it has been said that if a species doesn't evolve and adapt that it is doomed to extinction. i have heard some people on here that have a dead set idea of how a vampire is. i personally believe that there must be more than just your average ones.. such as the energy feeding instead of blood. i know some of you feel that is how it is...BUT.. my question to the others.. is that if you believe that vampires can only have one kind of thirst..that they are essentially all in the same area... do you believe that the "traditional" or old school vampire is exempt from the idea of without progress and adaptaion that it is doomed to total oblivion? or shouldn't even a vampire have to change? opinions? thoughts?

There are many people here that claim to be of different vampiric ancestory. From psy down the line. Very few here I think that believe that they need blood to "live" on.

there was a thread about thirst and i recall some people acting like that was the ONLY way.... i'd like to think that in this day in age, when blood disease such aids or whatever else is lurking around, that we would have changed to a point where we weren't at such a risk of killing ourselves off in the process.

Drakoni, you bring up an excellent point. Vampires, like all creatures, adapt. Though I don't claim to have been born a vampire, I know that my primary need is to feed off the energy of another. And with the advent of blood-borne diseases, energy feeding is a little safer in some aspects and possibly more dangerous in others.

I'm not saying that the plague wasn't as deadly then as AIDS is now, but you catch my idea. Vampires like all creatures adapt or die out.

Evolution favours those who are the most adapt to changing to evolving enviroments. The sanguinary vampyres exist to drink human blood, and although human blood has always has been contaminated with viruses, the vampyres have adapted over the years as they are still around. With the addition of AIDS to the virus contaminents, there has been more awareness of "safe feeding " habits. The point being there is no vanishing point expected in the future for the sang vamps.

about this AIDS thing's effect on vampire. i think these creatures are smart enough to know if their victim is contaminated with any sickness or not. maybe some of them could even get their supply of blood on blood banks which provides safe blood.

hmmm black on black very dark but sang just a warped fairy that has damned there soul by demanding a memory rather than asking for it.
personaly I think you all started as little tadpoles with big teeth hehe. funny thing is all one had to do was look up and ask it is alway granted to those who can see and all that have the blood can ask. why demand that is my question.

Vampyres do not drink from collected blood from banks, at least none I know. This has been noted in fiction but decanted blood is just not the same. The essence that is so exquisite is gone from this blood.
As to the above post, I do not understand what it is being said, except we do not "force" anyone to provide blood, we have doners who willingly and lovingly provide us with their blood.

its not the forcing some one. its the changing of mind to the next level with out asking. I have had this conversation now with a few sang and even been told I am one. well I have some news to the one who told me this. if I hold the blood of the ones who left as do all who can get genetic memory then why is it that I like all fae can just ask for the memories and the moon will furnish them. truly I have also been told that to go the next level after asking is to open the gate so something very very nasty.
and by quite a few now too who I dare not talk about out of respect. I would like to say I have learnt a hell of a lot about my self here and about what you guys are on about. but if something can be asked for then is that not the way to go about it.
it is writen in every document of religous and spiritual importance through out history that to gain power the easy way is to damn ones soul. and all that is on these pages are the gates of 13. fires torment horror. most of the time unless I see a happy page I turn the pics off becouse it hurts me to think people are so lost. I wonder though is there a way back for the ancient. I had a hint once in the far red of the stream were you ask for the memories in the first place. but I am not to give it unless asked I think and maby that is fair as well for that to would make it easy.
life was ment to be hard thats why the labyrinth in the first place.
only if you deserve the memories do I think you will be granted them by asking to be honest and I think thats the way it should be.

All things change, nothing is constant. What holds true one day could be a lie the next. We all know this. So yes, I believe that Vampire changes and evolves just like everything else. Change or die.

As the guy who started the forum topic re: the Vampire's "Thirst," the reason I did so was to discover what exactly most here believed it was that "drove" them most. As you mentioned, this seems to primarily be the two common areas of either blood and/or energy. The third "thirst" most often mentioned in the thread I started was... sex.

As I have tried to point out on occasion at this website via the actual historical evidence, the blood-drinking, "undead," vampire was never an historical reality but a later vilification of a race of very unique males that was certainly Human enough to produce children by the women they successfully seduced and pleasured to "exhaustion," resembling the symptoms of Tuberculosis. Hence the name by which they were also known: Nosferatu (Plague Carrier).

