My question is how many of you feel that the movie the exorcist was based off a true occurance and if so does that prove the existance of devils and demons or do you feel there is another cause and what about all the actors who died making the movie?
I thought it was based on a real story, but the girl was actual a boy. There r quite a few of movies like this that actors met a fatal end. Also in the movie 3 men and a baby there is a scene where u actual see a spirit in the back ground. The enterty was based on real fact. The poligiest movies was always having troubles with things happening.
so my guess is yes there is evidence of demons and spirits.
It was BASED off of an occurance of a BOY that had a Catholic exorcism in St. Lewis, in the early 1970s. Holywood just took the literary liscence, and made it their own story.
Thanx you Flawless for your response that is true however your answer does not answer my question as a whole.
It was definitely based on the St Louis exorcism. There is a more 'factual' film of the same event called "Possessed". Unfortunately Hollywood try and sell the film as being the 'last exorcism' but it was in 1949 - the last one was in 1976
As I said somewhere else, I think that many of the folk who were exorcised believed that they were possessed. They also were made to believe that the exorcism would work. So they were cured
It isn't the same as 'the exorcism worked, so it must have been demons'
Exorcisms were usually done without witnesses, a lot of people thought this was to stop the demon simply hopping into the nearest non-religious body. It was probably more to stop anyone who wasn't going to be so convincing from distrating the victim.
The vatican website gives a lot of information on exorcisms, the last one ever performed by the Catholic Church was June 30th, 1976 - the church seemed to give up exorcisms as they realised that a lot of the folk who had had the ceremony done on them had actually been ill.
Yes I agree, the exorcist was based on the story of a priest that had exorcised a demon from a boy of about the same age in the house depicted in the movie, I remember watching a documentary on it.
Thanx Artemka very enlightening content Ill have to check out the vatican website.
exorcisms have happened in real life, so it probably is.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose.... is truly based on a true story...... The Exorcist is supposed to be based on a true story..
It was supposed to have been based on real events but the filmmakers tried to make it even more unreal... and succeeded... there has never been a movie that has had that type of reaction on the audience ever since...
heh. it was Hollywood, doing what they do best, twisting a story to make it more profitable......
Hollywood takes a story from an event and change it to suit them and to make the movie more profitable thats why its a movie and not a documentary. Emily Rose was a true story but they changed certain events in it to make it more interesting to the general public and to add a more frightening movie to stay in ppl mind
i know that its real.. becasue as of 1993 the catholic church had 3 exorcisms on file.. real excorcisms...
The Catholic Church has been performing exocisms for centuries. But, just because they acknowledge possession does it make it real? While I believe in demonic possession I think the church is truly stupid to think they are the only true exorcists.
Both movies discussed are based on actual events. I truly believe in possession by demonic forces.
I definately believe it was based on a true story...
Another I found very interesting was the Exorcism of Emily Rose, AKA Anneliese Michel
Also another movie were really freaky accidents occured on screen was "The Omen"
I can't remember all of the freaky deaths but one stuck in my mind, Im not sure if Im gonna be able to remember it all...
I think it was the director & his assistant that was driving to somewhere, I really cant remember were, and they had a crash, on the way to "Omen" that was 66.6 miles away, the assistant was cut in complete half
The Poltergeist movies also had a lot of deaths connected with them.
Yes I believe it's based on a true story. As for all the actors dieing. I don't know, that seems to happen in a lot of movies. Someone even died on the set of the wizard of oz, the crow. Just seems that happens alot & it doesn't seem to matter what the movie was about. I think the deaths just got more attention because of what the movie was about. It makes it sound more interesting.
I'll tell you this much shit like that scared the shit out of me as a child.....
Well myfallenangel, I think if you'd look up the deaths of The Omen, and how similar the deaths are in the movie to the real life actors & crew on the set died, you may change you're mind quite drastically
I don't know I have looked into it a little. I just don't believe things like that. However if the people were so affraid it would happen, then I do believe that by their own will they could have made it.
Each to their own....
I personally don't believe in coinsidence & in researching the Omen deaths, I certainly wouldn't put it into that catergory
hmmm i believe in possesion and exorcism as ive done quite a bit in my time. some of the events in movies i have seen happen. as for a cause most times i traced them back to dabblers in the occult who draw demons to themselves.
i do believe the movie was based on a true story of alittle boy- what ever happend to him after words noone seems to know....
well i believe in exorcism but the spirits who possess people are from different realms. they no longer have the normal characteristics that humans have, like a normal state of mind and moderate voice. maybe that would explain the scary voice and deviant attitude it has (like thrashing and screaming). these spirts are not well tuned to the body it possessed and it is the body is far more different from the realm it came from...
i know that there is a devil but the devil i believe in is different from what is the stereotyped devil today.. there is explanation for everything i believe...
and about the people who died during the taping of the exorcist, it could be that the spirits claimed their souls or something else... by the way, artemka and countessmoon's explanation is very good, i learned from it.. = )
Exorists were every popular in the 1960 tohru 1975. And as others have said the movies a based on a true story but it involved a boy
well i believe in exorcism but the spirits who possess people are from different realms.
