Milankovitch has calculated that every so many years the earth changes its axis.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles
do you think that mabe the reason that the two islands of that time that were of intellect died becouse of this change in axis. of course the two islands were atlantis and lemuria

another question of relevance for some of the old boys here. do you think being that magnetic field is the cause of many of our problems ie energy work fixing these problems.
That a great change in axis in the planet would change the effect of peoples thoughts. maby one axis makes us violent and self destructive and the other kind. I think it would at least do something to our minds being that it is such a large magnetic field. but that is just my thoughts and I would love to hear some of the masters here put there input into this.

science does actualy point to the possiblity that there was an axis change of greater than 40 deg around that time.

Well I don't know if I really believe Atlantis existed or not, but a major shift in the axis and rotation of the Earth could cause a major catastrophy. Just look at the great Tsunami that hit Sri Lanka, it made the Earth shift of it's axis a little. What I am saying is that anything is possible.

i doubt that the earth axis changing would be rapid enough to sink islands. the damage would probably have been more widespread than just the two islands.
i still believe it to be a mixture of a volcanic eruption as well as a major plate shift combining their destructive force.

The earth's axis changing would cause quite a significant change in the climate of our planet. Enough of a shift would wipe out all life in one way or another.

If you believe in Atlantis and Lemuria, that is your right. I don't know that they existed except as human ideals of "what humanity has the hopes of achieving on a metaphysical level".

If they truly existed at one point in time, a major and SUDDEN change in the earth's axis would indeed cause some major natural disasters. We don't notice the gradual change that has been happening and look at the way the climate is changing these days. There are wild storms in places where there weren't.

So my answer would be that yes, there is the possibility that those island nations would have been destroyed due a change in climate, but it would have to have been a very sudden massive change to create the disasters that befell Atlantis.

Common belief has it that Atlantis fell when the abuse of knowledge of power and magick led to a severe natural disaster that wiped out the island.

You might wish to look at some of Edgar Cayce's writings if you haven't. He is a big proponent of the existence of Atlantis.

I actually don't think Atlantis sank at all , but was affected by the change in the axis . It is a fact the axis of the planet have changed many times . My personal belief is that Atlantis is what is now Antarctica . There are books that I have read that speak of this theory . I also have found information on alot of similarities between the stories of Atlantis and a site located off the coast of Lake Titicaca in Sout America . Not on the sea , but off the coast of the lake . It is a fact that there was a rise in the elevation the land in Peru , I believe and remenants of coastal docks miles from the lake . With the rise of the lake from the rise of the elevation of the land the lake got seperated from the sea . Do remember in the early history of Atlantis from the story it is mentioned that Atlantis was one city of a group .
I think it is quite the coincidence that pyramids are a common thing between different cultures that supposedly couldn't have anything in common . Why the similarity if there is no common basis for the pyramid .

those are both very interesting ideas truly. another thing in stabs favour is the fact that venus does not spin on an axis like the other planets. it is straight up and down as far as its polarity is concerned and it does not suffer seasons like the other planets. this would also give the idea of a major change in our solar system as one would think that if something span out of the sun it would keep an axis. also something else of not I would say that such a big change in gravitational force such as a new satilite around the sun would most likely move a island from one place to another and antartica is a logical place for it to be pulled too. then the question if this were the case being that there are so many countries on antartica digging for signs of mineral is are they holding something back or have they not found it. but this of course is a conspiracy theory and only probably if the two stated opinions above are true.

Spawn:> "I think it is quite the coincidence that pyramids are a common thing between different cultures that supposedly couldn't have anything in common . Why the similarity if there is no common basis for the pyramid ."

It's interesting that you bring that up... there are some metaphysical (hermetic) theories that discuss the Universe in terms of a holographic model.

A hologram is a 3 dimensional image like a photograph, but only occuring in 3 dimensions. It looks 3 dimensional and solid, but if one touches it, it disappears and one realizes that it is a sculpture of light.

Holograms are created using a laser beam and a beam splitter. One part of the beam is bounced off the object you wish to "record" (like a photograph), and the other is reflected with mirrors until it intercepts the other beam in such a way that it creates an interference pattern. The result is a 3D replica of light of the original object. The resulting interference pattern is recorded on holographic paper. And when light is run through the holographic film, it recreates the same interference pattern yielding the light replica of the original.

