I found myself thinking about our full moon.
Why do you think people are more active and lose their inhibitions during the full moons pull?
maybe it is instinctual, since its been tha way our whole time here?
who knows?
I am not sure. But I do know the full moon is the height of optimism while the new moon is the height for pessimism.
I don't think it's ever affected me personally. But my ex-husband works in a jail and says that that activity really picks up during full moons. Hospital emergency rooms seem to pick up at those times as well.
I am not sure how it affects individuals, but working in the 911 industry, I can verify that it DEFINITELY does!
The adverse effects on peoples behavior is well documented and must be looked at as fact not fiction.
I agree the pull of the moon has dramatic effects on many individuals, Not all are affected by it yet i feel the majority is.
Myself I am always more intune or active during the pull of the full moon and most that I know . I feel it is just cosmic and has been since the dawn of time, and more than likely will continue to be and even increase as time goes on... Just an opinion.
The moon is the moon a dead bit of rock , but it let the sun reflect on us at night and give some light and that give energy. Also the moon can be very pretty sometimes.
Like the tides of mother earth, I believe we are affected by the gravity of the moon. as it grows closer and fuller we seem to go well to say astranged. more murders and assualts happen this night what i have heard yet, to me i feel enefgized. so do not know if that is true or not.
I rather liked the explanation for this given on a popular police-related TV series. When the police detective was asked why it seemed that more weirdos and crimes occurred on a full moon than on other nights, he replied "'Cuz there's more light."
Simple, practical, and makes perfect sense!
I really don't see any difference with the way I act on a full moon. But I have heard that more babies are born when the moon is full. I'v always wondered about that.
I don't --- It just always makes me feel strange .... But in a good way ---
I know from experience that the full moon tends to make me feel more energized, which makes me more active, especially in the night hours of the full moon. It is my belief that it's due to my connection to night energies that makes it effect me that way. I can't speak for others though...but it does seem that people tend to get a little "crazy" during the full moon phase.
I cant say it has effected me well to the point that I am aware of it. I just live my day as I see fit and the moon or stars dont have any effect on it.
But to go one step further I do know of many pass cultures who based their every day lives on the moon and stars which is were we get our present way of seeing the moon and stars in our lives.
A friend of mine gets deeply affected by the full moon...less so by the new moon but there is still a degree. he becomes restless and eats and drinks more.
Gravity is a powerful force.
It affects oceane tides and humans are mostly water.
However I quite like the post that mentions moonlight and crime lol
..many of my highs and lows seem to be dictated by the waning Moon.
never really felt or done anything different with the moons pull.
but you never know. werewolfs aparently change during the full moon, or so the legend says lol
One thing people seem to be forgetting si that just because the moon is full doesn't mean it's closer. What phase the moon is in is dependent on which side of the moon is facing the sun.
I work in the healthcare industry. I see an upswing in incidents during the full moons phase. I do agree with Upirlikhj, it is common sense throughout our humble beginnings, Man ,before fire, was able to explore the night because of the light.
But what is it about the light reflected off the moon that makes us go crazy?
One theory I had was that direct light from the sun is yellow which gives everything a warm and gentle feeling. Light from the moon is white and makes things look cold or dead. It could be this changed in mood that makes us feel uneasy.
I'm really not sure why is works but I know there is something to it. I was totally skeptical about it until I took astronomy in college. The professor has all the medical and criminal law majors chart activity in their respective fields through out the semester/ Sure enough, it spiked for about a 3 day period every time there was a full moon. It made a believer out of me. My professor said he wasn't even sure why this was the case.
Jack, do you have access to this information and could you post a link to it? I don't doubt you, I just want to see it for my own personal curiousity.
I'm sorry, I dont. This was done in college and I took that course about 4 years ago. I was neither a criminal law major nor a medical major so I had to do a different project. I will see if I can find something about it for you though.
If I am correct the words lunacy and lunatic are both derived from the latin word luna. In latin, luna means moon ;)
Well yes, a primal instinct makes sense, but what brought about that primal instinct? Is it that prey was easier to spot during the full moon? Is it that white light from the full moon makes us uneasy? What is it?
