I have noticed a very distinct trend here in the last year and a half....probably 80% of the profiles you look at seem to have some mention of how they hate stereotypes and being stereotyped...but ye in the same profile they talk about how the hate Jocks/preps/rappers/etc, etc, etc
what so many do not realise is the stereotypes exist for a reason.....when a majority of people do something a certain way...they become recognized for it and it becomes a stereotype......the same people who are complaining about the stereotype...are the ones who create it...
do I get pissy about being called a goth....
no..I don't...do I like it....no not really..but I accept it as something I knew would happen when I wore all black and followed a darker path in life....to say i did not do this with the knowledge it would happen is lying not only to others...but more importantly to myself.....
so to you who are rabidly against the stereotype....stop lying to yourselves...it is a thing I can assure you you have most likely perpetrated on others also....
any thoughts?
I am w/you..I am who and what I am and I don't care what others think. I don't like labels. Thanks for the forum.
Thank you for starting this topic...........I agree with you completely; stereotypes are out there, and we are all guilty of applying them. If people don't like who I am, then oh fucking well, it's their loss if they stereotype me.
I would like to shine a light on the part of the opening statement that says.... "stereotypes exist as there are MANY MANY people that fit into them"
They are generalizations meant to be somewhat vague and somewhat inclusive. It is not the end of the world if you qualify for a stereotype. It is a lot of fun to look like, or seem like one thing and have the advantage of actually being something different. Surprising people never gets old, at least not for me :)
Great thread.
It is the ultimate irony. I see this all the time.
I can think of many things I'd like to pick apart about this subject, but, being pressed for time, I offer up one piece of the puzzle to discuss.
-
There is, like it or not, a "type" of person that is interested in the so-called darker paths. This is not to say every single person who's ever logged on to this site or wears a pentacle or loves Type O is of the same breed, but a large percentage are.
This same type of person is/was an outcast in school, and when cliques began forming, we either did not have one at all or the one we had dressed all in black and the boys wore more make-up than the girls.
The only reasonable way to deal with being outcast from society at a young and hormonal age is to embrace your "individuality". Roughly translated to 14 year old speak: "I dont give a fuck what you think of me." However, since the maturity and thought is not all there yet, its easy to be a hypocrite and attack those that were so quick to make you an outcast.
Just a quick thought.
I agree with you 100% Sterotypes are a part of life everyone does it , and most people are put into one.. So i say just move on , get over it and live your life...I am friends with many types of people, my nick name is The dark one to them and i have my nick names fo them as well.. Doesnt phase me any...
I just dont like it when people assume because im more dark in nature that i am evil or someone to not be associted with because that is so far from who i am and the truth...
Amen to that brother. I like who I am...I really dont care about the "stereotypes" out there...big deal..theres alot of them. That is how the world works these days.
stereotyping happens whether you want it to or not. people stereotype in their thoughts no matter what. it shouldnt matter what anyone else calls u, as long as u know the honest truth...
Perfectly said! I am so tired of hearing "Don't call me goth?!?!111 Wait, preps are ghey, die!"
It's so tiring. It's like ramming your head against the brick wall. It may eventually move, but your head will be long busted since.
yes...that reminds me of Cruzshadows song Levae me alone...with the broadcast playing through out it...saying...wearing black leads to the darkside...they watched Star Wars one too many times
Im like...come on...black is black...not some evil force making people turn to the *dark side* what about leaving people alone, let them be who they are. When I was 20 I was on a bus from Florida...there a group of goth kids standing alone in the terminal...2 girls 3 guys...everyone was watching them like they were lions in a cage. All 5 of them looked terrifed,I got up...went over to them and said they would be alright...I stood with them til my bus came
I agree that people should have just ignored them......but the point here is that they take such treatment upon themselves when they choose to dress "differently"...and to not expect such treatment is simply lying to themselves...it's not right...but it is the way of things...and will be for a long time to come...
I agree that many stereotypes are there for a reason. What bothers me is when peopel can't accept that there are people who do not follow the stereotype of their race/religion/sexual preferance/subculture/etc. For example, people who can't accept the idea of a straight-edge hardcore goth. You know who I'm talking about, Daermon. He doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't do drugs, but he's out dancing his ass off every Saturday night in the local industrial bar, wearing a jacket covered in spkines and patches. Yet he frequently gets accused of being drunk, being a dealer, or being threatening. If you knew this guy, you'd laugh. But if you saw his picture, you'd probably think all these things. It's lame.
