So currently i've taken a spiritual path in my life. What better way to start then to try and feel more connected with Deity’s and most importantly, myself.
I tried meditating today, not really following a specific set of rules other then breathing in and out and trying to feel energy around me. I think it worked to a certain degree. However, i'm new at this and dont think its particularly easy (nothing ever is in the beginning) Although i returned with a mild satisfaction, i would really love to hear from those who meditate regularly and can share there best experiences with it.
Also, maybe through lack of concentration, i was being distracted by light and dark pink colours in my "vision" I'm taking a guess and putting it down to the minds eye? I plan on meditating once more before i go to bed tonight so if there is something you would like to suggest you're more then welcome to.
What i'm looking to achieve is a gathering of good energy that cleanses the bad. I really want to find a way to focus my thoughts better. I can feel a mental block in the top right of my head but i couldn’t clear it on this attempt.
Put simply:
How do you meditate? Why do you meditate? Do you use crystals? Does it get easier?
Thank you in advance for your replies.
I dont think there are any special rules in meditating. If you just sit down and focus it will come to you. Your body will get the hang of it just as it get the hang on walking when you are a baby.
books are good and everything but I think that if you read to many of them you will only end up with even more bloks in your head.
You started of good with siting down and breathing in and out. Just keep on like that and give it some more tryes. Im sure you will get the hang of it sooner than you think. I dont want to give you any hints of how im doing. I want you to find your own path
Good luck
Ummm well I used to meditate regularly with a club at school but we were meditating more as a relaxation technique. So we didn’t use crystals or anything, we just sat in a comfortable position and went from there.
We were also advised to try and have an attitude of kindness while meditating, that is kindness to yourself, the world etc etc…and if we were to get distracted just to gently draw our attention back to our breathing.
Hope that helps a little bit :)
I've meditated off and on for a few years now. Just like the person above me, at school we had a meditation club that I would go to every time we met. My teacher was also my Aikido Sensei, and so, keeping with Japanese culture, we would meditate using gongs and special pillows.
When I first started meditating it was very hard to stop the internal dialogue. My mind was still very active and I couldn't control it. After practice of trying to get myself to shut up long enough to relax, I started to be able to keep my mind clearer for longer periods of time. I found this much easier to do at night, when things seem peaceful, and in my own home.
I decided to start meditating when life because very stressful for me, and even 5 minutes of a clear, non-active mind changed me day. It made me more calm, more self-aware and aware of the things around me.
I don't use crystals or gongs or pillows, other than to make myself comfortable, while I meditate.
So yes, it has gotten easier for me. As for the pink colors you see, I'm not sure what to make of it. But I hope someone can help you out with that. =)
How do you meditate? Why do you meditate? Do you use crystals? Does it get easier?
The way i meditate is lying down b4 sleep or as i wake usualy, i just let every feeling disapear down from head to body through to my legs so my body feels lighter the hard bit is getting this heavy feeling from my legs which takes time to leave my body.
I then feel so light that i am no longer feeling my body which is like a floating feeling sometimes i will see pictures which can be insight, which i have had before which i found amazing
I meditate to relax and to feel free from aches from working, i dont do this often so i need to get back to doing it more.
I do not use crystals
It becomes easy with practice but i find it helps to be calm before i try
Meditation works for everyone in different ways.
I meditate all the time, from deep breathing meditation to Tai Chi.It depends on what you are looking for with meditation and what you need it for.
Over the years I have been taught in different ways from meditating alone or guided meditation. There are various ways and schools of thought. Even with magick the basis of being able to perform it well is to be able to meditate and calm the mind and visualizations. This helps with focus. One of the ways Crowley recommended was to choose an object, such as an apple or something like that and visualize it in the mind's eye while meditating until you can see it without anything eternal being able to distract you. You shut out all external stimulation of light and sound. For some a dim room is helpful and others it doesn't matter. Most feel one should do this about the same time each day and never do it in bed. Meditation is sort of like massage it has an equivalent to sleep. It is helpful for pain relief and stress. I use to do this daily but I don't anymore, why, lol...I really don't know.
Find a comfortable environment; say a natural space, open air, natural sounds and noises, go to a retreated place from the collective space, then find a comfortable site where you feel you can drift into complete mind and self contemplation .
When I feel like finding answers, getting images and ideas for a certain inquiry inside my mind; I use to fill the bath with hot water, turn off the light, light a candle, set a certain odor, play a ambient music and try to enter in thoughts that can fill the puzzles in my realizations. Usually get very compelling answers.
My personal understanding of meditation is that prayer is talking to the infinite (God), and that meditation is how we recieve answers.
Personally, I like to meditate lying on my back with my feet on the floor, and my knees up; my hands resting either palm up to the sides or laced on my chest.
I also sometimes meditate in prostration, but usually only if I am entirely bereft, and prayer turns into a meditative state.
