Please before responding, check this link out to see all the different things the number 9 symbolizes.
#9.
Now after seeing all these, do u beleive that this number is more significant in numerology then any other number? Does the number really have supernatural and magical powers when used in appropriate situations? Some say that the number represents death and despair and is usually associated with disasters and war. Is that true? if so any examples? Or is it just another thing that has been looked into too much?
Nothing has true power unless it is given power...by humans
no, sorry this is someone with too much time on their hands. Where are the pages that have the significances of all the other numbers? such as 1,2,3... ? there is a whole thing called numerology not just the power of #9.
after the tragegy of 9/11 they came out with all the coincidences of 9-11 which thats all it was. I believe thats what this is.
I'm with DarkWolfMan here... anything gain power and significance if someone gives those to it.
Hmm, since mathematics is always a part of metaphysics, then we would have a simple pothagorian theorum to speculate upon...Since 9 does equal everything within that link of yours, then we can easily simplify it into meaning.
Thus being, any event in world history added, divided, multiplied etc, can and will in turn proceed to interject the same values over and over with the calculated variables concerning this one unique number.
Friday the 13th is only considered bad luck because of what happened to the Knights Templar
I dont think a number can represent anything bad. But before a determination is made it would be good to see what all the other numbers represent
In numerlogy numbers have more meaning then just the number 9.
But I found the link you given very interesting on the number 9.
Note to ~DarkWolfMan~ Just because Masons consider the number 9 to be an eternal number for immortality, does not justify your post.
As stated in historical fact, the Templar Knights were burned for heretical matters on Friday, Oct. 13 1312...Which has nothing to do with the number 9.
As being a Masonic Historian, I can back up these historic facts, as they are completely documented.
Which is why I am wondering why you brought it up in the first place, considering we are discussing the number 9 and not Masonic histories.
This brings to mind the movie "23". I'm willing to bet that there are many numerals that you can find a particular path with not just the number 9. This is the first that I have heard of it.
Interesting SS, good read.
Polishsiren- I to agree that many times these type of symbolizes are just the work of a overactive mind and coincidence. But I don't believe it to be so in this case.
I believe that certain symbols (which the # 9 is just a symbol) can be the catalyst for invoking various things (like what was listed in the link). I believe the actual metaphysical properties come from the layout of the number not the number itself.
interesting very intersting.... I'm really not sure what to think on this really. I mean I'm like the rest it only has real "power" because we give it that.... my numerology number is 9 and I really never thought about having special gifts or what have you.... just kinda like horoscopes.... take it as a bit of information to ponder on nothing more really
I found a page with The significance of three and 9 can be divided by 3 so what does that mean now?
DarkWolfMan has a good point. I think it is just another mathematical trick. It is the same with the number 13. You can pick any numer and find signifigances, it is all in the eye of the beholder, how much value and truth you put into the findings. I deffinately think this is something that has been look into to much, but interesting none the less.
You cannot nessessarily call mathematics trickery, when the evidence is so well founded. Certain numbers coorespond for a reason, even though society has yet to determine the cause for some of the reasoning behind certain equations, does not mean they do not have a proper value, or proportion as to why they are created in such manner in the first place.
I agree with Polishsiren and it does sound like someone has had way to much time on there hands lol
The post claiming that nothing has power unless it is given power by us is interesting. Now, is it that we give it power, or is it the understanding of a thing that gives us power?
Just because something is unknown does not mean it does not have meaning or power, just because someone doesn't know about nuclear energy - doesn't make it less powerful.
There are many people who believe in numerology - and there are many sites and books that have different meanings for each number. Some of these differences are small while others can be almost complete opposites.
It is frustrating to try to get to the truths, if any lie within numerology.
The number nine is significant to me for it symbolizes the trinity on all three realms of the self. I believe that there is power in all things, I believe that numbers can have quite a bit of power.
I also see how people, armed with just a little knowledge on a subject, can make hasty assumptions and perhaps not have the clearest picture.
wow that is soooooo awesome i just wanted to add 9 is my ex bfs and i lucky number.. and we dont find to many who love that number it was nice to see the significance behind it
daemona - I understand what you are saying however the member was asking specifically to referance the particular website not a general referance to the number 9. Now you mentioned in your post that the #9 nine is signifant to you as for the trinity doesn't that signify the #3?
Oh how I loath the stereotypical Numerology response, this just gives a reasoning behind numbers...Why can't we just add something without it being given psychic reasoning?
Everyone has the right to their opinons...just because you believe the numbers thing and other do not...doesn't give you the right to bash what they believe in.
Just like everyone that has to add 666 or 420 to their VR names...they are just numbers...even though 666 is supposedly the mark of the beast...and the 429 is either a reference to rolling papers or to Waco....either way....to those people those numbers mean something to them....they give them "power" by believing in them.
I thought the whole purpose of these forums was to share our opinions and beleifs (and facts if there are any on the subject)- not to attack each other for having a different veiw point. Everyone does have the right to their opinions and there should be no bashing - can we play nicely now?
