Split Personalities
A myth (merely acting) or is it a true disease?
Many people who encounter this behavior preformed by others think that the person wants attention and they are simply acting, in which case they are filled with disbelief completely and think that the other person is lying, But this is a disease of the brain something that can't be helped.
The movie SIBLE is about a girl who is forced to deal with this disease but not only battles one personality but several even boy personalities due to her abusive childhood, her guardian would do things to tourcher her, so repressing all of her trauma she was forced to endure she obtained different personalities to hide her true self, to be anyone she wanted to be and she learns through out the movie How to battle them.
What about having Schizophrenia does that tie in? Schizophrenia by definition is a severe mental disorder characterized by some, but not necessarily all, of the following features including
Intellectual deterioration
social isolation
disorganized speech and behavior
delusions
hallucinations.
the most common is hallucinations
in the movie
A beautiful Mind a Man Battles this disease not even knowing he actually has it in the beginning, in the movie he believes he is a genius able to unlock any mathematical code ever created by man, he sees things differently, he can manipulate anything mathematically.
He has a friend someone who has been with him all the way through college he's been there through good times and through the bad times only this person is imagined this person never ages, but as time goes on has a child a little girl only she never gets older hes learns over time to ignore them but they shadow him day and night.
He learned to cope with his disease
Many however never do, the are forced to life in this imagined world thinking that that is the truth.
then again what if it is?
what an interesting thought! what if the people who possess this (disease) are living in the real world and we aren't! suppose that we are the ones with a disease, a complete reversal.
I don't see the relevance to this forum section.
Please can you explain further.
Thanks.
well my question is What do others think of this idea that we don't actually live in the real world what if those who are diagnosed w/ schizophrenia or have split personalites are actually normakl while we who think that they are not aren't the norm ourselves you know?
Alternate reality sort of affect!
How would that make others feel if the world were truelyt like that
kind of reminds me of the Twilight zone in a way don't you think STABB?
OOH i love twists like this. Great pondering question. Keep you up at night. Until the dreamer awakes ;)
split personalities are hard to deal with. my ex girlfriend had this disorder and I thought it was all an act.
indeed! things like this go through my mind quite often lol!!! like what if what we see every day didnt actually exisit! none of it was real!
and all that we knew (or rather thought we knew was a Lie?)
Who would be the liar? ourselves? Or someone/thing else. I love the ending to MIB when it turns out the universe is in a tiny marble. I love perspective!!
are you sure you saw these movies, and didnt just imagine them?
Reality is what YOU make it. It is all based on perception. Those who have a common perception share a common reality. Those who dont share that perception have their own. Nobody is wrong because its all up to them.
I know thats the crazed thing! seeing something atleast u thought you saw them and they don't even excist simple things such as eating and drinking it is something I would sit and ponder for a life time! wondering the real truth!
you make a very good point KittensNrazorblades thank you smiles! gives me something else to ponder is therre an easy way to explain these questions? does everything have to be so complex and mind boggling?
As far as the split personality thing goes, what that generally is, as it is in my case, are developed as a defense mechanism to deal with stresses that went on during childhood. Some split personalities are very strong and destinctive and some are merely a sudden shift in mood and mannerisms.
I would say its a coping mechanism that would happen with more severe trauma. I know people who litterly black it out. Huge chunks of time when they dont remember anything from when they were young because its too mentaly disturbing to process.
Yes, you are correct. Sometimes because of intense trauma another personality will be formed. In some cases this is temporary until the individual is able to cope with this trauma, and in others it is permanent.
what about repressed personalities? when the person has such a tramatic event that they repress the event itself and then begin to have split personalities later and not know why.
Would that go under the area of supressed memeories? maybe your phyci represses them until it can create that other personality? Like something really horrible? Train accident, bodies etc? Not heard of this before, but open to discussion :)
I know that with one of the personalities I developed due to a series of major traumatic events, I didn't know she was there for years, and it took even longer to figure out what triggered her creation. In my case, the triggering event was coming to a realization that was so at odds with my main personality that it was easier to scrap the main one and start over.
I have a friend with disassociative personality disorder and paranoid schizophrenia... until he explained to me what he had, I didn't realise he had a problem, I just knew he acted weird sometimes and withdrew a lot. When he explained the situation, then it all kind of made sense. It was still hard to relate, but I could understand better. So yes, I think it's real. I don't think anyone would willingly and randomly put themselves through the kinds of hell my friend had to go through if they knew what it was all about...