In my profile I have these:
I hate labells

but everyone labells

I was even bullied.
But then I didn't say I hate preps or whatever.I wrote thingst hat make me puke, but I didn't write I hate preps and other terms I've never heard cause they're American lol.
Lucikily I got out from the teenage angst I was in.Nowadays I accepted labells but the fact that I was bullied and discriminated, even before I showed I like the gothic scene, will always be a part of me.It's like it left me a permanent stain.
So I still hate labells but I accept them nowadays. I don't dress in black and whatever that much like in the past, nowadays I got dress codes to obey but when I want to dress in black etc...I expect people's reactions and I just walk with my head up.
I wish to add:
Something that makes me laugh as well is this:
''I am a goth.I hate labells and if u label me ill kill u!''
I find that a lot contradictory since they themselves are labelling themselves.
I agree Daermon when you choose to dress in black etc...you have to accept thae fact that not everyone is going to accept it.
Thing is when you are young you don't always realise it.
I get called a lot of nasty names.Especially by my family, which is worse since I am forced to live with them. And it is worse fort he fact that comes from the family.
The poeple who know me well know that am not the stereotypes I get called, yet still people want to be judgemental.
And here it's more dificult since it's a small country. And even tough am older people still want to label me with those labells even if I'm wearing blue jeans, but people are people -_-
incredibly well said. i agree with you 100%. i've seen a lot of profiles like that.
Stereotypes are funny to me. but that could be because i know many who blow the typical stereo types out of the water. I know "jocks" who like to dress in girls clothes sometimes, and "goths" who love brittany spears....lol. I love stereotypes, they bring me a much needed chuckle. *grin*
most profiles i read sate "i hate labels, and preps.." lol i just laugh it's funny, i've been labeled alot of things in my life, such as a jock (don't see how) gang banger(lol yeah.. sure) goth.., etc.. i am what i am if you feel i fall into one of these catagories so be it.. but i don't know many little wannabe hommies that listen to hard rock and death metal.. meh whatever.. the point has been said above i just felt like stating my experience
Thing is you an't get rid of labells.
When you arey oung you get labelled due to music and clothes then when you are adult, due to your social status, marital status etc...
Stereotypeing is a way of life, I guess...To be upset about being included in one category of people is undersatnding if you don`t belong to that type or do not agree with it...An example of stereotype is how romanians are seen outside their country...everybody thinks they are gypsies (tigani),and treat them like they treat the gypsies, which in most cases are villans and thiesfs and murderers... That is a stereotype that doesn`t apply...If you stereotype someone, be sure of what he really is and in what category you put him into.... The stereotype might be the other way around
It could be a level of maturity...in the very young teens...they need a group to associate with and also then start believing one group is antithem or something in that vein...
Just my opinion though...
Yes and hate other lablles to feel better or as a revenge.
to humans labelling is a natural thing even tough i try to avoided as much as i can
Well I'm sorry to inform all the ones who dont like to be labled, but we all have at least 1 to 2 lables we cant get rid off.
1. We are all earthlings
2. We are either male or female
But honestly, I dont really care and all who state in their profiles that they dont like to be labled and if i dont like it i should go and shoot myself, they just lable themself as ignorant idiots. I so have enough that.
actually most sterotypes are wrong and not even true and are born of a major missunderstanding. It's like this look at a picture of a person. normaly a thought of what type of peson that is comes to mind. now that thougt will chance based on that persons looks. what they are wearing. and jewlery or makeup they may have on. the color of their skin. how much they weigh or it looks like they weigh. their hight. their hair style. and lots of other little things it will take to long to type. all of these things have a different sterotypical prejudge associated with them. you can have a picture of two guys wearing the same thing looking the same way but just change their hair color and what someone will say about the two of them will be different based on the color choosen for the hair. different colors will create different comments. If you don't know that person then you don't know them and you can't say anything about them. alot of people might even suprise you. when I come across a profile of someone hateing the sterotype of the person that hates the sterotype of what someone think they are. I just ignore it and read on
I do hate Rappers but only because I cant stand the music...Although I am sure it is not mentioned on my profile..
This is an example of what wrong stereotype mens! Hate rappers because you can`t stand the music! You don`t know the man who wrote a certain song...maybe he is a good guy and, if you didn`t know he was a rapper, you might just be friends! What if one of your friends decides to sing rap music? You`ll start hateing him?
That's why with the problem of labells.
