Now I'm not saying I believe in reincarnation but I find myself remembering events from long ago as if they happened to me.

Now my theory is, since most beings (vampires, weres, dragons, gryphs, etc.) have long lives or are downright immortal, I think maybe these "dreams" I have are memories of events in my "life" that I have forgotten due simply to so much time passing and newer, fresher memories replacing the old ones.

On that note, any thoughts or opposing theories?

Most of us call these memories of past lives. Our mortal bodies can't live forever, but there is no limit to how long our souls can survive.

I believe what you are having is dreams of past life events. I think more people have these dreams than we actually know of.

i myself being a firm believer in reincarnation... do indeed believe that these are memories of a past life or lives... i believe that the soul retains all the information from past lives and that we can only see them in our subconscious.....

I also believe in reincarnation. Sometimes past memories come back in way of dreams or flashbacks. Perhaps at times when you are near others from a past life or a similar situation or location.

I too have these "memories" and I ask myself the same question. But I see it as a memory that was forgotten, the bodies we have are different but our souls are the same we just drift for body to body over time.

it sounds like what some people have and then later they go to a seer of sorts and they tell them about the past life. Now you just have to find a real seer.

I think it's a past life... There's really no explanation for it. It was something I know I didn't just imagine when I was a kid... I learned about some of these things when I got older and researched what I saw in my dream...

I think it depends on you, and what you believe. (Isn't that how it is with all things?) ^_^

renegadeangel - It may be that we are or aren't supposed to see past lives but the mind is such a mystery. Perhaps something is similar between a situation or feeling in the present and one in the past.

I don't know if I believe in reincarnation or not. Some things make sense when thought out in a forum post but then I have a hard time with anything based on faith.

I haven't formed an oppinion on the whole reincarnation thing either, but I have memories of things that were seriously long ago in the past and couldn't have happened to me.

I don't know if it is me or one of my little friends that passes by and drops off the memories. They feel real; they feel like my own, but who is to say what they are.

I see several worlds clearly and it is quite confusing if you are too scientific about the why of it all. If I had to explain it, I'd be locked up in a nut house.

As is, they make wonderful storytellers and I write lively stories from all of the stuff I get from them and my own mind too.

I daydream in sharp realistic color that is more real than the physical world. Then, there are my little muse's that walk in between reality and dreams. It makes for a wonderful life that I wouldn't change for anything in the universe...Lol. I guess I am a rare lucky person...Or maybe I am as looney as you think I am, but ask yourself this...Which of us is better off? Are you happy? Lmao.

I have read much on recarnation.

they have studied children that can take you back to their former home in their last life.
They can give you names in which the reseracher looks up and sees if what they have given is truth. 100% it is.

Immortal is a term that hollywood classifies its monsters, yet our mortal body will eventually pass. i do believe that are soul does live on and may be reincarnated into another body.

Although I believe our souls are "immortal" since we are reborn as many times as we choose to return - I do not believe there are any true immoratals out there. I wish that there were for it would be a lovely thing.

So to answer your question my friends, dreams of another when could definately be memories of a past life.

I myself remembered things when I was a child that I thought were nonsense (who had heard of a volcano called Krakatoa?)and turned out to be past life memories.

Dreams are a very tricky place, most dreams warn you of things, others are you living past lives.

Well, I must say first that the beings you mentioned are all creatures are myth. People can have their characteristics embedded in their spirit based on their personality, but the creatures themselves do not exist.

Moving on...

I've come to believe that dreams are windows into our past lives. The best way to determine which dreams are memories is to keep a journal by your bed, and if you wake up from a dream that you just had be sure to write it down a.s.a.p. Do this for several days, then say after a week go back and reread the entries. If any of them seem to have recurring themes or piece themselves together well, you probably took a journey back to a past life. If not, your subconscious was just bringing some other wish/hopes/desires into light so that you can decide how to achieve those things.

It's entirely possible. All my dreams seem like memories. they are familiar and seem to be a section of time rather then those off the wall 'I was flying' kind of dreams

A dream journal is definately a wonderful idea!

I've had many dreams like that and sometimes they feel so real. It's possible that it is from past lives. You should keep a dream journal. And maybe if you have the money and time to get a past life regression [I think that's what it's called] done. :]

yes i too believe that our dreams stem from what our pasts were like specially whae we dream of places or things we have never been or seen ..but i also thing it could also be outer body experences to another dimention or plane in the shere between worlds....

