Astral projection is basically an out of body expieriance..... the astral form typically is said to contain ones soul. The process is traveling to the astral plane and can be done while awake, lucid dreaming, and meditation.

The astral plane, also called the astral world or desire world, is a plane of existence according to esoteric philosophies, some religious teachings and New Age thought.... It is not considered the same as here where we are now.

There are many ways to look at Astral Projection...Some would say it is a projection, others would say you already are there...I would be glad to take specific questions on this subject, as each mind has a different difficulty with it's concept and understanding of it...

i have done some astral projection myself, and i can do it without trying sometimes. in these travels i have met people before meeting them in person and have learned some future events to come. your mind must really be clear and i would suggest getting a book about it before you start. i read a very large book about it thats how i learned to do it, and also learned i was doing it before and not knowing it. many times it is done with drugs as well

Asteral projection is the seperation of the body and spirit. In this freed state the sprit is free to travel to diffrent places or even dementions.

Astral projection is, as has been previously stated, an out of body experience. I would love to have the ability to perform this. Some of the above posts seem to have some very good information on it though.

There are a couple of authors who can teach the basics of astral projection.Of course effort is required.Any book written by Denning & Phillips is a winner to me.They have atleast two books on astral projection, one is just called astral projection I believe.I own almost every book they have written together.

They also have a kit for one of the books that you can purchase, this kit contains an audio tape that is basicly a hypnosis tape to help you into astral projection once your ready and at the level the book tells you to prepare for.And it also includes a piece of cardboard which has a slight illusion effect that when stared at and spun can ease you into a trance like state...I own the kit.

As far as where you can go and what you can do "out of the body". there are no limits and no boundaries that I have ever seen.

Oh it is definitely real. Yes I have experienced. My experience happened during an meditation session. I reached a level I had never reached before and truthfully it scared the shit out of me and I stopped meditating for a few months afterwards but back to the subject....

I felt like I was no longer sitting, I felt like I was beginning to hover but not my body this feeling came from within. Then I began to float upwards, my eyes was closed, when I opened them I was near the celling and I was looking down at myself. OMG I freaked out, shit I thought I had killed myself some kind of way but it was the freaking out and losing that focus that yanked me back into my body.

The Astral Plane is a place where the strength of the will determines power and strength, apart from natural ability.

Change your form, fly around, throw fireballs around (and hopefully not hit anything too powerful; fighting on the Astral Plane is a difficult thing; many things can overpower you)

I suppose, if one's ability to manifest is strong enough, one could even shape at least a small part of the Astral Plane into whatever one wanted, perhaps creating a mate, if only for the time you are walking the Plane.

and now that i'm not suck on a treo700p for typing, i can respond to this a little more in depth.

astral projection is very real and i have had some pretty interesting personal experiences with it. again, i have the beginner's primer in the members articles page here. to actually answer your question, it feels a bit like floating when your body and spirit separate. there is a sense of vertigo initially and that can scare the crap out of anyone.

there are some experiences where people have found themselves floating above their body and that's an unsettling sight for most. it has to do with the fact that we associate the physical body and its ability to interface with the world as reality, so suddenly not being in it tends to freak us out.

most of it is done via meditation and learning to let go of the physical body. there are plenty of good books, i recommend Edain McCoy's "Astral projection for beginners".

I will tell of what I have learnt. it is possible the way to begin is through focus. meditation is a good one but one needs a point to meditate. ie to open the head shakra. once opened then one needs to learn how to leave ones body. this is not so hard its the opening that is hard. the way to open is to push with your mind out of your temples and out of the place were the third eye is. this then in time with focus or if you like meditation will force open the head shakra. then its just a matter of moving through the color gates fist blue the red the purple i belive ;) wial keeping a triangle of focus from your temples that then go to the point of infinity from the head shakra. the problem then once this has been accomplished is to close the shakra so as one can dream with out intrusion. the way to do so is to when your away shut your eyes and imagine that there is smoke coming out of the shakra. pull the smoke into your head untill there is no smoke left. then close the door behind the smoke. it is best to tie your self when traveling. if you do not you can get lost and find it hard to come back. I am still learning and there are others who can when the shakra is open I belive induce you to sleep and put things in your mind or even make you leave your body. still speculation on that one. but yes astral travel is real I think. more so than we realise. I must learn more.

I also thought that controlling dreams and astral projection were two different things. Isn't controlling dreams called lucid dreaming and not astral projection? I was also under the impression that astral projection was simply projected your astral self out into the world...this world. I've never done much research on the subject, however. This is a very interesting thread, but there are many conflicting viewpoints. Good luck in your search for the answers. I'll be checking back myself for more on this topic. *grins*

Both astral & ethereal projection is possible. As is astral & ethereal projection with transforming capabilities. I have done them all & can do it on a whim. I am also capable of being called forth by those who know how & at those times its 50/50 chance of my having control over it.