As to the question of "evolution"...

Where no adaptation is necessary, none need occur. As this race of males is well described throughout history since before the Sumerian Empire, can easily be traced as kings/pharoahs in both the Sumerian and Egyptian Empires, is found to have also existed in the early Christian Church in Asia Minor (present-day Turkey) and Eastern Europe from whence also the first Slavic "vampire" stories originate, it becomes quickly apparent that they have remained as they have always been since before the rise of Human Civilization.

In fact, if the initial accounts of the "Fallen Angels" and Anunnake are to be believed, their original forefathers actually taught Humankind the skills, sciences, arts, etc., that began Earth's civilizations.

Thus, they are who they are... and they have remained thus ever since. The same characteristics that described them anciently (as far back as written history began) remain with them still today... and their singular "Dark" Gift of unlimited male sensual capacity remains their most defining and identifiable trait... and cannot be mimicked or otherwise faked (unlike the fictitious traits by which they have been vilified: fangs, blood drinking, etc.).

The only adaptation forced upon them... as evidenced in the Book of Jude vs. 13 and 19 (yes, the Bible)... has been the isolation forced upon them by an ever-burgeoning, sex-negative Society that has vilified them and persecuted them through history and through at least two near-genocidal slaughters.

The fact that is place exists proves we adapt..granted not all here are vampires, but..the fact that we seek our own kind..we seek out knowledge to help ourselves and others like us. It proves we have and will continue to adapt and survive. This place serves to answer questions..questions = knowledge,knowledge=growth..hence we evolve.
And change and ...continue..as we have always done.Perhaps in the shadows but we shall always continue..I can promise ya that.

Personally I don't think vampires have adapted at all.

I think the term 'vampire' has adapted and expanded to include a lot of other creatures/folk who would otherwise have simply been called something else.

I wouldn't say that being able to feed in a different manner would make them evolved. It would be more of a distinctive trait, as there are many types of feeding habits. Just as some vampires feed off of energy and still eat normal food that can't make them more evolved than a human who only needs to rely on food to survive. If anything it would be the other way around.Usually evolving means being able to do without something that was needed before. If vampires need more than humans then that would mean they were taking a step back in the evolution chain.

As for different feeding types I've heard people tell me they can feed off of music. I think that sounds great but I wouldn't say they were evolved. I think for a vampire to evolve he might only have to rely on one food source such as energy and nothing else or wouldn't have to rely on it at all to survive.

A vampire, is not a species of it's own.

That needed to be said.

since I see it as a mental thing, I don't really see there being much evolution to it.

AntiEveryone:

If being a vampire is simply a "mental thing," something that results from "choice" alone... then what "choice" would result in having someone "become" a vampire? Drinking blood, perhaps? Is that all it is? Anyone who likes raw meat is a vampire? Or, anyone who is a cannibal is also a vampire?

What "choice" makes one a vampire to you?

As much as I would love to consume blood, the diseases ARE out there, so I have focused primarily on my more psychic side to feed me.

You see, these diseases were not around much in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, times where one could feed on anyone without fear.

I consider my vampirism to be an evolution from that of a normal human's state of being. Very much a state of both philosophical and poetic grace and one hell of a powertrip.

There are and will always be stronger things than I, but I firmly believe that I am a powerful entity.

I may be a bloodsucking monster at the core, but I am also very loving and caring. It is a fine line between predatory and craven to peaceful and humane.

to blacksnowflake, i fully agree with what you said about obtaiing something easily.. and LiquidSaint, i like how you put that a vampire requiring more than a human actually puts them farther back on the food chain, that was an interesting point and made me think.. i don't truly consider myself a vampire at all.. the only "feeding" i ever do is when on stage, a crowd's energy of cheering can make me feel so alive that i can give twice as much as i could normally. but if you don't follow the old myth's about vampires..as some here don't..then you don't believe in the super strength, or speed, or any of that.. i know people here believe in extra abilities..which i do as well..but i believe those abilities to be part of human evolution.. but like i was saying, if a vampire is no stronger or weaker physically than a normal human..then i guess truly if you look at it.. a vampire IS truly down a step on the chain, or even simpler..a disadvataged human. i make no pretenses to be here as a vampire.. my true thirst is for knowledge. i have no pretenses, or prejudices already making me feel about anythign a certain way... i deal with facts, and i have much more to learn before i make a final decision on what a vampire is... but one thing that is my opinion, and a very solid belief of mine...UpirLikhyj, if you believe that ANY species has no need to evolve or change with the enviroment.. then that is just diluded.. the human race has evolved and adapted many times over the centuries, whether it be physically or technogically.. they have adapted.. a vampire would have to do the same. same if you believe in lycans and any other sort of creature of the night... if it doesn't adapt, or evolve..it will die.. and there are many species in history that prove this.

