Here is a question I have often pondered.
When someone feeds on blood, how much blood do you think needs to be taken, and how often, to actually put that person into the realm of being a (blood) vampire?
I have asked this of a lot of vampires, and the needs seem to range from a pinprick every so often to a cupful every few days. I would love to hear your thoughts:)
I'm never sure how much I'll need. Usually a few fluid ounces is enough for me. But when i havent feed in a while..... i need more.
it really just depends on the vampire and their needs really. ive never heard of more then a pint in one go. but thats a lot once you really see it.
I would actually think it would be much more than a pin prick.
i would have to agree totally with darknessinabottle. i think it varies from each vampires state of mind and physical state when deciding how much will be needed from their bite.
one drop... the second you indulge on another you cease in your humanity, and are vampyre forever more. No amount of communion, no amount of confession, alas no cry for redemption will ever be heard. You will forever be one ...
I should elaborate my previous. To enter the fold you need take but a single drop, and from there any further is considered sustainance.
Getting blood , You have to be really carefull these days where u get it. When I need it it only has to be a shotglass full or when i dont feed for awhile I get crampy and stiff like, I feed once a month or every few weeks depending . Mostly around the full moon and when i dont feed enough I get really bad headaches giving blood to become a vampire no there is a ritual to become a vampire
I am not a vampire so I can't say from personal experience but most would find "a cupful" to make them sick since the body was not made to take blood into itself that way.
Well, if you drink it for pleasure, then any amount.
I usually take about half a cup.
I'd take more, but I'm not in the mood to hurt my donors.
As someone mentioned, some people lick their wounds.
If you do that to make it stop bleeding or whatever, then you're not a vampire.
If in fact the licking of the blood, whether it be a drop to a cup, kissing a wound, cutting onesself (chuckles), or having donors makes one a vampire, then I would suppose all mothers who look after their children and kiss and clean their owies are deemed vampires.
The act of blood draw is a serious act, if you need to partake in such an act, take extreme caution. No, the act of blood draw does not make you a vampire, nor does it create a vampire.
Yes, it depends on the sustaining said individual needs at the time of the draw. Some are satisfied at a gradual lick of a wound, I find this to be mere horseplay.
Most I know personally take it upon themselves to have about a cup a week. Bare in mind that these cups come from experianced donors. As a full amount a day would likely burden an individual with illness's from lack of blood.
If you think you need a draw, at least bare in mind the consequences for your actions and have experiance when dealing with the draw.
I think it would depend on the individuals needs at that time. So it may/could vary even in different circumstances.
My needs vary for a few different reasons. How long ago did I feed, what have I been doing, what do I plan to be doing, how I will be getting the blood ( yeah it can be a huge difference for me) and the one that has always kinda surprised me... who I am getting it from.
I have never needed more than a few ounces but at times I want more.
It's not the amount of blood you ingest, it's the need, the want behind the taking of it.
I have to agree with the depends on who you are although I think there is a lore to the older the vampire the less they have to drink. Dont know if there is anything in that or not.
Mmmm interesting question. I think it depends all on the person who is in need of the blood ... Me personally I just need a little bit and Im happy.
in my opinion i think it would be everytime i craved it or was hungry, unless i was a total feen, so in that case id think from a pin prick and or then some, hope this helped
I don’t think that there is one specific amount. It would be impossible to quantify the amount. I know of people who live the vampire lifestyle a hundred percent of the time. People that are more vampire than most yet they rarely if ever drink blood. I also know people that drink quite often but don’t even live the vampire lifestyle. I think that since being a vampire only requires the desire to be vampire there is not really an answer to the question. You could be a vampire on vampire rave six hours a day and never drink real blood. From what I know of vampires in our day this would probably make you a vampire.
I have tasted, and worn blood but I think to take in a cup or more would actually make you sick,I really don't think the normal human body could withstand that without vomiting all over the place, now if you ask me,a lil slice here and there at certain intervals is extremely sexual and orgasmic.
I'm going with Soulshroude on this. No amount of blood drinking can make you a vampire. If anything it will make you sick.
Soulshroude and Wolfsbohne make a great point. Any consumption of blood can make you sick. Especially a large quantity of blood. Blood is in no way a substantial food source.
