From some old wives tales i had heard passed around, i heard that a full moon bring out the (weirdo's) and or all the strange things start to happen now scientific fact, states that the moon has a effect on tides, and part of the earths gravitational pull, so i guess my question is has anyone else heard this theory, or anything close to that?
Has anyone heard any wives tales similar to this or any stories related to this?
Been talked about recently.
But yes the moon effects checmicals in the brain...the word LUNATIC comes from the moons lunar cycle.
I don't know but every full moon I feel alive and wakened for some reason.
I don't feel any different than I do with a not so full moon lol
Well when i was working at a grocery store every time there was a full moon all the wack jobs seem to be in there shopping, people stealing stuff, asking weired questions things like that.
I have heard it. Was always warned when I was younger and still am to be really careful on full moon nights because of the weirdos it brings out, heh.
The moon has some effects on animals, like wolves often cry at the full moon. On humans, I'm not sure about, it could be used as beacon of light a long time ago (maybe that's why) not sure?

During the full moon I usually won't sleep until about five or six in the morning. I suppose the old wiccan habits. Even when I don't have spell to work I still keep awake. LOL.
I've heard this, but I don't believe it's anything more than a myth. I would say that people just pay more attention to the weird people on the night of the full moon than they do at any other time of the month, because they're expecting weird people on that night.
oh yes, i knew that. every full moon my kids act like crazy people so i know there is some truth to it.
full moon has a wonderful effect. there are lots of spells that can be carried out on full moon...
personally i feel more sharp and active...
i think that if the moon can effect tides and other earthly things, it would be able to effect the moods and actions of individuals.
Other than the scientific effects that the moon has on the tides etc I personally don't think it can have an affect on people...
howwwl-ever...I could be wrong!
Yes, I have heard this . Wierd things do happen when the moon is full. It effects the brain in some unexplained way. I have seen the effects that the full moon can have on elderly people. They actually get restless and want to wonder aimlessly. At time they can act out in radical behaviors..
the full moon does do special things. my eyes turn hazel during the full moon. i was born with hazel eyes, but then they turned brown because its the dominate gene. but then they turn my natural color at the full moon.
The full moon does have an effect on te brain levels and does make people react different
The moon effects a lot of things [obviously]. I heard the same thing about the moon effecting the tides and such. Its also a great time to cast protection spells. Animals [and that includes humans b/c we are animals] tend to act differently around the time of the full moon. For example: If you are a wolf during the time of the full moon its easier to spot prey and for prey to spot you so they become increasingly aggitated and of course they also howl at the moon. Other creatures like hares and such act differently b/c they need to be on full alert b/c its easier for the carnivors to see them. IF you believe in Lycanthropie youd know that the full moon makes it so they [werewolves, werejaguars, etc.] transform. To wolves the moon doesnt appear the same as it does to us. Its not just some silvery disk in the sky but appears to be something entirely different and something very beautiful so they howl b/c of its beauty. These are just my opinions though.
apparently the whole "more crime and mischief happens on full moons" is a bunch of balogne.....ive talked to a few cops about it, and actually its like a less active time due to the moon not letting you like lurk in the shadows as much...
idk about any of the other "myths" though.
Well,
Our bodys are mostly water there for any thing that would affect watch, IE like the tides would affect us.
The word lunatic(s) is derived from the word luna meaning moon. People are called lunatics because it was believe that the moon made you nuts..
The moon, as well as the sun, does indeed have an effect on humans' hormone levels, which help determine behavior. 3/4 of the human body is composed of water. The ebb and flow of water is effected by the moon.
Why the full moon? Evidence suggests that the reflection of the sun's light off of the moon intensifies the moon's gravitational effect.
MulkavianMime - I've worked in an Emergency Center for the past 7 years. I can attest to the increase of mental patients during the full moon.
The cops you spoke with may not see an increase in crime but there have been studies performed, one in particular was performed by a Florida University, which exhibited a fluctuation in violent activity.
well i've alwys known that the moon does have effects on the tides and etc...
i guess u could say i've known deep down inside..
if a full moon has effects on water well guess what were mostly water, you know.
my mother worked in a hospital's emergency room as a nurse for years
night of full moons were always busier
that and after 2 am when the bars closed
;]
My apologiesi f I repeat anything already said. I skipped the entire thread to make my comment because I'm in a hurry.
In my adventures as a Paramedic a full moon was always a "psych" night when all of the psychiatric patients (or soon to be) would come out of the woodwork.
We could always count on lots of trauma calls and unusual calls. After 10 plus years of that I tend to avoid social gatherings in public places during a full moon. I stay home.
that supports what my mother told me
although i didn't know about psychiatric patients
interesting information
Yes, I've heard of it before. Its basically what TheDarkWolf has posted.
i believe it dose have an effect , just as changes in the weather effect animals they know its coming before we do
i personly dont feel any affects from the moon but my boyfriend and girlfriend is affected by the new moon. they get depressed and he feels an elevated serge of rage like a darked virsion of himself comes out.
as my pet above said.. im not affected by the full moon but as the new moon rises i feel depressed and feel "as like the moon" a dark cloke drapes over me and a darker side of myself trys to come out.