I have memories of my Aunt in the 70's sitting on the floor resting on a t-shaped stick in lotus position sitting under a blanket. She was a house mother in an ashram, that 4 of my aunts/uncles belonged to. That never looked entirely comfortable to me.
Your tail extending to the earth core and the brain expanding to the universe concept seamed to work well for me, and helps when I am out of practice; but once you have practice, teh position and other outwardly distractions mean nothing.
Most ashrams focus on a personal mantra, which you will only be given after you have invested a lot of money.
Personal mantras may work, but I know 2 family members who do not use their mantras anymore (the other 2 being deceased.)
I used to meditate in order to find my spirit guide. Unfortunately, I was never able to fall into a deep state. I tried many different methods including lighting candles, sitting cross legged on the floor, or even laying down in my bed. I gave up a long time ago trying to meditate.
For me a deaper stage of meditation almost came natural.
Its sad to read that so many give up cause they find it hard.
I have never been in contact with my spirit guide though. Its more like im in contact with a inner me to find solutions to problems and helping me feel better and find new energy
You will not reach any "higher state" (in my opinion): only higher realization, acquired knowledge or understanding of the purpose you are contemplating and engaging the neutral state of expectations. It is not something that will take you into ~other worldly~ experiences;- unless you add any "hallucinous" utensils in such ritual. It does not necessarily correlate to any 'higher form' or as a direct connection with "higher form" perse', is something of individual sense and rhetoric, the idealization behind it is find a space of retreat from time relations of what else would you be doing instead of retreating from it, is not about "hmming" and "closing eyes" or "thinking of nothing and not moving"; is more like finding the relaxation to open up deviated from all standard practices in daily basis in regards of time and space production(other wise talking to your inner self), if you actually 'hmm', not move, and not think of anything,- closing your eyes: you are doing exactly that;-not looking for anything but those fines.
No way. I would never meditate.
It is a Hindu practice of making your mind blank.
I took one year of Asian history in college, way back when. But anyway, the instructor that taught the part about India, was from there. He taught me a lot about what true Hinduism means. In a nut shell, meditation is to weaken the mind , and vegetarianism to weaken the body . So that a spirit will come into you and kill you, and break what they see as a horrible unending cycle of Samsara.
Samsara was sold to Americans as Reincarnation. It is the cycle of life and death. They feel it is a horrible curse they want out of, not a romantic view of having a choice of coming back or not. I am not knocking Hinduism, just not the path for me. But people should be educated about what they do and seek. So, just thought I would share that.
Here is where I make my standard disclaimer for spelling and dyslexia,LOL.
Anyway, most Westerners use the word meditation out of context with its Hindu origins. What seems to be the flavor they are trying to convey, is more like pondering something, or calming oneself ; and not the true meaning of meditation, which is to make your mind blank. The definition altered in the 1970's with an organization called the Hindu Vishnu Parishod, or something like that. Anyway, words like yoga and meditation were sold as health crazes. They didn't bother to explain the deeper meanings. Like they spoke of Yoga as a form of healthy exercise, when actually it means to Yoke with Brahman. They flooded the Western mind with Hindu concepts, therefore that person is practicing Hinduism. Not my definition, but theirs. They believe if you say certain words, you invoke certain energies associated with that word. And words are powerful indeed in any culture, society, era etc...
Now do you see why I don't like to respond to these subjects, I end up writing a novel again ? LOL
Anyhow you chop it up, meditation is out for me, but pondering is in.
Meditate NEVER.
I am all for spiritual enlightenment, but Hinduism is a pursuit of the mind and not the spirit. So, not happening.
Jeje! you would be amazed of what self contemplation achieve in that what you speak of- "enlightenment"; and it does not remounts of reaching anything but self absorbance and exchange of impressions, weather you dismiss or prejudge a idealization alienated from your belief system, it becomes evident that you are not watching from a "enlightened posture, standpoint or scope at all, for all you know it is all connected, even the negative things you deem is part of the fabric of meaning in the essence of it all. How do you address to the humane idealization of others actions; is counterproductive to your ascension, that's why you must choose wisely the approach of others even if its assimilated in regards of difference of standpoints.
Meditate? In a way, mayhaps...
Does playing video games count? Or relaxing to a good movie stress free movie? Walking down the street looking at the sky while still paying attention to where you are going? Sitting by the nearby river and taking in the atmosphere?
Then yes, I meditate on a constant basis.
Now, if you are talking about opening the chakras for more enjoyable, relaxing feeling and have a tingling sensation afterward then... Sometimes.
After all, balance is needed at times to center the self. I do not bow down to fear tactics such as spiritual intrution of any kind. In my life, I have no need of fear.
If the individual does need an introduction in the ways of meditation, then by all means view this video:
I practice Chakra meditation. By sitting somewhere quiet and comfortable I am able to slowly open each chakra one at a time and finally reach full relaxation. I am not disciplined enough to do this daily but most meditation coaches will tell you that you do not have to do it daily for the effects to be meaningful.