Polishsiren - I understand the Trinity is represented by 3 now multiply it by the 3 realms of self and you get 9. It is significant to me for that reason. If you read the link, this is one of the things listed on it so I truly am staying on topic.
I am sure others have a different opinion on what the meaning of the number 9 is to them.
I'm with Soulshroude and DarkWolfman but one thing I didn't know that 429 means rolling papers lol kidding DW :p I knew what you meant hehe
One line in the article explains it all:
In the revelations received by Mary Jane of United States, the Lord says that there are nine degrees of prayers.
"received by Mary Jane" - They were all HIGH!
thats an interesting concept... I never heard someone multiplying it before. I never implied you not staying on topic. What I was refering to was that it was only one view of the number 9 as that was a narrow view and there are many views to numbers in differants ways and concepts to people that it can't be left to being slim.
I have to agree with others. Things can only be given power by those who truly believe in them. There is a great amount meaning behind many things in life. It comes down to what you believe and wish to give your energies too.
its funny how people use 420 in their names,. from a historical persepctive.. now dont mind me..
4/20 ---
prophet muhammad
Marcus Arelius
napolean the 3rd
Adolf Hitler
were born on 420
back to the number 9...in numerology im a number 9 but dont know exactly what that means and things that have happened to me always happen to me in 9s ...
9 is also the only number multiplied by any number than added will equal itself
let me show ya
3x9=27
2+7=9
or here is another
2x9= 18
1+8= 9
ok one more cua i love this number
4x9=36
3+6=9
ok so i really do love this number
99^2=9801
999^2=998001
9999^2=99980001
............................
99^2=9801
999^2=998001
9999^2=99980001
add all those numbers and it will still equal 9
9+8+0+1=9
im tellin ya ...u cant do it with any other number ..this is why this number is the best number in all the universe
Lots of tales indeed...
http://www.hknet.org.nz/108meaning.html
I wish I knew how I felt about this at this time. But, Maybe it could be that people are looking into this a little too much. It is very interesting and everyhting is Ironic how it has appeared in the bible, in culture and occurence.
Interesting topic. I feel numbers only have significance if you give it. Each number can have a list of significant facts and dates involving it. That said I personally like 9 as I as born on 9/9 at 1209 at night (0009 military time). Still just personal significance rather than cosmic meaning....
Well all the answers given above states one thing that anything can have multiple meanings so be it
No because people make everything what it is. They size it up or size it down either way I don't think anything is better then anything.
although i admit i didnt read ALL that was listed there... i think any number can be used to say the same thing... i mean... try looking up 7 and youll get related results... and math mathematically there is lots of significant numbers... but it all goes back to what numbers are... they are a quantity of objects... they dont really mean anything but give a label to how much there is of somthing
Lets see Freemasons, Egyptians, Greeks, Angels to name a few. I cannot say for sure. But that is throughly amazing for one number.
Well actually in answer to the iniitial question, the only thing with real power is a name. And yes, people give things power and it is only their imagination.
I am always open to new ideas ,theories ,etc. Personally, I think a number is a number, unless someone gives or believes it has a significance or evil power, yadda, yadda. Kinda like turning on a light switch ,nothing is there in the dark that is not there in the light, unless wishes or thinks it is.
to me nothing has powers unless you give it powers or allow it powers over you or something.. just me
see my birthday is march 9 1977 ..now if u add 3+9+1+9+7+7= 36
3+6=9
im a 9!
get this
born at 9:09 aM
my grandmas 9th grandchild
room 369 in the hospital
9th kid born that morning in the womans ward
trippy eh
so much stuff happens to me in 9s... and if thats the case i have 6 lives left lol
Numbers have significance only if you give them that importance...I don't...about the number 9 I'm not sure if it is the most meaningful...mystical...whatever...I haven't seen the rest of the numbers descriptions...and frankly after seeing the length of the page for number 9 I'll have to pass and read a book or do something else...
i'd honestly say that the number would only have significance if you empower it.
true but i still see 9s everywhere or things happen to me in 9s ...at least themost significant ones
i'm a 9 numerically and i don't think my life is super magically charged, so i don't see the significance.
I believe all numbers are important at different times in the existence of all sentient beings on this planet. Whereas those looking for power or completion may find great results in expressing through themselves the number nine, others may find that wishing to be one with their creator and act as his right hand may find the number twelve more beneficial.
In terms of more important or not, it serves its purpose perfectly for itself and no more nor less is asked of it or any other number.
I dont think the number itself has any special effects or powers unless you want it too.
Numbers like words are only powerful because of the meaning we assign to it. Is 9 somehow more magical than 7? 23? 40? There are a lot of numbers out there that can be broken down and manipulated to turn into other numbers.
9 is just another regluar number that humans gave the theory to it......
I dont think it does any more so then any other number. But then you can give power to any thing even a squiggly child's drawing can be given power.
The only number I would assign power and unusual awe to is π or pi which is commonly found throughout geometry, nature, and engineering.
a number is just a number....the only thing that could have power is the one giving power to the number.
