I was just wondering why there is tis big need among my kind to "blend"with humans?

do you know what the media would do if they found a vampire??

first, they be speechless, then they be all over it, questions, and pictures, the newspapers be full of full coverage

Because most people are inherently neophobic..? Because the social mores in western society frown upon blood consumption?

Oh, and I can only imagine what the media would do...they'd be all "LOL, RATINGZ! WE GET STORY ON WERID PPL DURHURHUR!" :P

its in peoples nature to want to fit in and not stand out like a freak or something

I was taught by my Sire that the greatest gift that we have as vampires is our imagination, and the greatest weakness that man has is his benality, his inability to look beyond the aesthetic, we by nature can adapt and fit in to there world solely because it is bland and mundane.
I choose to become bland for a myriad of reasons, but these reasons are but a means to an end, the reason i fit in is because i am a sang vampire and to not fit in would draw many questions and attention.

I suppose it depends on the person, I personally don't want to blend in as to where i dont have my own identity.I have to dress a certain way at my job, because i like to eat and pay bills.But outside of work i canbe myself and choose not to blend in with most people around me.

Its for the simlple fact that it makes for an easier life

It is a natural instinct to find a place where you feel you "belong". Everyone craves companionship, whether they fully realize it or not.

I have never had a desire to fit in with the rest of the cattle and have openly made my point known. Even my coworkers respect that I am diffirent from them and do not treat me diffirent because of it. I have always been what I am. And always will be.

If you are a vampire, why would you want to let everbody know what you are? It would kind of be dangerous for them, if people believed and got scared of them. Their food could get scarce or worse. But, it could also end up like the movie "Qween Of The Damned", where everyone thought it was a joke and a fake and have the media pour all over you. But, regardless, I still think it would be pointless to not blend with everone else. Vampires do not nessesarly have to be dark and gothic looking. They can also look just like anyone else. I, however, would be gothic because I just am, and I would never change my looks for no one!!;)

I have played the game of fitting in for a while. It has gotten me no where. I still got in trouble at my job and I have had to deal with internal frustration also. I'm not going around wearing a vampire badge like vampire pride or anything. However, I refuse to hide anymore. My family and friends can accept or they can go away. They're nothing but walking talking bags of food anyhow.

If the media did find out about vampires they would never acknowladge the fact we indeed are vampires. They manifest we all have Porphyria or some other dissease to explain our lifestyle. Instead of admitting the existance of vampires the would say we are a bunch of sick weirdos.
As for fitting in, it is very important, well at least trying. People tend to be blind to what is in front of them but that is no reason to attract attention. By staying inconspicious it is easier to acquire blood and energy. People are not reluctant to be alone with you therefore it is easier to persuade them to be, obviously making it easier to acquire blood.
By this Im of course not saying we should change who we are at all. Im just saying we should blend a bit more.

I think the need to blend or fit in would be of considerable importance. I don't think it's so great to be in the public eye. Look at Britney Spears...need I say more?

Well they do say the best place to hide is in plain site. Most people fear the unknown and as of yet the media still portrays vampyres and evil blood thirsty creatures or as delusional people who have to be locked up for their own protection but the more we are out there for the world to see we have normal feelings like everyone else the less the media can do it damage

But its strange how people are and want to believe in god and faries and ghosts and things like that even though they cant see them but when it comes to our kind if we mention the words we are vampire/vampyre then we are looked upon as raveing loonatics or sationists.....when all we want to do is to live and be respected of what and whom we are ............ we are not asking everyone or anyone to change or anything like that...

Why are people so closed minded about accepting something so simple.....we are not what HollyWood portrays us as and its about time they woke up to it........

Fear of the unknown? I would imagine that much of this fear may come from the change in their normal perception of day to day life. This seems most common in some small, sleepy community that has remained relatively unchanged in the past generations than a hustling, bustling, melting-pot of a city.

I feel like a walking contradiction, for I would love to find people such as myself in the outer world to fit in with and get to know (have already done so with some Yu-Gi-Oh! and D&D players), but as for the rest of the common denominators I'd want as little to do with them as possible.