The best website I could find to explain this method and the chakra meanings is http://www.learningmeditation.com/chakras.htm.
yeah, i meditate, though not well.
i am a very very simple minded person, so this is interesting for me. As a thought comes across my mind, i crush it. I try not to let anything in. I focus on my breathing, and try not to make any noise whatsoever.
Time passes pretty quick. focus on your muscles as well.
I tried counting sheep but i kept on getting all turned on so had to pass on that.
Meditation isn't some bad or something people will laugh at you if you do.
It is a way to clear your mind of drama and stress and help your mind/body relax.Meditation is good for you,it is not some metaphysical thing to point fingers at.
It helps relax the body from muscle tension...help clear the mind of the daily grind.Read more up on it before you say...Meditation,I would never do that.
Holy crap... all that time I spent meditating in India,
I didn't know I was taking my life into my own hands. I thought the most dangerous thing I did there was drink the water in a public fountain (6 months of dysentry;) and forget my quinine (Vivax Malarial Hepatitus;) and play with fireworks on Depwali.
The funny thing about hinduism is that it is more fragmentary than Christianity. Every village has a different misunderstanding due to the rampant ignorance, and illiteracy in small communities. I think your hindu instructor allowed you to be mislead.
Meditation is older than Hinduism; and is not foreign to occidental systems.
Err, we may have gone off topic a little... I didnt say i was practicing Hindu techniques and i sure as hell dont believe that meditating weakens the mind. Granted, westerners may have stolen the idea of meditation and sold it as a health craze, but from the 1970's and upwards, did peoples lives start getting more hetic?
Back on topic anyhow.
Aside from the few random posters trying to knock up there level, you all seem to have had some run in with the subject. Think ive learned that everyone is looking for different things when they venture down that road. I think i stated at the start that i was merely looking for clear my mind and connect more with myself.
For those that dissaprove and dont beleive i have to counter you, i honestly came out of it feeling better.
But i'd get it if it didnt work for some people. I think you have to be in the right frame of mind to do so.
However, maybe some of you should try it and come back with your experience?
I meditate but when i do i try using some kind of music backgrounds to help my concentration
I meditate it helps me to clear the mind. I use cd's to help balance my chakras.
I may use the major arcana of the tarot surrounding me to help meditate when searching for answers.
I may also surround my self in crystals to help energize my meditation.
Is all about harmonics and frequencies. Natural atmosphere has the natural key element of everything prescribed to such practice, and yes everything that you step out of the grid of daily basis is part of achieving an external influence and impressions to see things and experience and fed yourself with realizations you didn't thought before, even if you are playing video games you head is spinning in other things.
Doesn't matter to me whether meditation is older than Hinduism, I still would not practice it. I am not putting it down either. It is just I do not find it to be in line with my beliefs or ways or relaxing, since that seems to be the way everyone wants to use to term. Lots of things help me relax, but I don't consider a bubble bath meditation. As much as someone has the right not to practice, I don't see it as bad if someone else wants to to do it. I am just stating how I feel. I don't care for it, and the topic asked if I do meditate. It seems the word meditation means different things to different people. It is like asking someone what love means. You will get a different answer from each person.
Also, lots of things you do can feel good, and not be good for you. Just because something feels good doesn't make it all good. I like to eat chocolate, and boy it makes me feel good. I can also make myself sick by eating too much. So, conversations like this are difficult at best with so many varying factors. It is nice to see everyone expressing themselves and celebrating our differences, and my choice not to meditate, versus doing it.
Meditation is descipline of eyes and inner beyond the reach of mind. It does include many techniques, though even prayers are called meditation. but meditation techniques varies and involvement too. When regular, it cures illness and heal the person.
meditation brings deep relaxation, astral and spiritual and psychic advancement.
There are many ways in many cultures to heal and connect with spirit. Meditation isn't the only way to accomplish these things.
It is scientifically proven that chocolate releases endorphins that make you feel good. Music, art, the sound of rain, the smell of roses, or taste of pizza are all things that can make us feel good. Feeling good does not equate with anything spiritual. Feeling good is of the materialistic world, not of the spirit realm. Feelings, are emotions and that is from the heart [ body] and mind. Your spirit doesn't know feelings because they are attached to the body and mind.It is just how I feel about it. We can not discuss whether we believe and/or practice something without it involving emotion and a litany of other things that overcomplicate the matter.
I do know that the mind can not fully understand the spirit. It is beyond this realm.
Also,Like I didn't thin it was cool for the author of this thread to accuse people of only posting on this thread because they are trying to level up. People post for different reasons. I usually only respond to things that get my attention, or just play in the sandbox. I don't post here often in this section of the forum, because sometimes differences of opinion are not appreciated here. It seems sometimes when people don't like what some else says, they take a shot at them. I reviewed the thread and there are only two or three lower levels, with few posts, but that doesn't mean the only reason they posted is because they are trying to level up. And so what if they were ? What is wrong with that ? It still doesn't change their mind via their posts. It doesn't matter how much, or how little someone writes, it is not necessarily a reflection of the depth of their passion. We should not judge others because of the amount of what they say, or judge them when what they say disagrees with you.
