So I see alot of threads here that I dont quite understand why they are here and it started a question in my own head..
What do you think is Supernatural and what do you think is human kind making too much out of things that just are not there???
Well a lot of threads about the supernatural are in fact debates on that very subject that you bring up.
Is it real? Or did someone fake it...Those questions are probably the biggest reason why the supernatural subject is so popular. We don't know.
Yeah I get that.. Mean like there is a post on here about a horrible murder and the desecration of a womans body and some one is trying to pass it off as being paranormal / supernatural.
I dont see a connection there or why we have a thread open even to contemplate it..
If they wanted to talk about murders and serial killers then why not start a thread on that and not try and make it more then it is.
Supernatural generally means things that can not be explianed... and while others call it supernatural others still call them acts of God depending on what is it. I guess it would depend on who you ask.
Ahhh I see. Maybe people are running out of things to talk about and don't want to bother doing some research into more supernatural stories to bring up here for a debate?
Feh, I don't know really...
It reminds me of years and years ago when anything could be tied to the supernatural.
Birthmarks could mean you were touched by Satan, a cat leaving a dead mouse on your doorstep means the Devil is after you...Who the hell knows. People make up a lot of things, sometimes it causes a lot of trouble.
What are some other moments in history that have been screwed over by people claiming it is something supernatural?
I think when it comes down to it there really isn't much to life so we make crap up to entertain ourselves.
because paranormal / supernatural are all those things that the reason can't find an explanation to... so in many cases, when we can't imagine the reasoning for a human being to do something we may think that maybe that person was possessed, for example... paranormal / supernatural is always part of our human condition. and the fact that we're trying to explain something that our reason can't.

Yes we understand what supernatural means...
Correct me if I'm wrong...this is more about, why do so many stories get twisted around so they have a supernatural edge to them?
And how many times throughout history has that happened?
TheDarkwolf, you need to be careful of cutting and pasting without an explanation in your own words on what you have just posted as it is in violation of posting rules in the forum and could get you suspended for 3 days. Just a friendly reminder is all! lol
I think in part, the thread about the grisly murder and cannabalism is trying to put a very bizarre act into some kind of acceptable context.
If we can make ourselves believe that things like that happen because of supernatural events, such as a demonic possession of the murderer, we rest a little easier in the belief that human beings by themselves could not act that ghoulishly. It's a very frightening thought that humans can indeed, do those kinds of things to each other.
The supernatural is way to explain away uncomfortable or unexplainable events.
However, that is not to say that there is no such thing as the supernatural!
woot very awesome thread opener for you.my castle bartender
I would state that its in the upbringing of each person into how they respond and think upon this topic. If more parents were at least open to introduce the history of these topics it would not get as warped as it does.
i think there are times when things are taken as supernatural because people make more out of something that what is really there, but there are things that cant be explained so there for i would consider that to be supernatural, ex. say a cupboard door that opens by itself that in no way could just fall open. but like i said that is my opinion
personally I think supernatural is something that seems to be coming from some other place not known by todays science. Or powers that are beyond human understanding. I do agree that some things that are just weird people do try to pass off as being supernatural.
I agree with you Bathory Babe... most of the time we face things that we can't explain using science... or reasoning about it... that's when the ones who believe in supernatural/paranormal activity (like me) think that the event or situation may have another explanation...
There is always the possibility that even some simple things that we can't explain are supernatural and I have seen to much to not believe that there are supernatural or paranormal things out there.
I think there are a lot of things that the human mind takes out of context but... being that we are human and can think about what is going on, there in lies our biggest problem..... if we were animal we would only have the basic concern for survival, food/water and shelter.... we would only think of what was out to get us...
I believe there is more to this world than meets the eye! I think the debates help us to decide whether we are going to be receptive to it or not... most of us choose to look for it cause we don't anything about it... and like another person posted earlier... that's why it is supernatural....
Supernatural pretty much means anything our current science cannot completely explain beyond a reasonable doubt.
Sorry, but
Supernatural pretty much means anything our current science cannot completely explain beyond a reasonable doubt.
well, that's nonsense.
I probably could fill this forum with examples of my own profession where at a certain point in time things would have been to be considered supernatural by that definition. Things that where know not to be.
You'd have to rule out any possibility of being able to find an explanation before you can even consider the usage of terms like para- or supernatural.
The operative word here is any possibility. Not just those that you know about.
LOL, Well I see at least a few of you got what I was saying.. I just dont get why people take things out of context and dont ether ask what they mean or make some thing out of nothing..