In a way.. Most of us have 'split personalities' Depending on what mood we are in when we are present with.
If you're in a good Mood, and someone hits your car, you're more likely to be calm (ish).. But if you're pissed off.. Someone hit your car, you're more likely to lose it.
I feel SOME people are manipulators and use a depression, mental health as a 'excuse' to rouse Pity.
Schizophrenia is a disorder in the normal function of the brain. I believe there are many forms of this disorder.. and other disorders can be mixed with it.
schizophrenics Can mask their disorder, but they are not aware of their disorder.
"Mad people do not know they are mad, they think everyone else is & Blame everyone else "
Yeah, most people have certain aspects of their personality that come to the fore when they're doing certain things or in certain moods. Then there are the people who have actual separate personalities where their vocal pitch, resonance, speech patterns, and word choices all vary with the personality in control; often there are physiological differences in muscle tension around the eyes, jaw, shoulders and spine, as well. If you've spent enough time around someone who has multiple personalities, you can spot the shift almost the instant it happens, even if they're facing away from you or on the telephone.
Of course it's not a myth!!
It's not really a disease, though! A disease, to me, is more to the physical body, but that's just me. so whatever.
Anyway, people's minds can sometimes be a little warped. Come on, there are millions of reasons for it. Schizophrenia is real, people don't just make it all up.
well I believe that it is a real disorder or disease however one may look at it. There are many people out there that have many different personalities that they themselves cannot always deter who ia whom. I know of a few people who have family memembers like that and it is hard and sad to live with it and to with them as well.
My grandmother, the only grandparent I have left, has suffered from schizophrenia all her life. It is sad and frightening not only to my family but for her as well. On her good days she's my grandma who's a lot of fun to be around but when she has an off day it's scary. She suffers from hallucinations badly and can become very violent. When she speaks of things that aren't real, in her mind they are so she is in effect not lieing because that's her reality. It is a very real and dabilitating disease of the mind that is caused by a severe chemical imbalance in the brain however medication does not always work.
anyone that spends time on the internet forms a split personality. i mean think about it, really. we have our real selve. then the personna we give off on the net.. sometimes it completly opposit of our real self because this is a for of escape.
i suffer from split personalities i have 5 and have learned to control them but injoy them at the same time.
I know a person that has split personalites..and dont see it as a diseas when this person is one half of themselves is very quiet and reserved the other half is the partier..you can see the physical diffrences as well cause one half is female and the other half is male.
What is real and unreal? What is sane and what is insane? What is experienced by the masses is labled real in society and what the masses understand is what is labeled sane. So what happenes when someone experiences something that the masses to not? Just because everyone else doesn't experience it does that make it not real? And if someone comes to think in a way that the masses don't understand, does that make them insane? Society is what labels what is real and what is sane in this world, but that doesn't mean that they're correct. Just because they're perspective differs from you own does not make you ill. It makes you unique. Sure it may cause a few problems here and there, but it is YOUR reality, no matter what anyone else says.
Well, I guess I was a little off topic there. Split personalities, and multiple personalities. There are varying degrees of just how far apart these personalities are set. Yes there are some out there that fake having them to manipulate others or just for kicks, but for those of us that actually have them I'm starting to develop a theory based upon my own personal experience. So correct me if you dissagree. But it is my understanding that the more similar the personalities are to each other, the more likely you will be aware of the others doings. But if the personalities are very different, you won't have a clue as to what's going on for while it's in control. I know some that very obviously have multiple personalities, but sometimes information that is only revealed to one is known by the other. And that other happens to be the personaility within them that is most like their original self. this makes some people believe that they're faking but I belive that it is because the personalites are not neccesarily 100% seperate.
i know that some people may believe its fake, however, i think it is real, cuz most of my friends and i have the disease. some of us use medication and some dont...i have seen the movie, i understand it. i also understand that people will believe what they want to believe ...and thats the way things are.
as someone that has been diagnosed with the disorder along with several others yes it's real no I don't do modern pharmasuticals I self medicate that way I can still functution in life
well being on here or in a game of role playing then you are allowing yourself more than 1 personality so in a sense many people have the split personality a it were.