What's interesting is that if you cut off a piece of this holographic paper, it retains the exact same image as the whole, only smaller.

Along this same concept runs the concept of a meta-mind that is comprised of the minds of a whole species. We act as individuals, but are part of the whole. As part of the whole, we also have the entire picture within and have access to the meta-mind of the human race.

To illustrate, a study was done in 1952 of Japanese monkeys. Scientists gave the monkeys potatos to eat by leaving them in the sand. The monkeys enjoyed the potatos but hated the sand clinging to them. So one female monkey thinks to wash the potatos. Problem of dirty potatos solved. She teaches the monkeys around her and between the years of 52-58, this has become a cultural trend for the monkeys of Koshima island. The younger monkeys washed potatos and a few older ones still ate them dirty and covered in sand.

Fall of 1958 rolls around and the potato washing trend reaches a critical mass to where nearly all the monkeys on this island are washing potatos. What's interesting is that scientists went to replicate the experiment on other islands and found that these monkeys were already in the practice of washing potatos.

Though not a controlled experiment, it lends interesting credibility to a species and its overall consciousness or meta-mind. Perhaps this is one of the possible explanations for the pyramids you mentioned appearing in totally separated parts of the world...

I have been thinking on what you said jenova and I can see the monkeys as they are in contact. what you are stating as a fact and I totaly agree with you to be honest is that we are all linked as the one mind with small individual thoughts that effect every one in the group over any distance. this would lead me to ask you my friend how far have you traveled :)
I think I shall be asking more questions on this in future you seem to have an idea here that your only hinting. thank you.

i know about the theory of the "axis slip", but after all its just a theory. there is no proof of it ever happing.

then there is the location of Atlantis. i happen to be in the camp of believers that "Atlantis" is "Cuba". if you look and the southern part of Cuba you can see where the lower part of the island used to be. it is said that the lower half of the island was destroyed by a possible volcano or an explosion of a volcano size magnitude.

Atlantis was not in the Mediterranean.

Last time I looked, honey, islands are a little more than attached to where they are. If they move at all? DOWN... as in underwater... would be the direction. Any seismic event strong enough to physically relocate an island is going to destroy it.

If you have gone to a site or some such informational thing that can be provided to us, please... feel free to post it. THE LINK... don't copy and paste the entire article here. That makes for a long day and a lack of interest.

I've been on this site for over two years and it's been a while since some of our members could prove that they've actually been educated at some point.

Please, PLEASE... keep this one going on the vein of sensible, educated and (somewhat) grammatically correct posts.

i also saw this show on the history channel, whereas the theory was that the civilization of atlantis were people of great knowledge and i think it said something about being blessed by the gods and their own arrogance brought their destruction from the gods and a major flood was what destroyed them

but yes i think the possiblility of Atlantis s more likely to me than the possibility of undead immortal vampires. i just think that we havent the technology to find the lost city and eventually we will and it may be proven to be a fact 1 day.

We would never know if there was an atlantis or lemuria. If there were such things, there are many theories as to what happened to those islands. I really don't believe that these islands were real but the possibility is out there. I believe what had happened was a tsunami (sp?). Maybe the tsunami occured because of the change in axis of the earth...? We would never find out what happened to atlantis and lemuria if they did exist.

Blacksnowflake:> Well, I'm hinting it at it because it takes a little long to type. I tend to be long-winded when it comes to intellectual and metaphysical. :) But yes, the possibility exists, though it was again not a controlled experiment, that when thoughts and ideas reach critical mass among one group of a species, it forms part of the meta-mind of the entire species. It's a bit like a shared knowledge.

Though it is less evident today with the Internet and air travel, it definitely explains the reason for the world wide emergence in pyramids by totally unrelated cultures. Perhaps modern life has brought the meta-mind concept to a whole new level among civilizations.