Exorcism is more or less a subject i know little about, but being possessed is very real, there are many ways it can happen.
this is my own personal opinion....but i do belive from what ive personally witnessed that things of this nature does exist
i believe that you can be possessed by spirits or demons, but i do think the movie was based a true story...but you have to think...when they say based on a true story...they can change A LOT, as long as some of it stays the same.
Both The Exorcist and The Exorcism of Emily Rose were base on true events, of course, Hollywood took literary license over them and changed some details. The Exorcism happened in 1949 to a boy, which later Hollywood turned into a girl, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose happened in the '70s where places and names were changed.
I know exactly what HellaciousRose means about the strange deaths during the making of "The Omen". I have the DVD set with all of the movies, and there is a documentary included on those happenings - very freaky for sure.
just because a movie, or book for that matter, is based on true EVENTS, doesnt mean that it happened exactly that way.
I'm real sure it didn't happen the way the movie went. Look at the movie Wolf Creek.
The guy was tied up in a shed and had no Idea what happen to the girls in the story because he was in the shed. So most of the movie was made up.
well considering most of the people that were involved in the true events are either in hiding or dead.... We will truly truly never know all that happened on those dark dreary days...
well from what I understand the movie was based on an actual account, but as with all things hollywood felt it would be more interesting if they spiced it up a bit.
i think the movie was based on real things cuz i was always told that thes a fact to every fiction
I have seen the exorcist and the sequels. Yes I do believe that humans can open themselves up to be demon or spiritually possesed.
I think a person can be possesed, but the movie was totally fiction.
The movie probably was based upon a true story, but was "Hollywood-ized". I highly doubt the actual events were like the movie.
I dont think it was based on a true story, and the crap those actors did is why they died, they supposedly did some crazy life risking stuff in the movie, but I dont know.
I have watched all of the exorcist films and thought the same thing when i first watched it......what if this actually happened??........since then i have looked into it and found it was based on a true story and exorcisms are found to have taken place many times through the existence of humans in many different cultures.......i cannot remember the exact books and works that i looked at for this but any library should help you find out what you seek in this matter......
I do believe that a human can become possessed if they are weak minded or desire the power to destroy.....
Also, i did not know that the actors died, that's slightly weird.....i may have to look into it more..... =)
the pure evil is real as God or the angels, u may believe in them, and feel their presence, but u cannot see them,
it`s like the air we breath
The child in the actual even that took place was from the Eastern United States somewhere, but was brought to St. Louis to see some Jesuits, seeing as to how the previously tried Roman Ritual had failed. The Jusit priest tried for weeks to rid the boy of the demon, untill he called upon the Archangel Michael who's presence finally removed the demon.
Onto the film version; I have not heard of any of the actors themselves being killed during the filming, although a small electrical fire was reported and was put out. Linda Blair and Elen Burston did hurt their backs during filming, but nothing died.
I personally hated that movie.
I think it MAY be possible for someone to be possessed though
im sure poeple have been, and they based on those accounts
well i think it was real because i think demons r real because their souls but their evil hell is being over populated
an one wanna come meet my daughter?? there are a couple of stories to tell there!!
I belive there are real demons and enteties that can posses you. The movie The Entity is also based on actual events and the woman that is protrayed in that movie is still having accounts of her Entity Attacking except they are not as violent.
Most diffinately there are demons and spirits that can possess one.I have communicated with demons several times in my lifetime. One just has to know how.I am sure one of my instructors is..*lol* but she won't admit it.
I believe the movie is based upon an occurance that happened in the 1950's.
if they were based off true events, then i believe that they are true stories. even if they are based off of events, the facts lie behind the film itself. if the accounts are recorded as true, and they have proof that the exorcisms really did occur, then yes, i believe that an exorcist exists.
Most definatly demons and evil spirits exist. I've come to believe in them through my own sightings. Though I think it's best not to try to invoke them, somepeople get a kick out of it. Fair warning... You're just playing with Fire if you try to invoke these demons... That's how you end up possessed like in the Exorcist and the Exorcisim of Emily Rose.
The old was the best one...you can clearly tell the new ones look so fake....!!!
I seen a special on tv that said that the exorcist was based on a true story...
The exorcism is based off a true story. It happened here in St. Louis at Alexian Brothers hospital although they tore the building down and now its a parking lot. I think demons and evil spirits are real. And there has been alot of exorcisms in the past. Hollywood just made the ones that happened in this era popular.
