whats your opinion...... when we die..... is hell a place we go to , another plane of existence.... or do you believe we are already in hell.... or do we make our own hell?

I don't believe in hell. It was made up by Christians to make you believe that Christianity (God) is the only thing that can save you from hell.

I believe in Hell, but I couldn't really say what I believe it could be. I'd imagine it's different for everyone. Probably the worst things you can imagine combined in one place.

Hell is a place that brings the most pain to you. Wether it be horrid memories, or the most physically painful condition possible. All it is, is whatever puts you in the most distress.

Not to sound like a bible thumper or anything, but I have to disagree with that.

The christians didn't just make it up out of nowhere to make people go to church. In fact, God doesn't even have to be the one in the bible that everyone pictures with a long ass beard, and white robes. God is whoever you worship. If you follow the path of your god, you'll go to heaven, which is a place that gives you complete serenity. This is just my take on religion. Again, I'm not trying to sound like the person saying, "My religion is the only one that gets people into heaven, and there's no other way there."

i think that with everything that is going on in the world today, that this is hell. hopefully it will just get better when we pass

The idea of Hell is no more than an expression of separation from the source(or God). I believe this question was just answered in another thread along the same lines.

Used to believe in it, but after doing alot of searching up on the origin of it...I has come to my knowledge that such a place does not exist.

Hell is the physical Relm...as opposed to the Pure Energy relm...And yes One does create their own Hell...Bad choices, lack of fore thought, karmic set backs, bad intent..all lead to Hell on earth...

It's all what you make off it. I could say that I'm in hell right now but that doesn't mean that demons are ripping into my with there tiny little teeth as the devil laughs in the background (no idea where that came from but that seems to be what Christians picture hell to be... maybe, I wouldn't know).

I believe hell is a place by definition that is suppose to be bad. My opinion of it is.... We live in our own hell. What we make of our lives and deaths is what it is whether it be a hell or a heaven.

it all really depends on your belief system
if you are farmilliar with Dante
he believed that hell is just a cave created by god, in which the farther you go into the cave the worse the crime, as well as at the very bottom the devi. However Dante expressed hell as a cold and damp place because the devil was trapped in the middle of an ice lake.
He also thought up Pergatory which god created to be a pathway to heaven for those who were sinners, however, did not sin bad enough to go to hell.

Though if you believe in the second form of hell, it is on the opposite side of the universe than heaven. filled with Black fire and ash so that it is extremelly hot.

If Heaven would be something better then life, then Hell would be something worse then this life, but then again this could be hell for some other way of existence, or heaven too, but because this life is the only one that we are conscious of, then we will never know - what the hell is? :)

the whole idea of God and the Devil is laughable, becaus apparently, if your really bad, some great magical giant that lives in the clouds will send you to some bean person's lair at the core of the earth to be punished, but if you worship 'satan' then wouldnt he reward you, not punish you? so its the choice of a boring life and heaven, or a fun life, and hell.

I believe that when u die. u live in ur own personal hell such as, fears, and or things that you have done in the life that you were living that you remorse doing. things that will haunt you for all eternity.

I believe that we are in hell already..But then again some of us make our own hell..It is hard to explain from my point of view, because I have made my own and have lived in this horrible place long enough to think that this is hell...

I believe that right now we are in purgatory, being judged as we live, and that our souls, upon death, will leave. To where, i dont know, but if it's better than this reality, i'm excited. If its worse, oh well. I still plan to live untill i'm ded anyways.

the funny thing with me is that i dont believe in heaven or god, but i do believe that we all create our own devils and when we die, depending on the severity of our "sins" our own hell is created

Hell is the conscious denial of true freedom. Hell is the absence of Pure Love. There are no daemons to torment because the torment of being denied the one thing you realise you wanted most is out of your reach due to your free choices.

i am mormon, so i have a very certain belief about hell that it is a state of mind... i could explain more but only to whoever is interested bc not a lot of ppl like mormons and i dont want to offend anyone. but if anyone ever has any quetions about it go ahead and ask, we are often misunderstood...

Hell may very well be a state of mind brought on to ones self by doing things in there life they percieve to be bad, there for recieving the 3 fold law of the world of wicca. I believe hell is what you make of it. Certain people have different fears and feelings on suffereing. But your views on those things defines what your own hell is.

I believe Hell is a few things.


First, the Hell that Christians are always telling you about is the place where murderers, child killers, the Nazis(especially the SS and the high ranking leaders such as Goebbels, Himmler, and of course Hitler), etc go (anyone who deserves to be tortured for eternity).

Hell can also be something that we create or we must live in (through bad choices, natural disasters such as the tsunami, 3rd world countries). This hell may or not be able to be solved (it depends on the situation).


Hell could also be your worst case scenario, whatever that maybe (be it stuck in a world all by yourself, being tormented by any bullies you may have faced or fears or anything really). This form of Hell can be similar to the second form of Hell I described in my last paragraph, but of course, it all depends on circumstance and situation.

I don't think there is a heaven or a hell. When we die, who we are dies with us. And then there is no more.

I really don't know what hell could be for each person. It could be different for everyone, the same, it could be different but in the same place, etc. I also have another view about hell in my journal titled "You don't even know..." I don't mean to cound egotistic, but I do have a good point by it.

