In my experience, most Vampire groups or Communities are just a collection of Cults that are looking to recruit people for the sake of a good mind f***ing.

When I see a Vampire Community, my first instinct is to inspect it's content. For example, I might look to see the Drama/Information ratio, to see if the Spirituality side is just a front for something less meaningful. I would also look at how the community treats newcomers. Do they welcome them and give them the opportunity to learn the ropes, or are they harsh and manipulative towards them?

Many people who have chosen our Path have been ostracized from our families and communities. Many of us, feeling the emptiness that follows, have come online and sought people of like minds to join along with and to have as a "family" of sorts.

What are your requirements for such a thing? I know myself, the only people permitted in my House are those who are honest and forthgoing, since I despise those who play with their cards under the table. However, I offer anyone who asks guidance in the ways of this Path of Spirituality.

My requirement for any Community I am thinking about joining is that they are overall an open group, with little to no censorship, who encourage self-growth and offer guidance to those who request it.

What about you folks?

I see your views as views of my own. Save for the fact that I do not cater to minors in anyway. Too many of the adolescent social groups just want to fit in, I am not into these fittings in. Once an individual gaines experiance, they gain knowledge.

As you have stated, most communities are quite manipulative, though a very few that are the inbetween, are very forthright in what they wish for their members. As long as you carry on with open mind, the world is your oyster so to speak.

I can understand that. I would expect some to have Awakened to some point in order to be able to truly pursue a Path in Dark Spirituality, and most Awakenings occur in the late Teens. Recruiting minors, in my opinion, would be like playing with fire, and equally as dangerous.

minors have more to attend to in their doings then they think, they should be more concerned with learning on their own for their future, not worrying about what order they are to join. They should be training for coming of age, not relying on the groups that will take them in before they are ready.

I am glad to see there are others who agree. The aforementioned Communities would have me to believe that I am incorrigibly flawed because I think the Communities should have some morals about them.

I, however, know better. It is one thing to be a Predator and prey for survival. It is a whole 'nother thing to prey for sport.

haha....to become worthy of a title, one must spend the time and earn it.

One does not become over night. One endures their trials. if they survive them. then they should be considered.

Haha.

Even high school is a life or death trial these days.....Such is life to the instant gratification generation

The pros and cons in belonging to a group of vampires has been discussed on VR a few times. When it comes to finding guidance and inspiration we often look for ones who are more knowledgeable or more "awake" than the closed minded folks.

For that reason alone, I see nothing wrong with online vampire communities because it does have brilliant minds souls hidden among the large number of members. While the status system here does not necessarily correlate to education and real life experience, many hire up members have an exquisite mind that you can pick for any number of questions.

This is the first Vampire site I found. I certainly think it is very open...you only have to look at the forum to see that.

As for learning..yes I think thats available too.

Coven and Houses provide the 'family' element.

For many people located in rural areas, the Internet is the only way to participate in a group dynamic.

However, not everyone wants to be social. Not everyone is looking for mentoring. For those, they can walk their solitary path. Many of us see strength in numbers or we are just looking for like minded people to help us grow... both of those things can be found in a vampire community that you might not be able to find elsewhere.

As always, it comes down to personal choice.

When I speak of corruption in the ranks of Vampire Communities, I speak mostly of places not like this one. There was a place I was once a member of, and it's biggest flaw was that it was very exclusive and didn't take kindly to newcomers.

Many would see this as a challenge and keep fighting to get in, but it soon turns out to be a dead-end road, because while some will dangle the carrot in front of your nose, they will never deliver on their promises.

I think the red flag should fly if someone asks for personally identifiable details from you, such as your phone number, home address and so forth. Any bit of information those types get can, and usually will be used against you.

Yes, may words may sounded jaded, but at a time when I was most vulnerable, a Vampire Community vaguely similar to this one, many of the members there actually members here, pretty much had fun at my expense until I had finally had enough and lashed out, thus making myself expendable.

I have been very critical of these kinds of communities ever since. I think the redeeming factor about VR is that you do NOT have to pay in order to enjoy the greater benefits of Vampire Rave. You receive FULL service unpaid, but can get the equivilent of ELITE service by paying.

You get it all for free, and can buy a little extra. That is why I like VR.

That and the fact we can speak openly about things without contraversal subjects being locked or deleted. That was a really big problem in one of my old haunts as well.

Well, the deal with Lost Boys confused me. I mean, vampires are naturally powerful, right? They are creatures of the night with little regard to human life. So why would they go and Sire a whole slew of humans, just out of general principle?

That was my biggest problem with many Vampire Flicks. Still is to this day.