As I eluded to earlier, it is not the drinking of blood that makes one a vampyre. It is a desire for blood in any amount coupled with a traumatic experience which should have ended your life.
Be it a bite and draining from another vampyre, or in my instance a fatal motorcycle accident, officially a corpse for 6 min 43 sec then a lot of juice, I would assume in this style I am unique. I do not have a set donor when I desire I hunt lesser animals, or... I do not make new vampyres.
For those who have not had blood and obsess on trying it, go to a Polish restaurant order a bowl of churniya (duck blood soup) it served at roughly body temperature, if you do not immediately vomit, and find you like the taste hunt something small like a rabbit or cat if you catch and kill (no guns, knives, or traps) bite it drain it; feel it squire as you drain and kill it.
If you can stomach what you have move up to a larger animal which can defend itself like your neighbor's pet fido, becareful they hold their life dear and will bite and scratch to keep it.
Unfortunately, this will not make you a vampyre, just a person with a thirst for blood. Remember traumatic life terminating experience...
Good luck!
PS there are many days that I wish they would have left me for dead...
Just because someone drinks blood, it doesn't make them a vampire.
as far as vampires goes today, it is a much different style then history goes, as stated above about not needing blood to be a vampire which i agree if just a pin drop satisfies how is that, isnt blood a feed ?
not set amount sometimes a few drops and others a bit more, i have friends that never need more than a few drops and others who always wait and then drink a shot glass full.
If you enjoy the taste of blood and you crave it welcome you are a Blood vamp!
thats how I see it but it completely varies on the amount of blood that doesn't make the blood vamp what makes the blood vamp is the need or crave for it! thats what makes the blood vamp!atleaste thats How I see it!
i dont believe its the amount of blood consumed that makes one a vampire but the need for blood period. be it a small amount or a large amount. some identifying vamps dont even feed on blood at all but they do feed on energy.
I think it really depends on the vampire. Some of us that feed on blood also feed on energy. So when we feed on blood we also take the energy we need.
I simply feel that what ever amount you need to fulfill your needs be it a cupful or a thimble full, the very fact that you require it is what it takes to fulfill the belief that you are indeed a vampire.
true i had forgotton about the energy as well... but if it is the blood how can it be so little of a amount that to me would sound like a tease
I am pretty sure that were you to meet a Vampire of myth and legend. It would require more from you than a mear thimble full. One would be lead to understand that those who practice a Vampiric Lifestyle maybe able to regulate thier intake. But as for the true creatures of the night. Blood is the main ingredient of thier diet. Can you just eat one pizza roll? >;]
so when you all drink its just the craveing you feel ?
there is no measurement to calculate whether or not you are a vampire, you either are or you are not...
There is no set amount that determines your vampiric nature. It's not 'If I drink 1 pint of blood than I am a vampire but if I only drink 1/2 a pint, i'm not'.
Not all vampires drink blood and not all who drink blood are vampires.
I think it truly depends on the person on the amount, yet the vampire and blodd is more hollywoods elebration on tales of old. yet to me i think a person would get very seriously in trouble the way the virusus have attacked mother earth. Do with caution.
ok i no people drink blood.. why ? do you no if the donor has aids or some kind of blood disorder.. and what does blood taste like if you drink a cup of it..? dont your stomach hurt afterwords because really your body wasnt sapose to drink blood like that ?
i think it depends on the person and how much they might need is the amount that they will take from the donor.
In the strictest definition a vampire is one who drinks blood (no amount is specified). Needs of anyone vary from person to person whether vampire or not. It would be impossible to say that there is a set amount that is needed. If people when they say a cup mean 8 fluid ounces it is not likely that many could actually drink that much at one time. Assuming that someone claiming to drink that much everyday actually did they would need at least 15 donors to accomplish that to prevent depleting the donors. Even at a cup a week you would need at least 3 donors. 1-3 oz per week would be more typical and more believable as only 1 donor could provide that amount. If every vampire had 15 donors vampirism wouldn't be much of secret would it? It's hard enough to find 1 donor muchless 3 or more at once.
I believe it's more of an energy exchange than a blood exchange. I think it really depends on the mindset of the person who's being sired...However much they think will make them a vampire, will make them a vampire.