I believe in the supernatural but alot people dont be cause of what out there
MistressBloodDiamonds, I believe the answer to the question "why people take things out of context and dont ether ask what they mean or make some thing out of nothing" as related to the VR forum is as simple as they are hoping to somehow connect their forum discussion to the supernatural or paranormal so that it may possibly squeek by admin and count towards their forum posts. Luckily though, the admin here typically see it for what it is and take care of it.
And to answer the question outside of VR, I guess people are trying to slap an explanation on something that they have no other way to explain.
cut/paste is not a bad thing. its when we forget to quote the cite or author , from where we took the information. otherwise it is plagiarism, punishable by law.
I believe that a lot of supernatural claims are actually human stupidity. People hear noises in the forest at night, they call it monsters before they even stop to realize there are nocturnal animals foraging for food, building their homes, etc. I think a LOT of things have simple scientific and proven solutions yet some claim 'Oh thats so wierd, it must be a ghost' or whatever they're wanting to see that day.
The Salem Witch Trials is a prime example of this.
The Puritans, at the time, either couldn't tell that the girls accusing witches to their death were faking or indeed WANTED to believe in something supernatural... just to prove that the supernatural did exist.
I'm not exactly sure if I'm making my point clear, so let me elaborate.
People, in general, always want to believe that there is more. We dream big, and we find fantasy in reality. However, being the dreamers that we are as a people, we sometimes confuse the fantasy with reallity.
But how often does this happen?
Who is to say that there was no fantasy involved, just pure reality?
And if you see fantasy as reality, does it remain fantasy? After all, isn't it a matter of perception?
This is a question that truly leads to more questions, as opposed to answers.
i agree with lady patricia on this one , there is a lot of things that make us seem to think everything is supernatural but the Salem witch trials helped start it well the mallieus malificorm did but still
i agree with what LadyDarkRayne wrote it to me it all depends on what the person believes in if he or she believes in the supernatural then anything that happens strange then it's going to be called supernatural the same thing goes for someone that believes in religion there going to say it was god sended.
anything mystical , magical, undead , etheral , asteral . I think that all of the above are supernatural .
i believe in the supernatural because after my dad died i saw him alot and i still do and NOT in my dreams
The supernatural does exist. But somethings that cant be explained will be passed off as supernatural
i agree with blackhawk, the unexplainable is passed off as supernatural.
I think most things that aren't well understood are called supernatural. Yet over time, we seem to find scientific explainations for many things once called supernatural.
WOW!!! i was thinkn the exact same thing but i didnt post nothin but i think that our society thinks of the supernatural as things that r unexplainable.
supernatural is something that could be humanly possible if it was dumbed down a bit. hence the super.
they lable it supernatural because they can't quite put there finger on what they are experenceing and it isn't in the norm of what the would normally see in the world like lightning for instance in the beginning they thought that was supernatural because they could not explain how or why it happens and this statement goes for everything science doesn't truely grasp or know the meaning of ...
I was hoping to get actual examples not just round about definitions of.
Thank you all for your contributions so far.
they call it supernatural because i think there scared to admit that it was done by a human being, so they call it "supernatural" maybe to feel safer... who knows?
en.wikipedia
The term supernatural (Latin: super "above" + natura "nature") pertains to entities, events or powers regarded as beyond nature, in that they cannot be explained by the laws of the natural world. Religious miracles are typical of such “supernatural” claims, as are spells and curses, divination, the notion that there is an afterlife for the dead, and innumerable others. Supernatural themes are often associated with magical and occult idea
I could not resist. Would someone please define "reality" for me.
i think supernatural is something we just cant explain.many years back people thaught epilepsy was the work of the devil because people just didnt understand it
I think that Wikipedia explain's it best, thanks PLZ.
Another thing to think about is that in many play's by Shakespeare there are character's of a supernatural nature.
Does anyone think that he would of gotten the same respect if he wrote those plays now instead of then?
It seems to me that the supernatural nowadays does not get the same respect as it did back then, when there wasn't always a scientific explanation for everything.
thats hard to answer. alot of things that people claim to be supernatural is just a hoax. its sometimeshard to differenciate. i guess supernatural is qualified as anything out of the ordinary, that you believe to be fact.
I think there's a lot of supernatural goings-on in the world. But I think humanity sometimes overthinks it. Sometimes, things are just normal, and don't have anything supernatural about them...But I could be wrong.
Maybe sometimes humanity is so horrid in some of it's own acts, it's easier for people just to lable it supernatural than to try to figuire out what the hell would make some people do the things they do.
