My statement is this: Some religions state that life is in the blood (or something to the affect).

My question is this: Does that blood have to be human? I understand that animals do not have souls (or so my religion teaches with the absence of animals in heaven) so I assume that the power of the magic comes from something else. So is it the spirit in the blood (like star wars midicloreans, sort of) or ....what?

The second part of the question is about sex. Can sex be used to bolster a spell? Is it link to or separate from spell creation?

I do not think that the blood only has to be human but can also come from animals as well...
And yes sex can bolster a spell.. More so when you are doing sex magic.. The energy within two beings who are being sexual is amazing and when you add magic to the mist it just enhances everything around them and it can truly be an amazing event..

If you are christian, like me then I think that animals will have a place in heaven.The Bible tells that(see the first book,Genesis).The animals don`t have spirit but they have a soul.The blood of animals was used in the offerings and sacrifices to God.

I don't know. I've met a fair few horses with a spirited nature - but yes animals would qualify as a blood sacrifice as the ancient Hebrews often slaughtered cattle for that purpose. They also did such as a cleansing ritual after battle - odd though it is.

As for using sex - I'm not sure if it was Crowley who taught this or if he was just a fond follower of the idea but he suggested that orgasm was the best time to cast a spell. There is actually a very good and physiological reason for it which I am incorporating in a journal entry that I will post later this month.

some christian cults - such as catholicism for instance - state that animals have no soul, but they are wrong, so you can forget that. anyway, if you are christian, you shouldnt be doing any magic, as this is against their ethos.

Now for one of two reasons I ask. Magic is a matter of will, or so I have read here and other places (books other forums for black arts).

First, in my religion, faith is required to do anything. I think this is akin to will. Even Jesus could perform no miracles in his home town for lack of faith in his ability because he was the 'carpenters son'. So I want to find of there is a connection somehow.

Secondly, as was stated here already, sex at consumation is being connected to the unity of the creator. I want to see if this is related to the will in some way.

I think that I am on the cusp of a revelation of sorts. And I appreciate the replies already.

Forgot to add that I think the blood is linked somehow to the spirit or life still in the blood that is taken fresh from a living being. I am not certain but I think that because humans are a higher lifeform that the lifeforce in the blood is stronger than animals, that was the only reason I even mentioned them.

Animal Spirit is just as strong as any humans. I know this personally. As a Totemist I believe that not only animals have Spirits but Work Magick as well. Magick exists in all things. I'm not a believer in blood being the source of anything beyond the physical...you know...red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, oxygen, etc. If we talk about pranic energy, then my understanding is that it doesn't follow the circulatory system and therefore isn't bound to the blood.

I think it's the action involved in blood that can give it energy. So the act of cutting or the act of using blood in ritual (i.e. cutting your self, the focal power of blood as a strong imagery) is what gives it the power in the ritual. Much the same as I feel that the endorphines and adrenaline boosting energy in taking from a donor or giving to a sang, is likely the energy that's being fed off of.

It's interesting that you coupled this with sex magic because so often, sangs seem to have a sexual attraction to their donors. Sex raises those same energies even further by getting the endorphines and adrenaline on high, increasing heart rate, boosting phermones, etc. So all that would increase a sense of the mystic and focus and push ritual farther...so long as everyone involved is in the right mindset. End result, I think sex magic could boost the force of ritual if done right (which is to say not like a Cinemax late night movie version of ritual)

The blood yes can be animal or human. I read an essay recently that the ideal blood of choice would be a woman's menstrual blood. It was an interesting theory in that menstrual blood serves but one purpose...to nurture a potential human life. What could possibly be more powerful than that? So, if I surmise correctly, some say yes and others no. Some believe that blood (possibly in a coital embrace) is essential to affect an event. While the others say no, that it is some other ethreal force of will alone and no blood is necessary.