People label you without knowingy ou,I have people who hate me cause ma labelled as goth, then I've got friends who are rappers, ravers and anything you can imagine, yet I still talk to them.
It can be useful to find a group, but then that means that you should hatet hose who don't have the same label as you?
That's the problem with labells they divide people and bring fights.
I think it's that people try so hard to be the odd ones that they place the chains which are stereotypes.
I hate stereotypes of any sort.. Why would you hate someone just for the simple reason that they are "preppy" or whatever? People need to learn to see PEOPLE, not what they look like...
I dont think there is anyone who never labled a person. I just read in a profile .....i hate sluts and lablers. Wouldnt that make the person who wrote that a labler too? since she judges and lables people and calls them sluts lol Nobody is free of it, as hard as we try.
I dont think labeling someone is always bad and for sure not always meant bad. If someone calls me an intelligent female, he lables me, but i for sure like that one lol
Yes true but an intelligent female can be a fact, infact if we get called male or female that's a gender not a label.
The labells are the ones you get called during your life not something you were born with.
Goth, prep etc...are labelles, female,English etc.. aren't for me those are facts cause they are adjectives you were born with.
Erm not quite....I hate the music and everything that rap music pertains...Ok maybe i should of worded it a bit better...So I dont hate the rapper in person
I have found this steriotyping isnt so big in Australia. We dont have preps, or any of the kind. There has been some problems about "goths" But I've never been an outcast, We have small schools, Everyone basically got along fine (mostly) People accepted who you were. Of course there was the immature comments now and then but nothing to get sturred up over, have your say and its over with... Im not saying this on behalf of all Australians, This has been my experience and point of view...
I agree with you. If you yourself perpetrate the steriotype, then why complian about it? Personally, I take it as a complement when someone calls me "Goth" or "Vampiric"!
I dont care what people think off me as long as they just think it, when it starts to cross over into violence then it gets a bit annoying
ok i choose the wrong example, lets take getting called fat and dumb, fat is a fact, dumb is a lable. only cause someone is fat your not automaticly dumb. Is that better? :) lol
Labels amuse me...there are new one's created everyday...they are used by scared hypocrites in an attempt to subvert and belittle another person/group in order to have some form of control over them.
I have been guilty of using labels as a form of rationalization for my superiority.
Priss dont worry, everybody lables others. I havent met one person yet who has never in their life labed another person :) its human.
Unfortunately, labeling and stereotyping has been around and will continue to be around....we get labeled and stereotyped from where we grew up, the school we went to, what our hobbies our, our lifestyles, our clothing . . . sigh...just the way it is....we just need to move above such and judge people for who and what they are to us and how they are.
My personal opinion on this subject is that stereotyping and generalizations are an aspect (and there are many aspects) of the lack of maturity. Childhood, and the years between the latter and adult hood, are usually the breeding ground for such mentalities. Most people, when they leave adolesence, leave behind that boxing-in of stereotyping others and themselves because with maturity and growth, they realize it's a moot point. No one can be so generalized, no one fits perfectly into a stereotyped box and these realizations I believe come with the maturity of most people who grow into adulthood. However, there are those with an emotional immaturity who cannot leave behind these insignificant points of reference that stereotyping truly defines. I think perhaps it's a lack of understanding one's self which if course, leads to a lack of understanding others. This lack of understanding one's self brings about the need to feel as though one belongs to a particular sub-culture culture, etc.. a need for inclusion which stereotypes apparently fullfill.
There's more to what I want to say, but I haven't fleshed it out enough to convey it in the way that I'd prefer to. This is my one-cup-of-morning-coffee-so-far two sense. :)
I hate the whole I hate so and so even though they don't know what the hell they're talking about. They claim to hate being stereotyped but yet they do the same, it's childish and no more stupid than those whom stereotype them.
Basically, words can`t hurt you if you don`t mind them...When it comes to physicall agression, then it becomes a problem!
I agree...like it or not we will always stereotype...weather we mean it or not....I am guilty of such as well....but I do try to be mindful when making reference to a group or individual....nobody's perfect
I have learned never to take anything on profiles too seriously.
I love to be stereotyped. To be stereotyped means that someone thinks they have you defined and controlled. That means they have underestimated you. And there is no greater weapon at your disposal than to be underestimated! People will not expect it when you move beyond the narrow boundaries they have imposed upon you. And to be capable of doing the unexpected gives you great power.
i agree with you but if someone calls me a poser , for example, i ask them why do they think that?
sometimes i don't get an answer...