Meditation is an exercise to bring the mind, body and spirit into one. It is also relaxing and helps clear negative energies.
I think most people mediatate in some form or another, even if its just relaxing for a few minutes and enjoying the scenery, they don't realize they are even doing such.
Charka is one of the best forms, I've found.
Chakra meditation is very powerful, If you are regular on it, it is capable of making you para-psychic. it opens the chakra to fullest and align them at best that powers of cosmos penetrates you from route to crown and opens third eye and the thirdeye differ culture to culture how deep you take. this hindu meditation only wiccans can understand if they are not involved in divine yoga. It is not mere meditation on chakra but it is meditated on chakra with certain mantra and a process behind it and the knowledge is must. without knowledge your subtle do not open to the things expected in meditation.
Meditation is not like a codex that you talk about it and says i tested it i felt this and that. just like you did act of hands hu and ha and tell that I tried it and successful now i can parralel to black belt.
Just know it first and do it for 10 days continuously for 1 hours and then talk about it.
To author of thread : BTW in my culture we use SAGE to cleanse out negative energy and attract positive. So, that addresses another part of your question.
I took a meditation class at a college back in the 70's. I tried it, but it just wasn't doing anything for me. I even paid money for the class. I went to all the classes and everything. I just could not get into it. I have found a way of cleansing and attracting good energy. I go into the ocean. You can also do a sea salt bath in your bathtub. It really connects and cleanses you.
In old Europe wasn't it frankensense and mur ? I can not spell to save my life, but anyway. Positive mental attitude helps as well. Just thinking positive can attract good things.
Ladies and Gentlemen, if you cannot post and get along with the other posters don't read the thread. Everyone gets to have their say but remain polite and stop attacking each other or this thread where some members have tried to share their real experiences with meditation will be closed.
Meditation is suppose to calm you and relax you, keep you from snapping at nothing.
Meditation will work for you if you have an open mind and let your body and mind relax.
I think I define meditation differently than most people. To me it is a time each day I relax and let all distractions fade away. My meditation time can be in the tanning bed or in the arms of the one I love....but either way, it is a time I just...am.
I usually go for short periods of time. Try 10 mins. to start. Picture something soothing to you ( a beach or water scene or just a bunch of colors) and just think of that. Breath slowly in and out. Just relax a little at a time. Increase the time slowly.
Remembered when meditation was almost taboo in Christianity and the church. It was never taught. Too close to the Occult or other religions, as someone else already mentioned. But it's begin proven very helpful for all people now. Many different ways and many reasons why. To resting a moment. To sitting still. To moving, as Tai- Chi (already mentioned too). To a Living meditation. I've experienced them all. That last one is tough to do in today's world without its warnings. But yes, it also can be done.
Music, breathing, mantras, etc are only there to help train the Ego into being still. Basically it serves no other purpose in the long run. You can, if you wish, call them contemplation instead.
Learn the phrase: "Prayer is the ability to talk to God, Meditation is the ability to listen to Him."
By knowing this, you learn to discipline your mind, breathe and body to remain still. Then finding your "still-point" - you listen.
I have been meditating much like decorusmortis stated, except I tend to quietly play music such as Enigma or Enya...I have been doing this since coming home from Iraq for post traumatic stress disorder, at the recommendation of my psychologist.
Tai chi is very easy it is movement with our inner surrendered to bliss of the nature. its martial art too as it is tool to make self tough against hard hits and it defend us too. but if you remove martial art part, it become your blissful movement in love of nature. yes its loving the nature in bliss. But i already told unless discipline of the inner it won't give you the results expected. and meditation in sitting form is the best meditation. david blaine is other master of meditation he does meditation in the extreme condition (Breathe holding, underwater, on the top of pole, in the ice, meditating while falling from height and total surrender to nature while falling, etc, etc,)
I meditate every time I feel down.I find that centering yourself helps out with everything you do
yes i meditate it keep my mind body and soul in the right place and helps releave me of all the days clutter.
Well major meditation related arts are indian origine. even tarot reading is not just west generated its originally indian art.
what you say west art is nothing in psychic or divine fields. you can say only Qabbalistic techniques are western even woodoo is not western its base is total asian and egyptian too is not western technique. zombie craft too is african technique. if west on true ground starts indian psychic arts, then nil remains with western arts except qabbalistic arts. in ancient europe there was taste of learning psychic arts of indian origine. tibet was part of ancient india.
I apologise for bringing the negetivity with the truth.
Oh... thinking about Tai Chi made me consider the
Sufi poet, Rumi.
His followers used to practice a very specific dance, they would stick a big nail in the floor and spin around the nail until they had perfect form. Then they would dance in a group going counter clockwise for (if I rememebr correctly) half an hour, tehn change direction and rumi would come into the middle of the circle, and they would end where they began.
