close to infinite.
With the infinite all things are possible
**KelsiexXxChaos** You just confused the snot right out of me...I understand the dream, I do, but reality is that unless there is some physical imperical proof, it is just that a dream. Albeit a nice one. Kinda like peter pan or the lostboys in never never land.
**FelixFelix** I agree to a point. Dinosaurs were pretty big so the crush under its own mass might be a stretch. But essentially you have it, because people want to believe. Almost anything is possible to those that believe. Don't kill me over this but if you watched Bridge to Tarabithia (sp?) what the saw was not real. In thier heads it was because they believed, but the girl dies in real life. No matter how much the little boy wanted to bring her back, he couldn't because in reality it just isn't possible for us running on out own power of belief. It has to be coupled with something devine. But that is a different thread altogether.
Maximus - what is the divine except belief in a fairy or wizard of really really really enormous proportions?
Religion is just belief like magic is just belief like fairies and elves and ogres are just belief. There's very little if any proof for all of it.
I suppose you are right after all. I think, though, the experience is what sets somethings apart. Ialso suppose that delusion is an experience too. I was reading another thread about the mothman and it was said that mass psychosis was the instigator of the myth/legend. If you think you saw it then in your mind you did, whether is is visable or not to another.
Interesting...If everyone was open-minded I think the world would be a better place!!
I accept spirits, which accounts for most of the aforesaid entities.
For everything unknown there is the possibility that it exists, every day something new is being discovered that was never thought to exist. If discoveries are made in cryptozoological circles of things just coming to light, and it isn't that they were actually hiding, but rather outside of the possibility of even existing in a particular area, then why shouldn't the possibility of sub-genre of human exist that has been around for centuries exist right in front of our faces.
If we believe in vampires and witches and ghosts and gosh knows what else....why not werewolfs. We are no different than the humans. They dont believe that we are here ...but none the less...we are are all talking to one another.
If you believe in one supernatural being, why not another? If vampires exist, why not werewolves, ghosts, witches, demons, and the like? It makes no sense to me to believe in one supernatural creature and say that no others can exist. Although, that is just my opinion.
I have noticed this, I thought I was the only one who thought so.
CryingMoon I do totally agree with you. You get people out there on vr who believe in vampires, but mention aliens, werewolves, shape changers, fairies, pixies, dragons, heck even magick... and they discount it and want proof.
It is very arrogant and closed minded. And considering many people on vr complain about 'humans' being arrogant closed minded and overly fearful, I think they should look in the mirror before they go casting stones.
The universe is a wonderfully mysterious place. There are worlds we haven't even considered or touched on, and to discount anything is a serious misdemeanor in my books.
I believe that there is a possibility that everything exists.
Maximus...you expect me to believe someone confused the snot right of you ? Now that's stretching it even for me lol
It would be good to read some actual experiences rather than yes or no, perhaps people have these in their journals ?
im so glade that im not the only one who has thought this
Yes, occasionally the snot falls right out. As my daughter would say...ewwww, dad!
Anyway, thinking on something someone wisely said here. They are finding things all the time that were suspected as having not existed anymore or ever did. One issue that is interesting, to me at least, is whether something actualy "supernatural" or not. If it exists in nature does that not mean that it is in fact "natural" after all?
I believe in all things that can be possible at all without breaking the laws of the universe, magickal or otherwise.
something is real only as long as it is beleived in(read the quabbalah lol)
About 75% of those who say they are real vampires are either whelps, catiffs, phantom so on......These are people who just came in to this site and they feel like playing the role of a vampire since the whole theme of this site is so.I dont think it as a bad or disturbing thing. When i came here first i enjoyed reading people's profiles who wrote about them being vampires and werewolves and all,i still enjoy them.Thats what makes this site intersting.....
However there is something like too much of a good thing wont turn out good...
well what i have always wondered do they exist and why is there such big deal about it theres lots of things that cant be explained im just curious is all
After seeing some of things I have seen in my life, hunni...I am open for anything. To me anything is possible, a closed mine and heart..ceases to live.
