Dean Koontz....'From The Corner Of His Eye'
On the heels of his #1 bestseller False Memory, Dean Koontz brings together his most compelling themes and an unforgettable cast of characters to create what is perhaps the most thrilling and emotionally powerful work of his critically acclaimed career.
Bartholomew Lampion is born on a day of tragedy and terror that will mark his family forever. All agree that his unusual eyes are the most beautiful they have ever seen. On this same day, a thousand miles away, a ruthless man learns that he has a mortal enemy named Bartholomew. He embarks on a relentless search to find this enemy, a search that will consume his life. And a girl is born from a brutal rape, her destiny mysteriously linked to Barty and the man who stalks him.
At the age of three, Barty Lampion is blinded when surgeons remove his eyes to save him from a fast-spreading cancer. As he copes with his blindness and proves to be a prodigy, his mother counsels him that all things happen for a reason and that every person’s life has an effect on every other person’s, in often unknowable ways.
At thirteen, Bartholomew regains his sight. How he regains it, why he regains it, and what happens as his amazing life unfolds and entwines with others results in a breathtaking journey of courage, heart-stopping suspense, and high adventure.
“Dean Koontz is not just a master of our darkest dreams, but also a literary juggler.”
— The Times (London)
Don’t miss these bestselling thrillers from “America’s most popular

I'm reading (when I get chance) "Varney the Vampire" a gothic novel dated from the Victorian days about Vampires.
I was dismayed, because I thought Bram Stoker was the first novelist to write about Vampires, but this book predates Stokers work by some 20 years, or so.
Here is the opening paragraph..
VARNEY, THE VAMPYRE;
OR,
THE FEAST OF BLOOD
A Romance.
CHAPTER I.
"How graves give up their dead, And how the night air hideous grows with shrieks!"
MIDNIGHT. -- THE HAIL-STORM. -- THE DREADFUL VISITOR. -- THE VAMPYRE.
The solemn tones of an old cathedral clock have announced midnight -- the
air is thick and heavy -- a strange, death like stillness pervades all nature.
Like the ominous calm which precedes some more than usually terrific outbreak
of the elements, they seem to have paused even in their ordinary fluctuations,
to gather a terrific strength for the great effort. A faint peal of thunder
now comes from far off. Like a signal gun for the battle of the winds to
begin, it appeared to awaken them from their lethargy, and one awful, warring
hurricane swept over a whole city, producing more devastation in the four or
five minutes it lasted, than would a half century of ordinary phenomena.
To read more, or the entire book Click here

I'm reading Dark Lord of Derkholm by Diana Wynne Jones. One of my friends lent it to me. I'm not that far into it yet. It doesn't seem like the greatest book in the world, but it isn't that bad either. Hopefully I'll have the patience to finish it before I continue onto a new book. ^_^

I wanted to post a paragraph from the book....
Here it is...
If he became like Father, then Father would have won, would have gotten what he had wanted from the very beginning. Be like me or I wil kill you. Had Father ever understood what he was asking? Merrick, the puritan--before there were Puritans. In the centuries before needles and transfusions, a wound that would bleed enough to feed a phage would on on bleeding until the victim died, so Father, too, had been a killer many times. Each time he had no doubt wallowed in guilt, even though he killed only those he felt most deserved to die--enemy soldiers, nobles who enslaved their subjects, abusive landowners, murders, violent thieves...