I think that how someone acts on split personalities depends on the strength of that person. We all have these little battles that go on in our head. Like whether we should or shouldn’t do something. When we are going to do something that we know is wrong our conscience tells us not to do it. That type of thing. Most of us handle these things pretty well, without even thinking about it. Some people are just constitutionally week. You know how some people can’t handle cold temperatures so they freak out when they are cold. These people are not going to die because they are a little chilly they are just bratty in a way. They are too week to just deal with the situation. I think split personalities are the same thing. Some people are just too week handle the fact that we have in internal conflicts. So rather than acting like normal people and moving on they kind of freak out and try to act the split personalities. I think a lot of this is for attention. There are people that are constantly trying to get attention because they are dealing with insignificant things that we all deal with day to day. The rest of us are just stronger and would never dream of wanting attention for these things.
that is deffinatly a thought that I shall have to ponder on more greatly. However if the world truly was that way then things would most certainly be strange.
It is due in some relation to some kind of trauma to a child... thus severly alterating their brain. Also if someone suppresses themselves to such an extent where they start letting that personality out... only they are unaware of it.
I relate most to deathnitegrl's response.
I don't have multiple personalities, although as a child I did adopt different ways of acting as a defense.
Now I act differently with different people. I'm simply more comfortable showing different aspects of my personality with those people. If all the people I know got together to compare notes, I doubt some of them would believe they were talking about the same person. Sometimes I'm not even sure who I am.
Excelent question!
What is Reality?
Some say, we all live in a Dream.
What is Normal??
Reality is different to every one. If you live in a world that is your own mind than that is your reality. Reality is defined by it's maker.
having split personalities is a hard disability to live with, people who have split personalities need our love & compassion. but there are those through ignorance believe it's all made up, often people with family members or they them selfs whom have this disorder at times live a strained life battling with a hart breaking disorder that can and has torn whole live apart.
This is a real issue for some people and should not be looked upon lightly by those with less knowledge.
Serebro.. What you said was really interesting.. Have you seen this for yourself?
I have heard of 'possession' being like that, or maybe possession is Schizophrenia?
I have witnessed something similar to what you mention Serebro.. in someones personality. Even their eyes changed colour.
I agree this is avery real illness nad alot of people do not take it seriously.
Split personality or shizophrenia is a serious mental health problem. Now, those with as many personalities as the woman you mentioned are rare. I am sure there are some who have faked the disorder for attention or to not have to shoulder blame for their actions.
this disease is very serious for people that have it. Last night i was at a friends for a small get together. It seems that one of the girls that was there suffers from this. One minute she was upbeat the next minute crying. After she had left the remaining 5 of us discussed this because of our concern about her. We all determioned that we believe her to have multiple personalities.
During the time she moved into her other personality she was ready to leave her husband behind and just go home pack up and move out. When she came back to the personality she always shows everything with thier marriage was fine.
I find it very difficult to understand how there can be people who believe that these conditions don't exist. I mean, it's not like they've just been made up or discovered. Sure there's some inflammatory press around it but that doesn't mean it's invalid.
My fiance's mother is a paranoid schizophrenic. While at her worst, she was certain everyone in the free world was out to get her. When her daughter was hurt in an accident, she wouldn't go to the hospital to get to her because she firmly believed it was a trick to get her to leave the house and be captured by "them". While her kids were still young, she had herself committed and was in the hospital for a fairly long stint.
Now, she is not fully cured, but she has developed routines and we always (me and the ball and chain) make sure we drop by and tkae her out for some fun. Luckily, she and I are such avid readers, she can call me at anyhour and just start talking about a book she's into --- this usually happens when she feels an "attack" coming on. When we walk together in public, she never lifts her head up -- instead, she plods along, oblivious of the people headed straight toward her and often walks right into them. She will be on medication for the rest of her life. Im not talking chewable Flinstones -- we're talking all the heavy hitters of the pharmaceutical industry.
She also had a cousin with all the same symptoms. He lived in an apartment in Manhattan and never left. He had newspapers dating years back and in pristine condition because he wouldn't read them. He feared there was a code in them and his harboring the papers would eventually be something he would have to decipher. Well, he went missing for about two months. Where he went was to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge and commit suicide.