M'Lady WinterRogue. Did you just suggest a Vampire go look in a mirror.lol
In all honesty I agree with you Felixs and Maximus. And torward Felix. We have used science to explain many of the mysteries that once were considered Monsters.
-Dragon Bones of Asia being Dinosaurs-
-Giant Bones from Rome being Mammoths-
-Griffins from Protoceritpos Skeletons-
To name but a few. Yet Science does cloud and narow our view. Mystism and Supernatural creatures are the things that have enspired and motivated some of the greatest minds in history. Without such ideas be they what one calls real or not. We would all be in a lot duller world.
Reminds me of an old Johnny Depp movie. Don Quan De Marco.
With infanite energy and will, there can only also be infanite possibities...
The possiblities of weres is a very true possiblility..the option of shifting..well thats iffy. Changing fully is not possible but there is sudel (sp) diffrences in appearences during diffrent stages of the moon, depending on the species.
I try to keep an open mind to a lot of things, their are some things that i dont believe in but i usually believe in something until it is proven wrong, otherwise i just try to keep an open mind about it...
There is nothing wrong with questioning the existance of the unknown or the known for the matter. As a rule of thumb, questions never hinder knowledge. To be a skeptic about vamps, lycans, faries, aliens, bigfoot, atlantis is the only way for us to find concret evidence.
most 'humans' tend to think that people who believe in 'mythical' things being real, are crazy in one way or another...I myself believe in all things 'mythical' and everything related to it!
this is just like a debate that we had to do at school - the topic of whether or not aliens existed - nobody knows for certain but we cant be the only living form in the universe. so i always leave an open mind about other life forms.
I am very open minded to any possibility even though I do not claim to be anything but human I do not judge people for who or what they are or claim to be. To answer your question though yes I have seen this happen on VR and elsewhere as well.
everything is real if you believe in it, and nothing is real if you don't...333
My opinion is this, is that this site or possibly many others advertises what is acceptable to believe in. Such as the existance of vampyres, werewolves, and possibly other creatures. Things that are based in form.
When you throw in things that are more of a spiritual sense, you do see shut down...just because everyone has their own twists to that. It's like having a different religion.
Yes I've seen that happen a few times.
I personally try to have an open mind when it comes to other peoples beliefs and opinions.
If they dont exist then why do so many of us enjoy rare meat when its cooked?
I thought that that would make sense because that is something that has been in my mind for many years.
You have a point.
There are far too many people out there who solely believe in vampires, or one supernatural being. There are some things that yes, are way too far fetched to actually believe, but some things deserve some recognizion for the truth they have.
Someone I know recently pointed out to me that there are too many sides of us for us to be aware of them, or understand them all at once, and I feel that it is very relevant to this topic... we see ourselves as multifaceted, and I think thats one of the most confusing and intruiging things about human nature, and maybe we shoudl learn to embrace that more...
This is a very confusing thread, so please excuse me if I ignore many of the comments already posted and answer the original question as I understand it.
A lot of people will accept vampires on this site.
Unfortunately the meaning of the word 'vampire' has many many meanings to people on this highly specialised site.
To some it means someone who is a character out of role-playing game, to others it someone who follows a lifestyle that they feel is vampiric, to others it is a Hollywood type creature ... to me it is the creatures of folklore and myth ... to a few it is a Russian Orthodox priest and to some it is a bat that feeds mostly on cattle blood in South America
So it would depend on what a person believes a vampire to be, to see if they should believe in supernatural creatures generally - with this in mind it would be wrong to say ' if you believe in vampires you must believe in .... '
Personally I accept vampires simply as creatures of folklore and myth. I also accept that people now use the term vampire to describe a lifestyle - this does not make me believe in all 'supernatural' creatures or accept that they existed
Clear as mud huh
you'll never know with the world we live in, everything's possible
I don't believe any of the supernatural is real. I get flack for it here, but hey, so far all the proof is in my court.
