Some people feel that vampires hide behind RPG games. Sort of the " i can pretend to be a vampire and yet i am one" bit....
What if say vampires do this out of fear of being rediculed by others?
Do you believe that RPG books may contain a hint of truth about vampirism?

Your thoughts please........

Hmmm....Thats a good ?- It's possible, but you'd have to find a vampire RPG that didn't totally exaggerate the truth. But, i think your gonna have a long and fruitless search. lol no offense by the by

wow, thats actually a pretty good point.
Alot of RPG vampire games, are way to exagarated though. Most include stakes and zombie like creatures.. i mean, if you stab anyone in the heart with a stake, theyre at the same risk of dyeing as the next person does.

I'd say that vampire fiction itself holds more truth than White Wolf RPGing books. Especially the newer novels written by Charlene Harris or Laurell K. Hamilton.

Author's like those two are notorious for sitting on egroups under a screen name lurking and listening while Kin talk about the everyday issues that affect their lives..

I Role Play Vampire the Requiem because its fun. When else do I get to play some undead creature with the ability to turn into mist and is trying to break past the weakness of the vampiric forum?

Some times playing the extrem helps put in light that the condition that we actually suffer from isn't really that big of an issue.

Not to mention it helps get out some hosilities as I beat the crap out of Non living characters known as NPC.

Nope, vampires have nothing to do with RPG, RPG is a world hidden in this world which many like myself love more than this one. Its an image of what or how would one be in a perfect world where one would be part of something even greater than one itself, yet having a spotlight of importance. Vampires are way on the other side of what rpg is.I am one of the people that loves rpg more than anything even to find it bigger than this world or vampire world.

Well it really depends on the author of the books. It depends if the author is known on spreading truths in their work about whatever it is they wrote the book about.

Very true, those who cannot define the difference between reality and fiction are the ones we need to worry about. With that said I would suggest watching out for some of the members of the Sanguinarium which Todd Sebastion has created.

We should not group everyone up in the Sanguinarium as roleplayers. It's true, that they are very influenced by it. But no more so than most of the posts I see here daily. I certainly don't agree with everything Todd says..but I will not be so unfair as to class everyone that rides with him in such an implied negative light.

I didn't mean to imply that you did..just that such a specific association deserves an extention. Just making sure everyone else caught that one. With so much bickering between us all, it would be a shame to exclude any others based on a preconcived notion of what they might be because they belong to a certain group.

Considering I have my own theories of Vampireism, I belive that some vampire RPGs, and even people who play vampire characters in pen and paper and online roleplays... may contain some truth.
However.. most is not true, not according to what i belive is true
We do infact inhabit human bodies
Vampirism is a symbolistic symbiotic relationship with the human mind and body..
Meaning, those of us who are vampiric, are because we were made that way
To take away our vampirism would mean death of our minds and souls.
The human body is not made to drink blood, yet there are people who do. does that make them Vampiric? No. They may be vampiric, but they certainly dont need blood for Physical nurishment
Physical
As for Psi Vampires, feeding off of energy is more belivable.
Again, most RPG books go by the Nosferatu, or a set of clans that are portrayed by the people who created the games or books in the first place
You would have to see if the creaters themselves are vampiric, and if those 'clans' and 'types' exist.

Then in this case MRD your remark offends me totally for if it wasen't for rpg'ers no computer graphics would exist, no new technollagy would ever be demanded. I truelly believe Rpg world is bigger, may not have " " history behind it, but I do believe its more influencing and better than vampire world. Infact I can say that if it wasen't for rpg'er your preciuos movies of vampires and games would not be known to anyone. So I believe that infact they deserve alot more credit than its been given to them.

*note* this comment is if infact we are talking of rpg as in role playing games and not the new teenagers way of chatting thru internet.

In truth you dont really know whats outside your own walls, myths originated somewhere didnt they. As for RPG's, nothing wrong with either acting out fantasies or either being able to be yourself within an accepting group of people. Never know what you are going to find out there.

An excellent response Nastya. Fantasy is a necessity as a de-fuse to the insanity of everyday life. As you so eloquently stated, fantasy offers one the chance to be something - or someone - that one could not be in real life.

I grew up in a real honest to goodness Mafia family. Now, I would never dream of following that path, but, if I choose, I can engage in a Mobster rpg to relieve the pressures I feel that lead to want to whack certain people. Funny how I seem to feel that way a LOT more these days. *Grins* But I digress.

When fantasy supplants the real it is just as harmful as heroin or crack; perhaps even more so. What's more, the fantasy, having supplanted reality has also brought with it new pressures. Whence then does one look for relief?

In the end, it is balance that must govern us, or rather we must adhere to in all things. The Yin and the Yang is not just a cool symbol but rather an eloquent and powerful statement on how to succeed in the Universe.

So, live a bit of fantasy, but when you want to play Superman, just remember that gravity STILL is the law and 70 soreys is a hell of a drop.

Interesting. I have participated in a rpg and I am neither a "stupid punk" or a "preppie poser".

RPG is a way to explore a fantasy world, not unlike reading a good book or watching a movie. As for containing elements of the truth, I'm sure it does inasmuch as its participants weave their truths into the over-arching storyline.

Actually Claudia, I don't act big and bad when it comes down to rping. I make a character and an idea to how that character acts. Depending on the situation will depend on who my character acts.

Not everyone plays to be some bad ass, there are people out there that play to have fun and be something they are not. Not only that it helps with Acting skills. In order to act one must be able to create a Persona and act it out to the exact idea of how the persona is made to be.