Yes, I have heard things like this. The moon can affect people in strange ways.
I have heard that all my life and can see it also on others..Sometimes it bothers me , badly at times and other times, nothing really different..But to me a week before and a week after, ppl are strange..Yeah i include myself in that also
Personally, I think it has a lot to do with superstition, legends and the occult.
With me I tend to get completed wired and can't keep still. This week for instance has been manic for me...
Mon- had a migraine:((
Tues- couldn't sleep till 1am then was up at 5am (i had work at 8.00am)
Wed- Forgot to set my alarm and over slept a hr and a half!!
Thursday- Just complety hyper
Today- almost went to work still wearing my slippers (noticed on the way to the bus stop!!!)
Help, LOL
Yeah... my mother always blames my father's bipolar mood swings on the moon.
I've heard it since i was a small child that the moon affects people, friends of mine are always commenting how restless i am on the run up to a full moon and how invigorated (sp?) i am at full moon. The energy froma full moon is awesome.
Someone posted before that the moon effects the "Psychos" during a full moon...or something to that affect.Well they have chemical imbalances in the brain...so the full moon will affect them more.
I know if people hear it and use it as an excuse, but it sure does seem like people goes nuts on full moons
I've heard a bunch of different stories of "weird" stuff that happens on full moons, but nothing has ever happened to me lol
i have heard about this theory as well, not really had any crazy people though rolf
I think so many people have heard this that they do believe the weirdos come out and they over compensate and that makes things worse when hundreds of people do it.
I've heard a bunch of different stories of "weird" stuff that happens on full moons, and hear they get worse in a nuthouse when full arises..
My hubby works at a prison and has been saying for years he is gonna start demanding the full moon off .. citeing the wiccan thing lol. He just loaths going in on those nights. Says you can be 100% somehting bad is gonna happen.. fights usually.
The reason for the moon having an effect on the tides is the magnetic pull it has when it is that close to the earth. these effects are also felt by those with mental illnesses. I worked in a home for the disabled and every full moon they would go a bit crazy. So yes it does have an effect on people as well as the tides.
I'm afriad with or without the full moon loonatics run amok. There are so many people who classify as crazy that its hard to tell if it is becauseof the moon or just because people view the full moon as a night to throw caution away, drink heavily, and then carry on as if animals.
That is true as well but for the real patients in the psych ward, we nurses are warned about the moon and keep an eye on the calender because 3 days before and 3 days after a full moon you really do notice the effects the moon has on these people.
Oh yeah. The crime rate goes up on the full moon, and the mental wards in the hospitals get more out of hand than usual. Animals sometimes act different, and I know I do, to an extent. There's no doubt that the moon has effects on us.
I am not usre fo the exact pourcentage but I think the human body is compose of 70% of water and since the moon affects the water, it can affect 70% of our body, meaning having effect on our brain and the rest of our body, and our behavior
I've been told by some of my nurse friends that the hospitals all tend to fill up on the full moon; gunshot victims, rape vitims, you know victims of hate crimes.
Also, statistiacally where I live anyways, birthrates are higher during a full moon.
My mom's a nurse i'll have to ask her if her patients act nutty.
my husband acts lunny when there is a full moon now im starting to wonder if thats what makes him that way..
My mum's a teacher and she notices that around once a month (when I checked out when a month it was always around the full moon) her pupils got particually difficult to keep in control.
Weather also does seem to have an affect, high winds especially.
perhaps the extra light brings people out to interact with real night people and the real night people don't like poser "fair weather"night people so they try to weird them out.A sort of Social hysteria ...the best time to fake a haughting is during a full moon because chances are someone in the group would have heard ghost appear on full moons and all the urban ledgens take place on a moon .
How about people's driving habits around the time of the full moon? ( Not a wives tale, something I've noticed myself ). Police departments and Hospitals all know they are going to be extra busy.
The effects of the moon have always been noted.
the menstrual cycle...wowie. Scroll up if your confused.
Ummm, ok I do think the full moon triggers certain things in people. Why and what, I have no clue.
Not so sure about driving habits but it's possible... All I am sure about is that the moon affects the water in our bodies. It makes a lot of sense if you see it that way.
