if this has been posted before and i missed it - i apologise, but i don't see it anywhere so here goes.
Every medical expert (nurse, doctor, first aider etc) is adamant that the human stomach cannot hold blood, and that if you swallow more than a few millilitres, you will throw up, because the stomach is designed to reject it.
personally, i've never drank more than 10 ml - so i dont know about this, I'm not really Sanguinary. However there are many on this site who claim to be sanguinary, and many who claim they need to drink blood.
you can't get much nutrition out of a couple of sips, or even much psychic energy for that matter. So are the "experts" wrong, or are Vampires merely taking small sips to satisfy a psychological need or fetish?
are there any out there who can genuinely claim to drink as much as a glassful of blood or more? i really would like some input on this.
i don't know about human blood, i drink lots of animal blood and never get sick. P.S. i don't hurt animal, we have a meat packing house up the road. i don't waste anything.
Ewww animal blood? Gross! I've never thrown up but then again I've never kept track of how much I've taken in
I didnt know that there was a need to keep track..so I cant give you one of my brillant answers...lol
I have never drank blood
but I often wondered
If it was possible in any quantity
Interesting thread
I dont really measure my blood intake i drink till I am satisfied . However I can assure you that I drink at least if not more than a cup at a time and I feel no ill effects from it ..
To be honest, I don't know how from a medical point of view all of this is suppose to work, but I have felt no ill effect from a significant of blood comsumed and neither has my partner.
I am not sang so I cannot speak from personal experience. However, my father at one point had bleeding ulcers which caused him to internally bleed about 4 pints of blood into his stomach. He never threw up, so I don't believe that the "so-called" medical experts are right on this one.
I don't really drink blood. But I know people that have and they have never actually gotten sick. The only affect drinking blood has on the human body as detailed in the past is a substantial increase in hemoglobin which merely gives a redness glow to ones cheeks. Almost like blushing.
I have never read or heard anywhere that drinking any certain amount of blood would make one vomit... But like many other things if you overdo it , has a tendency to make you sick at your stomach resulting in nausea and vomiting.
I do drink blood and I have never had that happen nore have I seen it happen.
its a true statement. your body cannot handle a certain amount of blood when you intake it. as well as when you intake blood from those who are not your bloodtype, your blood cells fight it off which sometimes causes you to feel sick in the pit of your stomach. your body is not acustomed to intake other blood types unless you both share the same type of blood. ( A, AB, O negative, O positive, B) But you do not always gets sick from intaking others bloods, but it is known to do that.
(on another note: to much intake of blood can cause diabetes 2. and those who are obese are more accustomed to getting diabetes too.)

Im glad you put this......Im a RN specializing in Diagnostic Medicine.......and I tell you that blood, whether it be human or not, CAN be digested only according the the drinkers digestive system :) If you want to know more message me

I do not drink blood myself, but I have been around someone that has. They drank the blood of someone and it did indeed make them sick. They felt the need to vomit most of the night and into the next day. I believe highly from that experiance that what the experts say is true.
its not just unlike blood being in the system. i did a first aid course recently, and was told that you should not tilt the head back to treat a nosebleed because it would be swallowed, and the stomachs reflux system causes one to vomit up any blood. as for bleeding ulcers - if it develops slowly, then perhaps the stomach becomes acclimatised to blood. sort of defeats the object though. maybe vampires also build up their tolerance for blood gradually.
however, it would not be the first time accepted medical fact has turned out to be a fallacy, which is why i opened this topic.
yeah tilting the nose back is a automatic NO. the blood rushes to the back of the head. you should always have them lean foreward so the blood will exit the nose. it may take longer to stop but it works.
I have heard this somewhere at some point, but couldn't possibly begin to imagine where! I never put that much credit to it! As far as tilting the head back during a nose bleed could cause vomitting, this could be due to the blood almost gagging the person. You ever swallow the wrong way or get water in your nose..I mean if your not swallowing something & it goes down your throat, it makes you gag. I had a lot of test done due to severe acid reflux, man they spray the back of your throat to numb it & you automatically start to gag. I don't know just a possible answer as to why!
when I was a new vampire a long time ago I had slit my wrist not deep enough to kill but deep enough to bleed three cups but when this happend my first instinct was to put it to my mouth I must have take three to five mouth fulls of blood in the first five min and I didnt make it to the hospital for 20 min. So I must have drank my fare share of cups and I didnt throw up I felt weak bodly wise from loosing all that blood but my mind was racing with all the energy i got from drinking all that blood
I know I've taken in more than 10mL, and, according to Fight Club, you can drink a pint of your own blood before you get sick.