It has been the feeling of many political philosophers that Atlantis did not exist. Plato wrote a book called "The Republic" wherein he described his idea of a perfect society. His idea was that this society could be Athens; Plato was very unhappy with the idea of Greek 'demos' 'kratos' (democracy) which literally translates as "mob rule", and his 'Republic' would have been a solution to the rule of the mob, in his opinion. One might think this feeling of anger reached a climax after seeing his friend and (supposed) mentor Socrates given an unreasonable death sentence. Anyway, many suppose that Atlantis was set up as a metaphor of what a society should NOT be; how greed, corruption, and misuse of natural gifts would eventually lead to the downfall of a civilization. AGAIN, he was most likely speaking of the path that Athens would take if it did not convert to the ideas suggested by him in the Republic.

Well, I think wether or not Atlantis existed is a mute point. In relation to the question asked, I think if there was an Atlantis, then yes.. a major shift on our axis could cause catastrophic damage.

Didnt we shift 1 degree last year? I know Florida saw its least active hurricane season in a long time. We had only a fraction of the rainfall we usualy have. And the south pacific saw more hurricanes/typhoons then it has in years.

With all due respect, Allgenre, whether or not Atlantis existed is entirely germane to this debate as the original question presupposes its existance. If it didn't exist, then the question is moot. However, to further clarify, it seems that the phenomenon most closely described by the question is called "pole shift theory". There is alot of support for pole shift theory, even some evidence Einstein supported it given the fact that he wrote a forward for a book on it written by Charles Hapgood in the late 50's. But it is, nevertheless, a theory. A pole shift would cause significant global climate change, leading to ice ages; there are some that see the many changes in the Earth's climate now as precursor steps to the next pole shift. Anyway, if a pole shift occured with relation to Atlantis, it would have done much more than merely "sink" an island in the mid-Atlantic.

I am sure there is more on pole shift theory on Wikipedia or something.

Some people get affected by the moon, and its electric field is not that powerful, so, now imagine the impact an axis rotation would have on all of us.

I saw a program on the history channel thet says that they could have been the antlantians. But just like the incan and myans they dont know how a people of such advanced knowlege of mathmatics could just end....................maybe just maybe antlantis was a race of beings not of this world. I like to keep an open mind about everything, and with the expance of space only a fool would think we are alone.........to many stars and planets and possible forms of life. Every thing does not have to breath H2O, maybe sulpher, maybe hydrogene. That is just what I think, I am no mathamatition or scientist just a being with a better view of the big picture

Daos,
(And anyone else for that matter) WHY, pray tell, do you believe Atlantis existed? What supporting evidence do you have to back up your assertion? An axial rotation of the Earth having an effect on someones mind? No, I think that would be the least of peoples concerns unless you mean to say everyone that remains alive goes crazy as they watch the entire planet freeze; I mean honestly, what are you talking about? Why is it so difficult for people to say things that make sense? I am beginning to understand Khaymans involvement in this thread. blah.

If cuba was submerged don't you think it would be written about? The people had the ability to write and document events, but since those nations were fictitional there was no documentation about their destruction.

Furthermore, even if there was a pole shift and there were drastic changes in the climate that resulted in destruction, there would be a record of tidal waves, earthquakes, tornados etc all over the world during that time period.

What if there WERE documents of such happenings? And they were destroyed by fire... then those documents documenting THAT were destroyed by a great King who didn't want his civilization known...

and so on and so forth...

LOL I think records of something that affected the whole globe would survive somewhere.

If this massive 40 degree shift happened, coupled with the slight annual movement of the magnetic north pole (that makes everyone have to add a few degrees to their compass bearings), would the magnetic North Pole not be somewhere East of us right now ?

I'm also not sure, and am happy to be corrected, but doesn't our planet's rotation do something with the moon to keep the earth in its orbit around the sun - if it was suddenly tilted that much, wouldn't it have gone spiralling off into space ?

The Moon weighs only 81 billion tons.

The EARTH weighs 6 billion trillion tons (yes, I looked this up first).

The moons weight is roughly .074% that of the Earth. Trust me when I tell you, we're keeping the moon here. Not vice versa, doll.

Now if the moon were to go off orbit and or be destroyed... THEN we'd be in deep shit because it effects our gravity fields.

I also happen to be one of those few that feels there is much more to be learned about Antarctica. One of the books that keeps popping up in threads around here is Fingerprints of the Gods. Now while some of the statements made in this book are absolute conjecture, there is a few seemingly indisputable points to be made.