Demonds do exzist lol and the cathlic church is hideing the facts that they still to day practice them just dont like to talk about it cause it scares most people that arent involved in these issues. The omen was fake I didnt find it scary at all lol. but the exercist was a great scary film, scared me to death when I was younger gave me nightmares lol.
like all good movies they are based on actual events but they change certain things to make the movie better
yes i do belive it was based on true occurances. still today I believe there exorcism going on today. that goes under socities nose.
The exorcist was true about a boy being possessed by demons, and yes I do believe that they are real.
i bet it has happened, i mean if all kinds of stuff happens why should this not, i thin, people think they are crazy because most have lost faith and fear what science can not explain
I feel it was based on a true story.... but I have always believed in demons and the like.... There are to many things that go bad in the world for there not to be...
i think there are many things out there and they messed with something absolutely dangerous for a stupid movie. yeah i think it happened and that the actors were killed for documenting it.
I think The Exorcist is based on a true story. I'm sure it was embellished by Hollywood. Exorcisms are real I think.
i think its based on a true story with a lot of hollywood thrown in
It's apparent to me that someone messed with something they shouldn't have. That was some awsome shit though...
I do believe that evil can enter a person if that person lets them in.
I agree with MysticMoon ... Based on true story , toss in a 1000 lbs of hollywood , and bam you have The Excorsist ...Is it possible for your head to spin around like that without some seriously fatal injuries occuring .. No .. Not unless your a bobble head doll ...
the exorcist is based on real happenings but it was a boy.. all i have is the same answers
Some of you are wrong! it happened to a boy! yes-but, in South America,in Argentina! my mother was in Buenoa Aires when it happened...i believe in that it was possession of a demon or satan. of course i do believe in good and evil...
look there are good and bad demons they can not help they are bad demons it's just the way they are buit
i have heard it is based on a true story as for if it realy porves anything well that i can not say.
if you go buy what the movie says then maby it is real but then none of us know for sure we were not there when the "real story" happened
Of course when Hollywood takes a factual story they blow it all out of proportion so it will fly from the screen into billion upon billions of pairs of eyes. That's just how they do. Although it may be based on a true story of an exorcism it was blown way out of proportion.
This still doesn't phase my belief in Demons and Spirits. I know they exist. ^_^
Great thread dear.
I believe you can be taken over by evil entities and if you provoke them and lure them to you enogh it will happen.
I do believe in the existence of demons, and I do think that the exorcist was based on a true story. It could have been an illness just as easily as it could have been an actual posession.
This is based on an acutal excorcism in St Loise, around 1955...very brutal in fact...
Yes, I have heard that it was based on an actual exorcism, I even saw a documentary on it. I was just stating that someone could have a mental illness and think that they are being posessed.
Just because people used to get exocised dosen't mean that they were posessed. And I think that the deaths that occured during the movie were just coincedence.
CountessMoon, the 20/20 episode you're talking about, did it involve like group exorcisims and snakes and things? I saw one like that and it scared the beejeebies outta me.
I'm put in an akward position on exorcisims and real demons because I have a hard time believeing in God and the Devil.... So demons are a bit of a strech for me. A lot of time I've always compared "demonic posessions" to mental illnesses. I've been hospitalized on more than one occasion and even heavily sedated there were people in there with me that in any other situation you would've thought they were posessed. It's amazing what illness and drugs (and I'm refering to prolonged use) can do to a person's brain...
I do not believe in God or the Devil, I do believe in spirits such as demons and angesl, as in good and evil. I guess you could say that I do not believe in two absoloute rulers.
im pretty sure that the "truth" behind the movie it was a boy. and yes i think the story is true. i dont really have anything to support y answer but i do believe that it happened and can happen again
the exorcist was based on a true story about a lil boy in st louis, thats how they got the idea for the movie so I do beleive it was true, and I beleive that demons and what not exhist, emily rose is based on a true story as well, supposably possessed by 6 demons including the devil himself
i believe that it was based off of true events, like The Exorcism of Emily Rose was based off true events. so therefore there must be real demons out there
The Exorcist, while based from true events, pushed "dramatic license" to the max. The two had lvery little in common.
But it's a good movie!
lol well hollywood always puts an insanly amount of drama into pretty much every movie, they gotta keep people interested...
Yes as stated above in is based on a true event in St. Louis...The Catholic church is the onlyone that I know of that still practices these accurances which an intence investigation of corse, and needs approval from the church..
in some parts i believe it was based on a true story but i also believe that the things with god and satan were not true but thats just my opinion.....
i think the movie was based on true occurances, except the girl in the movie was a little boy. i also beleive in the concept of devils and demons. have seen too much with my own eyes not to.
"I thought it was based on a real story, but the girl was actual a boy."
I will just make that little stamp of what DarkWinged said, since I thought the same thing, almost word for word, when I read the first post.