The myth has been around for countless years. It was actually said to be proven false in the 1970's but I don't know what research has been done since then. What I do know is this: my mom worked as a bartender for decades. She didn't need to look at a calendar or the sky to know when a full moon was coming: she could tell because of the changes in the clientel. When I started working woth the public, I found what she said to be true: people ~do~ act differently during a full moon! Some people simply seem to react to it more strongly than others.
i work in a place with mental patients and their behavior becomes worse with a full moon and a new moon it happens every time that is usually when i come home with bruises no lie
I am sure everyone has the heard the same thing about crazy people and werewolves along with the moon affecting the weather and nature,I believe that when the moon is at it's fullest I am my happiest,it is a beautiful thing to withhold and makes me wanna dance in circles which would border along the lines of strange behavior..See the moon
Lol, I also work in retail. You can definitely tell when it's a full Moon!! Some people are really affected by the gravitational pull of the Earth and Moon. This also is said to have something to do with mental illnesses. I don't know where I heard it from, but it might be accurate. There are most definitely some strange behavior when a full Moon happens!
Our bodies are made up with water. If the moon effects the tides "WATER" it has to effect ourselves as well. common sense don't you think?
People do seem to get a little bit crazier about that time of the month. That’s something most police and hospital workers have known for a long time.
I get all weird,my emotions are so on fire, every touch, sense and energy I can feel radiating from within,it is rather aggravating at times cause I can't control it
I was curious about this question,so I did some searching. At first I agreed that the moon would have effects on people. Then after reading this article I had to change my mind. Now I believe that when people act a little nuttier during a full moon it's because they think they should act that way because of a full moon.....(tongue twister I know)...
Check out the article here
so half moons and quartermoons means 50 percent weirdos?
intriguing isn't it , the thought of what another outside force can co to a object? The thought that if the moon can change waves and mess with people that it can manipulate things as it sees fit, that it is considered just a dead planet?
Besides affecting the tides, and where the word lunacy came from (as was previously stated), many people have felt different as the moon waxes to full. I know I have more energy and harder to sleep at night.
Being that I was a cop for 5 years, it was reported and found to be true that more crimes happened during full moons as well as the heat of the summer and holidays.
yeap i guess of what my wife says i am different on a full moon i dont no why eithor and i dont no its a full moon tell some one says hey there is a full moon .. but personally i dont need a full moon to be a jerk...lol
Well I have heard that some people can't sleep well or get a blood lust on a full moon, but that is all I have heard never that.
No, actually, I've never heard of any wives tails about it. It just seems that a lot of so called 'weird' -rolls eyes- people like to be out at either a New or Full moon.
I 've heard all about it -- and there's no doubt that when it's full strange things happen -- It could be just mind over matter ..... People act on things they believe in .
It's a proven fact that more babies are born around full moons than any other time of the month.
I gots to say...anyone who works in customer service for a long enough time will notice that people get crazier around that time.
I'm hungry.
Every job i have had people act wacky when theres a full moon.
i worked in retail for years, ppl seriously get crazy around the full moon.
It's not just the full moon that will effect you. It's everyday.
The moon goes through astrological cycles every day. For instance, the moon was in Libra today and at 3:30am central time, tonight, it will go into SCORPIO. That means that the characteristics of Scorpio will influence us ALL while the moon is in this cycle, which is generally about 2 1/2 days. Then it will go into the next sign in the zodiac wheel, which is Sagittarius.
This is how farmers can tell when to plant, etc., like when the moon is in an earth sign, such as Virgo. You also cut your hair or trim it when the moon is in Virgo, to make it grow faster and better.
The moon being in Scorpio for the next few days will bring things like, feeling more passionate about things and that could cause heated arguments. It makes people more horny. It can make you very sensitive and moody. It can make you cry more easily and harder. It can make you more intuitive and secretive. It can make you more manipulative. And it can make you more of a tightwad.
Of course the Scorpio moon would affect you more if you are Scorpio or if you have it in you in your chart.
When it changes to Sagittarius in about 2 days, it will lighten the mood up and you will be more enthusiastic and want to travel. It may make you more outspoken, so be careful how you use words. Then it goes to Capricorn. Etc....
I have heard that before, the moon has a strange effect on animals, the oceans, people ect ect. I have heard of it, but i dont kno much about it besides the fact it has an effect
well if you think about it scientifically the moon afects the tides our blood is made water therefore the gravitational pull could very well rasie the level of fluid in our brains and people with to much fluid in thier head could very well go crazy
There has been a lot of superstitions, legends etc about the moon when it is full and the effects it has on people. The web is full with some beautiful stories of this and it is well worth while hitting up a search on the subject :)
I'm sorry to have to admit this but the full moon just makes me downright horny!!!
i know that the moon has a gravitational pull on earth and the magnitism between the earth and moon tends to heighten at the full phase. Perhaps because all living things are made of energy this would have an effect on behavior on all living and effects on the non living such as the ocean and radiation minerals and such
i have to agree with immortalmistress hahaha..me too..and it has nothing to do with horomones
yes ihave heard of this old wives tale.it happens to be true in my oppinion.
It is true. I have seen the way the moon affects the elderly...