I am not a "Vampire, but" I do believe that if you ingest any blood of another what so ever, that would do the trick! Figuratively!
I consider myself a vampire, although i really only drink on occasion. i never have a donor that stays with me for very long; they claim my bite is too painful to withstand for too long. ut when i do bite, i never take very much; two to thre mouthfuls is fine for me.
I do believe it all depends on the origin of the blood... everyone is different with different traits... some more satisfying then others perhaps? [much like a favorite food]
i dont know all i do know is if you loose to much blood you die...also you can only drink so much blood before you throw up
i only drink blood when its falling down the back of my throat from having a blood nose or when i am bleeding
I think it would depend on the vampire. Since each is different and has different needs for amount of blood.
Well,a boren blood vamp..would need
a cup of blood a night.A truned blood vamp..would need a cup a week.A hybred blood and psy vamp would need a spoon full a week.
i happen to be a cross between a blood and a psy, and i take in about two cups a week; when i have willing donors. if not, then it is more on my next feeding.
I think that it depends on who is giving you the blood, also who the blood is coming from...
I would actually think it would be much more than a pin prick.
madbeau- you're right, I could have the measurements wrong but if a human body ingests more than a cup of blood they'll throw it up. There might be ways to train your body to keep it down, but maybe not.
Just like normal human eating varies, Im sure there blood consumption varies too.
I can't believe how much interest this thread has attracted! So cool:D Some really great opinions, some of which have really surprised me. I hope more people respond as I am finding this really fascinating:) Thank you:)
drinking blood is like drinking alcohol; it depends on the body's tolerance as far as how much one can withstand before becoming ill.......
and the hangover in the morning. The thing I've wondered is if you drank too much blood could you die... Like alcohol poisoning. Another and separate topic all together what if the person you drank from had AIDS, or was HIV positive or something like that... I was posed this question a while ago and had no answer.
As for the AIDS question, since it is transmitted through blood; wouldn't ingesting it contaminate you? I always make sure my donors are checked and clean before i use them. I also make sure they don't do drugs because some of those are also communicable through blood.
I would think its by age, the older you are the less you need. As a young vampire you need the kill as an older one and i'm talking older then my great great great grandmother you only need about a cup anything older then that a pinprick but I base mine off books so i could be wrong.
Wolvie - In the strictest definition a vampire is one who drinks blood ... with great respect that depends what definition that you are using. If that definition is strictly applied that leaches and mosquitos would be termed vampires.
Generally a vampire (not the bat) is thought of a 'being' who feeds off humans - they can feed on blood or energy.
I noted that Irony very carefully asked how much blood need be 'taken' before the taker becomes a vampire.
I don't think that it can be a volume of blood that creates vampires, otherwise everyone who has had a blood transfusion would become one.
In my humble opinion, the vampire is created first by some means - the blood-feeding or whatever comes later
I don't think there is a set amount.
Like Artemka just said, and I'll paraphrase, the vampire is made 1st then the feedings happen.
I was about to quickly state that any being that consumes blood falls into the category of 'vampire'. I would have been hasty in saying so, since there is more to it than just consuming blood. Cannibals may consume blood, tribes in Africa consume blood, cobra blood is a delicacy in Asia... I'm certain the majority would cringe at being compared to vampires.
All that nonsense being said, and this is complete conjecture, I feel that bloodlust in conjunction with the consumption of blood and insistence upon this consumption define a vampire. I'd like to call it a level of infection but that would be worse than my silly opinion can afford.
I don't think that is a silly opinion and you raise some very interesting points. Raises more questions for certain:)
to me it would vary on that persions thirst and how they control it there is no said amount that makes a persion a vampier you eather are or are not one of us
Well, out of my personal opinnion, that would be adliest, one litre per day.
But I believe as well, one should cut down on food, more and more, and go up with the consumption of blood, and eventualy stop the consumption of food, in order to achive some significant change.
This is almost like the age old question
what would you do for a klondike bar.
since you really can not dna test to see if your a vampire there is no true way to define how much blood.
However vampire is not subject to being purely sanguine
majority of the sanguine out there in todays society are poser's anyways who simply want to be heard as something special.