My personal theory is that vampires to evolve and adapt to more modern needs. I believe this is how psy vamps came into existence. There has been an evolution which provides vampires to no longer require the medium of blood to transfer energy.

physically differences you can see.. no.. but evolution is a slow process genetically.. but there are already signs in the world that changes are in the works... but it is being hindered... by our own want to survive no matter what.. genetics are important.. bad genes make it hard to move forward..and look at the weaknesses that procreate to this day. i hold no distain for those who wish to live..it's what every animal wants.. but it keeps the prime material from making advances, when bad genes retard the move forward... animals are doing a much better job at it.. natural selection...only the strong survive.. our problem..is we save the weakness's of man, instead of promoting the strong. sounds cruel, and inhuman..but really look at it, and it's true.

I believe that there must be many diffrent forms and types of vampires. Just like humans, diffrent race and culture and hobbies etc. It's something that's a very open and opinionated question and subject. People will always have their own thoughts and ideas, but mine are that there must be diffrent types of them.

Vampires are not a species any more than artists or acrobats are a species. this is becoming Pythonesque. Artemka is correct, it is the definition of a vampire that has changed - and many times. the description of a vampire varies between different cultures anyway, and that is just folklore. I read so many comments on how people here would never tell their family they are vampires - if vampires were a species, or even a race, then all your family and grandparents would also be vampires. so evolution does not come into it - other than in a cultural sense.

Vampires may not be a separate species. After all, they were/are capable of producing offspring with Human females. However, they are a distinctly separate race, at the very least.

Were vampires solely defined by the merely peculiar actions and behaviors capable to be reproduced by anyone else, then any of us by emulating such would be a "vampire," as well. To believe such a thing is to either be completely ignorant of the actual Slavic accounts, or to deliberately ignore all such. Frankly, given the disturbing penchant of almost all here to begin every forum entry with words akin to "I believe/feel/think" rather than, "Here's what I have concluded based on the following evidences...", it is obviously more a case of "ignorance is bliss" than of actual knowledge being ignored. And with most here considering the plot devices of Anne Rice's novels or those of Hollywood movies as true vampire dogmae and doctrine than they do the far-different accounts and descriptions of Medieval Eastern Europe, what else can one expect?!

For most here, unfortunately, they are "vampire" fans seeking to emulate the latest Hollywood-esque fictions, just as Star Trek fans seek to emulate their favorite fictional characters thereon, inventing entire languages (e.g., Klingon), back stories, sub-cultures, etc., in their slavish devotion to all such. Now, while this is fine and dandy given that Star Trek is founded solely upon fiction and no one really believes (let's hope!) that there are really Klingons, Romulans, etc., out there just as Gene Roddenberry created them all, yet the Slavic Vampire has some pretty solid evidences extending throughout Eastern Europe, Turkey, and Syria backing up their actual existence.

Where the Slavic vampire is concerned, there is a wealth of fascinating folkloric accounts from all over Medieval Eastern Europe from all different languages and cultures describing the same sort of being roaming their environs... none of whom were regarded as blood-suckers, etc.

Thus, there is strong evidence that this was not a fictional creature at all and was most certainly not defined solely based on actions and behaviors that could be emulated by anyone else! Were this so, there would be no need to invent a separate name for them and ascribe to them behaviors that cannot be emulated by other Humans.

Anyway... just my latest $.02 worth. ;)

adaptation. everything tends to adapt. people may not know this but when you use germ-x, you get rid of the bacteria on it. well most of it. what you do not know is the more you use germ-x the more the bacteria adapt to it and they change form.

For vampires i believe that there is more then one thirst. people tend to go for the blood thirst habit most because the stories, the legends what most people have come up to believe about vampires that they must feed on blood. Blood on the other hand is powerful, its seductive in its own form to some which makes people believe more into it rather then pyschic vampirism which energy is taken from its victims.

