From some old wives tales i had heard passed around, i heard that a full moon bring out the (weirdo's) and or all the strange things start to happen now scientific fact, states that the moon has a effect on tides, and part of the earths gravitational pull, so i guess my question is has anyone else heard this theory, or anything close to that?

Has anyone heard any wives tales similar to this or any stories related to this?

I was listening to a show talking about a study done in Canada that showed women who live together synchronize their menstrual cycle. If that is true and you are sensitive to the regular ebb and flow of what is going around you, it is not such a big stretch to think you synchronize yourself to tides and the moon, or etc., or any other recurring event.

The moon has some effects on animals, like wolves often cry at the full moon. On humans, I'm not sure about, it could be used as beacon of light a long time ago (maybe that's why) not sure?

I've heard this, but I don't believe it's anything more than a myth. I would say that people just pay more attention to the weird people on the night of the full moon than they do at any other time of the month, because they're expecting weird people on that night.

Yes, I have heard this . Wierd things do happen when the moon is full. It effects the brain in some unexplained way. I have seen the effects that the full moon can have on elderly people. They actually get restless and want to wonder aimlessly. At time they can act out in radical behaviors..

The moon effects a lot of things [obviously]. I heard the same thing about the moon effecting the tides and such. Its also a great time to cast protection spells. Animals [and that includes humans b/c we are animals] tend to act differently around the time of the full moon. For example: If you are a wolf during the time of the full moon its easier to spot prey and for prey to spot you so they become increasingly aggitated and of course they also howl at the moon. Other creatures like hares and such act differently b/c they need to be on full alert b/c its easier for the carnivors to see them. IF you believe in Lycanthropie youd know that the full moon makes it so they [werewolves, werejaguars, etc.] transform. To wolves the moon doesnt appear the same as it does to us. Its not just some silvery disk in the sky but appears to be something entirely different and something very beautiful so they howl b/c of its beauty. These are just my opinions though.

apparently the whole "more crime and mischief happens on full moons" is a bunch of balogne.....ive talked to a few cops about it, and actually its like a less active time due to the moon not letting you like lurk in the shadows as much...

idk about any of the other "myths" though.

Well,

Our bodys are mostly water there for any thing that would affect watch, IE like the tides would affect us.

The word lunatic(s) is derived from the word luna meaning moon. People are called lunatics because it was believe that the moon made you nuts..

The moon, as well as the sun, does indeed have an effect on humans' hormone levels, which help determine behavior. 3/4 of the human body is composed of water. The ebb and flow of water is effected by the moon.

Why the full moon? Evidence suggests that the reflection of the sun's light off of the moon intensifies the moon's gravitational effect.

MulkavianMime - I've worked in an Emergency Center for the past 7 years. I can attest to the increase of mental patients during the full moon.

The cops you spoke with may not see an increase in crime but there have been studies performed, one in particular was performed by a Florida University, which exhibited a fluctuation in violent activity.

My apologiesi f I repeat anything already said. I skipped the entire thread to make my comment because I'm in a hurry.

In my adventures as a Paramedic a full moon was always a "psych" night when all of the psychiatric patients (or soon to be) would come out of the woodwork.

We could always count on lots of trauma calls and unusual calls. After 10 plus years of that I tend to avoid social gatherings in public places during a full moon. I stay home.

The reason for the moon having an effect on the tides is the magnetic pull it has when it is that close to the earth. these effects are also felt by those with mental illnesses. I worked in a home for the disabled and every full moon they would go a bit crazy. So yes it does have an effect on people as well as the tides.

I'm afriad with or without the full moon loonatics run amok. There are so many people who classify as crazy that its hard to tell if it is becauseof the moon or just because people view the full moon as a night to throw caution away, drink heavily, and then carry on as if animals.

Not so sure about driving habits but it's possible... All I am sure about is that the moon affects the water in our bodies. It makes a lot of sense if you see it that way.

The myth has been around for countless years. It was actually said to be proven false in the 1970's but I don't know what research has been done since then. What I do know is this: my mom worked as a bartender for decades. She didn't need to look at a calendar or the sky to know when a full moon was coming: she could tell because of the changes in the clientel. When I started working woth the public, I found what she said to be true: people ~do~ act differently during a full moon! Some people simply seem to react to it more strongly than others.

I am sure everyone has the heard the same thing about crazy people and werewolves along with the moon affecting the weather and nature,I believe that when the moon is at it's fullest I am my happiest,it is a beautiful thing to withhold and makes me wanna dance in circles which would border along the lines of strange behavior..See the moon

Lol, I also work in retail. You can definitely tell when it's a full Moon!! Some people are really affected by the gravitational pull of the Earth and Moon. This also is said to have something to do with mental illnesses. I don't know where I heard it from, but it might be accurate. There are most definitely some strange behavior when a full Moon happens!

I was curious about this question,so I did some searching. At first I agreed that the moon would have effects on people. Then after reading this article I had to change my mind. Now I believe that when people act a little nuttier during a full moon it's because they think they should act that way because of a full moon.....(tongue twister I know)...

Check out the article here

intriguing isn't it , the thought of what another outside force can co to a object? The thought that if the moon can change waves and mess with people that it can manipulate things as it sees fit, that it is considered just a dead planet?

Besides affecting the tides, and where the word lunacy came from (as was previously stated), many people have felt different as the moon waxes to full. I know I have more energy and harder to sleep at night.

Being that I was a cop for 5 years, it was reported and found to be true that more crimes happened during full moons as well as the heat of the summer and holidays.

It's not just the full moon that will effect you. It's everyday.

The moon goes through astrological cycles every day. For instance, the moon was in Libra today and at 3:30am central time, tonight, it will go into SCORPIO. That means that the characteristics of Scorpio will influence us ALL while the moon is in this cycle, which is generally about 2 1/2 days. Then it will go into the next sign in the zodiac wheel, which is Sagittarius.

This is how farmers can tell when to plant, etc., like when the moon is in an earth sign, such as Virgo. You also cut your hair or trim it when the moon is in Virgo, to make it grow faster and better.

The moon being in Scorpio for the next few days will bring things like, feeling more passionate about things and that could cause heated arguments. It makes people more horny. It can make you very sensitive and moody. It can make you cry more easily and harder. It can make you more intuitive and secretive. It can make you more manipulative. And it can make you more of a tightwad.

Of course the Scorpio moon would affect you more if you are Scorpio or if you have it in you in your chart.

When it changes to Sagittarius in about 2 days, it will lighten the mood up and you will be more enthusiastic and want to travel. It may make you more outspoken, so be careful how you use words. Then it goes to Capricorn. Etc....

i know that the moon has a gravitational pull on earth and the magnitism between the earth and moon tends to heighten at the full phase. Perhaps because all living things are made of energy this would have an effect on behavior on all living and effects on the non living such as the ocean and radiation minerals and such