So, I cannot play sci-fi "what if's" about this disease. It is too painful. It is very very real to the sufferer and probably one of the most heart breaking things for someone you love to go through. Imagin having to stay up all night with someone because they swear there is banging at all the windows (in a 17th Floor Hi Rise) and banging at the door because "they" are trying to get in. Meanwhile, there is nothing but silence. Now imagine what it takes to try and console, empathize and bring them back from a nightmare they're experiencing while fully awake.
it is quite hard to decide especially with the way most ppl are today, whether someone is genuinely plagued with the disorder or if they just need ridiculous amounts of attention. either way, it is hard to tell who is being truthful. but the disorder is very real. and i knew someone whose dad was schizophrenic. I never met the dad, my friend wouldnt let me. He also didnt like to talk about it and was very touchy on the subject.
my friends sister has 4 oersonalities and we are always careful on how we approach her
hum... that is an interesting thought... but to be honest no one is 'normal' and there is no true 'world' everything is how each person sees it... nothing can be done about that... each person develops different.. has different gifts... etc. who know having a split personality could be a gift of some kind
dont they have some really good pills to fix the problems of split personalitys?
yeah but whos to say if a person wants to confine the other personalities. unless one or more is very harmful. then whos to say which one stays and which ones go
I agree with *KittensNrazorblades* a reality that is received by many...can not be a lie.. Mental illness is very real to the people who suffer its effects and for the friends and family that must also endure.
My ex-husband was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, and let me tell you, life was hell.
It was no act I can assure you, it was frightening to him and our entire family. He thought people were following him everywhere, that our phones were tapped, called the FBI on that one; thought the computer was watching him and the list goes on. Eventually this brought him to suicidal thoughts and had driven most of us away, until he was diagnosed and given the help he needed. This is a real disease and should be treated seriously.
This is regarding the question about prescription drugs and their overall effectiveness. Truly, this industry is hit or miss. So many medications have horrible side effects that require further medications to off-set those, and so on. The truly messed up part is that these little cocktails are always different for each person. It hardly treats one person the same. Problem here is that often people develop further afflictions and sometimes are unable to recover from them even after the medications are changed around.
I know for FACT that there ae more psychiatrists with their heads firmly secured in their anal cavities than there are ones not looking to be pill-pushing glorifed drug-dealers. How do I know? Because when I was dealing with my depression I was put on so much shit that to this day I cannot fully account for almost two years of my life and I will never get it back. Sadly, my fiance and family remember all to painfully what I went through. To this day, I dodge medication like bullets. I lucked out and met a fantastic doctor and was able to work through my crap. Not everyone will be this lucky. Having been in the dark like that, I would never wish it on anyone. Your whole life become an ubliet.
Wow, never meant to open up that much... well, there's my dirty little secret...
Split Personalities and Schizophrenia are not the same...
Schizophrenia is a brain malfunction. The brain distorts the way that person thinks, acts and expresses their emotions. It's a psychosis, a mental illness where the person inflicted cannot tell what is real from imagined. And there are different types of Schizophrenia. It is a physical illness of the brian.
Split Personalities is characterized by the switching to alternate identities when under stress. As with Schizophrenia there are different types of dissociative disorders. People with personality disorders also suffer from memory loss. Not a physical illness.
This is why Dr.s will test a personality disorder ruling out first any physical illnesses of the brain
I am schizophrenic.Years ago all Shaman were considered schizophrenic, becaus they talked to spirits and travled to other realms.Well I'm both and I feel we live in different realities. As they cross ours at times.Split personalities I believe are memories from previous lives, and yes I suffer from that to.I'm even papered :) The people who I know dignosed are magical in some way,and it is a condition, not really an illness.
Pandora ~ I just went threw the same thing with my ex. But for a long time they just kept saying that he was bi polar or had borderline personality disorder. Yes it does make everyday life insane. When you get to the point that you think your losing your mind, you really wonder why it is that it had to come to the pont you are at.
well the two are clearly different as in the medical sense.
Sorry, CLIX, Im going to have to disagree with you. While they are not mirror image illnesses, they are both associated with brain disorders and yes, actions, emotions and the like differ amongst both. Personality tests given determine degrees of disassociation as well as the parameters of "triggers". No test definitively identifies one over the other. Sadly, there are too many common denomenators for those tests to be relliable. Plus, the tests can be manipulated.
I have been and seen too much to know there are only baby-steps in making these identifications but progress is painfully slow and the reality is all testing is done to do nothing more than try and whittle down the patients disease.
wow i never really poundered on this before but you make a good point on split personalities skizophrena. is it possible and we actionly are in a alternative world and nothing that we see or people we know are just real and we arent? good question to really think about so i will say this we are here but are we really? or is it just a illusion.
I used to live with a split personality and life was no bowl of cherries. It was scary and OMGH so unreal.
Interesting, some people think that dreams are reality & being awake is the dream.