I don't really think we can 'evolve' or have evolution take a go at us...usually it happens when there is a need for it. And are we reallly that much of a species of our own, that we can just evolve?

I think a vampire needs to evolve over the years to stay unhidden and undetected, especially when you can't find a willing donor.

All life mutates or evolves, like the human who is bitten, then awakens to vampire, and the changes they make to adapt to who and what they,ve become, the choices they then make as to how they want to live their vampiric lives, the more we learn the more we grow, life be it normal or supernatural,is in constant evolution.evolution is inevitable,if we dont evolve we will die.no question.

Yes vampires have definitely evolved....since the outbreak of HIV/AIDS, we have come to realise that you cant just drink anyones blood....also the hunger may consume us, but we cant go out and merely grab the next body around and stick a sharp object in them and retrieve the blood, that would be considered attempted murder.....

Vampires do not change in year physically.
As a kind they do not evolve (like they can get used to sunlight) Not at all. But each vampire evolves himself. As the years pass by, the vampire gains powers, his mind gets stronger and so on... This happens individually, same like you won´t find a two humans to have exactly the same skills.

PS: forgotten to mention... Vampire´s body can change a bit. The older the paler.(thats, of course, because they dont face sunlight at all)
But you can see even more changes. Their sight, the way they are looking, reflection in the eyes as if they could see right inside of you. The ancients are really amazing, if you are able to endure the first impression, which can be "a bit"...terrifyeing.

I don't believe that Vampires have evolved. I believe that people misconstrue the fact that they get stronger.(vampires) Their powers get stronger as they "age" and feed. This could be perceived as evolution, but it is different.

vampires could evolve i think because as stated above, they could become extinct if they don't... but how about the theory that human came from evolved apes? why is there still apes if they had already evolved into humans, and look, they're not extinct.

same as goes to vampires, they could evolve in different ways and adap to nature... but who knows what really are the changes they had undergone?

If you are talking about modern beliefs and 'subcultures', then of course, any idea as such can evolve and any philosophy attached to it can evolve with it.

If we are asking whether or not mythological undead vampires could evolve, then we're missing one important factor, evolution requires reproduction and of course life. A dead thing (or undead thing) can't reproduce and therefore can't evolve.

Now the stories and mythology behind the vampires in fiction and folklore have and do evolve the same way any character in those genres evolves with each telling and or writing in order to suit the listener and or reader. Popular fiction is only limited by the imagination and so a vampire could take on whatever form someone wants to write about.

My only real problem with the ideas put forth hear is that often, it seems like there is an underlying comparison between folklore and fiction vampires as they compare to modern 'living vampires'. I have never found the two to be much related beyond name and so find comparisons between the two to not only be confusing but misleading.

being adaptable is one of the best ays i know how to survive. i dont beleive that feeding fromt he blood of tohers is the only way for a self proclaimed vampire to feed. I beleive feeding off of the energy or moetons of a person is a more then acceptable way to do it. and less personal. easier access. In other words, bettr chance of surviving with out all the illusion, hollywood, and lies getting in the way.
if one does not wish to become close with another to feed, they need not do so this way. thats just my opinion. its a way of adapting and in the end surviving.

Well if you need the blood(IF you are a vampire), you should adapt in the way, that you will always have a supply of it, so that should be your adaptation/evolution, to find a way to have what you need. Like humans, they need food, and new ways to grow it, since all comes out of the soil(humans too), and humans always find a way to waste the thing wich is essential for their survival(with that them selves-your blood/food), but the adaptation is to find other means like a lab, clone the meat, clone the vegs........ Clone the blood too?? Yes.....

I believe a vampire can feed off of anything, as long as it is taking from someone else. But that ties into my metaphorical idea of them.

About diseases such as aids and the black pelage and vampires possible dieding out because of them I don’t think it would happen.. These diseases do not affect all creatures. Some are immune to it or are only carriers, why could this not be the case with vampires. For the sake of it let’s agree that vampires need blood. If they aren’t to evolve away from that need of blood, then isn’t there the possibility that they have evolved so that they are not effected by diseases carried in there food?