I only got excited enough to bite one person and that was it. It wasn't even really a mouthful because I caught myself. But I do take animal blood and I've never had a problem with it. I've also never measured how much I take though. I usually just drink when I feel like it.
never have had enough to get sick... just enough to get rid of the blood lust.
but fight club says a pint is all it takes... ( i know movie reference to a serious question... i just love that movie though).
Ive drawn blood from my friedn by accident. i wasnt meaning to bite him so hard. But hey hes a masochist.
Blood, like milk, if drank in excess, will cause you to vomit regardless. It clots, and your muscles attempt to purge it. Just like if you try to drink a Gallon of Milk in an hour... the milk curdles in your stomach.
Of course... I'm sure people can build a resistence to that reflex.
I only drink enough to rid myself of the lust, but i'm sure ther's a limit to it...like everything else.
Vampires need to drink blood becouse their own body cant sustain heamoglobin, unless of course your a psi-vampire,.I,m a sang nang I only feed on animal blood,I wont take the life of another, unless the person wishes to become one of the kindred. Some people do,crave the powers that come from being what we are.I cant bare the thought of someone pulse dissappearing underneath my lips. But if anyone struck against my honour,or hurt those close to my heart then I would drain them oh so slowly.
suavevamp,
Excuse me if I must find that your interpretation of what it means to be a blood drinking vampire, is something akin to a false reality- one where you have no basis of correct understanding.
I do partake in the drinking of blood, but have never drank to the point of vomiting. I also have never measured the quantity.
Those that have ingested more than a cup at one time - I'd be interested to know how you get this blood. Anyone bleeding a cupful is going to need stitches minimum and likely will need a trip to the ER, so how do you get the blood?
hmmmmmm never knew you could get sick from drinking to much blood... gonna go do search on it.
Well I do not drink blood, ever since my attack the sight of blood kinda makes me sick to the stomach. But we won't go into that.
But I did have to get 4 teeth pulled once at one time so i had to go to the hospital and alot of blood went into my stomach and when i woke up i threw up alot.
So i do know that if you get to much blood into your stomach you will throw up. But i do not know how much is the limit.
most I know don't drink that much blood....but as far as getting sick....well as long as it has not gone bad or collagalated...you should be fine.
As for the bloody nose thing.....pinch the middle of your nose and lean forward :)
DeathKnightShimitar said: most I know don't drink that much blood....but as far as getting sick....well as long as it has not gone bad or collagalated...you should be fine.
Unless you get hepatitis B virus (HBV) and/or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) right?
Felix,
Perhaps thats what was meant by 'bad' blood?
lol
hmm I've never gotten sick and I sometimes measure how much I take. Sometimes I'm afraid I might overdo it and mostly I measure for the safty of my donor...Don't know what to really tell ya
I don't know if I have ever drank that much, but I have drank alot and I have never gotten sick. I personally never Knew there was really a limit to the amount you could consume(I mean logically speaking) How much am I expected to drink? lol
There are many things that they are saying about safety precautions and the downsides to feeding on blood. Maybe it was not a complete fact for everyone. Maybe it was also refering to height and weight of a person determining the feeding intake.
Well,as far as getting sick, I personally never have, but have never measured the amount. However, My friend has gotten sick before. I think it depends on the person, not the amount. everyone has different tolerances to things.
Malecke
i dont drink blood, but wouldnt the taste alone make you want to be sick?
apart from that i cant see why it would make you feel ill in anyway.
Very interesting and surprisingly specific thread. I have to agree with some previous posts in saying that it all depends on the individuals digestive system. And, as with all things, your system gets accustomed to the intake of blood and builds up a resistance to how much will make you vomit. Carpe Noctem
Yeah I love the feel and taste of drinking but i dont ever drink a whole lot. I dont know if I would truthfully, I think it would be a major system overload. I do wonder if u drink from the same person often, like me and my wife do, if u started to increase the amount maybe it wouldn't make u sick because ur body is used to that person's blood, hmmm I wonder....
O yea i have drank blood its wiered but i actually like the taste of it.
well I have never drank a glass full but I have had more then a few milliliters I have noticed that I can drink more now then when I started.