Things that deal with, obviously, whats not considered natural in this world. Ethereal type things, I suppose.
Well there is fame and some even use hoaxes to "billboard"another cause ie town based hoaxes. The dis-information adds to the hype so even if it does exist it will be hard to researce.
In some cases that are proven hoaxes, the people that believed them continue to believe...not just the person that crafted the hoax ...that fact to me is just as boggling as the possibility of actual para normal manifestations. The trouble people go through to make hoaxes ...do the "hype speech" .then there is the possibility that super imaginative people can "project'
as well which is just as boggling as hypnotism was at one time.so I feel if science (behavioral and microbiologest looked into the fielsd there would be a sifting through of easilier clasified stuff to get to the gems that promote research untainted with whim sightings
I believe it is something that happens where there is no reasonable answer for its existence. there are many things that people just can't explain.
You know I totally agree with that, the human race is so decietfull sometimes that when we get bored we make shit up and try to pass it off as the truth
I beleive in the supernatural. Far to many people see and hear things that can't be immediately explained. maybe someday science can tells us what it is. Be it paranormal or logical.
I believe that something is 'supernatural', if it can't be explained by science. But then again, our scientific understanding is certainly not at it's limit, so what is thought to be supernatural now, could very well be explained 50 years from now.
This debate could last a while.....

One thing I noticed when it comes to the "Supernatural" is that some peeps want tosmething to be a cretain way so badly, despite what proof is laid before them or what explaination you give them, they simply refuse to see something for what it is..or might be.
Yes, I do believe i know what you mean Oceanne. Some people love an ideal so much, they just can't see the wood for the tree's such as back in the 19th century when Darwin put forward the theory on evolution, it took years for the scientific community to accept the idea, thet alone the general public. I don't think the church ever got over the idea.
supernatural means out of the ordinary and theres alot at my school trust me on the 4th floor theres a dome and its haunted big time and every night this floor is like a ghost town its real creapy sometimes i have had some strange experences up in that dome and i never go up there any more
While that may be true, that you have had alot of things happen, sorry,I just dont consider it supernatural..These are natural forces at work here, even though you might not be able to explain them.
I think my cousin MysticTraveller has already said it all for me, lol. I have a very scientific viewpoint and to me something is only unexplained/supernatural when all possible tests have been carried out and proved inconclusive or negative, plus as Mystic has already stated our science is advancing all the time, so in the generations to come, there will more than likely be answers to these unexplained phenomena.
Supernatural is a TV program which is on a Sunday night!
I don't believe MistressBloodDiamonds is referring to that Supernatural:)
well true some super natrel things will be explaind by scince but but i gotta say something i dought will ever be explaind like people who see some things b4 they happen is one i meen how can you explain that i dont see a way you can
Very True WK, that is an area I would be very interested in exploring.
WK..I have two words for you..Akashic records. look them up.
Wow Oceanne, I just did and again WOW!!! o.k, I'm gonna be busy for a while reading this, thanks Oceanne. Again you are a wealth of infomation:)
You are more than welcome TW.I hope that will help you understand more of what is going on,when peeps "see" things of this nature.
I honestly think that most of the things we blame being supernatural or monsters are just different or we can't explain just yet
Supernatral...Hmm...Let me see...Its something that nor human knowledge or Sciance can undersatand and go agenst the "Laws" Of phisics...and so on...
Funny thing about it is,most of the things labeled supernatural arent really going against science or physics..quite the opposite. And that is being proven every day ,whenever something is proven by science.Especially when it comes to space and the energies contained therein.jmho
I am one who feels things have to be seen to believe. I am really cut and dry on it.
I can relate to that, give me proof and I do mean hard evidence, then I'll seriously consider the possibilities.
I think a show on well done hoaxes would really show the clutter the ghost hunters deal with.As well as misperceptions.
If there is as I feel a 4 percent chance then I would be thrilled to be witness to such phenomena.
Supernatural i believe are things out of this world, things that can't be so easily explained and maybe humans do take it to the limit, automatically assumeing such simple things can be something bigger when they are not
Yes,NM I would have to agree..and believe me,I have seen plenty for myself to know there is more to it than meets the eye. ;)
I would have to agree with some of the statements in here. In some cases the term is used to explain the unexplainable...or even just so we as humans can form some kind of understanding to it. we always have to have a reason why things happen so we put a twist on it to explain it.
i am in a way a science man myself so personally i think that there is no supernatural if it can happen then it is natural because the gods made it possible so there is no supernatural
and as for being real im pritty sure most is nit but like i said it just how i see it i maybe wrong but no one really knows
I believe supernatural exists, and ppl speculate a lot about those things wich are unexplainable to them, but that is another way of calculating, so eventually they do come to some conlusion of what is supernatural exactly, or was there something supernatural about the subject at all.
