In your mind what is power?

The ability to direct and maintain your life as you want to.That is what true power is to me.Of course,it can never be 100%,but it can be damn close.Of this,I am convinced due to my own experience.

I agree with Oceanne, it is the ability to control one's own self and destiny.

Power over others, while highly desired by most, is a mere illusion of the mind. At least in my opinion.

i have hungered for power all my life because of what it can give you.
to shape and control things,to make things the way you want them to be and having your fate and destiny in your own hands plus having a hold over someone and then controlling them is fun too.

so to me,power is a prize,a goal but not the ultimate goal,the power will be the means to that ultimate goal.

the ability to focus your energies on a singular point an be able to see what our furte and past ar simotaniously or to have gifts of empathy astral travel distant viewing and so on It's the gift we are born with just how we develop them that make them a power

And that is a scary comment.I say this because most of the time,peeps cant even halfway control their own lives,yet they feel they can control anothers.

Power to me is not the amout one has, but how one contains, and weilds the power one has. By that I mean efficency. Too many people claim to have power of mystical sources, I find that most claim more then they apply said claimed powers. Power is do.. not idle.

I agree with oceanne, however to have power, is to have control not only over the general concept of self, but over the molicules and base elements that form the self, that all things might be able to have solid balance when applied.

if its power over the sword, then you will know the foundations of the work you are studying and every muscle in your body will be trained daily to master the technique and power.

if you are to master science, then you must know every element, you must know without a doubt what occurs and why in every form of combination.

if you are to master the various forms of magick, you must know why, how, when, where, what causes it to work, you must train the body to withstand all environments, you must have a will that trancends even your own death when it comes to what you would master, but first it starts with the self. you cannot progress if you havent got control over every cell in your body.

Power:

The "wanting" or "desire" to learn, thus obtaining knowledge. Applying the knowledge becomes a form of wisdom. Continued learning by the initial want, need or desire creates a cycling of events within ourselves, and if passed along, within others.

I don't personally find ability the reason or meaning of the term as asked. I do however know that ability and application go hand in hand whereas a need for control comes forward.

So, power can be whatever Your Truth or Opinion of it is.

In my humble opinion, the fact you thought of and asked such a question of yourself and our peers is a power all it's own.

Total control over everything....then I suppose it would have to be Total power ^^

LOL woah.Now wouldnt that be something? To have total power...never in a million years.And I think that those who dont realize that 100% control or power is ..well,pretty much unobtainable are in for a sad and frustrating life.

i can see how an ordered life would spare power. Very reasonable post.

Having things in order and a semblance of balance with those around you.

The only thing I can attempt to control in reality is my self and even that is not an absolute.

The ability to control fear, either by removing it, or increasing it = power.

Knowledge reduces fear, so knowledge is power.

Surely my opinion on this is as well known as Upir's opinion on vampirism.

Unfortunately, power is also money

Of course, money represents power as it gives you the ability or at least the illuision of power to control your fate and possibly the fate of others but like all things it depends on a persons point of view.

To answer the question, "What is power?", Dabbler gave a perfect example. He said "Power is also the ability to set matter into motion. to engage matter kinetically."

So if we look at this from a "telekinetic" approach, true power would be moving or effecting an object by thoughts.

Seeing how I've done this, and studied it, I came up with a simple verse you can remember that will help explain it.

To put it very simply, you cannot have power over anything without first letting it have power over you. Most never learn this, thus the reason so many never move or effect objects with their thoughts.

In a nutshell, power would be the freedom to choose every thing you may do in life and beyond death.

Well I guess it depends on your beliefs but for me it is controlling my body and my own destiny.

For me, Power is the ability to be an Individual, without being influenced by others. There is a quote that said: "if you don't use your brain, someone will use it for you".

Another quote springs to mind regarding power "absoloute power corrups absolutley", something to keep in mind I think.

This is a quotation from Lord Acton, in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton, 1887:

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

Acton was preceded by William Pitt the Elder, who voiced a similar thought in a House of Lords speech in 1770:

"Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it; and this I know, my lords, that where laws end, tyranny begins."

Power to me is something that only the "strong" can achieve. Knowledge of how to achieve it insufficient. Only if one knows how to utilise and practice what they know will gain power. In whatever form. Gaining power, good or bad, always involves the invocation of the will within. Whether one uses it for good or bad means is only witnessed at the end.

I agree with this to a certain extent.. But there are great people who have utilised what was within them for the greater good. So, yeap, well power is within each one of us.

power only corrupts the weak,which is to me almost all of humanity,in the right hands(like evil) it can be a very useful tool.The power to shape yours and everyone else's future,to do anything you want with no consequences(well none that affect you) is power,though not the ultimate power.

To me power means being able to influence the actions and thoughts of others.

I think power is the ability to control people and events.

To me Power is the vital force which help us to act and do desired cause and effect...

Personally power is defined as an ability to control your own destiny and not let it fall into another's hand.

Power would be control over others through words or abuse. neither in my opinion is good.

Power is the rate at which work is performed or energy is converted.

The more you work on your life being the best possible life it is the more power you have in controlling your own life and destiny.

The more you put into life the more you get out.

I too agree with Oceanne, power in mind is the ability to control your own destiny, your own decisions and to keep it that way. Of course as stated above controling others could be added to that statement but then you have to be very carefull due to the old adage, power corrupts.

POWER? To seek mind control and thus be the author of ones own destiny is a common mistake.

To gain true power and control one must ride lifes ebbs and flows like a reed in a torrent. Enhancing the energy that surrounds us, be it Psi or tangible.

Trying to control all will lead to failure or being broken, for in truth that mind is just an intelligent monkey. This is why so many that dig too deep go mad.

Power to me is being able to shape yourself and the world around you into something that more suits yourself.

I would have to agree with being able to controll one's destiny.

No matter how much power you have, there will always be someone more powerful. And I agree with those here who have said power is just an illusion; as long as you have the scant few inches between your ears you have the power to hate, love, be angry or be at peace. Power over others is just an ego trip.

In my mind power is the term which makes things happen own way.

I agree with the post above mine here. I think that power is absolute in everything we need and say and do. Negative power is also present too, so it's important to make sure you are doing the right things in your life.

Power is having the ability to control ones fate and destiny. It is what allows people to overcome their fears and conquer all who stand in their way! However, it will affect your state of mind. Too much power makes you arrogrant.
