When did anime become paart of the vampire world/ Isn't this kinda degrading?
nit realy its stell vampires but there has never bin a vampire on film that we know of and anime is just life drawn
Anime and vampires are nothing more than entertainment for vamps. I have a cool manga called Vampire Knight. Way cool manga and fits well into the vampire mystique ala fiction. Nothing to get worked up over.
Anime is simply an art. A way of entertaining the masses. I don't take anything I see on television that serious, nor would I think that it was degrading me (less the news of course). Just look at it as another way of arousing curiousity in individuals that haven't got a clue.
true it's fun to watch and no ones seems to think about a cartoon that much , unless they know it's true
I don't see how anime could be degrading to vampires. Anime is just another medium for vampire stories. It's no different from comics, books, and movies on vampires. People don't consider Anne Rice's chronicals to be degrading to vampires so why would anime be degrading.
anime is just amusement for us all. nomore degrading than anything else out there. so don't worry about it. i think some of the animes out there actually get really close to how life is for us.
I find it entertaining as well. from stories, to movies, to fan fics to anime. just a cycle to entertain everyone.
Katye
Anime is just, like most everyone else is saying, entertainment. It also fallows the way most people describe vampires really well. I have this one series called BloodAlone. It's really good.
Ive actually become fond of the anime series that comes on at night. they are very interesting.
isnt it part of free will and peoples right to freedom of expression?
Oooohhhh, blood spray, blood spray!
I've recently (after a 15 year hiatus) gotten back into Japanamation (as we used to call it) and Manga; I personally think that eastern thought meshes better with "awakening" than roman thought. I also enjoy the intellectual effort of having to interpret other cultural references and reading right to left and back to front. Anything that brings you out of the box is benificial to any culture, IMHO.
you guys should check out trinity blood, and inuyasha, bleach, ect all very good the second two arent about vampires but they are good.
OK, I'll ask it. Degrading to whom? Real vampires? Somehow I think most members here have a sense of humor and can have a good laugh. Anyone who would feel degraded, wouldn't be watching anime in the first place.
well if that was so how about all the books and pictures that have been done?
no I realy don't think it is a problem I enjoy it a lot.
Like novels and movies.. its just entertainment in my book.
I wouldnt give up my Vampire Hunter D movie for anything.. well.. maybe a few things....
Is anime different to graphic novels/comic books? Apart from the different style of art?
Anime is usually a cartoon adaption of manga which is the Japanese version of comic books. The cartoons are usually more graphic and violent than American cartoons.
As a westerner raised with little to no Aisan influence I find anime often goes in a different direction than I expect even in the vampire related ones. This makes it a very different art form for me and I enjoy it. I would think even a "vampire" needs to be able to laugh at himself.
I love anime and manga. It is my favorite art form because it is not only a visual, it is a story, too :P And most of them are incredibly great (addicting, really). Some you can relate to, others you can't (but wish you could). I don't know anyone who would put it down as degrading simply because it depicted Vampires in another light.
Its interesting on how many ways things can be told. Movies, books, comics, cartoons and all. But no i wouldnt think it would be degrading. Just entertainment.
It is just entertainment, but according to the movie industry they will take anything and bastarcize it just to make a buck
I don't see how it would be degrading! It's just entertainment!
Nightgame brings up an interesting point; Japanese art does not follow western CONVENTIONALISMS and is not as predictable as, say, Disney.
The OCCIDENTALIST imitations of oriental art of this nature are generally, just plain, bad... primarily because of their PREDICTABLENESS.
I remember when I was first watching Akira in the 80's, and laughing my ass off when the bridge collapses and it looks like a couple of people are about to FORFEND their fates; a piece of RUMMAGE squashes them.
This is a REOCCURRING theme in Japanese literature/theatre... there are some things you can't escape; a fatalism (I always associate the word with death, but by dictionary definition this is not so... it is more associated with fate) that is completely absent in most western art.
I think that PREDESTINARIANISM is a big part of Vampire and/or Goth culture, and so I think that Japanese art of this nature generally applies. A lot of modern western culture is Disnified... we like to think that rape, death, and CONCEQUENCIALISMS don't exist.
Who here doesn't enjoy the SUPERANNUATED Brothers Grimm, which had these PHENOMINA UNEQUIVICALLY?
i agree with you guys, its just entertainment. you liking this type of entertainment is up to you and if you dont, just dont watch it. simple, no?
