I just wanna express a concern towards people's profiles. I'm sure we've all noticed how VR's population has grown drastically over the past few months. There's alot of new people coming in, and don't get me wrong, I love people. I just don't love their profiles as much today. I scroll up and down throughout the 50 page lenght of each one and I don't even wanna rate them anymore. Who am I to judge, but then again, me being someone with very low self-esteem I could strongly say that my profile is alot better that some people's. For once I don't say that I was born in 2000 B.C. and don't go on talking about how I am an Oh So Very Bloodthirsty Mystical Creature and paste three million quotes from various websites to make my profile lenghty. After all, we're all people, and we're all real. Please, new members, write about who you are, not who you want to be. Again, I don't want this to sound the slightest bit offensive, and I'm sorry if it did. It's just something I'm worried about. Cancer and the administrators put too much work and effort into this wonderful site for us to go and screw it over. We can make better use of it.

No. It's not just them. It's crazy. My head hurts when I start reading it. People need to get it through their head. A profile is info about someone. True. How is that so hard to follow?

I came on here before X-mas and about everyone had things about themself not shit that they wish.Be as younger people come on you keep finding more empty profile and profile of people who want to be things.I'm only 14 and i'm on of the young ones on here but yes I agree with you.

I don't have much about myslef put the quizzes I've taken and if you read them they say more about me then what I could tell you.. For I don't like myself really and have low self esteem. but I feel they tell you more about how I really am then what I could type..

FOr one, my profile has took me over 100+ hrs plus.. i knew sod all about html, before i came to this site, and my profile has taught me the wonderful world of html.. it may jusy look at firt that its all BS... but my profile is about me and the person i am.. everything in there reflects about me!!! I have had many great compliments on my profile... I TOOK GREAT LENGTHS OF TIME TO MAKE MINE ENJOYABLE TO READ AND TO GIVE THE READER A INSIGHT INTO ME...... IT IS MY WAY OF GIVING SOMETHING BACK TO THIS WONDERFUL SITE.. IT IS THE LEAST A PERSON CAN DO.... (there's more i could say, but i have covered the main area's)

Or the famous " if you want to know as me" well I may not want to know because if you cant take 5 minutes to say a little something then.. I dont have time either. Profiles are about YOU. Well I'm fairly new but I haven't posted a lot of quotes from other web sites or anything on my profile. Nor have I lied about stuff in my profile. I think mine's pretty good, just maybe too many quizzes. If people express themselves using a few quotes though, I don't really think that it's that bad if that's how they choose to describe themselves.

Quotes are a way of expressing yourself along with songs and things. Those are cool. It lets people see a part of you that the song expresses and the quotes too.

... too many people do not think much about themselves ... so many people think that they are boring or dull or have low self-esteem, and I know that a lot of it has to do with one's upbringing, or things in their lives they've dealt with .. but I'm here to say .....WAKE UP PEOPLE .... believe it or not, what you may not think is interesting about you, others might ...
there is a saying that goes ... (and some of you may have heard this before) One man's trash is another man's treasure! ... does this make sense to anyone? It means that while you may not give y'r self high rates for one reason or another, it doesn't mean that everyone else will too. I can't tell you how many people I have met here on this site who's profiles basically sucked, or had nothing in them only to find them to be a very nice/good intelligent person to talk too. I've had many people ask me how to improve their profiles, add color's and font's and pictures ...
The quizzes are great to start out with, especially when y'r new and don't know what to expect of people .. but as time progress' and y'r on the site a bit, get to know more people, as you grow, well then change it, add more, remove some of the quizzes, tell us more ... here's a suggestion to some ... instead of just putting in the quiz, why not add a paragraph or two before or after it telling the reader WHY? it is that you are or relate to that particular quiz ... don't just load up y'r profile with a bunch of quizzes ...
... and for those of you new to the site reading this who have NOTHING in y'r profile, or say "If you wanna know more, just ask" ... "I have a profile on VF, go check it out" for crying out loud, don't be so damn lazy, writing something for Christ sake, and NO I'm not going to go check out y'r profile on VF ... I'm here at VR for a reason, I don't want to be on VF or any other site for that matter .. if I did, well then I'd be there and not here ...
... to some other’s (no offense honestly) grow up, everyone's got problems, maybe if y'd stop trying to be a hard ass and tried to be a bit friendlier, maybe you might find that there are a few others who have been in the same boat you are in, and they came to shore, in other words, maybe they can give you some advice ... First of all, as one of the newer people to this site....THANKYOU!!! I came here t omeet people, not brush up on Vampire the Masquerade lore. Quite frankly, if I wanted to do that my fiancee has tons of reading material I could borrow. I can see how this sight can be a little intimidating....you want to impress everyone and therefore you hide behind this "really cool" facade that you're some prince of darkness, but really, WHO CARES???? I usually ignore people who's profiles are full of "I drink blood, I'm a freak" BS. (sorry to those that offends) I just want to know who people are, not what character they play in whatever little rpg their into at the moment. Is it so wrong to want to have an intelligent, respectful conversation with someone of like mind? And by "like mind" I mean people who are interested or involved in the Gothic subculture, not people who are going to feed me a story about how much blood they need per week.