What is the question?? Does ther moon affect our behavior or something else?? some believe it does I know the earth is effected by the moons gravatailional pull. Humans not so much
I don't know why, but, the moon and the tides do affect people.
i think its becuse we are made of 80% water and the moon holds domain over water
I don't know if it's true or not, but I have always been told that the full moon is a high energy time. I don't know if that helps or not.
It could also be that so many people try to live out the HOLLYWOOD's version of their fantasies or whatever and if you notice most TV shows always has things happening on the full moon. Maybe people do things at this time because of that.
That's a posibility; however, people have been reacting to the full moon since long before the advent of the movie camera.
That is true but research shows that it is getting worse.
Of course it has effects,I find myself more emotional when the moon is waxing, sometimes to the point of insanity which levels off when it reaches it's peak, everything and everyone is affected in one way or another
I believe it has to do with the fact that the human body contains a certain percentage of water, like the tides, our moods and behaviour will change with the full moon.
xMitsix do you think that we are a magnet to the moon in some kinda way.. ?
xMitsix is on to something.
What is interesting about the moon (as well as the sun and the earth) is that these are all the three largest gravitational forces in our immediate universe.
Gravity not only pulls on the water on the earth and our bodies, but it also pulls on every single atom and electron of our being.
So, during a full moon, at night, you have the moon in direct opposition to the sun and the earth, and these gravitational entities are playing a gravitational tug of war on our bodies.
The gravitational differences might even be strong enough to deflect neurons and synapses in our brains, which could affect our behavior, our emotions, and our actions.
It might be because the pull of the full moon is on almost everything. It's the times where her light shines the brightest and her energy is at it's highest peak. :P
The moon does have a pull and effect of some sort. The more odd types of people do seem to come out in large numbers, crimes seem to go up, a lot of things seem to happen. Though this also seems to come from the first day of the month as well, things like this happen as well.
The moon has lots of effects on people at different phases, which makes them do the things that were discussed here.
It's nothing but the gravatational pull of the 75% water in our bodies, nothing else. The moon affects the tides (water), oceans (again, water) and the behavior of creatures who also have a high percentage of water in their bodies.
boneyard, are you sure that it's simply gravity or is it not also conceivable that there are cultural influences as well? The was a point made about people wanting to romanticize their movie idols, but what about since before then? Novels, poems, even campfire stories. The full moon has always mystified us as the human race, is it simply because of gravity, or is simply because it looks "pretty and mysterious".
i don't know if it is because of gravity or just something else but full moon deffinetly affects me and well most of the people i know..
I myself do not know what its effect on me is but I do know that on full moons the place goes crazy
we have water in our bodys and the moon can effect us more on a full one i think
I know activity picks up on the full moon! Why I am not sure if any one can really explain it! I know sometimes it has it's affects on me as well!
_I have to say that my personality is affected by the moon. I'm more open, witty, and outgoing on a full moon, but on a new moon, I'm more shy. The more the moon grows, the happier I am...I don't know what it is. I can say that it isn't that there is more light, because I simply do not like the light. I don't know. It's weird._
I tend to be more perceptive and emotional during a full moon......or so I've been told.
My mood will change dramatically as well.
I've never noticed more sensitivity to the full moon, but I do believe we are all affected by it some way or another. I know in Wicca the full moon has deep meaning and all the holidays coincide with the full moon.
I think it is very simple the moon draws tides and affects the ocean. Are we not mostly made up of water so why wouldn't the moon phases affect us just like the ocean?
In modern times it’s become an excuse to let go and be more wild. It’s like drinking, look at our society; we drink and party to every excuse we can find. Every full moon is hyped up on the radio, in the news and at schools. I don’t think it has anything to do with instinct other than our desire to party and let loose.
As others have stated I cannot speak for other people. However working in the Casino Industry I do notice a shift in personalities during full moons. I too simply feel more alive and energized by it.
The magnetism of the earth is changed during the moon phases. Not only oceans and seas are influenced by that, but the animal world too.
