What is it about vampires of myth, legend and or fiction that fascinates you?
If there is already a thread on this and i missed it let me know and I'll close this one.
For me vampires are mysterious, powerful, erotic, free and fearless.
The fact that the vampire is the embodiment of humanity. The love, the raw desires, the lusts and hatred. The emotional being that roams looking to sate desires. To be truly human, one must embrace their beast to do as they will. If you do this, then you become a full human, and it will not matter if you live or die. I hope one day to get to that point.
Honestly, I don't find people who claim to be vampires interesting. I find the THOUGHT of a vampire veery appealing. The flawlessness. The mystery. The darkness of all the fiction stories. Yes, Everything is appealing for the thought.
The thing about vampires that interreges me is, the fact that they do what they want to regardless of the consequences, there beauty, there intelligence, its everything that makes them, them.
For me, it's the mystery behind them. They're stong, powerful. fearless, mysterious, sexy, and many other things. lol ^_^
the reason i find vampire so fascinating is the mystery, beauty, deadlyness, the sexual aspect of drinking someone elses blood, the feeling of biting people and being bit, the darkness behind it all
I am interested in vampires because of the different histories of them I have heard, the way they act, the symbols that represent them, and the whole idea to each person what they believe about vampires!! If that makes sence lol!!

Yes, I agree that they are powerful, sensual and mysterious. They are also not held by the usual hangouts and morals that humans have. They are driven by insinct.
My fascination with vampires is not found in the stories that have been passed down generations, or the appealing attributes they may or may not possess. Personally, I have deemed many of the said attributes to be either true or false based on my discernment of the varying sources of information pertaining to vampires. The great mystery of their being is merely a sugar-coating of speculation!
My interests in vampires, as in all supernatural entities and forces, is discovery. Not bending my intentions with social trends. Not being led astray by unfathomable stories. ... and although I embody the guise of the culture that has been assembled around this dark attraction, my greater focus is observing and understanding truth of their being.
Yeah I find thier animalistic nature appealing also. The abilty to fly would be so freakin awsome too. I look at them as more cursed than evil. Animals hunt and kill but they are not considered evil. The vampire only hunts and kills to survive, many don't kill thier prey unless they have to. Humans are the only species that kills for sport. I also like the affinity vampires have with certain animals. The virtual immortality I'm not sold on it has it's drawbacks.
I just wanted to add that vampires have certain characteristics that are very cool like melding into the earth, turning into mist or turning to wolf form like the Gangrel.
My own fascination with vampires comes not from the stories or the legends- these are interesting but not fascinating- but by the number of legends about them. Vampires show up in so many places and over such a long period of time. The fascination comes in when I begin to wonder how much of the recorded histories about them are true...
i think its all the mystery about them and do they realy exist
for me its the erotic sence of the vampire nature that gets me there passion.
A vampyre represents all of the emotions and desires which are penned in most human beings. They are able to get away with and do what most people can only dream of.
I'm not really sure what my fascination with vampires is I just seem drawn to them.
I guess I'm with Blue blood on this one.
When I first saw Bela Lugosi I was hooked. I like stuff to do with horror in general. So VR has been a nice place to hang.
It is not really the blood a gore thing, I have always been interested in vampires from legend because they have always been powerful and never answered to any one but themselves, they didn't care what society thought of them.
The beauty, the power, the arrogance - everything that I'm not, they are. And I want! ;)
There is a book called "Our Vampires Ourselves" and I don't remember the author, but it brakes it down to basic terms, every century has it's own vampire. They are what we need them to be.
Someone already said a few posts up, that vampires have been reported in every culture, throughout time. Very true.
So what attracts me to the idea of vampires? Time, History, Fact, Fiction, Image, Emotion. Spirituality. Everything.
I am most interested in the erotic nature of the vampire of legend. The rest is well so over done. They can shape shift well soo what so can other magical beings. They seem luminescent and angelic but have the heart of a beast. this is what intrigues me.
something else that I find interesting is that as far as I know vampires like "Nosferatu" are the only thing with a grotesque appearance that people are drawn to inspite of thier appearance.
" There is an alluring romance about them that shall forever capitate me , be they fictional or otherwise!"
the fact that no one can explain to me ^o^ why I shouldnt believe..... Theres no reason for me not to
vampires fascinate me in the way they are almost gods compared to the human race, they are stronger, faster, wiser and they never have to worry about running out of blood to feed on, but i ask this, how can one martial artist blonde kick so much ass against fighting them? lol
The Power, The Knowledge, The Immortality, Stuff like that :p
When i was little it was about walking around in the dark. the teeth and the pale skin and dark eyes.