The practice of absolute poverty, and this dance form of meditation/mysticism/enlightenment; caused tehm to irreverently be called Whirling Dervish.
So I think about how I dance... when I am absolutely obsorbed in teh music and am not thinking of how I am dancing, but that music and inspired movement brings about an absolute joy, uninterupted by specific thought.
Sometimes I think about buying a nail and practicing this form of mysticism. *laughs*
I do mediate people ive been doing it for 4 years now. I dont do it just to learn everything that has happened to people. I do it to help them as much as i can. I believe no deserves to suffer what theyve been through so im always there for everyone as much as i can when they need it im always there. I do it in school. I do it in my job i even do it for my Coven and if needed fi anyone needs to talk about something ill be there.
Desire is the key to motivation which leads to some people coming up to and looking up to you when they need it , but it's determination and commitment to an pursuit of helping youreself and those around you cause it affect everyone around you when youre down - a commitment to to wanting to change and being more open.It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans a simple commitment Of saying to the one you look up to if they have time to listen to you.
Its my Committment that i have made a couple of months ago to help those in need.
Hmm. Sometimes I do joga. It helps me to relax, and gain more non-material energy.
I meditate when I can, and will be more than happy to share my expierences and the tools that work best for me with anyone that will ask.
However, I will not just post what I know right here for everyone to see and laugh at.
This topic is very sacred to me, because of the healing and renewal that comes with it.
If you are serious about improving your meditation habits, then message me.
Also, if you have anything to offer for myself to try, then please do not hesitate
Very few peepal knows that meditation is the base of real hypnotizm and distant hypnotizm and distant reiki.
Honorable Hard Biter,
Meditation strengthen your conscious and intellact, It open your chakras and relaxes your body, and most important it bring you ner to your true self and free you from materialistic matters of the world and only true entities you can aware of or can communicate in meditation. this brings you free from matters hence useful.
and center focal point meditation i do not recommend any peepal its dangerous and capable of bring you depression if could not handle it. without knowledge don't go for it.
Chakra meditation is waste if you don't know the method and theory behind it.
But common meditation is most useful to common peepal for that they can trace the method of doing vipassana meditation the art of buddha purely indian meditation buddha used to do always. this form of meditation is the best common meditation capable of curing even death level brain tumer. or you can learn this art in near by vipassana commune. there are 10 days courses in such commune. the 12 hour deep meditation in such commune with mentor lecture of 30 minute in those 12 hour and 30 minute query solving session in those 12 hours will make you real meditator and you will forget telling the meditation useless. but its depand on your sincerity. after those 10 days you are meditator but beginer.
whoever interested in learning meditation on web, www.swamij.com is best site explaning the level and methods of meditation guiding to good and acceptable form of meditation. He is western yogi master.
Meditation for me is a state of mind, I usually take one of my pendulum crystal or my crystal lotus and using candles I just close my eyes and relax, then breath slowly deeply till I am completely calm, then I began focusing on water or a flower or an animal and observe it as if I was a microscope, I look at each detail, I don’t over look I look and take the time to look, as if my life depended on what I saw. And when I am done it am so calm and relax I am able to feel my chakra and my spiritual energy to its max. Plus it helps find answers I was seeking but over looked at.
I enjoy meditating. It's a great way to recooperate and feel refreshed with out taking a 4.5 hour nap in the middle of the day. It also helps with my aches and pains as well as allowing my body to feel rejuvinated.
Breathe and meditaation this knew disciplined david blaine very well. now he is demonstrating indian himalayan art yet to cross many steps...meditation and its level never end till you gain kundalini.
and you can see the nice picture The Lost Kingdom *Starring jackie chan, jet lee* in that movie that beautiful white sage doing meditation and showing importance of the meditation is the main essence of the movie. what ever he tell about breathe is the phrase of that movie. The sitting posture that aligned his all chakra in one line. while no stress in the cord and no stretch in the head on neck.
Yes this is true...
And whati decided to go on psycho-spiritual exercises in the age of 45, I will start it with my age of 44... I will be 44 in october 2011. and this thread reduced my one year of starting meditation based exercises.
I am very bold once decided in plan of action and I go very bold to do that.
Thanks to this thread that it created charm inside me more and once again I will start this all. when i tested all exercises successfully and went on doing for few days, itforced me to stop all exercises immediately and even meditation too. it was just like warning or alarming to me that once i involved in this all, I will never return to balanced side. It was impacted on me so shockingly that my will power harmed with the out come and only meditation i was doing oftenly.
but i will start it all from oct. 2011 and then I will not have time for net. coz my time will be engaged in that subtle world.
I know that every psycho-spiritual exercise the base is meditation. May it be astral, may it be akashic record or fore vision, energy work or vision these are materialistic aims and non materialistic aim even many much much more than these aims.

Just meditation is the best way to attain the supreme.
Venumstings is very well fine tuned. Salutes to you.