I doubt that skitzo's are in the real world & were in dream land though :/
I have SPD. (Split Personality Disorder)
It is a mental condition and you do imagine that there is more than one of you, but my brain doesn't realise this, I'm pretty sure I understand it, but at the same time it seems so real to me, like they're just telling me I'm wrong all the time. It's so annoying, everyone always telling you you're wrong and they know what's best for you... Ugh. I'm going to stop now before I get too into this post. :P
I have split personality disorder yet am a ble to controll it to an extent. and a great possability for others to live in a different world than the true one
It's fine we are all entitled to our opinion..to disagree is just another point of view
Maybe I should explain a little more about what I mean in them being different. Symptoms can be alike as with most mental illnesses. But the symptoms are not the problem. The brain of a schizophrenic person is said to be a chemical imbalance making it a physical disease of the brain.
And it is true I don't think they have even come close to figuring it all out. There are many types of mental illnesses with the same symptoms but they are all different
Schizophrenia an interesting topic. A medical condition which one person has two personalitys, some may be a mental defect (and not just getting attention or lying) some say its because part of what we want is not being given, so it acts out in our body while our real personality is said to be 'sleeping' inside the body.
some even say it is two souls in one, the other being dead and the alive soul is the one paying for the others past lives crime.
who knows.
Schizophrenia is not having a split personality, please read the DSM IV or related material. I like paranoid schizophrenics, they come up with very creative delusions.
i have a question about this.. are you talking more about Bipolar instead of the other stuff, cause i have this and it has mood swings which has personalitys to go along with it ?
it sounds like the same thing . i cant put my finger on it but my mom was a perinoid schizo.. she thought people was coming in her place and bothering her stuff and the other by thinking some one was following her.. she carryed a house butcher knife were ever she went tell the cops seen her with it and took it from her..
I take meds for my problem now and my doctor says im lucky i dont carry my moms trates causes it is past on in the blood line..
Having split personalities or Schizophrenia doesn't mean you are in la la land...you are whether it is you or your personality talking you are still one in the same most of the time another personality is developed to hide certain fears, or emotions....things that are being surpressed always end up coming out in the long run.
A person can be bipolar manic, bipolar depressed or cycle between the two. The best thing to do is continue taking medications as prescribed, attending therapy and developing coping skills when things get out of control.
Reality is subjective. Each of Us sees things, and experiences things in a different way. Every one of Us filters what they see, hear etc through their past experiences. It collors what We call "reality".
The scary thought for me would be "what if I am just a figment of MY imagination?" LOL!
Both are serious mental illnesses... and for so many people saying "reality is what you choose," no it's not.
You can't just decide you're fireproof and go stand in a burning building. You'll die.
My step dads sister has a split personality that or shes just crazy. She will talk to herself as in ask her self questions and hold a whole conversation with herself ok alot of people do that but the weird thing is when she does this she uses 2 different tones of voices when shes in one room and your in another it actually sounds like there are 2 peopl in there and you wouldnt know it unless you looked and only saw her.
my little cuz has had a split personalities since he was 7 hes 13 now and it very hard for him to control hiis well actions onn mmmin hes my cuz the next he's a differ person i ve known him all my life and you can tell when he not himself
I think in a lot of cases the split happens when the person with said "disease" undergoes something their conscience mind can not handle. In a self preservation tactic it splits. A personality is born from that event. One that tells the story through actions of why said personality is the way they are.
If someone says they have this disorder, My gut instinct would be to ask where the personality origninated from.
People that have been through horrid things in their life have to find a way to preserve themselves. This means not just physically, but mentally as well.
The mind is a playground, But in the same sense, it is a battle ground. The mind is where all information comes through. A "brain box" so to speak of the computer.
We all deal with things on a different level. We all see things differently. Perspective is a huge thing, and We need to make sure We don't use Our perspective as judgement upon another.
Unless one has proven time and again they can not be trusted, give them that small minute amount of trust.
There have been so many posts latly about mental disorders. MPD or SPD is a real thing and there is even borderline personalitiy disorder. Bi polar is a major thing and for anyone that has ever had to suffer the ups and downs of that condition it is not a fun ride.
I believe split personalities to be a valid medical disorder.