Just stating my own experiance of many years wandering around in this void called life. I do believe it is hard to fit in somewhere and if thy openly welcome you it makes you supicious after being rejected so long. when we go looking for some place to fit in isn't that because we have been rejected and don't fit in (now I'm babbling),, anyway when I came here I was very hesitant of the friendly peeps, but after being here a year ,almost, I found it is better and more educational than other sites and that is what I was looking for. Besides I do fit in here where in real life I haven't fit in at all. But in real life that is how it is.

With regards to the Lost Boys comment...

I think that the (fictional) vampires who "sire" a flock of their own do it for very much the same reasons that so many come to sites much like this one, or join the communities that Max has spoken of. Loneliness. In the fictional vamp's case, his existance is eternal and he craves companionship to bring interest to his endless nights. In our case, we know that this lifetime is still finite, and so we yearn for ocmpanionship to give us a feeling that we are accepted in a world that is filled with so many people who are different and often afraid of what we are/think/do. Even solitary hunters seek out their own kind on ocasion. And the vampire is a paradox in this regard. We hunt alone, but we are still very social cretures.

I agree with you. There is a lot of deception nowadays, nothing really is what it seems. Something I value anywhere is openmindedness, kindness, and people who are honest. I think for any group to be successful it needs to be made up of people who will admit that they don't understand stuff, and ask for help.

In the one I am in only consists of who was watched over since they were born. Like me but its along story. They are really strict to who is in it and who wants to come in or thinks they need to. And as for online communities I think they are just fake or just looking to fit in somewhere because they cant do it face to face.

I came to VR in hopes of finding someothers like myself. i dont live in a rual area but its not like i live in NYC or anything like that.

I was in a community for a bit. the only reason i ever got any respect was because my boyfriend at the time was a higher ranking member. but if i was by myself, they were down right cruel to me. i spoke out against the stupid petty rules and how uptight and mean they were. i left on very bad terms but i didnt care. i was not going to be mistreated by people who i came to in my time of need. i may have acted harshly and rash but they had no right to disrespect me and toy with me like they did.

i may be young but i am not stupid.

but my opinion on minors is this, someone has to show them the truth. weed out the posers from the real deal. there are plenty of teens who awaken and have no idea what to do. and no one is willing to help them cause they are young.

how are they suppose to learn and mature? why not open up and help those who need it?

I have yet to find a group of vampires that meets what I would need to be willing to join. Well other than places online. I am a loner I admit this .. is it because I am a vampire that I tend to shy away from people or simply my nature? I suppose in the end its a mute question because that is how it is. All of the communities I have looked into .. talked to people that are part of said things etc, seem to have this very strict idea of what a vampire is and how one should act. I for one believe that at 41 I am quite able to decide for myself if an action is one I should take or not. I do not let my family or loved ones tell me how behave why would I allow a social group to do so?

I totally agree. I want to be a part of a wider community but all the groups are full of nutters.
How can you vet for people who are genuine or at least going to respect those who want to understand more.

I have found the most acceptance in the BDSM community, where I can be who I want to be and move around with ease.

Its all how you wish to see it as. These Houses or Communities are there to attract like minded people to a specific cause. In many cases, yes, their cults, but not all are a brain washing camp.

All in all, I would say just find an online community where its not house or elitess specific and just chat. Granted you don't get some deeper aspect of a specific ideal, but, you get different perspectives that could be much better then that of a house.

intresting thought... i think it would depend on what you are looking for in a group and what you are hoping to get out of being a member of any group

I came to VR out of curiosity. I tried it out as free member and felt that VR was a place I could blend in. I have been a life long solitary and this is the first "community" I have ever felt that I was a part and not apart. That is even more so in the House I am a member. Even there I am a lurker in the shadows only becoming a part when I desire. If this "community" demanded greater socialization beyond my desires I would leave. I do not know to what extent this attitude is found among the membership of VR. It would be hard to quantify.

Yeah, most on the Rave would agree with that sentiment I think. As it is a very large atmosphere even though online, it does have its perks. That is, if you tend to shy away from the immature bickering and are more into the learning, and maturity that resides here.

a totally fascinating thread.. we all have our own reason for our interest.. but to my knowledge, VR is the only site where this would be discussed in this manner.

in my personal experience i have found that real vampire groups tend to have a more serious atmosphere as aposed to just the online vampire community,i also find that the net vampire groups tend to draw attention to what i call the wannabes and role players and in all honesty if one chooses to join an organized vampire group i recomend befriending some individuals in the group and ask questions before joining just because you think it's cool because simply put once your in"your in" it's not like the internet where when you get bored you can simply delete your account and move elsewheres.