Of course mediatation is a must to reach your highest inner levels. Why do you think they teach it in martial arts?
Try breaking some boards with out prepping your mind set first, you'll be sporting a cast for nine weeks instead :D
Chakra is the best.
i first started meditating (deep breathing) while i was deployed. and i agree with the others in the fact that it helps relaxe and center ones self.
.. in jail for selling cannabis, I learn to be free.
Whether it be gardening, or learning how to centre, there are many ways to meditate ~ it's a matter of finding whar works, for you.
I did when taking Martial Arts, but haven't since.
I should get back to doing it, it kinda energizes your body.
I've practiced a number of different martial arts for 12 years and have learned how much control has over the mind. I pratice Chakra meditation and it has had a significantly great impact on my life. I would like to learn Tai Chi meditation, as I'm curious about it. - Lucien
inadvertently yes. I do Tai Chi. It was not something to meditate to for a long time though. What some don't include is that you are so worried about memorization and fluidity in your movements that you cant focus on anything but that. Now that time has gone by I find I am left to meditate while my physical being takes over and does what it does by muscular repetition.
Okay I will release few tips every time i read this thread.
First tip you must do meditation in very compfortable position. But not in sloath, sloath will lead you to sleep.
That is why you must do it in sitting position. even on chair you must sit straight in comfortable position. Or to see sitting posture, just see the film The Lost kingdom.
Your trunk must be straight in single line and neck on it aligned but very comfortable and no stress or pain on neck and the head on neck be in very comfortable position that it do not get stress to head or strain to mind. But both trunk neck and head be aligned.
second tip, forget the world and cut from world and its vision and sound, do not give ear or mind to matters of world and do not give the ears to sounds of world. even cut from the vision what comes to you in close eyelids and sound of even your own breathe or sounds of world even clock you must not give ears to the sound.
Third your eyes must be looking forward in one line in the line of nose and do not divert to the vision what comes to you in close eyelids. this is called gazing on infinity. or you may visualise one dott in close eyelids and gaze on it. but while gazing in that line oyu must not look on the side by vision appearing in your close eyelids. This gazing on infinity brigs you the psychic power. this all ye do in cofortable position.
Fourth early minutes of meditation, you must reglerise the breathe. How to do it? just concentrate on breathe.
take breathe in comfortable, no force on breathe in... breathe intake be natural and no force and no pull behind it.
Breathe holding after intake, this be natural and no force to hold on the breathe or no force to breathe out.
Breathe out you must care that no force be put by your body on breathe out. and after that breathe held mst be naturally and in no hurry or no force on it. again the cycle must be repeated in the manner.
Practice this to 15-20 breathe before doing meditation will lead you pefaction in meditation.
When any spiritual meditation normally peepal do take center focal point the Supreme as point Zero instead of the dott.
The conscious when take these step teh ways are opened to other phased the entity guided automatically.
There are open eye meditation techniques too, but you have to master first, then I will tell you about the open eye meditation.
This meditation is total Indian way. and breathe is the key in every meditation.
last i will tell you how to do mantra meditation, coz mantras are those words which impact on chakra and nothing else logic behind it, it connects the chakras to cores.
Breathe is the key regularising which brings you stillness and breathe is only the engine which takes you to psychic height.
and total meditation mustbe done in comfortable position and no stress should brought to you on your body and mind.
Breathe only unite your body mind while connecting to infinity the base of the existance which remain always,
I meditate each and every single day. It helps me with certain issues both mental and spiritual. It's amazing how much it helps.
I do meditation when I am stressed or need to sleep .I use stones to channel my energy threw. Also used chakra to open my mind .
Honorable Aerobella,
meditation is in the base of each relaxing psychic exercise.
I love two type of psychic exercises.
Shavasana leads me to bliss sleep
and other just I float on water in my inner. This both removes stress and pain of my body.
Shavasana include energy hovering and to sleep I remove gazing on center focal point from that exercise and lean into floating on flowing water or flying in the sky leads me to fall to dreams within few minutes.
Yes I do sometimes, to clear my mind. I like clear away negitive feelings from stress, I feel that mediatation helps alot.
I do now and then. Unfortunately, my house isn't always quiet enough! But when I do, its really great!
No special rules on meditation. To answer your questions:
Yes, I meditate. I wish I had more time for it/ set more time aside for it than I do. I meditate for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it occurs in the middle of the work day to get focused and to shut out all the distracting thoughts. Most often, when it's not in the middle of the day, it's to reflect on my goddess and to separate from the physical action of the day. I find without meditation that it's hard to stop thinking about work. So I do it to relax. Thirdly, I meditate very deeply prior to astral projection. Meditation is the way down, so to speak.
There are no special rules, but some of the things I find helpful:
1. a clean environment clear of clutter.
2. minimal distraction from all others. (roommates, animals/ pets, children, etc)
3. darkness.
4. minimal electronic distraction/ interference.
5. soft music.