First: Antarctica was in fact mapped very accurately as early as the 1513 AD in a way that could only have been done BEFORE there was ice or with modern technology. We didn't even know how accurate the map was until we mapped Antarctica in the 50's using equipment to measure beneath the ice. As a matter of history, we didn't even officially discover Antarctica until much later in the 1700's.

Second: The 1513 Piri Reis Map is more accurate than later explorers maps of well traveled areas like Africa or the Americas. This shows a level of technology or understanding of math and mapmaking previously unknown and not rediscovered until I believe the 1800's

Third: Antarctica began it's ice buildup 10,000 or so years ago. This is supported by core samples and underlying fossil evidence.

Fourth: There was at that time (10,000 years ago) a huge level of cataclysmic activity occurring on the planet with global flooding, temperature changes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. These are often cited as examples of the possible Pole Shift theory brought up earlier by Hapgood.

So all of these would support the theory that there was a civilization many millennia ago with advanced sciences that was completely or almost completely destroyed by floods, earthquakes and other geological activity. If it was in fact the inspiration for Atlantis, the story is so old as to have inspired not only the Greeks but also biblical/Sumerian legend with Noah, Aztec and Inca legends of their flood and Norse legend of the frozen world when the land shook and the stars left the sky. It would also mean that there could be evidence of that civilization somewhere beneath the ice of Antarctica.

Now the theory promoted by Graham Hancock is that 'crustal displacement' (a vast shift of the earth's surface) combined with a magnetic pole shift caused the destruction of that land and it's burial beneath the 'seas' of ice.

Khayman, thank you

I'd be interested to know what that weight is relative to.

Surely in space weight is not a factor, the fact that the planet is spinning is a factor. If the axis shifts, the spinning motion will then work to provide direction.

Please don't call me doll

I'm going to edit my previous post.

By gravity fields I MEANT magnetic fields.
Not gravity.

If the magnetic fields were changed by the moon moving, then yes, we're screwed.

But no, the moon doesn't hold us here and no we wouldn't go spinning off into space if our magnetic fields and such changed. THOSE affect what the earth holds in IT'S gravity and where.

The EARTH is held in the sun's gravity.

More so gravity than anything else. The speed helps determine how the weight is measured.

LOL @ Zodiac!

And yes... all of the planets are held within the sun's gravity. If a planet happens to have an other of it's OWN astral bodies (moons, comets, etc) THEY are held within that planets gravity and thus affect it's gravitational/magnetic fields as they move in and out of them.

If they move from their original orbit then that planets gravitational pull (magnetic fields) will get royally fuckered up and we're all goin' to hell in the proverbial handbasket.
LOL

I was doing some digging one the web about MU and Atlantis, mostly out of curiosity, and one of the things that was repeated was that an Island could not sink. I'm not sure I agree with that, but who am I to disagree with “the experts”.

I don't know if Atlantis existed or Mu for that matter, but if they did I would say that it is entirely possible that they were swallowed by the Ocean or covered with lava. How that came about is a mystery to me, but I’ve enjoyed reading the many theories presented.

No matter how evolved the society was supposed to be, if they had any records they didn't survive, so we're forever left to wonder.

At least until somebody masters the art of time travel.

It has been suggested by person's more conspiritorial than I, that any existing records of a society like Atlantis would have been kept in the most protected and revered repository of its kind back in the day...the Library at Alexandria, which of course burned to the ground. Who knows...

Angel4Blood: "I said the same thing in less detail" who was that to and what was that about?

On the notion that islands cannot sink:

Anyone know how islands get here? If it's an island... good money says: IT'S A VOLCANO!! Yay for plate tectonics.
(don't be a wise ass, I'm thinkin' Hawai'i and the like, here)

That means they're as attached to the earth's crust as the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Now an earth quake of INSANE magnitude would very well rock an island enough to sink it or the majority OF it.

The axis shift is a scientific fact and not a theory . As for the Antarctica theory . I didn't know there were numerous drilling operations going on , but if so Antarctica isn't tiny so alot could be overlooked . As for the conspiracy theory . Yes I think they would cover it up . Our scientific community likes to think of things in terms that it started here and here we are now without any stops in between . If there was proof that our civilization (at least in some part) then it would prove humanities mortality . That is a serious fear to many people . In turn may put weird twists on the common religions .