I get so sick of profiles that are full of drek and I am beginning to thoroughly detest profiles that are ALL QUIZZES.

Most of the quizzes have been removed from mine; I've still 5 or so present I think, but intersperesed with me stuff. THose may go away soon too. TIme will tell.

As for rating, (without going off in that direction as it's been done before) y'r very right Jason, I've noticed only a small protion of people rating will post soemthing in regards to wanting to see more information ... I do on ocassion, but that too gets old ...

You know folks, I was the first one to start with quizzes and crap in my profile, as we where all a little boring with a few words and couple of poems, then I brought the full lengh quizzes, all to get people to tell more about themselves.

These profiles are looking amazing, with so much about themselves it's like an open novel.

As Jason said... don't like? Rate it low... like it? rate it high....

I appluad everyone who has taken the time to put some effort into their front window display!

Do I have time to read it all? Most times I get through them, some I glaze.. but as Daer said.. it makes even the tunips look good!

My profile is quite long.. But it is about me, not who I want to be.. True, I do have quite a lot of quotes, but except for about 2 or 3 of them they're all in one "chapter". So, don't like it? Skip it. Easy as that :)
The truth is that most quotes are about how I feel and stuff. And I think thats the case with most ppl who use (lots of) quotes. Why typing it yourself, if someone else said it before you? :)

I think that many of the new members have the basic misconception that this is a role-playing site of some sort. So they attach a character to themselves and call themselves an all-powerful mystical being.

Roll 5 + 13, advance a level.

Etc, etc.
They figure it out after awhile though and either (a) don't come back, or (b) stay but don't feel like fixing their profiles.

What I can't stand is seeing a million and one quizzes on peoples profiles. They are always the same, damn quizzes! I tell ya, if I see one more, half-naked, tribal-tattooed fairy/vampire, I'm gonna blow a fuse!

My profile has a lot of information about me. My dreams, my goals and my opinions. However, when i read it I realise I am Queen Turnip ;-)

I think one of the first ratings I got was from MelodyzChaoticBliss who told me I was 'candid' and I appreciated the fact that someone found my honesty about myself a positive thing, instead of making up stories or pretending to be someone whose less-turnip than myself!

I think you are making an excellent point, and might I add being quite brave by putting a widely-believed opinion into words, where others would rather avoid the stigma.

well my profile is perdy damned boring but I'm happy with it .... words dont always give much insite on an individual .. talking with them gives you a better idea!
I just loaded pictures and told people where to find me... to me thats enough, guess I'm just boring that way lol

I have to agree you're absolutely right. It seems a lot of new members here go for quantity rather than quality.
It happens everywhere these days, the most I figure I can do is just ignore those people and maybe they'll figure themselves out. Of course I can't really complain my profile hardly has anything in it. I still don't know what to put up about myself...Maybe I should have someone else write it.

I agree it would be nice to read new profiles that actually told info about the person, i am very intrigued by people and like to study them. It's boring when there's nothing about the person to read. But for people like that, there's low ratings lol.

Good point PinkLust. The ratings do show sometimes if the works been put into a profile, or whether its truthful or not.

Sorry, im sounding like a stickler for 'truthful' profiles aren't I. I personally do not fret over seemingly 'faceless' people lying in their profiles, or partaking in a bit of RP, but from their perspective, it isnt going to win them any friends.

Elly i agree with you on the part that you clarify that profiles need to have info about the person etc...

but also i feel that quizzes sometimes describe some people to exact details and some people might not find the exact words except when taking the quizzes so they post them. i agree that your profile needs to be original as it is representing your persona, but some people are not as knowledgeable of how to do it so they resort to quizzes and quotes that they feel represent them...and if they feel the need to not be original, let them its their profile....if you dont like it, dont rate it and move on....i dont think it is anyone's problem how someone makes their profile...

You are right, it is an easier way to describe yourself using quiz results but still it is much less creative. And a lot of these profiles are absolutely FULL of quiz results. It gets rather old after a while.