Anything is possible i myself am a vampiress and i have some friends who are different i have lycan friends as well and wiccan and more so everything is possible and is
I think a lot of people who say they are a vampire know that they really are not, and when you start a conversation with them - what they really feel about things come out, if someone told me that they were a vampire then turned around and said they did not believe in magick, i would think their was something wrong with that person...
You wouldn't think there was something wrong with them for just claiming to be a vampire?
I agree with some of you, which confirms for me that once again this is a subject of personal choice. I believe in the Supernatural and believe that science discards the idea of Supernatural existance because they cannot explain it. Vampire's to me are a myth, however to some it is a lifestyle and I can respect that. I think the minute we start to say it is impossible we start to take that seat of judgement like so many people in religion take. Not to talk against religion I myself am spiritual. People talk and carry themselves as they wish other's to percieve them whether or not they are who they claim to be is personal choice because if we say you are wrong to beleive in this or that then we are saying you are choosing the wrong religion. Does anyone understand what I'm trying to say.
An oen mind is always desirable. I never like to judge another or limit a person in any way. There are many possibilities beside our view of Vampirism.
This forum question exemplifies the problem with the inevitable "slippery-slope" thinking that results when people are willing to believe almost anything with no requirement for any evidence whatsoever. Eventually, such ignoring of even the most basic principles of rational thought and the Scientific Method is going to make any claim whatsoever seem just as reasonable and *shudder* believable.
Thus, if evidence-less belief in "undead" blood-sucking "vampires" and actual "werewolves" are considered completely acceptable, then so also must be equally fact-less beliefs in anything and everything else the Human imagination can concoct.
Were such complete abandonment of Logic to gain societal prominence, then we will have descended once again into the Dark Ages of history when superstitions had us scared of every imaginable supernatural beastie and hobgoblin, making us easy prey to any religious fanatic seeking to usurp power and authority to "rid" us of such absurd fears. And when that happens, the witch trials and "burning times" of the Holy Inquisition are but a breathe away.
Take care, therefore, just how far you desire to take such advocacy of factless beliefs and evidence-absent superstitions.
If people go so far as to truly believe in Vampires, why not another creature. Who's to say for sure what exists and what does not. There are a lot of contradictions out there.
While we may not be able to say "for sure what exists," yet healthy scientific skepticism requires that at least some empirical evidence exist to support any calim as outrageous and outlandish as fictional vampires and/or werewolves, et al. And until such time as such evidence is discovered, any person with at least two functioning braincells is not going to find it rational to believe in any such... much less jump to the truly insane conclusion that believing in anything or everything else imaginable is somehow made justifiable.
And, yes, I am well aware that such a statement of Logic will not be well received here where most find it desirable to both adorate and, where possible, emulate such purely fictitious characters... just as "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" fanatics turn homicidal if anyone dares to question the reality of Han Solo, wookies, and Captain Kirk.
What can I say to any and all such but what William Shatner likewise rejoined on that memorable SNL occasion: "Get a LIFE, will you people?"
Okay... let the fanatic rants begin. If needed, I'll be the lone guy sitting in the corner where Logic still prevails against the ever-increasing hordes of superstition-driven zealots.
;)
Well I believe anything is possible. I always found vampires fasinating and I do believe I have seen a vampire in my life. As for other creatures of the night or so called myths, I believe their are some truth out of it.
UpirLikhyj
You are not alone.
I will stand by your logic as it's the same as I use.
Belief without evidence is fantasy.
Scatterspell,
Great to know I'm not the only one... thanx!
Ain't it telling that there are far fewer of us with feet firmly planted on the ground than those claiming to be purely fictitious vampires? ;)
So very true but here is a question for you........
If a tree falls in the woods, and there is no one around to hear it, does it make a sound??
There is a certain amount of belief in all things. Even if you don't agree with something, that does not make you right, or wrong.... It is yet, just another point of view....
Personally, I roll my eyes at anyone who claims to be a supernatural anything. Granted, I'll not say anything, because people are entitled to believe what they want to, as long as they aren't hurting anyone else, but I would definitely not get into discussions with them about their pet theories, because I can be pretty cutting when I'm approached with something I consider nonsense, and that could start drama, and drama is baaaaaad.