I suppose that even the most anti-social person wishes to fit in, as in many cases may have become anti-social because the couldn't find any place in their life to fit in (thank the stars for forums and chatrooms).

And for places like vr where none of us seem to be judged for who we are or what we believe

I believe it is in a vampires best interests to blend in with humans...for social contact, to study behaviors, for safety, etc....

well from past experiences on different things ppl dont like change or difference. be the same as everyone else. well not happening. just be yourself and screw everyone else i always say.

It is not the matter of being different, people on here tend to say that they are vampires who lurk in the night. This is about fitting in/vampires vs human. So dont put crap on here like-Oh its okay to be different.

some humans would not be able to handle the idea of us amongst them . they would freak out and hunt us down where ever they can find us . but are our weaknesses the same as back then . would humans be smart enough to find us hidden among them? tough question why should we hide ? and why shouldnt we hide ? thats up to every indivdual vampire acrossed the globe.

think about it...if you told someone that you were a vampire this is what would happen:

they wouldn't trust you
they wouldn't believe you
they would fear you
they would think you are crazy
they would get the guys in the white coat to come and take you to the "happy hotel"

thantapolis, you do have a point. especially about the men in the white coat. I spent time in there due to a bad vacation. Couldn't imagine how much longer I would've been in there if I started talking about vampires.

Hiding is what keeps vampire kind safe from human hunters. Besides, if it were to come to light, corrupt human officials would find ways to bend the knowledge to their benefit, which cannot be allowed. The corrupt an evil must be kept in check.

It is the same principle. Nosferatu need fewer members for this because of their superior strength, speed, and the way they can exploit human fear.

As to the post: the fact is, the media IS aware of living vampires and has even portrayed them somewhat sympathetically at times. But it does always end up in the Ripley's believe it or not style narrative. Truthfully...people KNOW there are "living vampires" they just either don't believe it, or in most cases, think people who claim to be vampires are f**king nutjobs. I think whether to try to fit in or not has more to do with how you will portrayed by larger society; sometimes there are negative consequences, sometimes it doesn't matter. I think it's just up to whatever works for the individual.

Sevenn is right; the media does know and quite frankly, there are tons of people who choose not to blend. Make your choice on an individual level. My survival and well-being is not tied to your being conservative and hidden. If it were, a site like this would be pretty foolhardy, don't you think?

Sometimes you need to be like the chameleon for survival,i find that during the day it is vital.but i dont tend to try and blend where i cant be who i am.you only blend to the rules of society(gag as i say that word)to a point.never lose sight of who you are.

Why i would want to fit in with humans:

They were the ones that created ice cream, long walks on the beach, playing in the sprinklers during the hot summer days, yummy grill outs, stop lights, clean solar energy, rock climbing, sun tea (thats a big one right there), GARLIC and omg i couldnt live without that seasoning, and many more...

As for vampires... good blood transmitted diseases and the fear that one day those trees will turn into stakes and kill us.

the question i ask you is why does *anybody* get on the computer when they have better things to do? what do you mean by 'better things'? i think you're looking too much at the hollywood-ized sterio-typical vamp. you also made a post that said something along the lines of if they (vamps) wanted to stay in hiding why would they be announcing it online? think about the site you're on. the vampire rave. while i cant speak for the vamp race, i can say that one of the reasons why *i* think they would announce it on here is because they feel safer announcing it on a site that dedicates itself to vamps. for instance, say you were on a planet where humans were a minority (and you were, yourself, a human) but you knew that if the general public discoverd you're little secret you're life would be in danger (b/c of slayers, the government, other creaters who hated you...). then you found a website that dedicated itself to humans by researching them and in a way putting them in a much higher spot than they currently are. wouldnt you feel safer announcing that you were a human on that site than almost anywhere else?

i thik its partly to make for an easier life and partly to be able to stay in the darkness and not be bothered with all that jabber and ppl in your business trying to pay attention to you and asking a million questions and watching. not to mention media... and then slayers... and all kinds of different things. its like being gay. I feal much the same about vampirism. After freeing yourself from the constraints of human lifestyle for umpteen many years; wouldn't you after so many years eventually move beyond human interest; or failing that at least then eventually WAKE UP and try a new path?