As i grew older it was the strength, beauty and empathy that the Vampires i read about seemed to have.
i wanted their lifestyle. It felt, natural to me.
It is now a mixture of all the things...but still mainly the teeth :P
My fascination started in watching Interview with a Vampire and has grown since then. I enjoy the vampire movies, the books, especially Laurel K. Hamilton series. I roleplay a Toreador, the lovers, the poets of the White Wolf: The Masquerade series and my imagination goes beyond just the roleplay, I feel the emotions, the passions, the intense eroticism... I would not hesitate to explore this in real life if the opportunity came about
they're one of kind and I love them, I cant pick out a couple things about them cause I love everything about them, srry I cant elaberate.
For me, it is their sex appeal and the darkness that arounds them.
to me, well..im fascinated by the freedom they have, and how they can survive on blood...and just be who they want to be and not what others think...i mean its like they dont pretend to something they're not.
to me thats pretty cool
for me, it's the whole package..but i suppose i identify with their separateness and that they symbolically walk apart, in shadows..probably why a lot of people identify with them too. though i don't drink blood or anything like that, i can understand their walking apart from others and the secrecy their existances require.
The fascination with vampires for me i think is that they are powerfull yet hidden, swave and able to bring you close but have no idea about what they really want to do. i think i enjoy reading and learning about them is because they are everything i wish to become, stong, dark, and some other thing but im to lazy to type them all haha.
Vampire's are something that has attracted me since I was a child. The I dea of stalking the night with powers only few could attain interest me
sometimes we're attracted to things that really ain't "normal" to the modern day society.
which to me i do agree with the most of ya'll
My fascination springs from fear. Yes. Fear.
When I was very young, I used to have dreams about being pursued by vampires. I could never see them, but I knew they were there. This haunted me into adolescence.
There have been three dreams on my life about vampires, which have had a very strong impression on me.
In the first dream, I am not so much being pursued by one as I am aware of one living in a house in some made-up neighborhood. This house was, for whatever reason, the one my great-grandmother lived in in my dream, though she had never lived in such a house as far as I knew. The vampire was malevolent and inhabited the house after her death and I became afraid of being trapped in the house with the vampire. The predominant color in this dream was blue.
In the second dream, I was somewhere in the wilderness of the mountains, and was once gain aware of a vampire. I descended into a cave and went very far down into the earth and sailed a boat in an underground river. There was a woman there who revealed herself as a goddess and guided me from the vampire. The predominant color of this dream was a dark gray.
The third dream, I was imprisoned by a family of vampires in a grand mansion, though I never saw one directly. I was free to go wherever I wanted in this mansion but unable to find the exit. I was walking down a hallway with a lush red carpet and came to a door. When I entered the room, I fell into the front most room of the mansion into a pool of water. I was trying to swim to the front set of doors and became aware that though I was in the presence of other vampires, I still never saw one directly; nor did they do anything to pull me back from my goal destination. I remember a woman vampire swimming past me; her hair was long and black. I touched the nob of a door just as my lungs began to feel as they were going to give out, and was suddenly outside of the mansion. I looked to my right and saw a glowing iron lamp (similar to the one described in the Narnia books), but beyond it was a void of darkness. I descended the steps of the manor and woke up. The predominant colors of this dream were lavender and teal.
I don't know why I was and have been so scared of vampires. It seemed that every few months I would have another vivid dream similar to the ones described above. I was always terrified when I woke up, but never were the dreams what I would consider a stereotypical "nightmare" (I have only had one of those in my whole life, and the subject matter did not involve vampires).
I am not lying in the slightest in saying that I have not once dreamed of vampires since joining this site. I don't know if it was an acceptance, something in my subconscious, or something else, but I am glad that those dreams seem to be in the past.
As I have worked on my fear, I have had a new fascination spring from scientific curiosity. I wonder what the biological system would be of a vampire if they existed. I wonder what caused the first instance of thought on the vampire. I have other thoughts also based on the physiological aspects of vampires.