I just love it when they say "I don't care about what you think. Fuck other people's opinions. And if you call me emo, I'll fucking kill you!"
Nothing like contradictions in their own thoughts.
I myself am not a fan of sterotype but we have to acept them and the fact that what ever we do we will we sterotyped. and so in this socity sometimes we have to use them to be understood by some people
I have heard so many different stereotypes that I did not even know existed until this site. I am one of those stereotypes. On the outside I look like the traditional soccer mom. But inside I am just a oddly different as anyone else. I could care less about steroetypes but they are out there. I was just asked today by someone that just joined today what made me think I was a vampire. apparently she did not read my profile because I never claimed I was. Bottom line they are always out there. Hell I have to deal with it daily as a military wife cuz everyone thinks all of use gossip and sleep around. But I know I don't. Good thread. I just wish all people read it.
HEHEHEHE....I bet half the people that have that statement on thier profile are changing right now!
some people are mean here.
they joke me because my sexual
orientation and i could joke them
for soo much more....i mean some
people will be likE IM GOTH FEAR ME!!
and its like not only do people label you
but you label your cheap imatation
of goth.
ya know what i mean?
I feel we are all stereotyped and we all stereotype others even if for just the sake of being able to explain something to someone easier....it isa common daily activity that exists consciously or not
Stereotypes happen. There isnt anything you can do to avoid it but what I tend to do is always tell my self I am who I am and if people dont like it they can bite my rear end. Thats my basic feelings on it.
its a normal thing to be a hypocrite...we dont want to acknowledge that we are selves do the things that we hate when others do.
no one is perfect...but we can change if we just took the time to get to know who it is we are and what we do..that way we can change from being a hypocrite
maybe they say that just beacause they want to be different, to be unique and don't get mixed with people they don't know or respect...
maybe...
Stereotypes are inevitable for all ages, but I have noticed, in real life as well as online, that the so-called cliques, (jocks, preps, goths etc.) all sort of dissolve when people get a little older, and people are friends because they like one another, not because they are from the same social clique.
i knkow that stereotyping is wrong, but when you get into the whole stereotyping thing it's hard to get out of. no matter what you do throughout your life, you are going to fall into one group or another and a lot of times, that's not bad. i don't care when people call me goth because why should i take it as a bad thing? stereotyping is only bad when you think it is. that's just my opinion though and everyone has a right to think their own way
Call me goth if I act goth, call me crazy if I act crazy...call me insane if I am insane, but do not call me stupid if I don`t act stupid! People tend to stereotype because of fear, of superiority syndrome, of inculture...If I am stereotyped, well, I`m fine with it as long as is the right type...and if not,...so well! People who are smart will realise their mistake and those who don`t...who cares about them?
I agree whole-heartedly.
I call people preps and sluts...
but, they're not "Preps" or "Sluts" what they actually are is preppy or slutty. I should call someone something---they're not that certain thing. If they were made to be a stereotype- they'd have the name "PREP" plastered across their face...
lol. I guess I got into explaining what I do instead of...saying my opinion on this thread...
Please forgive me. lol
~Brenda~
whom ever thought up all the different sterotypes are ignorant.we all are human or creature
i have a lable for every one?
"hi my name is (insert name here)"
only lable i need
well this took off way better than I expected....
glad to see a litle grey mass in function in the threads
I'm really wondering tho...just how many people after reading this...actually changed their profiles?
the real issue with a stereotyping is that no one takes the time to change the opinion of the person stereotyping.
i play alot of pool, grew up in a biker family, and worked in a tatoo parler. all of those places have a bad rap for sleeze balls. but when your with those people they are no differt then anyone else. people don't care to find that out though.
i play pool with a hommie from phillie, a redneck from wisconsin, and a hustler from st paul. and we go to the pool hall just to play each other. if we met in a bar any of us would have gotten in a fight with each other.
so take the time to find common ground or stereotyping will never change
I didn7t change my profile because I guess I`m a little bit of everything... Ah, some might call me strange, others geek, others... Hey, whatever you like!
yup....now for my personal stereotype...
i'm a goth/headbanger/nerd/gamer/intellectual metis......with some attitude problems.....
hehehe
glad of yow far this one came tho
very nicely said. and your totaly right. most people hate stereo typing yet they stereo type everyone else. alost of times themselves included
Stereotypes, uhm I love...
Why??
Simple make equal the stupid...
I'm what I'm...
Free, very free....
My mind is free too.....of stupidity....
Saw a special on this on PBS just yesterday.