I believe in some ways (perhaps apart from the answer you are looking for), they still wish to be 'accepted' and fell like they fit in.

On the normal note: I agree with other posts, the media would eat us alive and humans would try to kills us all off somehow. The hunt would then be for vampires. . . . . not thieves, or rapists, or spies, the ones they should really be worried about.

Many want to blend in with their surroundings for protection. It's very animalistic in nature, I think. And by nature, humans fear and hate that which we do not understand (we need to work on that!).

Most desire to fit in, but there are those who do not and are ridiculed for it, both vampire and human. Most everyone wants a feeling of acceptance and are willing to compromise to do so. Deep down, I feel that at some level everyone fears some form of rejection, whether it be from friends, co-workers, family, etc.

That's really hard to say. Simply put, vamps were onces humans so naturally they feel the need to fit in with everyone. While wanting to be an individual they still do not want to be an outcast. That's my opinion at least.

Well, I would definitely not like telling my whole school. I mean I'm already deemed crazy so if I added that, it would be even worse. I have told a few close friends of mine and they haven't told a soul so far. Imagine trying to live your life when people give you odd looks and point crosses and garlic at you. No thanks.

I think the main reason is the general responce of the rest of the populace to something that they think as of now is a fallacy and fairytale.

no. you're right. vampires dont exist. at least not the type you're thinking of. the type of vamp that does exist is both spelled and pronounced differently.

and who says that vamp hunting has to be a huge profession in the modern world? i mean, theres tons of people out there with not so common jobs. take autopsy photographer and ant catcher for instance. just because being a vamp hunter isnt a common job doesnt mean they dont exsist.

If you are a vamp or THINK you are a vamp, what rational reason could you possibly have for wearing an advertisement stating your name, brood and fang size? As for fitting in, society as a whole, chooses to see and believe what they can understand. In the off chance you are a vampire and you wanted to "come out the closet", society would shove you back in until they came up with a warm and cozy explanation for you.

also the only way that you would be put away in an asylum is if you are a harm to others or yourself. their is nothing illegal by dressing up and playing vampire or "vampyre" (however you want to spell it). the only persecution you will receive is people making fun of you because you think that you are a "vampyre"

OK for those of you out there who say we are not real, put us down and call us names , Well I can give you one big reason we hide!!! YOU! We are who and what we are. I hide from no one and could careless of what others think of me or the way I live my life. to my brothers and sisters out there be you, and be happy I want you all to know you are not alone, we are many. Yes there are those out there that would cause us harm because of what we are, but I feel it would be much harder for them to do so if we came together as a people should. But that is only my view...

this is in response to steve1234567's post. Do you honestly believe that vampire hunters would advertise in the yellow pages? There is that whole secrecy thing to consider.. Also, just because something isn't in the yellow pages, doesn't mean it doesn't exist as a job. Think about that.

We all, humans, Psy Vamp, Blood Vamp, Lycan, "Your Kind", etc., have to share this small blue rock that we live on and it is much better to try to live in harmony with each other than be constantly persecuted by "do-gooders" trying to rid the world of "evil creatures". Humans kill what they don't understand or what is different. Ask any of the animals on the extinct list. Oh, wait, you can't, they are extinct! :(
Plus I agree with the many others who stated the Media would have a riot. We are such a small group compared to the total earth population. I kind of like my head attached to my body and my body stake free. Makes driving so much easier.

well even though we must blend for now, we should be able 2 rise 1 day. Hopefully one day us vampires and those humans shall be able 2 live in peace amongst each other.

also in addition to what was said earlier, our kind is different. Humans refuse to deal with what they do not understand. If we can spread a beter understanding of what we really are we would be able to deal with no longer blending. We would no longer have 2 blend in ever. Of course there are always those who would kill us if the chance were 2 arise.

Education really is the key! An Exellent point. The problem I see is that fiction writers have so twisted and destroyed any credibility that we may have once had. Don't get me wrong, I love a good horror shiver as much as the next person, but at this point in our history I feel no one would take us seriously that isn't a part of our community, that is.