Yes there are those that play just to be all big and bad, yet there are many who play just to have fun and to enjoy themselves, like me.

I guess i have to add my 2 cents and say that i have met some that do hide behind characters at times but they do know the difference between reality and fantasy. Not all players get "lost".
To them it is just way to be themselves without being ridiculed by others for what or whom they are.

Why the insults? is just comments, besides if you are not afraid of letting know your bvamparism neither does the ones that are into the rpg world. RPG world is just for my view standard to be on the other side with what this whole site is. I am a true RPG " " lover and will always be, aldo at the same time I do like the vampirism world in a bit as well.I think neither should be considered same nor alike, it does not help to see the diference when both do most times the same thing " ", but to me personally they are just too opposite.

lordvampirio had a really good point, what about the people who have sucked them selfs into a game soo far that they actually believe that they are a "real vampire", and do everything that they feel they should do as that person and end up hurting not only other people, but themselfs too. its scary how much the human imagination can screw someone up.

its like how some (very few) stage actors cant get out of thier character, and actually think that they are that person, and instead of "stage fighting" they actually throw a hit.

Vampire RPGs contain about as much truth about the vampire community as the myths they are based on. As far as the RPGers creating the vampire community no way it was around a long time before the RPG was ever thought of. They may have made it more publicised. I dont know any vampires that play RPGs to mask the fact that they really are a vampire. I'm not saying they dont exsist because they may I just dont know any.

Also, if the RPG you're involved with is boring, it is not even worth going out to do.

It happens a LOT over where I am. The UCF campus had a great one that just went downhill from what I understand. SO, I never bothered to go more than to watch a friend.

Naturexxxglory heres an answer to your question. You say why vampires havent taken over humans since the way they make them sound sure could take them all, well is very simple the reason why is because vampires do not exist, it is juts another imaginary world and a persons most loveable idea juts like rpg is.

well, i believe that it's possible. some of us hide who we truely are b/c we know that, 1. ppl wouldn't believe us, 2. that we are just imposters and we should be in a nut house, and 3. that we have no lives and that this is all we do all day.
i think that some ppl in the world are afraid of what could be out there, that is why they ridicule us.

As for RPG/vampire games, i have found success in the Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen seris. Also, the Vampire: Masquerade as seen on this sight in the database, i heard is decent. although when i tries it, the graphics eemed lackluster and shoddy. much too blocky like the first Everquest. except worse. the gameplay is fun though.

I'm sorry.. What was the question? .. oh.. yeah.. I do believe that in some RPG's there is at least a grain of truth.. bide I said 'some.' I don't see why one would fear riddicule, for they would be who they are and hence uncaring of what others thought. Prudance may cause them to keep to themselves who or what they are, not fear.

What if RPGs were used by some to seek out others of like kind? Or by hunters to seek them out and destroy them?

i think that is a very valuable point! Many people are trapped in a role of vampire anyway because they know that they aren't really vampires. Role play games are good for shortening your learning curve, so this might be a good thing too. As long as you don't play the damn thing, the rules are way too complicated.

the vampire bit is just fun to play as i see it i would love to accually be one but i know that is impossible and seeing as a human can only drink about a pint of blood before throwing it back up i dont know if there is any truth to it. kinda like in the ancient world (1700-1800) the people used to claim there were wiches and put people in unsurvivable situations to prove it. if they survived the were infact a wich.

I like to rp and LARP, dont feel that I am hiding behind anything but expanding upon what I am.

Letting parts of me that others may not necessarily understand come out, in a setting that they do understand to a degree..

But this is a good question. I will have to think on it some more.

tis entirely possible but until we get a full out confession from a vamp who has all the stops, ya know fangs, can't die, doesnt do sunlight, all that kinda stuff ya really can't be completely sure... but then I guess its just a matter of opinion as to what specifically makes one a vampire

Well, I mean....of course it rings a bit true, these RPGs. And as with a lot of things in life, there are people masquerading as a roleplayer when they are in fact the real thing.

But what defines a vampire is such a variable thing anyhow....that it RPG games could or could not be an accurate representation of people with true vampiric qualities.

Nastya and lordvampirio well said..... RPG is a great way to have fun, be it role playing around a table with dice, or online with others, or on your game console or PC, or LARPing, just make sure to know the difference between reality and the 'game of make believe' and not get lost in it - I'm sure several of us know of others that have.

Because every book a vampire is different, would these type actually exsist in the real world or are the powers and types of vampires different?

I have to agree with everyone here that most RPG do hold a bit of truth about vampires but in my own opinion I do believe that some young vampires do play the games as a vampire so they can in some way be out in the open about themselves without being hunted or ridiculed about who they are.

I see many here who can not differenciate an RPG with RL.

RPG are meant to have FUN. Thats all. Nothing more, nothing less. Except for making money for those who created them.

I RPG once every week. I've done several different ones and yes sometimes it becomes boring. Then you just have to say as a group : we quit this and we take on another RPG and start having fun again.

This has nothing to do with how I act in RL. I'm not behaving there as a Vampire or as an Elf or a Dwarf,.....

These books are works of ficion and quite often even works of art.

Besides the Vampires in the books of Anne Rice are totally different to lets say bram stoker's Dracula which is totally different to the white woolf vampire universe.

These are all different settings meant to bring pleasure to those who read, view, play them.

As to the myth/reality the Vampire ledgend is based on. Well it dates so far back in time that i'm sure we will never know. It's origins.

Interesting thought. I think it all comes down to the person though. Some are so caught up in the vampire world they truely believe they are one. Others I think are vamps but enjoy the "escape" from reality. Others, such as myself, just enjoy the RP.