Its proven that the Earth does shift on its Axis. Its happens all the time, and frequently(every 200,000 to 400,000 years). There really is a lot of fact to support that, too. Ice Ages are just one, monumental marker saying that climates change.

The fact that our Axis just shifted a Gargantuan INCH last year, is proof. Didn't everyone hear about us gaining an extra second on December 23rd(or there abouts)??? It was in the news.

Which, is really scary, being that we're precariously swinging through space in an eliptical pattern with Jupiter. We could smash into it in the next 24 million years.

Of course... we are talking about massive time frames compared to the Average 80 year life span.

I have to say I kind of like the conspiracy theory idea. Political and religious leadership of just about every society through out the known history of man kind have been notorious for trying to cover things up and destroy the evidence. Who knows, maybe this time they succeeded.

To expand upon my made up theory... Say that mankind had evolved to be a powerful and advanced society, if we look at today's trends and our tendency to want to kill each other. I would say it's entirely possible that man kind could have all but destroyed themselves and civilization was confined to small easily protected areas like and island for example and the rest of the world was ignorant sort of wasteland chaos. If this was the case and the planets axis shifted causing extreme climate change and rampant natural disasters, who’s to say that the only two centers of civilization weren't completely wiped out. Maybe there were survivors, but human beings seem to be innately suppositious and do strange things out of fear, so the remaining people destroyed anything and everything to do with these cultures out of fear that the same fate would befall them.

Far fetched I know, but since nobody really knows for sure, I thought I'd throw it out there.

Well Altantis is a bit hard to believe, but I suppose it could have happened. I dont like to rule things out. Although I am not a 100% believer that Atlantis exsisted I would think that a force that strong could have the strength to do something like sink a city. Stranger things have happened.

Jenova - you spoke of a shared mind/collective consciousness or meta mind as your theory of things like pyramids.

Would it not be more likely that survivors of an earlier civilization were spread out on the earth with the intention of trying to restart humanity and that these people were the founders of ancient architecture (pyramids) in different areas... and the deities that legends in almost every culture speak of as the lawgivers and teachers who brought agriculture and animal domestication and astronomy?

All - We can refer to whatever theory we have for the destruction of an island or a city but there are many facts that support the existence (and disappearance) of an entire ancient culture. How they disappeared may be hinted at in the legends left behind by the Mayans, the Egyptians, the Sumerians, the Norse and others. They all point to the stars and processions as a way of marking a cataclysmic time period. Some of those cultures tried to predict future cataclysms and others merely tried to explain their previous ones. There is little good in trying to figure out if an island sank and whether another can (it's been proven that it can through plate tectonics, volcanic eruption, underwater sink holes, gas vents, etc)...But if an entire civilization or global age can be almost wiped out of existence, then there is much more cause for study.

Personaly, I think its totaly possible Atlantis could hav existed. There are islands out there that come and go actualy. The Bahamas are a very good example. Comprised of over 300 islands, sometimes.. an island or two will disappear over the decades.

The Hawiian Islands are constantly moving by the way, and as they move, another island is being formed by an underwater volcano. Of course, it moves to slow to the naked eye.. or even satalite, but the proof is in the locations of the islands.. when compared to where they were say 50 years ago.

Perhaps, combined with an orbital shift, such a thing happened to the legendary Atlantis. .. Or maybe its lost in the worlds largest sinkhole?

I can see how this could postulate the sinking of Atlantis, but in all honesty - I don't think that the movement of the axis of the Earth is what caused Atlantis to sink.

I can't pull up a source on this, but I can remember watching Bill Nye the Science Guy when I was about 8 or 9, an hearing him talk about how the Earth's axis is constantly moving, and that in some great magnitude of years, Polaris will no longer be the 'North Star'. This would indicate to me that the Earth's axis is constantly moving, and that if Atlantis were to have sunk because of axis movement, the movement would need to be quite significant over a very short amount of time, geologically speaking.

Interesting theory, though.

I have always believed that if Atlantis had exsited it would have broken off into smaller islands after a tutonic plate shift, similar to what happens during a major earthquake. If Atlantis did exsit there would be traces of these smaller islands. I am not a Geologist - that's just my two cents.