I prefer music that I don't normally associate with waking life. So my normal choices are out the window for meditation music. I find a lot of new age music helpful to me personally, but I've known people that meditate to Metallica's Master of Puppets.
Electronic distraction / interference refers to having electronic devices nearby. I find that if the TV is running or if there is something electronic in the same room, I often have more trouble focusing on just my own energy. Weird, but true.
I don't live with others, so distractions are at a minimum. Obviously, if you're going to be working inward, someone screaming your name is not going to be helpful.
Besides the basics, you can work with different settings and see what works for you. There are a few good articles on this site that talk about meditation and some techniques for meditation.
There are several ways to meditate. I usually meditate right before bed when I'm at my calmest. I try to burn some incense, especially Yin Yang (Bought at wal-mart actually). It helps me clear my head and center myself. I always close my eyes and try to imagine an eye on my forehead opening and looking around.
Some sit up while meditating, other's lay down. I usually lay down. It just all depends on how it works for you. Good luck with meditating! ^^
I started my own path, for my own reasons, like yourself. That said, any form of meditation is also a personal thing.. and, you have to find what works for you.. read, take stuff on board and, see what works, for you..
I have tried meditating before, but boy did I feel lost! But to me, meditating is equivalent to relaxing you mind, body and spirit, even if it's for a moment. I don't read up of traditional mediation rituals.. I don't like rituals.
My mind is always in a turmoil. And being a student, it makes it harder for me to have peace, especially inner peace. I find that relaxation to me, is doing the things that I find joy in.. Be it reading, going online, getting myself involved in arts, or perhaps even writing.
One way I find useful, is when I go to temples, I kneel before the deities, and when my forehead touches the ground, I send out the "negative" energies into the ground... Or even when standing on the ground on bare feet... Send out whatever is bugging you. I love Mother Nature, and I know that she can "recycle" these things, so it's all back to her...
Meditating in a lotus position is out for me. There's no way I can still my mind... I'd prolly burst out laughing.. So yeap.. Whatever brings me joy works pretty well..
Yes, I meditate. Not often, Maybe what, 3 times a week? I don't know. I enjoy it. I do it for relaxation purposes. I have a stressful job and it helps a lot. A clear mind/conscience is a great pillow at night.
I meditate by kneeling and focusing on breathing excersises and slowly bring my breathing to nothing. Once you get to that stage you feel your mind start to float and you then begin to focus on what you want. Thats how i was taught and what works for me.
I do Meditating sometimes I can't sleep, It helps me a lot.
I have meditated ever since I was a child. To relieve pain and stress and for 15 years to be able to get at least some sleep or relaxation.
The method I used was focussing my view on a point far away, and slowly taking the strain of my eyes, by unfocussing. Just letting my eyes stare into nothingness. Then I just let any thought, sound and whatever go trough me, but slowly but steadily disconnect from those. Till I was comfortably floating on those currents, like one would float on water. It does not really matter if you are sitting or lying down. Just make sure you are comfortable before starting.
(Bows)
You musttry breathe technique of ida and pingala.
In this method you just sit straight but very easy on chair or folded legs (no rules but sittingstraight will lead you involved)
Just close eyelids in no bright no dark room with natural light from windows or door. No other music or instrument and no taling around or in the room.
gaze very easy and gentle ly in one line in front through one dot (zero) but very easily and relaxedly, this will save you from sleep.
Now you must inhale from your one nostril very softly and exhale from other nostril the same softly. If your nostril is blocked, no matter, in trying this the both nostril will open fully for breathe within 5 minutes. and will give you stillness. longer the practice deeper your involvement and after few time you will find that your both breathe in and breathe out starts from both nostrils. this is the meditation, and now from this stage, you have to divert your concentration from nostril to the vision which you are gazing from start of meditation...
meditation is most effective if you d thsi for an hour least... daily. and within few days you will master the meditation and then will start experiencing the psycho-spiritual with the helpof conscious and stillness in the meditation.
In meditation you have to cut from outer world and using all your senses shut or not attaining yor surroundings.
This is the nice thing to do. within few days the causal and subte effects will start growing in you.
Theres lots of different things i use meditation for .I do a guided meditation every monday at a mediumship group , it,s very helpfull for getting into higher states of awearness , and becoming awear of other entities that are close to you . It also helps you to know yourself , when you become concious of your mind and your thought patterns , you become more awear of things that arn,t you . You become more open to guidance from higher planes any visions or knowledge is more easily recognised . I also do chakra meditations using visulisations and crystals that correspond to the colours of the chakras . This is very good for centering yourself and making you feel better . But my fav meditation is before i go to bed , i know alot of people say don,t meditate whilst laying down but i find it really helpfull if you do open your awearness and then drift off . For some reason i find it more easy to dreamwalk and maybe project ( if i,am lucky ) , open your link to your spirt and let you body relax into sleep . Sounds easy in theory doesn,t always work .
I medidate sometimes. Just close my eyes and breath, letting everything around me go and just being.