What vampiriclove says earlier makes sense. If your blood type is different, then the cells may try to reject eachother when the blood goes throught the digestive tract.
And too much of anything makes you throw up. too much oatmeal makes you throw up. too much bread makes you throw up. Too much anything makes you throw up. It is just a matter of finding your personal limits.
I have taken in about a cup's worth of blood more than once...no vomiting for me...I think Vampires might have a different type of stomach that humans, because, after all, I don't consider myself human. Correct me on any of this if I am wrong.
well i've been thinking - it's sweet, salty, quite thick - i suppose anything like that would make you puke if you had a pint or two of it. thing is, what difference does cooking it make? gravy and black pudding are really just cooked blood, so why do they not make one sick?
I agree I have also drank more than a cups worth of blood and no vomitting on my part....maybe there is more here then meets the eye.
blood type would have exactly NO effect on digestion, as blood ingested is broken down into component nutrients just the same as food is, it's not like it is absorbed back into the blood as whole blood again, thats like saying you should check the blood type of a steak before eating it....utterly foolish concept
Daermon-
Are you absolutely sure that the blood type would have a zero amount of effect on you. I was meaning in other ways not just drinking, i was meaning of injections as well. You seem so positive that blood type has ZERO EFFECT. look it up sometime. or why not go to a nearby blood clinic and ask them.
also i would have to state the facts that type two and type one diabetes is high on the list for blood drinkers.
i don't drink much, but i've never gotten sick from it. then again i haven't drank a glass full of blood either. i do know that there is a disease that makes people believe they need blood. they have pale skin, sensitivity to sun, ect. drinking blood it's not an addiction either. it's kind of a chose, you either drink or you don't.
My personal thoughts, I have had donors blood I never measure the amount. But I also compete in amateur mixed martial arts and have swollowed large amounts of my own blood with no ill effects.
its hard to know if you have drank a lot if you dont measure it - it's a thick fluid, so seems more. but i have often swallowed a considerable amount (more than a couple of teaspoons) to no ill effect. so far what i hear does not tally with what "experts" claim.
Vampiriclove - Daermon was answering to the question of blood type on a 'blood drinking' thread. Obviously, transfusions are affected by blood type but he is absolutely correct that it matters all of zero in blood drinking.
Karnstein - a couple of teaspoons is something that can be handled with little doubt, however any amount that would actually provide ample nutrients or byproducts to make a difference in our bodies is not likely to be able to be accepted by the stomach much less digested by the stomach.
Hmmm, aren't bllod and milk essentially the same thing. I mean they are both just modified interstitial fluid, or am I mistaken. highschool biology was a very long time ago.
My question is, what about pasturization. Unpaturized milk is a source of campolocaucus (sp)...
Is it the blood itself or that it may be a sourse of bacteria (camp or something else) that causes the problem?

maybe not all people have similar intestinal tolerability. there are tribes in certain parts of the country that drink blood like cannibals and the like...
i think you should get used to it...
From personal experience only I can say that the human body is one of the most unknown things in this world, doctors, nurses and the like really can not say how the body will react to any amount of blood. For there are some people that need to have regular blood transfusions to live and there are some that need to have blood removed from there bodies regularly(please forgive me I don’t know the medical terms for them but they are real).
I personally can drink up to about a liter before I feel anything and the only thing I really feel is light headed like a have gone on a really long drug and alcohol kick, it feels good. The problem I have with drinking blood is that it is an addiction just like drugs, alcohol, and the likes of those things. But don’t think I can drink my fill no I will get physically sick after about a liter and a half if I am not doing it right and take the time to adjust to it being in my body.
This all really comes down to your own body, the best example I can think of is the people that cant drink milk with out getting sick, it falls in to the same principal I think.
Please feel free to massage me back I really do like this line of conversation if you would like to continue it I would really enjoy that.
some fetashis is accurate however there is a lot of iron in the blood some people with low Iron need blood transfusions so fo one of the to actuall shed blood and drink it is not unlikely however I"m am wolf so I do not grave blood I crave the flesh
I am in the medical field and I know about blood types. I have had A pos and O neg and to me they taste different...I prefer the O neg.
I am in the medical profession and have not heard that your stomach rejects blood when drank yet to bleed internally etc. yes it is not a pretty sight. however it is interesting to find out just how much a person can/could consume at a given time.. I myself do not feed on blood only energy from nature and such.. Intersting thread ..