Could it be that both answers hold a certain merit? Depending on ones belief, the tool of the will alone exercised with the intent to take life (blood or otherwise) is merely a catalyst or focus of that will? Felix said this I think, I am inclined to think he may be correct for lesser magics (no offense felix) and that the blood and/or sex hightens the capability of the event to happen as planned. Not necessarily because it holds actual power, but that the belief of power is there. So it actually enhances the faith or will to make the event reality. Thus, the practicioner, believing himself/herself to beusing a higher order of magic, would be capable of greater feats than one who only used will to cause an effect of who believed the same thing.

Psh. of courese animals have souls, or using them as sacrifices wouldn't work. Their souls just aren't worth as 'much' to our various deities. And anything can be used to power a spell, provided it is channeled correctly before, during, and after the ritual.

i truely beleave as the native americans beleave...that animals do have spirits. they use to pray to the great spirit when the would kill prey... some ask the spirit of the animal premission before killing it. and they eat the liver of the fallen animal to take on its spirit and give thanks for its sacrifice.

and as sex, some people beleave the energy that is passed dureing sex brings them closer together and inturn closer to thier heavenly spirit.

Sex magick orgasms will be intense. Stay together until you both come down, holding each other close. This is a very intense experience and not one I would with just anyone.

Blood has been used for a long time when man was not so overpopulated and regarded the ultimate sacrifice so as to speak … the Wicca man being one im used too and no nothing to do with that crazy new 50 year old religion wicca.

Sex also has a lot of power as we populate that way and once again before over populating it was important to breed lots as mortality rates were very high.

If you want to try animal blood you can pop over to any slaughter house and collect as much as you want still steaming on a cold winter morning.

The more powerful a spirit you try to summon, the stronger of blood must be used, for small spirits, or weak ones, even birds will do. But if you are attempting to summon Belial himself, you need a lot of human blood, and possibly many lives to be taken, which isn't feasible in this day and age. As far as sex magick, I'm not that studied on that subject.

Blood is the essence of life, therefore holds a lot of energy. As does sex. Some magics need energy as a sort of fuel.

In all of the rituals of past, it is mostly animal's blood that you see, or rather read, in ancient texts and such. the life that is contained within the blood is comparible to the energy radiated during sex. There are several other emotions and doings that produce a lot of energy that can be used in magick and other ritualistic processes too. Each spell or ritual, depending on religion, that all require a different kind of energy for each one to be "powered" correctly so that the spell/ritual will be used correctly. Sex can be ritual in itself. It can be linked to spellcasting or it can be its own energy, which you then use for whatever you need.

I think you can use animal blood but saying that, using your own blood is more powerful. Sex during a ritual can boost the magick powerfully because your giving more energy into it.

I haven't tried either blood or sex magick, but I hope to some day. Currently, I'm respecting my husband's wishes and not cutting myself (I used to do so when I was upset, but it put me almost in a trance, where there were no distractions and my mind was blank, which is a big deal for me, since my mind is always racing and I have a hard time concentrating...this makes me think that blood magick would be very effective for me personally).

Blood is blood--it's all connected to the energy of the universe. For the most part, I think it doesn't matter if it's animal or human--you are sacrificing something's life energy for your rirtual.

That said, it's going to be more powerful if you use your own blood, showing how badly you want something that you're willing to sacrifice part of your own life force...

And the whole menstrual blood thing is true, for reasons already stated. (Though I've heard of someone using blood from an animal in heat, too...)

blood is very powerful i have found that it is very powerful in all my rituals but i have only used my own blood, i have never used the blood of an animal i believe that my blood works better. i have heard of sex magic being very powerful but haven't tried it myself yet.

I'm guessing there is a bit of a difference, chemically. Sexual contact tends to produce neurotoxins and hormones in your body which enable you to trust and open yourself more than if you were to take matters into your own hand, if you will. Where you may reach the necessary orgasm that is vital to this type of magic, I doubt you would obtain the proper effects.