I don't think anything special is needed to just sit and breath. Air, yeah air is important. That is pretty much it, for me.
I do sometimes meditate just to breath a little and get away from everything. A lot of things tend to get to me and i tend to get very stressed and meditating in some way always helps me.
.. being entred & ignoring any forms of distraction is the hard part, yes. But, it's achievable.
using all senses concentrated on breathe takes us away from any traction and remaining work done by focus in one line through dot by gazing...
its not hard its done in relaxed position and you will find the gazing takes your senses away from your surround
at start yoru concetration is on two matters one is your focal in one line in front through one concentrated dot. coz the dot is your gazing point. and other is concentration on breathe in relaxation. but after 15 minutes your concentration on breathe fades and your concentration starts brushing your chakras. but at that time i prefer your concentration divert to focal instead of breathe pipe, coz in focal your mass of dark energy go out and brought through third eye. but the breatrhe should not be stucked by your thought.
if you don't divert your concentration from breathe after the 15-20 minutes, it start growing power of your chakras. then the meditation become pranayam yoga. :)
Coz you will start your conscious moving your inside only instead of in front in one line. and conscious when starts moving inside only, then it become part of divine pranayam. yes concentration along with breathe in and holding and breathe out impact on whole 7 chakras.
Even though your body takes breathe till the dome, your energy and conscious goes to the range of crown to route chakra. possibility of purification of your blood too is there from anuy blood sickness in meditation. coz in meditation energy and conscious moves. It impact on brain very positive in function regard.
I think when you breathe much, then heart have to function more by having liquidity of blood much. but it strenous to brain coz brain do not require less thick blood. and when you meditating the breathe have filtered oxygen nicely to the heart and bloodcell take oxyge very easily and no stress on heart in oxygen regard and it taken to brain and other body part nicey and the purification of blood too done nicely in the meditation. no much liquid blood, with sufficient oxygen and brain is healthy and pressureless and fresh.
I like to meditate by deep breathing, sometimes very quick shallow breaths to force hallucination...or a type of vision...or dream.
I like to use the meditation excersises in Libre E of the texts of Thelema
This may seem odd but I do meditate when i read a book to draw myself fully into my imagination
i meditate using breathing techniques, thats all. i do it twice a day for anxiety reasons.
I very rarely meditate these days. In the early 1970's I used to meditate a lot.
Regarding Technque: As a great many posters have stated, the technique I used may not work for everyone because we are all different.
I tried simply breathing in and out at first. The book I read at the time [this would be the winter of 1970-71] spoke a lot about focus. "Focus on the center" and "breathe in and out". You were also supposed to count your breaths in fours. In & out 1. In & out 2. In & out 3. In & out 4. In & out 1. and so forth. Once you caught on to the rhythym of the breathing that most relaxed you, you could stop the counting and only focus on the breathing in and out. I got to the point where I could do that for about 20 minutes and feel totally relaxed and fresh afterwards.
Why do it? I am in the same boat [I think} as Rabynoin and Magic25UK. I did it "to relax" to "clear my mind" to rid myself from "negative feelings" and "stress".
I also did it because I was going through a very difficult time in my life. I had spent a year in Vietnam and got back to the US in March 1970. I was having flashbacks and occasional nightmares. I had difficulty sleeping and began a program of self-medication to get to sleep. Someone in my life suggested mediation and the book I eventually purchased. It changed my direction in life. Meditating right before bedtime became for me, as Rabynoin so eloquently put it a "great pillow at night". The nightmares stopped. The flashbacks did not stop but they occurred far less frequently.
I stopped meditating at some point because the personal need had ended. I did do it one other time that I recall. In 1979 I was doing a play called "Butterflies are Free". I had a small part in it. I played the Director boyfriend of the girl played on Broadway and in the movie by Goldie Hawn who is friends with the blind but fiercely independent star of the play. As we rehearsed, the Director kept telling me that I was not "cool" enough. And no matter what I tried as my inner thoughts, he would simply say "still not cool enough". So one night before I went on I meditated for 20 minutes and went on stage. The Director said "that was great; what did you do differently" I told him, "I am not going to tell you, but I promise I will do it every performance". And I did.
I mediate when I need to clear my mind and center my thoughts.....
it keeps my emotions in check... and keeps me from being implusive.
When I meditate, I light five Black candles, sent them around me in an inverted pentagram, light some incense, shut off the lights, do a few ritualistic prayers, then sit for a few hours.
Meditation can take many forms, and can be individualistic I think. I have always had a hard time quieting my mind, but it takes determination. I have read it gets easier and easier. And monks chant to keep focused. I've done the om mani padme hum chant and it does help to keep your mind focused. It's just basically relaxation and quiet time, and letting your body relax, while opening yourself to the love all around and permiating your body/self. =)
I don't have time to mediate. My life is full raising six kids and working a full time job.
Meditating for me is detaching my mind from my body and just travel into myself to find answers,