I for one look at the people who are part of the community...if for the most they are welcoming, then I feel more at ease...for those who choose to only interact with learned members then I don't see the point of having the register option on their site...any community, online or not can have it's pros and cons...I find that VR is a place of acceptance and where one is welcomed...unlike other places that I shall not name

about the whole kids part from what i understand from my little sister, shes in highschool is that being weird or dark in anyway is now the norm or the popular. So alot of kids who would normaly be popular sunshine loveing people want to be dark because its cool and they join the sits cause they think oh i'm on it its cool. Being dark or considered a vampire is the new trend...and that alone scares me in more ways then i ever thought possible

first, let me say that im my short time being on vr i haven't had any bad experiences with others. as for as joining a vampire cult or clan goes, people shoul always do a little research before hand. i believe that most members on vr are decent people but there will always be some bad ones mixed in the lot.

Join or not. It makes not a difference to me. Most of the time people want to affiliate themselves with people of like thoughts and desires. You can see it in society all around you.

Look at the foot ball fans. They congregate all over the place. Geeks, D&Ders, RPGers, choose your clique and you'll see what I mean. However those of weak will will tend to be swayed and take on personalities of the stronger individuals.

I have seen and been on many vampire sites prior to making VR my home. The others are very cold and you don't feel welcome at all. Here at VR I have made friends, I have learned a lot and still am learning. People here are friendly, helpful, creative and dark. You can express yourself and not be judged by the outside society standards. However here there are rules to follow like any community and also you have to pay respect to others. If someone asks for your personal information you still have a choice to give it.

i believe some communties like some of you have said can be like a cult you just half to be careful who and what they are about and make sure you dont give out any info that is personal . I found vr to be the best thing that ever happen to me i have come to love it here and my covent family very much they have all welcomed me with open arms and i have made alot of good friends on here. i have embraced my true self through here and found myself and have been exsepted as a equal and not a outsider. This is a really good thread and i would just like to close with a thanx to all who have helped me find my true calling here in this place.

I have seen to much goings on between one Community and another.
Having grown up in New Jersey/New York..I saw the rise aand fall of a few.

Some have there Pros and cons so diverce that it makes them an easy target for younger vampers..while others do a kind of recrutment of there own.

My only advise would be to do your HOMEWORK...
If so is so is saying to join said group.
Find out if they are up to snuff.

But places that want you blood bound befor you hit the door I'd leave untouched.

This is one of many resons why I love VR
You get a chance right from the get go to see how things work and run..and all befor you start to think of a screen name.
This place Rocks..

When I join some community, be it Vampire or just spiritual, I show myself as I am, so no false expectations would be after that.
It all goes to that - Like me as I am...ok, don't like it, cope with it.
I haven't been into any other Vampire communities before this, and in some way I am glad, because perhaps I haven't experienced what they had to offer in bad way.
I came here to learn. To find out more about one of my sides.
I believe everyone has it's light and dark side and I have come here with my dark side. with my thoughts and feelings of it.
If about joing some cult or anything, I wouldn't , from the info I have heard they are just a bunch of ppl who do brainwashing. I better reside into places like these.

I am a loner to the depths of my lil black heart ( ask any of my coven mates here they will agree.. if they know me at all lol) so the idea of joining a group that thinks it can tell me how to act or fell ot think.. seems odd to me. I am a grown person and very well able to decide what is proper and what is not all on my own. I do not need a group to help me decide this.

that said.. the flip side is many people like to feel they are part of something and for them this is wonderful. I know quite a few people that are members of vampire groups and adore the belonging and having friends and etc.

For me its usually a case of they seem to have little to offer me other than wishing to control me and .. unless you earn that right... so not happening.

Dark Greeting's,
I have been in a rl Coven/House and in a House and now Coven on line.In rl I am amuseing thats why I was kept around they actually knew 1/2 breeds do exist. No they were not gamers or posers,On here it seems some are not open minded enough to believe we do exist. So both have there flays and perks.Myself I find most on here to be openminded.I am a Elder and Founder of my own rl Clan/Family.We accept all and all of us are misfits. We are The Lost Boys of the Desert Wasteland, and all of us have a say in all things.we do not doubt ones belief in what they are.On line I am fortunate to belong to a Coven that accepts me as am.So yes all in all I would say be careful when deciding if you wish to join a group and be sure you have the same ideas about beliefs.I also believe if any ask for help you should help them how else do you learn, but if the person teaching doesn't believe what you are they should say I can't teach you,not you don't exist.Sorry for rambleing, but thats just me and my opinion.
Dark Blessing's,
KA