Alot of dreams come from daily events. But I too have woken up from a dream feeling that it was rather strong emotionally and wonder why I felt like I had done that before. Sometimes if you write down your dreams and then take a week's worth of writings and compare them you will have some facts that you will recognize and be able to tell where they came from. And yes, the could be past memories too........ way long ago past memories!

Hmmm....I am not sure. It sounds like a memory, but you can never be sure. I think that because of our being in the physical state and being so grounded in reality, we dont remeber things that seem illogical. But in our dreams we arent on the physical plane. No one can understand the astral plane. Last night I saw a beloved friend of mine in my dream. He died 17 days ago and I havent had a chance to say a proper farewell. I did, and I dont think it was JUST a dream. Its a mystery I dont think I will ever understand.

Territhian - I don't think that was a dream. I think that was your chance to say goodbye to him. That happens alot after deaths of loved ones.

it depends . . do you get dejavu a lot . . i get both deja vu and visions . i can not say i am a psycic but i do predict what happends later on in my dreams . . it cant be exact when i get it and somtimes they are just dreams and i cant make them come when i want they just happen . .i do not beleive in reincarnation but i do beleive in visions

my dearest darkling. in my belief reincarnation is true. I get visions all the time of past times. vampires really don't longer than any other person but then die they are reborne as a new vampire and if you were not ever in a past life born as a vampire you must be awakened. you will then have visions of past lives as you become more intuned to your vampire soul

That's an interesting theory.....who knows? Maybe that actually is the case, and it's not reincarnation at all.

As good as the dream journal idea, I'm gonna have to decline. My dreams/memories are, for the moment, my own, and I don't wish for the whole VR community to know that much about me, as even my own familty doesn't know this much about me. Hope you understand.

What if your mind is just picking up random thoughts and things seen or read and creating what could be a false memory?

Maybe. Maybe not. Dreams and inner workings of the mind are very difficult to study and stuff because you can't literally go in and see what makes it tick. That's what makes psychology such a fun subject.

That's basically what I said too...... because some memories are repressed and not everyone can get them out thru hynosis or the like.

Souls are immortal, but the mortal shell obviously isn't...So there's reincarnation. I don't think we're meant to vividly remember our past lives, but then you never know...I know I've heard several accounts of people remembering their past lives, so I can't say.

I think when we sleep our brain does two things, it rewind what had happen creating a releasing of the stress or increasing depending on how we felt when going to bed and the other part is a pill up of all our memories, past life or present

i think it's the subconscious's (sp.?) way of easily calling up past life memories, we are cloaked in sleep so it's easier to re-live those experiences.

I believe in reincarnation.... therefor i feel that our dreams that are more pronounced and remembered are dreams of past lives. I mean there are differances in dreams. I also believe the same thing about de' ja vu. I think that de ja vu is kind of a life marker that lets our soul know its on the right path.... My ideas are still a bit scattered on it but yeah i think that some of our dreams are flashbacks of past lives

Dream journals are very important, highly recommend people trying to use one. Just keep it by the bed with a pen handy.

Dreams can be many things.... your brain just winding down from the day and doing it's thing - which is medical fact; dreams of memories of past lives and perhaps lives or events to come. Peoples' dreams have been omens of a sort which has been discussed many times.

Also the human mind when under stress will create situations or events in our dreams that actually represent something much differant, it is the sub mind doing it thing to figure out issues, wierd, but not always whats happeneing.

I absolutely believe in past lives and reincarnation. I've dreamed about past lives, but I've also had experiences where I'd read something about the past or see it on TV, and get those stomach-dropping "willies" that you know more about that than you should. Unfortunately, for me at least, it's always the past lives that didn't end well that always seem to pop up for me. =)

I do not believe in reincarnation. I think that our dreams are either what we are thinking about at the time or something we want to live, but can't. A nightmare is just torture of the brain.

You are probably having visions of past lives as another has said on here...our body can not live forever but our souls continue on. You are probably remembering things you have seen or done when your soul inhabited another body.

For you personally I cannot say if it is a dream or a past life...however I do believe in that dreams can be memories of past lives...I know because it happened to me.

At the time when I had the dream I thought it was just that...a dream...until recently.