Astral projection or astral travel refers to the purported experience of a person's conscious awareness leaving the physical body to observe the world from an independent and objective point of view. This is also referred to as an out-of-body experience.

i look at astral projection as placing your essence in an astral plane.. and yes it is both a different world...but also the same.. look at it as a way of two places existing together, but slightly out of phase with one another so that neither is aware of each other.

Astral projection doesn't have too many limits that I've found. One can enter the astral plane and re-emerge in a position of the astral plane that is adjacent to this world. My personal opinion is that one's etheric body makes an appearance in the physical plane, but it's not something that is sensed by many people in this world.

Perhaps one of the explanations for ghosts is simply a traveling soul wandering about. The only major key is to relax the mind and from there, the consciousness is free to roam in whatever manner to just about any location.

The separation in many senses feels like a splitting of the consciousness. Somebody mentioned to me that one must learn to close the door. That is correct. When one returns to one's body it's also important to ground, center, and cut off any ties to the astral plane that might be lingering around. Lots of people eat or drink something after astral travel to help ground themselves in reality again.

Not ALL dreams remembered at night are astral travel. As a matter of fact, few of them are actual "astral projections".

Astral projection is a projection of your consciousness within your energy body. Dreams that you remember that are very vivid fall under the category of lucid dreaming, not astral travel.

For the last time, astral projection is not a sleeping skill. You don't astral project when sound asleep. That is lucid dreaming or uncontrolled OBE.

Suave:> The whole myth about waking someone up out of astral traveling and killing them is nothing but a myth. Sure, it's unsettling as hell when someone breaks you out of astral travel mode and snaps you back into your physical body, but it doesn't kill you. It might leave you feeling very ungrounded, but the easy cure is to ground and center.

No, it's not wrong, it simply means that you are unconsciously projecting vs controlled astral projection. Yes, there is a difference between the two.

Asleep it is called lucid dreaming. You control where you go in your dreaming life. Astral projection is the awareness while still conscious method of OBE. They are two methods of accomplishing the same thing. So no, you are not wrong, but what you do is not considered astral travel. It is considered lucid dreaming.

However, I suppose that lucid dreaming still falls under the umbrella as soul travel, so therefore it is a method of astral projection as well. Given that consideration, then yes, lucid dreaming achieves the same end as conscious astral projection.

Me? If I'm asleep, I'm asleep and rarely remember much less can control what goes on. To each their own.

Jenova, Thanks for waking me up on what my problem is. I am trying too hard, in regards to your post of 9 out of 10 times. While still new to the astral projection thing I have managed it more than once but I assume that would be considered uncontrolled OBE. Simply because I really had no control it just seemed to happen. However, I have made the distinction between lucid dreaming and controlled OBE's, if that is the right way to phrase it. I am currently reading Mastering Astral Projection by R. Bruce and B. Mercer.

There is a movie called "Hearts in Atlantis" (I think?) that is about a hidden government program training psychics or people with the potential to be psychic to work for the government. Who knows that they don't still have a program like that running today?

Hey now, the topic of discussion is Astral Projection. I'd hate to see a thread get ruined by starting a political discussion. Now proceed...

Just a concerned citizen...

Astral Projection is a form of movement from one place to another, it can happen on an astral plane, or it can be done on this earth, i have been to many states, countries, and continents by means of astral projection, most times i arrive somewhere, i have a deja vu that i have been to a certain place before, plus, i have drawn images from other countries later finding out (in years in advance) that i have drawn the exact same thing when my physical body has not been there before, it is quite fascinating when you learn to control it. and fun.

Um, discussing government entities that employ the use of psychics is hardly POLITICAL. *sigh*

One of my favorite places on the Internet that disappeared a few years ago was called the Chaos Station. It was an online forum that explained and created a virtual and astral world. This station explored 8 aspects of itself and was in fact, an astral location. By group consensus, it existed and I visited it several times and saw people in passing that I wasn't able to "contact" probably because they didn't expect to see me there. The Chaos Station no longer exists, but for all intents and purposes, it was an astral space that was created by a few and shared by many.

In it, I was able to detect objects that were left on the astral plane by others and it was a good exercise in what is and isn't possible on the astral realm.

I did an astral projection.
It's very dangerous and deadly...
Do not try it before you read at least 3 reliable manuals...
Moreover,it has no use-stay a live it's better,it's not a good feeling...at all...

Edgar Cayce, the sleeping profit has alot to say about astral projection. Also the author Jess Stearn has written about it. There is a great book entitled Messages from Michael, which goes in depth about the Ouija board, and spirits that come through. Astral travel is a difficult task, which can also be dangerous if the thread is broken. Its a lot to explain, but the thread comes from the solar plexus, and is like your lifeline. I personally am a bit frightened of astral travel as I have heard terrible things can happen if your thread breaks, and you are "lost." There are a lot of books about it! I dabble in a lot of psychic things :)