Here is a little statistic about thiat subject:
Fool moon madness
I read once that the moon effects the tides of the ocean. And humans are what....80% water? So the full moon would effect us like the tides. Well maybe.....
I'm confused. a full moon is just a regular moon with reflected light right?
how would the amount of light reflecting off it pull things? help me clear this up.
stupid logic always getting in the way.
i think the whole mystical thing has just progressed through time because the full moon was/is still used for various rites in certain religions....and let's not forget, the "Hollywood Take", which makes the full moon ripe time for witches, demons, werewolves, etc....to go tromping around and casting spells...
"Spring Tides
When the moon is full or new, the gravitational pull of the moon and sun are combined. At these times, the high tides are very high and the low tides are very low. This is known as a spring high tide. Spring tides are especially strong tides (they do not have anything to do with the season Spring). They occur when the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon are in a line. The gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun both contribute to the tides. Spring tides occur during the full moon and the new moon. "
Taken from http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moontides/
There is some more info on the tides there as well
_I agree with Kondradiction about the Hollywood-ization of the full moon. And there was a very good point made about how it affects the ocean, about the gravitational point, however, I also agree with the theory that, since we are mostly water, the moon, which has an affect on all liquids, would have an affect on us as well._
that's honestly how i feel as well, since we are mostly water, the moon would have that gravitational pull on us....
the word Lunatic comes from the term luna meaning moon.
The gravitational pull from the moon does affect the world water, IE. Oceans, Sea ect... So there for our bodys that are made up of mostly water would be affected as well.
i believe the full moon is cool and it has a magnet pull and it makes me alittle crazy sometimes..
The full moon can have a very powerful affect on certain people, I do believe that. There are statistics on that pure fact that the full moon affects everyone in very different ways.
I think it has always been this way, as long as the moon is still there it will continue to have affects on humans and animals and the Earth itself... Humans are made up of mostly water and the more full and bright the moon is affects the water in our bodies and our brain... Which is why some people feel a "pull" or feel lighter or perhaps more optimistic.
It's a different affect with others though. For me, I feel charged and ready for anything... Other times I feel emotional and stressed out.
Nice to see that our education system is working full force in America...
Gravity not only pulls on water, but it pulls on everything. Remember Newton? Galileo? Dropping apples (oops, mostly water...) and dropping iron balls of differing sizes?
The moon's gravity will pull on your hair, the cloths you are wearing, it will pull the car you are driving.
Come on folks...think a little more about things!
Maybe it's the moon affecting you...
:-)
I think the reason for it is that we are made up of energy and there is a stronger magnetic pull on on the earth that affects people and animals. I have noticed this happening when I was working in a home for the mentally disabled we always had problems with them for 3 days before and 3 days after a full moon and was told then that it was because of magnetics
Magnitism is not likely as big of an impact as gravity would be.
The moon's gravity is 0.1654 g, or 16% of Earth's gravity. The moon is pretty dense, so it packs in some decent gravity.
(stats from Wiki)
The moon's magnitism is 100 times smaller than the Earth's (30-60 microtesla) and is localized on the surface crust rather than a di-polar filed like Earth's.
Interesting thought that had merit worth invesigating.
I seriously do not no but for me i become more fierce and sexual and i did not even relize this until a good friend of mine and pulled me to the side and told me this...
i have noticed all of my life that i have more energy and am in much better spirits during a full moon
I don't know why the full moon effects peoples emotions, perhaps it has something to do with the magnetic pull of the moon.
I do know from working in a hospital that it definately has an effect on peoples inhibitions for sure.
the full moon fills me with energy and i feel more alive
i definatly feel more of a rush when its a full moon. i think it also help that i m a night owl. lol
it awakens a more primative side of us
a side we should show more often
I believe that it also makes us want to be more alive. More free and it also is some of the best times for spells.
I know thedog that the moon doesn't have as strong a magnetic pull as the earth does but during a full moon the it is closer to the earth and maybe it has something to do with the energy bouncing back and forth between the earth and moon that is doing it.