Honestly If Vampires were to Evolutionize which they would over time. Because What the girl above me said everything evolves. The Vampires would learn to adapt in modern times. Maybe even Walk in the Light without Disturbing their eyes. Historical insight of vampires,... Light doesnt kill them it hurts their eyes because they are so diolated.

first of all, we must understand that vampires can not be taken as "species" It´s not like cats and dogs... This is a curse... it´s always the same and never changes. See it this way. Can a dog change into a cat? Of course not. And that´s why you can´t take vampires as species. They come from humans but they are cursed. A curse can not evolve.

Evolution is a must.
And Vampires are the evolution.
Humans are the prey.
When the prey evolves to better escape the predator. The predator must adapt and evolve to better catch its prey.
Vampires are the next link in the food chain above humans, and will have to evolve inorder to remain there.

I belief every creature evolves. Its only natural. Species that are specialized and stop evolving will eventually die out because the enviroment in which they life changes. Only those that evolve to adapt to the new enviroment will survive.
Since tales of vampires have been around for centuries this would imply that vampire adapt to the changes in their enviroment, to one degree or another.

Hi Y'all,
Well let me tell you my view of it.
First you should know that I was born with enlarged, open rooted Canines, Yes fangs.
Both upper and lower.

When I was 16 there was a fencing accitedent, and I chipped one of my front incisors.
When my Adoptive parents had the chip fixed, they had the dentist flatten my canines. I have since learned to how to put them back.

I am almost 50 years. The picture was taken last year.
As you can see I do not look any where near my age.

When I was about 35, I met a wonderful mate. She has at times been my donor, and had been a "drinker" well before that time.

As soon as I started feeding (Physically, I could always feed on energy) I started to grow again. In the space of 2 years I put on about 2 inches in height and about 20 present additional muscles mass. Much old damage was rapidly repaired.

When I stopped feeding, all of this slowed down again to almost "normal" levels.

I think this is how the sub spices survives and stays hidden in "difficult" times.

Here is my theory of how this works.
It is a symbiosis between certain genetically modified humans and a Retrovirus.

This is how it works (I think).
To become a vamp, of any kind you must have certain modified genes.

If you are exposed to the virus and do not have the modifications, you merely get sick for a while, (like a cold) and then the virus passes on. What it did while you were ill was to install the modifications in your reproductive dna.

If you already have the new genetic information, you become an active vamp of one type or another, depending on what strain of the retrovirus you encountered.

Those of us born with the changes are often a little different than most humans, (the teeth and some enhanced strength in my case, sensitive skin or eyes and other enhanced senses in others)

All of these characteristics are evolutionary adaptations the Virus has made over time.

Even if every single live vamp was destroyed, today, the virus would live on and the syndrome would appear again in 1 or 2 generations as those who carry the modified genes were exposed to the live retrovirus.

The many strains of vampirism are the result of the evolution of the virus wile it lives outside of a host, perhaps in other spices. But I think it needs us to be able to replicate.

T'sarveK

Ahh yes with all these new diseases its pretty bad if we feed on humans, the thing is to me do we see ourselves as better then human? or non human? because we are of a vampiric nature and vampires are we better in a way? i think yes because the lifestyle and senses are so much more better and it makes the world seem much different to a humans perspective.

I believe to a certain extent vampires do evolve. Not like a f'in ape to human, but mostly if not more in tiny areas. But I do not believe that all must evolve (greatly) to survive through the centuries. Every creature is different and I think that vampires can practically survive anything.

To ellaborate the volution of a vampire well it is difficult. Like humans eveolving with supply and demand and technology to make the everyday life easier is the same with the, vampires, the disease can be changed mutated to adapt to current living conditions. then again there was said to be a battle thousands of years ago against humans and vampires who were trying to take over. if you research vampiric history, vampires cant reproduce so they souly live off of us, the cattle that feeds them. if they turned everybody the human and vampire species would die.

Yes I have noticed that many people here favor the traditional sense, and really there's nothing wrong with that, if they choose to take part in the traditions that's fine, but the evolution of vampires has already come and gone, the noticable way that is. We are always changing, except the ways that show through has come already, and the self-realizations have just slipped through lol. The weaknesses of the vampiric race have changed just slightly, also the strengths. Sure there are the fakers out there who so desperatly wish to be a part of this that they force their mind to think it, and so they take it as a second nature thought. But I know there are the new ones that can walk in the day, although still with great difficulty i know, yet the strength that they would have gained during my time has deminished almost completely, they still have the natural senses as before yet are still changed, and therefore the future for them is change, whether it be for the good or vise versa, it will happen again and again.