I haven't always liked vampires, but last year after a friend told me about Anne Rice's books, I decided to read it. I didn't think it'd be a good book, but I gave it a shot, and turns out it was excellent book. After that I just started reading up on everything vampire. I know that most books most likely have nothing to do with real-life vampires, but I am not a real-life vampire, and I don't have any intention of becoming one. And yes I do believe in real vampires. It just isn't what I want to be.
i haven't been scared of vamps at all...
just more like fasination of some sort thats all...not fearing because vamps are different creatures....its more like catchin my interest, which is one of the main reasons i joined this site.....to lern more about them, and meet ppl that have similar interests etc
I relate to the belief of eternal love and damn nation of being denied it …..
I'd have to say immortality and the powers vampires possess.
Vampires are mysterious, dark and sexy. Need I say more?
I agree vampires are very mysterious you never know when you will run into one or not
I am fascinated by any kind of super being. I am speaking of myth here... there's nothing super about human vampires. In my opinion.
because they're people of the night and i'm a night person myself. even though i've been getting up rather early lately x_x and they're very erotic
Vampires of myth and legend are completely morally free unless they decide to give themselves rules. Look at most characters in vampire fiction and you'll find that they flaunt laws, economics, and popular culture. They decide what they want and ignore the things they don't want. They don't need to worry about food, rent, work, or entertainment. They can sleep in the dirt or in a five star hotel (with the shades drawn).
They are not tied to politics, social norms, religion (except to hate it usually). Romance is a foreign thing to them and as soon as they fall in love, they end up staked or as ashes. As long as they remain aloof and out of love, they live forever.
So there is immense freedom as the vampire. Freedom to walk amongst society when one wishes but to remain completely separate and unbound by it. Like the whole world is a game for your pleasure.
It's completely anti-social and behaviorally wrong to behave that way, to be the monster and like it, which is what makes vampire fiction such a great release for those emotions we all tend to have somewhere. Desires to walk away from responsibility or normal life and just be.
they are truly mystical and the way they are lead to lead there lives. There beauty inside and out, there heart and the knowledge they carry
Very well said FelixFelix that explains it much better than I could.
I like vampire art and movies, because you can a lot of good story lines, a lot of different styles of vampires and good imaginatations by the artists.
The mystic Vampire facinates me with it's ability to live forever and has youth, strength, suductive and just plain sexy.
for me, vampires are mysterious, sexy, deadly, worldly, and exciting. I mean, living for thousands of years, seeing everything change and being a part of that change.
im very much fascinated about vampires and their behaviors usually in books and movies, because i must admit that i've never met one before.
i like the idea of their immortality, blood taking, their sentimentality, elegance and confidence. its like they embody the image that i would like to be but cannot. they are a dream come true although in their position, they may not appreciate.
my fascinasion on vampires is exstreamly interesting, quite romantic and a bit fear.. its a great combination
vampires have been the basis of life for thousands of years and it's denial people that think vampires don't exsist of excepting the fact that they do...
i think its alot to do with modern culture of movies and such, and also the whole vampire thing taps into that what happens after death facination we have, cause initially vampires rose from the grave or so its been said
I THINK TEUE VAMPIRES ARE INTERESTING IM NOT ONE BUT I DO LIKE THEM.
i think the attraction is power.. thougth of someone being able to control you.. that and the mystery behind them
I am facinated by vampires because i do not truely know if they are real or not, and the chance that true vampires are around makes me think about what is around me...
i think with alot of people its the mysteriousness of vampire ism it self that draws people to it , i am fascinated by its history and its lore.
Hope this helps a bit http://oldworldvampires.50webs.com/
ther cool and mysterious plus they have unique powers and gifts that I witch I had , But I got some powers though but not like them lol.
not yet anyways.
I've never really thought about y they fascinate me. I think it's because they r powerful...they live by night...they drink blood...they r dark beings. Anything that involves the night...I'm drawn to. I have always loved vampires for some reason. Now u got me wondering what it is about them that I like so much. Thanks a lot. lol.
i am fascinatied with my knd becouse we are not like the mundanes and do not have all the same cares they do
For me, they're simply beautiful and alluring, and I believe that one thing which makes them so attractive is that you don't know just exactly what they're like if they exist, so you're free to use your imagination...
I've always been fascinated by them for as long as I can remember, even as a child. I think I'm more drawn to the erotism and allure of a vampire. The rest is good too. I just think the beauty and erotic nature of a vampire is what enthralls me.
As a child, I've always been fascinated with anything "dark" or different, such as vampires or werewolves.