Hell is real. But it differs immensely from person to person. Some people's hell is a place of fire and brimstone. Some people's, a loss of everything they held dear. Some, a place of eternal torment where souls judged as unworthy go. Hell cannot be one place, one universal punishment, in the same way that no two people can concieve of the exact same heaven. Personally, I hope to end up in Hades, have my promised drink of the river Lethe, and end my journey in sweet forgetfulness.

But to be honest everyone has their own definiton of Hell rather it be a place where we burn for our sins, where we are now, Maybe there is no Hell maybe after we are dead thats it we just die no longer haveing a aura or spirit or maybe some choose for it to be their destination. Who really knows? I got the answer no one. You will not know till you die and see for yourself.

I believe that Hell is what we go through day to day based on the choices we make each day...If you make the wrong choices your Hell is worse..

There is no place called Hell or even Hades. Asatru will teach of a Goddess named Hel. She is the Goddess of the "Underworld". We on the plane known as "Midgardh". I beleive Midgardh is a compilation of 6 different races from 6 different planes (mentioned in Asatru) come here to prove themselves to the Gods and Goddesses. The Honorable and Slain go to "Vahalla" in "Asgardh". The unworthy either go to "Underworld" or back to their home plane. Some tend to escape their home plane or Underwold and come here. Some are here as punishment such as myself.

Oh yeah...one more thing. LadyLoveCat had a good point too. The image of the so called "hell" (Underworld) came from the Christians. They steal the realities of the stories past done around the world and compile them into their own book and add what they want to get ppl to follow their ways of deceit and bigotry.

Hmm, I feel the need to defend Hades. Hades is not hell, it is the underworld. Good or bad, those who believe in it still and bring the fee for the boatman Charon will end up down there. After being judged, they will be separated. The evil to places where their soul will suffer for the things they have done (think Tantalus and Sisyphus) the good to the Elysian fields. In Hades, the dead drink from the rver of forgetfulness, the Lethe, and they spend their afterlife in forgetful bliss, with no memories of the life they had. I believe in reincarnation, though I hope that when I die this time, I may find my peace in Hades.

Surely if reincarnation is real, then it should be used for finding your own enlightenment, not for being trapped in sadness?

LordVesperilio brings a good point about the ferryman. The Egyptians have a ferryman in the stories they passed down. This particular ferryman had his head turned around facing behind him so he can see anyone trying to cross the river for free. (the eyes in the back of the head saying came from this)

I still have to point out though that every way of live has there own story on this subject. There are many differences and very few simularities. Everyone has there own view of everything including Hell, Hades, The Abyss, The Underworld or whatever you call it. Like I said before Hel is a goddess and Hades is a God they are not places.

I believe in hell, and I think its a place of suffering. A place where you feel the most unimaginable pain whether it be physical, emotional or mental. A Place where there is no happiness. A place of no beauty what so ever.

I personally do not believe in the concept of Hell per Xian belief systems. I do not believe that the soul is confined in any sort of Heaven or Hell. Life is not about seeking rewards of golden halls nor fiery depths. If it was that simple, why would we bother?

because energy and matter can not be destroyed only changed, then there would have to be another plain once we live this one. In which case the idea of heaven and hell have merit. There would need to be, for there to be balance and order wouldn't there? This being the case, hell is a void, a lack of love or any other true emotion but anger and fear and depression on a level we can not concieve of.

Well, i am athiest and personaly i think hell was made up as a thing to scare everyone twards something "better" such as god. not saying christians made hell up as a scare tactic, i just think that it is as made up, as well..as god and santa claus. just my personal beliefs but this place we call life is hell

Hell , first was invented by the christians . The name comes ffrom a city dump local to Jeruselem . Not called hell , but the name hell is a form of it ( I cannot remember what it was called ) . If you are christian check out some unpublished texts that were written at the same time as the bible was written for their are counter thoughts of what the longevity of hell would be and possibly not forever .
Personally I do not believe in hell . I believe it is another attempt for the church to try and control the population through fear . For fear and the reward of a great after life helped control the peons whos life sucked and had no hope in real life of a better future . What better way to control them , but to make them fear the wrath of god and to look forward to a great afterlife "if" they obeyed the church ?

Well"hell'" is a christian concept birthed from israel the term was first used a place of torment," Hades" if you will . First time I heard someone mention 'the jewish dump' concept. I'm impressed. The dump was mentioned in the bible by JC. It is where we get the idea of the rotting and smelling of bodies. It was a place where the bodies where dumped after being stoned.

The so called place that God created in the begining for the demons is also mentioned but is named different because it is different. Add Hades to the mix and you get Hell. Then add a fear based belief system and you get guilt.

I also think that life is hell, life is a test, things are thrown your way to see how you react, and i think that is what determines what you will become after you die. Whether its back to earth to try again...or heaven/hell/purgatory, i dont really know what i believe right now. I have a hard time grasping the thought that one being created the entire universe.

Hell is wanting and craveing somthing so badly, that each time your desire is just within your grasp, it is snatched away from you. But at the same time it makes your desire much greater, amd when you finaly achieve your goal it will be like heaven.

I truly believe that when a love is pure and true you are tested to your limits and if you can survive that hell, then your love will withstand all storms.