I had never told anyone of my dream..yet I met someone on here who told me that dream...someone from a past life whom I had shared that life with...they were able to describe the events in my dream.

So yeah..I am definitely a believer that dreams can be memories of past lives. How else could it be explained that this person I had never met could have possibly related the events to me?

I believe they are memories of past incarnations, and they tend to surface during dreams because are conscious mind drops its guard, so to speak, while we sleep. Feelings and memories that are buried very deeply in our subconscious are accessed more easily.

I do think that it is possible for one to remember events from a past life...I have known a few people that have had the same experience you are having...in fact one even knew how they had died in their past life...After all our bodies are just a vessel to our soul...

Dreams are under the influnce of our lives. If you have stron immagination its very possible that you will dream many strange things.
Its also like when you dreams about something you expirinced few days before. Its usually very realistic.

Well since no one being can live forever I do not think it is forgotten memories. But on that note it could be memories from a previous life that you have remembered, or it could just be a dream.

I find myself dreaming about past memories too

I dream very vivid and bizarre things that do not make sense half the time.... cant see how they could be past lives..they still may have some relavance, but not sure how

I believe that dreams are supressions of what you have experienced or are about to experience and also hold warnings,like I dreamed I was gonna get bit by spiders and the next day I leaned against an entire nest,luckily I had a jacket on though it still scared me,as for memories those are what you hold in your heart and when you have an experiece of de-ja voodoo then the memory arises as you have dun this before.

It's possible, but I think I would prefer to think of dreams as just that; dreams! When we sleep, we "write" in our permanent memory, so dreams are just manifestations of what we went through that day, and sometimes it's the sub conscience bubbling up to the surface.

I totally agree with feelings of memories of past lives. The soul does have a long memory, and Fate sometimes has plans for you..or at least that's what I believe.

well in general dreams of the past is most likely just dreams you find yourself being apart of due to fresh information coming into contact with your brain.if not anything else it could be a past life coming back to the surface.

Sometimes dreams could be something locked in your unconscious... it could be a past life or it could be nothing but if it's recurring then I think it has a significant meaning... If you do believe in past lives and reincarnation then it would really make more sense as to why you keep having the dream. Sometimes there are things in your past life that carry on in your soul. Just go with your instincts or gut feeling...

It is quite possible that your dreams are memories from this life or you last or it could even be some issue that your subconscious is trying to workout..

No one will try to change your beliefs here. To me beliefs are what you believe without factual evidence... Even memories change over time, do you really remember hanging with your grandparents when you were 2 or have pictures and stories told to you over the years influenced your memories?

I think that they are both. Sometimes they are memories and other times they are your brain working through the days happenings and sometimes they are visions of the future. asking whether they are one or the other is like asking if people are good or bad... They are both.

Dreams can be both memories and future events in my experience. Dreams are extrodinary--they are in no way linear, like our lifetime(s).

I think dreams could be memories of past lives. But they also might be visions of the future, bits and pieces of your present situation, things like that.

Dreams are hard to describe. We can't really say what they are.

Dreams can be a combination of things...

It can be away for the subconscious to work out issues for the conscious.

I believe it is possible for reincarnation of a selected spirit. However, how come everyone who discovers their reincarnated spirit tends to be a Famous spirit? And how come some people have the same famous spirit?

Actually Wensala,yes,I do.I have alot of memories that go back that far.But what I do not understand is how one determines a past life memory as opposed to a dream.Any why is it that whenever I hear about past life"memories" everyone is always important,never just a normal person.

For if the past memories are yet not true they are such a dream, as children many times we have imagined a thing to in some cases be fact. so memory as a dream huh. yet when we pass and what are beliefs are reincarnation or just turning to dirt. memories of the soul I believe can be passed. whether we believe in deja vue( been having that lately alot) or just a rip in the fabric of times allowing such memories to evade or own consious mind.

Dreams and Memories both i do not really remember is very selective on each end so sometimes i wonder what ones was the dream or what was the memory or if it happen or hasnt happened but the mind can be a very complex thing in what is trully happening or a complete mist anyways.. but its possiable it dose exisit

Genetic or inherited memories are carried with us throughout our lives, and can be dreamed about, but how mentally open or in tune we are dictates our acceptance and understanding of them. Many today discount what those of yesterday knew... That the experiences of our ancestral lineage are carried within us, and are added to by us for the next generation(s).