Could be the pull of gravity. Also some think your suppose to go nuts, therefore they must do. Mind is very susceptible to what we hear & see others do.
if you think of it in nature's terms, most sea life breeds during the fullest tides which only occur with a full moon. i think it reaches out to everyone, but everyone interprets the energy in different manners.
I always feel more alive during the full moon. But as others have said, the moon effects ocean tides and other bodies of water. The human body is made up of mostly water so why not have an effect on humans too.
Working in the bars i have found that there seem to be more fights and drunken brawls during a full moon than any other nights.... also the crowd seems to be shifted more into the strange people spectrum than normal customers.... rather its the strange croud that causes the problem or it the full moon i couldnt say but i do notice a differance during a full moon
could it be something to do with the way the polarize4d light of a full moon works on the pineal gland? its an attractive idea, but to be honest i dont think its the answer. i often find myself feeling energetic and hyperactive, and it is only when i go outdoors and see it that i realise its a full moon. i dont think it's the gravitational effect, because the pull of the full moon can't be any different from that of a new moon or half moon - unless the position of the sun is also a factor.
A waxing moon has some effect on my sleep, and a full moon just has my sleep patterns all out of wack... hard time sleeping, very restless, more energy than other days of the month.
As I used to be a police officer... actually read the results of findings - more crime is committed during a full moon.
I think the moons pull also has to due with light and it's affect on our lifes. Some people do not go out in the sun for many reasons and we are not able to enjoy the high given by the sun so when the moon reflexs the suns light we feel better.
In the town that I live in the Driving goes out the window during a full moon, there is way more vehicle accidents
I think I'm in better moods around the full moon.
I just noticed a while ago that during the new moon I'm less hyper and am more down on myself.
Scientific research shows the moon does in fact alter our mood. Go to the maternity office at any hospital. I'm sure they could inform you a thing or two.
I'm very interested in all this research being touted about lunar affects on society. My first thought is why would it only affect certain people. My next thought would be why there wasn't evidence of societal changes from different hemispheres being closer or farther away. Then there's the aspect of why there aren't changes from day to night since one side of the planet is always closer to the moon (ie...night).
If gravity was the source of the problem, what would our poor astronauts be suffering or even those in gravitational stress tests or even high altitude flying? How would gravity affecting the water in our bodies, change our moods and psychological reasoning?
I tend to feel that it mostly comes down to social influence (books, movies, media) making us look for more strange behavior on full moons as well as the influence of that media making people act out on full moons.
Well, all nature, including humans and others, are all connected to the earth and the moon. Even the sun. I think its primal instinct. Women's bodies are connected to the moon, as I've observed myself.
as beings weather it be animal or human we all feel the pull of the moon it just depends if we are too wraped up in our lives or things we do as to weather or not we feel it. if we are open we can feel it everyone has the capabilitys its wether or not you're open to everything else too.
sadly enough i think full moons are kinda strange. if you undertand what i am saying i mean they arent strangfe but wierd im confusing myself now!
Me personally, I get energy from the moon and when it is full is when it puts of the most energy.
Sure do.
I DO!
The moon always messes with me!!
I don't lose my inhibitions or get all crazy...
I usually get drained, emotionally and physically. I love the moon, but... I hate it too, becasue of that. lol
i love the full moon for it make some people more sexual then they normal are and i dont know the reason behind it. i think it is really cool to watch any how.
Like was said, the waxing to full moon certainly does more than work the ocean tides. Sexual energy of course would be increased, depending on the person.
The moon can definitely effect a person whom is susceptible. I believe that if you have some kind of spiritual relationship with the moon and nature you become susceptible to the emotions and feelings around you without even knowing it.
the more tune you are with the moon the more that you will feel it affects of it and it is a wounderful feeling.
idk but it makes me all hyper and act different than i usually am
It has a definite pull on lots of people. Has anyone ever noticed that Lunar Eclipses make people stupid or crazy after them, especially this last one. I know a lil off subject...please accept my apologies.
In preliterate cultures, or in small primative villages the woman have their menses on the full moon. There are more children born on the full moon. There is an increase in crime, and werewolves get furry. So in my opinion there is a cultural aspect as well as a physical aspect in our behavior under the light of the full moon.