Some of the people at Hartford made a couple of computer programs to test this. Alan Alda (the guy from MASH) was doing the special. It seems we all do this on some level or another. If we mean to are not. Interesting uh?
I LOVE STEROTYPES!!!!!
iv never been able to be labled in my life i ac t on my every whim which is so eratic i never really dreesed one way or acted another. i act souly on emotion and mine are usually rather eratic lol. ive never been labeled because i never did anything like anyone else really or not conciesly adn if i did it laste about 12 hrs.
People who jump into a category sadden me because its so boring being the same day in and day out and they allow themselves to be judged my staying so static. So in short all i can say is he he he judge me not as you be judged first lol
The only way to stop it, starting with ourselves, is to learn not to judge. Which is hard to do since we are always comparing others to ourselves. Its a ego thing. Either we are putting people down so we are higher/ better; or we are doing the opposite, for whatever reason. The ego does not want to accept that there is no separation between us. Duality must rule or the ego feels endangered. There is very few people who have learn to control the ego. But it can be done if you really, really wish to.
I understand and agree with you as well. I dont let get to me they can call me what they want it dont matter I know what and who I'am and that is all that really counts. Each and everyone of us is different and we have our own things that we do to make us different some will be acepted and others will not, but what can one do really but just to ignore it and go on with what makes that person happy.
I agree with you so much.Just because I am Wiccan ppl think I am a devil worshiper and say hurtful things without even getting to know me."Don't Judge the Book by its cover".....Voodoo
I have to agree with a lot of you. Stereotyping is part of our daily lifes and we just have to deal with it. and ignore it, I do.
We are who we are, we like's the thing's we like, and we all do the thing's we do for a reason....We are ourselves.
No matter what, there will always be sterotyping, be it on here, or reality. Personally I don't like label's...but it happen's.
~Vanish~
i was just talking about this last night with my bf. he says he hates these certain types of people and i was trying to tell him not to be so closeminded about them. he is a big stereotyper and it bothers me. people can be so different from one another that it is hard to generalize a certain group of people. if you gave them the time of day, ANYONE could find at least one person of a stereotype that they say that they hate that they could get along with. it is up to you if you will allow urself to open up to them and give them a chance.
i hate labels, it depics everyone from just being who they are
its pointless but obviousely most of the people in schools and society think that just because they dress differently, listen to different music or spend time with other people besides yourself that you are called, "emo, punk, goth, prep, jock, valley girl, druggie, smokers, drinks..."
Hmmm i agree if anyone had a stereotype against who or what i am or what i believe i truely dont give a shit it is who i am and who i will be if they dont like theres the door or they can keep on moving down the road Everyone is an individual if we were all completely the same this whole world would a tad friggen boring Dont Ya think!
I think that from another point of view, labels are necessary to avoid chaos...but when you use those labels to suppress others or whatever you don`t like, then we have a problem, my friend!
i think i speak for everyone when i say labels are sheilds for imbecils
see dun nobody got my view wtf damnit cant anybody more dynamic instead of static
No worries, Deshler.
I'm sure somebody has a label/ title for you too. If not - we'll think of something. :)
Labels just make it easier to explain ourselves even tough they may be wrong the help a little, but you must remain tolerant to the other stereotypes tobe out side them... if that makes sense...
Every thing that describes anything is a label rather it is from sterotypes to your every day name...
It is just the ways the human race identifies things..
Why is it that so many people are happy to stand behind a flag, a team colour etc, but as soon as they are personally labelled in something that means a particular way of life, they get all pissy?
Sure there are things I wouldn't like to be associated with, but those who don't like being associated with that label, have a look at yourself, be a little aware of what kind of image you're projecting.
If you have a close look, you will see that you have earnt the label, if you don't like it, change, if you don't like it, stop whinging, fuck off and keep walking.
I say, be who you are, project that image and anyone who doesn't like it can fall head first into a river of acid, I really couldn't give a fuck what people think.
If you are true to yourself, walk tall and represent yourself with pride. Fuck em all!! Stereotypes, join one today, just make sure you know who you are before joining!!!