I agree. If you don't like it, don't watch it, but don't go and try and make people who do watch it feel like they are lower forms of being. I love Hellsing. I think it is a great anime, and no, it doesn't have that much to do with real vampires, but it is fun to watch. Just like any other vampire movie, or anne rice book, they are works of fiction, not to be taken seriously.
i agree. it is gennerally as the author/artist sees things and that is how they write it. it's not degrading. plus, the japanese have a higher spiritual connection to the unknown than many others.
I understand what she is getting at on it being degrading. i find it degrading saying a vampire is sexy because it reminds me of one of those cheap raunchy vampire pornos. i call them beautiful instead. it is her view on the matter of anime shows/movies ect. I respect her thoughts on this. i still love anime though. ive become addicted to it these past few weeks.
I would have to say it is nothing more than entertainment. I personnally enjoy both Vampire Hunter D movies as well as the series Trinity Blood.
I wouldn't consider it degrading, besides, a lot of anime is based on novels and other written works. If someone is going to take the time to study, interpret and express a topic, i would definately say that shows respect to the subject.
anime shows and movies are purely there for entertainment purposes.. and i hardly think they are degrading..
I guess I should refrase my question a tad bit. I have read several comics in my day and watched I think about every vampire movie rather it be cartoon or not. But the title anime really makes me question if it would offend someone. It doesnt bother me at all I just wandered if some would take offense to that title.Kinda like saying vampires are a joke i don't know.
Ok, first I dont see the issue.. Second do any of you understand why Anime was created? Anime was org. created to portray acts that were not acceptable by the Japanses people for humans to do.. Anime over in Japan is like Law and order is here it TV and Movies like Hollywood... So if there is an issue with Vampires being in Anime then this thread should include our TV Vampires and Hollywood Movies...
It's a money maker..Hollywood will use anything or anyone to make a dime. Sadly Vampires aren't portrayed correctly.
trinity blood is an awsome anime tat comes on adult swim on saturdays
i love anime. it's a great artform. animated vampires are no differant then an actor dressing up for a film. unless you find movies degrading also
Personally I find nothing degrading about Anime vampirism.
I really enjoy Vampire hunter D, and also Trinity Blood, which is kind of a future Vatican versus Vampire Empire thing.
Though I wish [AS] showed subs instead of dubs. *sad*
One can only take so many badly dubbed voices.
Wait I just got off topic....
Vampire animes are the best!!! Trinity Blood especially. I love it. :P
Rising sun-
I understand the same way for anime. women in chinese and japanese culture back then were not allowed to show their bodies to doctors for it being a disrespect. they made figurines out of clay ect to show where they were hurting and the doctors would tell them what they need. Though that was completely off subject...lets just say those who didnt know this know now and that you learn something new everyday.
well I believe that it is no different then movies with real people because none of it its really showing the true way's of vampires so yeah but I really enjoy the anime Vampire Hunter D
Not my cup of tea, but certainly not a problem for me. In fact, far as I know, they haven't done a single anime storyboard on my life yet. THAT's a bit degrading *grumble*
I agree that Anime is just another type of media. Like comic books, cartoons and movies...it keeps vampires out there in the public eye.
well thats kewl I guess i understand a little better now thanks everyone.
Charskiss, you are welcome...Please feel free to drop me a line if you would like to talk about this in more detail...
I would think that eastern ways have believed in spirits, demons, and dragons way longer than the western world with there one god and closed minds. That is except the natives. But animation is the best way to show how different types of vampyres live (ha ha) and act and what there powers should and mostlikely are..... that is just from my mind to you, how people get offended or feel degraded is odd to me.......
This sort of strikes a nerve.. not in a bad way, of course. A lot of Japanese pop-culture is summed up in Anime. Even I used to be a fanatic. The Japanese enjoy their "cartoons" and express themselves through them. I used to watch a small series called NightWalker that was not at all degrading, but rather expanded upon the idea of vampirism and vampyric ability. To me, anime is one and the same as Interview with the Vampire. Just another source of entertainment.
Argggs! Don't even get me started on that..so many of the younger kids get these cartoons confused with real vampires.when it is only a cartoon for bloody sake!
I'm not at all in to anime; but it's just another form of art and expression. Don't see how it could be taken as degrading really.
ok so vampires are becoming well known. no-one has a problem with film vampires no matter how far from the truth they are. so whats the problem in cartoons. its some-ones opinion on vampires drawn from imagionation. big deal.
true. alot of cartoons, any entertainment really, is from the minds of the one who create it
it's actually interesting to me what the japanese have done with vampires. sure there are errors half the time... anime tends to screw alot of "foriegn" things up though.
i don't think it's a big deal though... anime is one of those things that can be shrugged off for it's "impossibilities" anyways, it's obviously not real, therefor i don't see how it can degrade something.
The question seems to have a general consensus of answer.