The powers and heightened senses they possess fascinated me the most.
Believe it or not, vampires have never been a great fascination for me. Nor have werwolves. The most fascinating of all of the horror movie "monsters" have been Zombies. The interest in vampires just stems from the desire to drink blood. I have never, and will never consider myself a vampire.
i think my self that vampiresare an im bodyment of the very things we fear about ourselfs and the night that what i think
Omg... Where do I start? Vampires are seductive creatures for the most part. The allure of immortality... We all would like to think that a creature such as a vampire would fall in love with us and turn us and make us immortal and powerful. We'd like to think that we're special enough to get that kind of attention. We're also attracted to their suffering. We're pulled in by the complexity of their weakness and their strength.
If it's a hot looking female vampire with blonde or burnette hair that's stacked of course. I would be very fasinated.
I find everything about vampires very fascinating. Haha...(:
I honestly don't believe there are real "vampires" I don't think there ever has been. I believe it is a lifestyle and that is why I am here..I like to learn new things, and I like to see how other people express themselve through who they are and how they live. Just me
I don't believe in the myth/movie type of vampire either but I think it is the awe for that type of vampire that draws a lot of people to the lifestyle. For me it's the similaritie I find in myself that draws me and no I don't think I have any "super" powers, I mean like the taste for blood, being nocturnal and sensitivity to the sun.
well i dont know what it is that really attracts me to vamps i have been 1 for as long as i can remember
The Eroticism of the vampire appeals to me
The sense that one must kill to survive but lives guilt-free
The sense that one can influence those that surround themselves
Realy ?
Guilt free … why?
If you hunt an animal and shoot it … you should eat it .
Being part of the top food chain … why guilt?
The vampire was once human... thus killing other humans is murder.
To not see ones reflection, or to live without humanity/emotion seems a fair release
For me its the sensuality, the mystery and the dark aspects of a vampire that has me fascinated and attracted to vampires. They embody the darker side of us, raw animal instinctual power... rather sexy and deeply intriguing.
Vampires fascinate me because they are erotic, mysterious, and so much more. Some are perfect, some have more money than they know what to do with, and some are even "immortal". I WOuldnt want immotality, but the rest, bring it on =D
Unlike most, I have a more Animalistic Nature. A predatory instinct that drives me. Vampires are alot like me. An animal that has to hide its true nature inorder to survive. Unlike Lions, Tigers, or Wolves. We have to hide inorder to keep the herd from hunting us. Only in recent history did the subject become an open and casual conversation.
The hrightened senses, the immortality...imagine being present throughout the whole of history.
WynterMourn, you'd want to be immortal? What about watching people you have grown to grow old and die? Wouldnt that upset you?
Vampire fascination for me is with the fictional vampire. Not the human version/spin.
Live forever and no worries about paying the bills. Kick ass.
I am drawn to the mythical world of Vampires because they are unknown. I find that not knowing something is more intriguing. They are said to be great, powerful and beautiful creatures of the night. I would love to meet an actually true vampire. To see if all the myths and legends are true or just a bunch of bologna.
I dunno, a lot of things really attract me to vampire lore, movies, books, whatever.
I think part of the fascination is that if you believe the books a vampire gets to see so much happen in the world... so many generations of humanity... only problem is that the vampire has trouble being directly involved with that crush of humanity...
for me, it's the power & the passion, love & lust & myth and mystery. You could say all of it, just to keep it simple lol
I think the ultimate fascination with vampirism has to be the ability to overcome death, to cling to a place we're familiar with rather than moving on
Nobody's really sure what happens next, so rather than have our life end, or be sent to a version of hell... we'd remain in this place, in this form however we could
I love the power the drive to obtain the darkness and embrace it. Living in the light of the moon, and the taste of blood is too sweet to ignore. To have heightened senses and to have no real laws set upon me. To be the one that is whispered about in legends and myths, mostly in the day as to not wake the very thing they fear. That's just some of it but I could go on forever. lol :)
It seems like the erotic side of vampires is the biggest attraction for most. I think you could take away any of the other attractions and it wouldn't affect thier popularity as much as if you took away the erotic aspect.
The vampire is the embodiment of humanity. Everything that they do is what we humans want to do . In fact we are Vampires . And some become awaken to it . And others dont . I find Vampires very beautiful . It represents mans quest to be perfect . To cheat daeth and live forever .