Well, i don't like ppl who don't know me saying what I am and what I am not. I perfer ppl to get to know me first.
yeah alot of people contradict themselves but me personally i don't see that there is a difference in people and that there are different groups... probably because I dont' belong anywhere... but I mean humans are humans and I am human.... why judge others and categorize them just because they categorize you... there is no point, i mean it gets you no where in life
I agree with you, stereotyping is a part of us all... however it is negetive stereotyping that needs to be abolished!!
seems many have lost the original point i was making..which is that stereotypes are just a generalization...and not actually a bad thing until we decide to freak out about them....
to quote"You are NOT a beautiful and unique snowflake!"
we all fit some stereotype...whether we admit it or not.....the only difference...is those who accept it...are no longer lying to themselves....and self truth is a valuable thing
I've never given it much thought. Am I a stereotype? I probably am, but I don't mean to be.
...i never run away from it...
...i know im of the gothic persuasion...
...im a goth and a freak and thats the only way i like to be...its a label i gave myself...so i dont mind...
deep thinking........ more than which i can say to those who say these things intentionally..... :D nice thread!
Interesting ideas, I belive that people steryotype out of habit, even if they do not realise it.
This is also true! And who cares if you stereotype yourself? As long as you are happy with that...
everyone can complain about stereotying but no1 can help doin it.
jus let everybody be who they want to be, ur gonna judge them anyway
so whats the point in tryin to conform to 1 group or another
On the one hand, people want to be unique and special. So they don't want to fit into categories of a kind.
On the other hand, people identify with others that share a set of common attributes. Thus, something called a stereotype inevitably involves when increasing the amount of people in a social system.
Complain about it if you will. But there's no need to. You can utilize it as a reference for describing your own character.
I don`t think they are really useless...but I don`t think thea are really necesarry...
what exactly is labeling though. what i think it is is when we see a person and decide they look like something else we've seen and we put that person in a group. no matter how much you think labels suck, you're gonna have a label. there's no way to avoid it. you can't tell every one in the world to quit labeling you because none of them are going to listen to you and they're just going to think that you can't accept you for who you are. if you can't accept yourself for who other people think you are and who you wanna be, change then, but you are the one who'd not being true to your self and you're changing your self for other people just to get them to quit calling you one thing while they pick up another. i don't know if that makes sense to you, but it makes sense to me
HEY DAERMON!!!! GET OFF MY SNOWFLAKE, DAMMIT!!!
And stereotypes bug me when they stop people from finding out the truth of the situation, like "that native guy is stumbling around and slurring, he must be drunk,"without even checking his blood-alcohol level. This assumption killed a stroke victom in Edmonton three years ago. Yes, there are native people out there who drink. But hey, white people drink too. The man in Edmonton who died was described by his family as "straight-edge" his favourite beverage was a slurpee. A couple cops found him and through him in a drunk tank, where his stroke went untreated and he died.
If you are a Goth why would it bother you to be called a Goth? I consider myself Goth and if someone called me out on it, it wouldn't bother me a bit. Same with Punks, or Rockabillies...if that's where your lifestyle is taking you why can't you own it? Say, "Yes, I'm a Goth or Punk or Vampire, so what..."
It's very true, really, what you say. I become generalized and I return it unto others. It's just part of nature to judge someone within the first 60 seconds of meeting them. You form a stereotype of them. People with similar traits soon fall into that stereotype. Even if we had no words for it we would still have that seperating. It's like with Albert and the Rat. The boy associated fear with the rat when a loud noise was made. Now, when the rat is around he freaks out. Not only that, but he generalizes the small furry thing with other small furry things be it powder puffs, rabbits, baby chickens, puppies, kittens, etc.
it's so... middle school. but there's really nothing that can be done about it. ::sigh:: i guess we all just need to accept it and get on with our lives.
i find it quite fascinating how some one could use the word hate to describe some one that they never met
I don't know.. it is all a complicated mess.. but that is the way of the world... Maybe we should all just relax and go along with life.. We cannot change another person's belief on labeling others or whatnot.. (as hard as some of us may try).. Labeling sux, but it does happen and will never stop happeneing.. There will alwayz be closed-minded individuals who see all things other than themselves to be wrong.. but hey, what can we do?
Trying to convice them only gives fuel to the fire, so to speak.
Thanks daermon for making a thread on this. Well I have noticed what you are talking about with alot of people saying they hate labels. Then the reason they supply is not just cause reason. When you scroll down you see how they hate jocks, homie g's and etc. Personally I have a distaste for labels ansd stereotypes. But that is just me only becasue instead of being classified as something get to know me then try and determine what I am. To tell you the truth I don't follow under a certain label. Differint things I do keep me from being one certain thing. But hey if you want to label me go right ahead just don't pass judgement thats all I have to say. If you dislike labels more power to you just don't contradict yourself by putting another stereotype down....