Yeah sure quizzes help. But not if your profile is nothing BUT quizzes. As unable one is to explain themselves, that's just a little over the top. They have to be able to say atleast 2 words about themselves. And be honest when you answer this, but would you really read ALL quiz results if there's 30 of them in a single profile, and each is half a page long?

heheh Exactly. Well my profile is tiny at the moment because I'm not sure what to put in. I figure if people really want to get to know me they can read my journal or something. I also have a complete block as far as what to write about myself. I can understand why they put up quizzes, there are cool pictures, it describes them, and it's fast and easy. But come on people let's try to put in a little effort.

Hmm. Again I didn't mean to offend any of you with this. Thera, I know I sound like a hypocrite when talking about the lenght, but when I said they need to be shorter I meant not so filled with spam. And I remember someone said something about quotes.. what I meant is that I went to a teen's profile and there was a quote saying "My son... ". as for other things involving RPG elements, for all of you whom have recieved messages from me you probably noticed that i talk a certain way or what not, i don't mean to seem RPGish when i do it i simply like older ways of expression and sometimes Vampiric ways (well from the Masquerade). i don't reall think that any of you are actual vampires or anything but i will call you as such just because of the general environment of this site. it is call Vampire Rave after all. i think that if you wanna do the RPG what not, please only speak mockingly of whichever RPG it may be but please be yourself, because if you aren'y being yourself then YOU ARE A POSER (no particular offence intened)

so i will be off updating my profile now, please check it out some time and give me an honest opinon ( i get skeptic when people only tell me that the love it, please tell me what was bad and i will fix it in due time)

I don't think a profile need be especially long. I think mine is the perfect length. Anything more, and you run the risk of the viewer not reading it all.

Well Elly now I must admit you are true. I have seen a lots of new profiles and often their just about qiuzes or even theres nothing...whats sometimes worse.
(And to those qiuzes) I understood what u ment...For example I have few quizes in my profile but I have put them there only because they are just like about me.....And Its sometimes is hard and strange to judge others, mainly if you dont know them.

i prefer to keep it simple. there are some profiles here that have ungodly amounts of quizzes and others made up solely of quizzes. i had some on my profile when i started and took them off a week later. a quiz doesn't define who i am and i'd much rather explain who i am. you always have the option of...asking. not that i'm against quizzes but if you are going to use them don't stick them up just to take up space. it's boring. if you use them to blend with other information you have to share with VR, as Dhampir has done, then it's pretty easy to follow and you actually pick up a few things about that person other than 'i'm a dirty vampy slut'. *hand to head*

Dami I don't think that one post was too long at all! I also believe what you is 100% true... Sure some things about you might seem boring but others on here think they are funny. I noticed since I started being nicer to myself that I'm in a better mood. Sure, I still say I hate things about myself but I'm my best friend. I have a few of those quiz things up but that is only until I get some actual information up on myself. I'm trying to learn html and it isn't being very nice to me! :P Who cares what others think! Be yourself... I mean come on! If I can laugh at myself for losing my pants in a crowded hallway at school then anyone can be themself! *shakes head* Yep, done some pretty dumb embarrassing things to myself! Put that is who I am and I need to embrace it... maybe I should add that to my profile!! :P Everyone just needs to remember that the hardest judge in life is yourself...

My two cents time...
Try also, when scanning through the profiles here, to remember that many choose to play a character here as this is the only place, for one reason or another, that they can embody that character. This place give you a safe haven to feel out MANY "taboo" topics.

Those of us that can open ourselves up for everyone (nothing from the peanut gallery Khay!) should feel very lucky that we are comfortable to openly share. For many starting with a character, or quizzes, or fairy/vamp/tattoo pictures, is a safety net. A way of reaching out without the risk. If you read a profile that you are interested in the person behind the stage lights, tell them that you like the work they have put in but you would really love to know something about them. If the profile is too long to be easily read then don't. That person will either change it up if they feel that they are not getting the attention that they were hoping for, or maybe they were trying to appeal to the audience here that also likes long character/quiz profiles. Note the large quantity.

I also would like to jump on the no offence bandwagon. It is just that I am noticing more and more judgement here these days and I think I speak for a lot of people here when I say I came here not to be judged harshly.

I don't really think that anyone really is trying to be judgemental of anyone else ...

I just get tried of the "If you wanna know more or about me, message me ... " or the "I have a profile at VF .." or anywhere else .. even though I'm here alot, If I were to message every single person that wrote "If you wanna know more, message me" I'd never ever get off VR, and neither woud anyone else ... not to mention that yes there are some people that I would not talk to, because I either have nothing in common with them, or because they have an attitude .. and quite honestly, most of the time I can be a friendly person, I don't start anything with anyone, but if you come across to me with an attitude or as an ass hole, yeah I'm gonna bite back, and y'r not gonna like it. I also think that if you are intrested in really getting to know more people, then take the time to tell a bit about y'r self so that more people are intrested in getting to know you ...