I believe in split personalities, My oldest has a mean split personalitie, I hate it.
i work in a unit that deals with mental disorders schizophrenia is one of the disorders that i have to deal with it is not always split personalities there is audio hallusenations and visual when they have a psychotic episode it is almost impossible to talk them down so to speak and if what i am living is an illusion then i am glad because most of their thoughts are terrifying
For those of you who cannot believe there are people who think this condition is made up or doesnot extist- Humans use to believe that demons caused mental problems. Thus, noone was labeled mentally ill. They were beset with demons. Mental health or psychology is the last disclipine to come out of philosophy. It is an infant compared to other practices in the medical field.
i happen to agree that it is all a perceptive on weither or not it is a disease or ones that dont ahve it are the ones with the disease. I happen to have had the advantage of dealing with people thoughout my life with both disorders. i have also had people fake the disorder just to gain attention. I believe that there are few that fake things there are many out there that truely have this and it shouldnt be taken lightly.
Well, the disease exists.
Seeing as the majority of people do not have schizophrenia then I believe that they are crazy, not living in an alternate reality.
Though I'm going to start doing research on this since it is a very interesting topic.
I believe its a true disease and some people really may have it. I also believe that there are others out there who fake it, so it makes it harder to define the real sick from the fakes
There's much talk about the people that fake it. In MY veiw ones that fake it are everybit as sick as the ones that have it.
I'm not judging, but where does your mind frame have to be to fake something of this magnitude.
If you sit down with someone that's been actually diagnosed and speak to several of their personalities, and then talk to someone that fakes it..You'll know.
My understanding is that personalities split because of..usually..a tramatic event. That being said, why would anyone want to play the role of someone else that's been through so much turmoil. Seems to Me they'd want to help the other person, not become the other person.
That leads to yet another question, Why would the faker, want to be the other person? What is the faker trying to hide?
Far too many people act as if they have MPD, or multiple Personality Disorder. They do it for the attention. THis is not a disorder that is pleasant, nor fun. Imagine waking up in a totally strange place, when the last thing you remember was watching t.v. in the livingroom. Or having people p*ssed at you for doing or saying something that you simply do not remember.
THis is NOT fun, nor is it funny! It is the result of a traumatic incident that the conscious mind simply cannot handle. It shuts down, and as a protective measure, another personality is created that can handle the traumatic experience UNTIL such time as the original personality can handle the stress of the event.
THis means, in simple terms, that your past comes back to haunt you. Brief flashes of memories of the horrific event are seen, and there is panic attacks. Nightmares, and headaches are not uncommon, along with the feeling that you are :loosing your mind".
As the memories become more and more available to the patient, they relive the event, AS IF IT IS JUST HAPPENING. Imagine, a rape, or murder that you had suppressed the memories of because it was just too gruesome to deal with, suddenly fresh in your mind, all the emotions fresh, and new. Imagine the pain that one must suffer through to get through life on a daily basis.
I know, it happened to me.
that is a really different way to think about things..ahh im gonna think about that one for a while lol
I have had the priviledge of meeting the woman who wrote the book, The Three Faces of Eve. She was Eve. Growing up she formed split personalities. She is a very interesting woman to talk to.
I always wanted to read "The three faces of Eve". But I forget the title when I go searching for a book.. What was Eve like...Did therapy or medications help her... How was she interesting?
Schizophrenia always comes off as an act. It's hard to believe that a single person is experiencing the function of multiple people. Because the entire world doesn't suffer from it, not everyone will understand.
And the idea that they live in the real world, and we live in a "dream" world of sorts. Sounds a little too Matrix like too me.
I believe some people may have it truely and some may be faking it
great post , i think alot of the people out here that are diagnosed with these are sane, i feel some do really know of or been there or ect and people just make them think there crazy or go mental,
Split personalities or more correctly Multiple Personality Disorder and Schizophrenia are TWO DIFFERENT disorders.
MPD - tends to occur becuase of a traumatic event, typically severe abuse, in whic the mind attempt to handle the situation by fragmenting into other persons. They tend not to know about each other at first. But through therapy and integration work, they become aware of the various personalities. This is NOT a chemical imbalance.
Schizophrenia IS a chemical imbalance in the brain. Hallucinations of various types, paranoid behavior and delusions are typical. There are different types of schizophrenia as well. Such catatonic and paranoid, to name two.
Huge differences in the two disorders.
well i know i find myself talking in sleep.. half awake i hear myself talk and think it is my split personality.. because i cuss fight so much it wakes me and many times girlfriend tells me i did not sound like myself sounded like total strangers voice...
As my psychology professor put it... What is a split personality? How do you define when someone has a split personality and when one doesn't? Like I and I know many people who could be defined as having a split personality. It's all by the general decorum of scientists and doctors, but anybody knows scientists and doctors have gotten many things wrong.
*This is not to bash on scientists and doctors.