I drink blood as a religious aspect. I have also gotten a group of close friends and we drink each others blood as an entry fee. We drink about a glass everytime. For the weak stomachs we mix it with pop or kooladeor anything they want really. There hasn't been anyone that threw up really because of drinking the blood.
i never really get a measurable amount... usually just a taste. But I think it has more to do with the blood itself and the person who's drinking it than the amount.
never measured the amount i drank, but sometimes i drink quite a bit and i have never thrown up
I havent drank blood yet but i believe that over time you body can learn to handle handle the blood you drink. someone like certain foods its hard to keep down but after a while you get used to it and you can eat it whenever.
i guess
he could be right they might be basing there studies on people who have never drunk blood before
To get the true facts they would have to get someone that never drank blood before and would would have to see him drink blood over a time to see if his body adapts to it.
sounds like an interesting experiment - anyone out there keen to try it? i've heard a lot of people say there is iron in blood, but there is iron in meat, and in some vegetables. if you can't get it by digesting that, how can you get it from drinking blood?is blood easier to digest than spinach or cooked meat?
i would do it but yah i dont like the tast of blood that much ill drink my own but thats about it. but yes it would be a interesting experiment. at least we would get the fact about drinking blood.
It would be interesting to find out the results if someone did an actual study on this. Like an independent research company.
i have never drank blood myself.....but i am sure there is a limit to the intake amount at one time....just like in anything else....
Never drank blood in big quantity, only from small injuries,so i can not tell how does it taste to me... I would like to find this out, but i am not sure what blood should i use. My own? animal´s? ask someone?
I have only drank blood a few times, so i cant really say anything. But it was intresting reading what everyone had to say on the matter *smiles*
this is the first time i have heard that there was a limit to how much a person could drink blood. I learn something new everyday.
I have never kept track of how much blood I drink at a time...But I think that the doctors may be wrong in some cases...and right in others. I think everyone knows there are people out there who claim to be a blood drinker but have never tasted anything more than a tiny sip, lick of a wound, etc...
I have a few questions on drinking blood, i am owned by a vampire and he drinks blood. this is very new to me, the thought of drinking blood, just puts chills down my spine, but as i have read in this thread, alot of people do it. what does drinking blood really do for people, can someone enlighten me, as i am very interested in learning all about this.
thank you
as karnstein had written above, drinking blood for vampires (or rather sanguinary vampires) is either for nourishment or a fetish...
and i agree of having that experiment on blood drinking. not all medical statements are true, maybe they tried it on people who aren't used to drinking blood.
but why not try to experiment on people who claimed to be sanguinary and look at the difference on the amount of blood they can take...
and anway, midnightravyn, if you are really owned by a vampire, i really think that you have an idea what drinking blood is for.. your owner could have explained it to you, or you could ask him.. *smile*
Hmmmmm, well everyone has their limits and the actual stomach depends greatly on this. But I can testify that I have drank more than a glass at a time, I don't know if I fall into the few that can do that or not, I'm just saying that with me. The doctors and such go on what they know, and what they know comes from what they research, and a lot of what they research is inconclusive or falls short of what involves everyone.
experts are idiots i know a lot of ppl who drink alot of blood and theve never thrown up
a woman was found dead after a night out where she had attendended a feeding party, if you will. She had died from the intake of blood. And during the autopsy they found her stomach held more then a litre of blood. Tho it was not this that killed her, rther what the blood had done to her system.
i thimk only stupid people drink blood i mean we a r human if u think u r a real vampire u r insane cux nobody can drink blood like they sayds
well, chippy proved that drinking blood doesn't kill you..
besides, do only animals have the right to drink blood? i think there's no diference if HUMANS drink blood, its what they want so why dont we respect it?
i only drink the blood of my friends and its uslely when we are doing soul like spells
I've never actively participating in drinking blood other than maybe licking the blood from someone's already existing cut. But I haven't ever bled anyone. For me it's more of a fetish than anything since I tend to need prana instead of whatever is in the blood.
my Owner did his best to explain it to me
i just think it is fasinating, this is all new to me, and i just want to learn and read up on it.
blood is yummy and some people think you can't drink blood? oh and if you're not carefull, you MIGHT get diseases from blood. hence why smart people use doners. **smiles**