So at least in my opinion it really doesnt matter how much blood makes you one.
its the quality of the individuals vampiric side that matters.
NNot all vampires reQuire blood and even with those who do, they can usually find it from other sources so as not to need it. The fact is that to take Blood from someone may not be safe very much because of disease or what ever.
I don't think there is a goal to reach. I just think that it may have something do to with the fact that you crave it...being it is not something normal.
Its more the way you feel before and after that makes you a vampire.
It doesn't matter how much blood you take. You are a vampire despite the amount or you are not. A drop for a vampire or a gallon for the non, it is a matter of what you are, not the quantity that you consume. It is like asking "how many Harley's do you have to own to be a biker?" Owning one doesn't make you the thing, living it makes you what you are.
Many vampires throughout history were known for thier instinctive drive to kill their prey; hopefully today's vampires have become a bit more civilized, or we will surely run out of "cattle" to feed upon....
For those that are into blood drinking, I think this may differ from person to person... hopefully with the best health interests of the donor in mind.
Yes, of course the donor's best interest has to be considered. If one abuses their donors, one will eventually find themselves without the ability to feed..... With my "victims" (which are mostly male though I do have one or two female donors), I set a code for them to say when i'm nearing their limit. It works for me, and keeps them happy and alive for the next feeding.
That may be so, but it is still part of the main topic; without someone or something to feed from, there is no vampire... All it would be is a pointy-toothed (or not in some cases) creature of night that slinks from shadow to shadow hiding from the sun's harmful rays for all of eternity.
It isn't the amount as much as it is the desire to have it that makes you a vampire :)
How long is a piece of string?
It's the same question really, you can ask 1000 people and get 1000 different answers.
Vampyrism is a lifestyle not a blood borne disease.
There is no set limit, I think if you live the lifestyle and "drink" when you want to that is enough.
I don't think there is any 'set' amount on what it takes to 'turn' you into a vampire.
not much. it depends on what you believe is true and not.
there's not really a set amout, as long as you have fed, and still do.
Drinking blood doesn't make a person a vampire. Being a Vampire has a lot more to it than blood drinking. But I won't drag myself along into explaining it all, as I know all to well there are too many closeminded individuals around. So anyways instead, I'll just answer with this. For me the amount of blood depends on the interval I have gone between feedings. For me being a Psi/Sang, when I'm not able to find blood donors I can suppliment by Psi feeding.
im not too sure how much it would take,im not a vampire,so i would thing as much as the person wants would be enough.
There is never a set time nor amount for me. The hunger and amount varies for all I'm sure. Lets just say I feed when and if the urge arises and "Until my appetite is sated and I have slaked my thirst"
It depends on how much you need ..and the donor you have.
i would have to say more then a drop of blood will make you a vampire but it depends on the person and there reaction
i would think a shot amount would be good enough ...to sustain for awhile
It might depend on the power of the Vampire or the age and or weight of the specific person like the directions for medicine says. Make sense?
With all respect in mind, actually medically speaking more than a few table spoons at a time can have some adverse effects and in some cases lead to death, you have to be careful sang or not.
I guess it would depend on how much blood you can handle drinking, even if its just a pinprick. Just the fact you consume blood at all should be enough to be called a blood vampire.
blood doesnt make some one a true vampire anyone can drink blood lol.
blood doesnt make some one a true vampire anyone can drink blood lol.
This question goes in line with the 'how long is a piece of string' it would depend on the person I would guess
to be a blood vamp its not the amount it the need of it to servive
I believe it all depends on the vampire and what there needs may be.
I dont think it has something to do with the amount of blood you drink... i think that the only fact that you may drink blood and you enjoy it, that makes you consider yourself as a vampire.
In my case i can deal with some ounces... but i've never needed a cupful... that wouldnt be possible to tolerate... considering that we are talking about us who are called modern vampires...
It is not how much blood you drink that makes you a blood vampire everyone has their thoughts on how much they want to drink but you can take the amount you want but dont kill and let them live some wants to kill their prey why kill when you can use them again later ust keep tract on the ones you like to feed from.
i would have to agree..it would seem that some would have a larger hunger than others and therefore it would require more for them.