"The term supernatural (Latin: super "above" + natura "nature") pertains to entities, events or powers regarded as beyond nature, in that they cannot be explained by the laws of the natural world." According to the wikipedia.
I don't think its that people are trying to make too much out of it, as they are just trying to understand it...As far as things that are not "there" we need to remember that energy is never lost...
From www.dictionary.com: and another word which is synonymous with supernatural - preternatural:
Being beyond, or exceeding, the power or laws of nature; miraculous.
Syn: Preternatural.
Usage: Supernatural, Preternatural. Preternatural signifies beside nature, and supernatural, above or beyond nature. What is very greatly aside from the ordinary course of things is preternatural; what is above or beyond the established laws of the universe is supernatural. The dark day which terrified all Europe nearly a century ago was preternatural; the resurrection of the dead is supernatural. ``That form which the earth is under at present is preternatural, like a statue made and broken again.'' --T. Burnet. ``Cures wrought by medicines are natural operations; but the miraculous ones wrought by Christ and his apostles were supernatural.'' --Boyle.
That is supernatural, whether it be, that is either not in the chain of natural cause and effect, or which acts on the chain of cause and effect in nature, from without the chain. --Bushnell.
We must not view creation as supernatural, but we do look upon it as miraculous. --McCosh.
The supernatural, whatever is above and beyond the scope, or the established course, of the laws of nature. ``Nature and the supernatural.'' --H. Bushnell.

Part of the issue is that there are people that believe in the supernatural and claim certain supernatural abilities.
If someone believes that they can talk to spirits, call demons, cast spells etc... They would alway look to those types of answers in the unexplained.
If people stopped to figure that enough people believe in a exposed hoax long after it is exposed they would see that that fact is a phenomena that one can witness and even research. This is Para Behavioral Science it is geared to handle complex behavioral manifestations the trouble is that people who create hoaxes or rely on hoaxes are out to discredit such counter explainations
ok from what I read people kept hiting one ponit the Supernatural is something scince cant explane right yet in the beinging of scintific indevers the"supernatural" was factored in.Thats when scince was call the royel arts or alchemy. My thoughts on this is there in no supernatural only natural. for example the human body stays manely at a tempture of 98.6-98.8 degrees yet the budist monkes have learnd to control there bodys to focues the body heat not only to go out in to a blizzerd and melt snow, but have trained so hard they can set small brush paper and even wood on fire.To most its supernatural powers,to them its intences trainging of the mind
also some one said people put things off on the supernatural to feel safe,I for one would rather it be a guy with an axe reather then a monster with claws
I do think that sometimes people jump tot he wrong conclusion. There are things out tehre that can't be explained, but then there are a great number of things that can be.
Man kills woman …. Not very supernatural or is it.
Man kills woman …. Said the devil made him do it…. Is it supernatural or madness
Basically your paradigms make it one or the other, with this being VR we can debate for and against, and the good thing is were on a forum that lets us have an opinion.
Give it up and enjoy, don’t be so uptight
Before you know it the whole VR forum will die and mater of fact n religious agendas take power. As for the stale post I agree … one ether goes too deep with the questions and not many know what a witch is let alone a broom.
Someone deletes the post as they don’t see it as relevant( or just having a bad day).
The diversity of the post agenda is beaten to death like this one. Lol
I'm with you SonofLoki. I would rather be the one with the axe.
But the fact of the matter is that the one with the axe sometimes chops at things they can't explain. What we need to do is separate the physical items that we can measure and explain. We can attack those with axe and sword as the gods expect.
The other things, that we can't explain or measure, are worthly of more study. If they are injure us or our kind, then they must be put to the axe and sword.
Lavisbre, I see you as wise, but many times I don't understand the meanings of your words.
not existing in nature or subject to explanation according to natural laws is the Best way I can describe it. But supernatural occurances jsut give people explainations of things they can't explain so they have some closure or comfort
I don't believe anything is super natural - we have just not found a way to explain it yet...
take a car 500 years back in time - it would still be man made, but they wouldn't know how to explain it...
I think supernatural is just a way of categorizing the things you don't see everyday..
Or maybe things that seem almost imposible.