As for length, I take the time to read them, if I see that it's a long one and I knwo I don't have the time at the moment, I'll write the name down and go back too it when I do have the time and read and rate it then... ok ... think I might be done now ... maybe ...

I dont put a bunch of stuff on mine because i dont where me on my sleve, some stuff should be found out as you get to know people. The key to a profile is your uniqueness. Many profiles here are the same quizes galore followed with song lyrics and links to the same places. no offence to anyone and im not pointing fingers but be unique.

I am not judging anyone. This is just something I've noticed. And It's annoying the heck out of me. And I'm not pointing out yours or his or her profile, I'm saying alot of people's are. And it's not like I'm saying, "That's bad, hahaha", because that's what I'd say if I were I'd be judging. I'm saying "That's bad, please change it", which means that more that one people dislike it and find it annoying and think it's not acceptable for this website.

I respect anyone that takes the time to read and rate all entries, and clearly for anyone investing that kind of time, reading what kind of breast/cat/fish/kiss/dance quizzes over and over would be truely mind-numbing. My profile was written honestly . I find no shame in being slightly (or less slightly) prone to Nationalism , being a bit crazy or being a traditional satanist or anything else i wrote there . I am proud of that !
As for the quiz results , i posted only the ones that came out true . The non-real ones like the serial killer one or others only shows my character , i am not saying i really am Satan . [isn't that blasphemy ?]

there's alot more than just the profile, there's the journal and the portfolio's which add to a persons charactor.. It's good to see people taking the time and great effort on such subjects. They serve a purpose and a good one. At the end of the day, who would you know to talk to without these.

Very true Dhampir .. I do have a few journals on my favorites list ... I like to read them and learn more about people as well .. no one has mine on theirs :^{ but that's ok, I haven't wrote in it much lately, but I will be soon enough .. I also like looking at portfolios as well and actually SEEING what the person behind the mask looks like .. after reading their whole profile and journal, it's intresting to see if the person I envision while I'm reading looks anything like I imagine them to look like ...

A quiz is meerly a crutch for those with out the personality to create something from themselves... hell the only expression is the expession of the person whom created the quiz......

I think it's funny when you've been around as long as some of use; you get the "welcome to VR" from a new member. Whelps are so cute.

Ahh I jus let it slide their profile their perogitive I suppose and anyway if you read between the lines you could still learn a lot about the person i.e why they chosr THAT qoute or why they posted THAT quote with that particular pic, each new profile I would hazardly say naybe it was a lil repetitive but that can't be helped but still meeting new ppl is cool anyway the more the merrier and the more info they wish to give the better :)

i just re-did my profile and fixed it up took out a buncha quizzes an stuff so it's all about me...i agree with Cancer a profile doesnt have to or need to be long, cuz i have come across some very long profiles and just did not wanna read it all. But it should stick to true information about urself, and other fun stuff ;-)

A profile is made so that people can try to make a decision about whether or not they would like to talk with you. i like the fact that you can make it as long or short as you like. The profile page is for information. The quizzes are a good place to start, but be sure you type actual information about yourself and not what you want people to think you are. Just be yourself and you can never go wrong.

i absolutely agree with you.. i used to have a weird sorta profile, then i condensed it down, and it's just about who i am, and what i like to do.. i'm not trying to say, "hey look, i'm better than you" it's just simply stating that i'm an simplistic person, who doesn't like a lengthy profile.. and for all of the newbies.. i agree.. don't try to be anything you're not.. be you.. be true, and have fun with a site that is created for your likeing, and not the fact that we are to mess up a perfectly great site...

agreed, however, its their choice of what they want to put on the profile(as long as they follow the rules) Length is a issue but if they want to make it HUGE, then jus dont read them and the ppl who have the patience to read it all will probably enjoy what they see...... and the whole being fake, well yea thats dumb since a profile is about THEMSELVES and not some creature, but let them do what they wish

I agree with Klown. But I also think people should be able to put whatever they want to put in their profiles. If you don't want to read about someone saying they like blood than just move onto the next profile.

I have to say when I first came to this site I did not have anything on my profile. I did not want to take up any drive space if I was not going to stay. Now that I have been on the site I have tryed to put things in my profile. I still have a long way to go but I am getting there. I have also seen were people on here like to put alot of pics up but no info. I am sure over time they will add to there profile. I still would like to know how a person with not one word on there profile and 7 or 8. I will just wait and see what happens. Other then that its a great site!!!