I believe it is just another thing that has been looked into too much. People pick something and increase it's value to explain things sometimes
That page was a Christian page about bible stuff… maybe it’s luck 9 for Christians….. who knows
i didnt think they belived in such stuff
You have said so yourself that those were symbolisms of the number 9. So, I personally believe that 9 as well as all the other numbers to infinity are just, well, numbers. The meanings are just given to them by people, for whatever purposes they might have.
you can draw indefinate conclusions on any number there will be something special about it that is why we have numerology
Soulshroud - if you add up all the numbers associated with the date the Templar Knights were burned for heretical matters you get the #3 which, when added with the statement from daemona that "The number nine is significant to me for it symbolizes the trinity on all three realms of the self." ultimately means that the number 9 does have links to that date!
also what about the number 666?
6+6+6=18
1+8=9
SPOOKY???
I am well aware of the mathematical equations Mistress, I can also inform you of several other equations that do the same thing, does not mean a conspiracy is about.
Try this link on for size to get my point across...
Sacred numbers and equations
It may send you for a loop.
Hey wherever did I mention a conspiracy? I was merely putting across my point of view!
No need to get heated, they were my words, not yours. Such anger for such a little thing.
Awww i'm not angry nor heated - it's actually quite cold here in England!!!
My sincerest apologies my dear.
Now, I say once one has read the link on display within my post, they may notice as to why I said what I said.
I have read your link & enjoyed it thank you. Numbers are great aren't they? Or does that make me sound just a little bit sad?
hmm all very interesting, but u really dont think it means anything and i dont think a simple number can have any kind of power
Perhaps it's a case of numerous groups taking numbers and using them for their own rituals etc ?
Like anything else the number 9 would have no significance if it were not coupled with some kind of belief system.
As with all cultures, belief systems are iminent...You cannot have a devide unless it is set upon beliefs, as is with life. Dealing with emotions is a belief system within itself. Same with religion. No matter what, beliefs are a part of life. It is the way with drama as well.
Good point SS
We all know that personal beliefs can make something powerful to that person. And yes 9 is a number, we can all attest to that.
I believe the key to understanding a number's supposed metaphysical properties would be how it's written.
This is the "Evolution of the glyph", as written in
Wikipedia.

Doesn't the original look like a part of a ankh?
This could be how the number gets it power.
Here are some other interesting correlations of the number.
It seems like there is a certain meaning in the number 9, and perhaps, as many sources suggest a higher meaning/value as well, but I believe that in order to achive and extract a usefull productive fact beneficial to our minds as universal beings, we are yet to understand and discover a precise mathematical formula wich would correctly lead us to the greater understandings of the number 9 as a certain number of higher value in our universe, and give us the benefit of the knowledge associated with its secrets/meanings.
It is rather strange how the three goes into the nine... I must look at this deeper.
see my birthday is march 9 1977 ..now if u add 3+9+1+9+7+7= 36
3+6=9
im a 9!
and im now 31 lol hahaha
like i said i do love that number
I do think that there is something to numbers.....I think the numbers 7 and 11 are more powerful numbers though in the spiritual realm.
a 9 is yet just a number for me...the number i like more is a 6 :P
i was born on the 6th month, 6th day 6th hour O:)
I think it is just a number and People with too much time on their hands have made it seem like more than it really is.
I believe numbers have significance, I'm not really sure what 9 really means, but I know throughout my own life numbers have played a role...
O.O ..to me 9 is part of a number stating a date for something nothing more nothing less...devine power?? not saying a word on that so this is where I will end this on my part
~Lady D~
Dewey Finn: *singing* Math is a wonderful thing. Math is a really cool thing. So get off your ath, let's do some math. Math, math, math, math, math. Three minus four is?
Summer Hathaway: Negative one.
Dewey Finn: That's right. And six times a billion is?
Marco: Six billion?
Dewey Finn: Nailed it. And fifty-four is forty-five more than what is the answer, Marta?
Marta: Nine.
Dewey Finn: No, it's eight.
Marta: ...No, it's nine.
Dewey Finn: ...Yes, I was testing you... it's nine. And that's a magic number.
Can't say that I have seen 9 be more powerful than any other number that I have been exposed to.
As of now, I truly believe the the numbers of power right now are pi and the 0 and 1 used for computing.
These are numbers that have visibily changed out lives.
Like any other magickal correspondent it is something to consider for ritual or spell if you are so inclined but it should not limit you and it has no more power than anything else that aides in magickal work.
I believe that anything can have power if it's believed in enough.
I,m sorry but you are trying to put to much importance into a single number ,if you are into numerology the the number 9 can have a significance as a whole but just as a lone number no, in ancient times numerology was used to foretell people fortunes.
Hmmm that brings me back.. I use to do numerology in High School for anyone who wanted to know. I know my birth number and name number. Great question.. nine smbolizes many things, to include the divine (God).
Why do cats have 9 lives?
Why the old saying "a stitch in time saves 9"?
from www.heroeswiki.com:
Writers Joe Pokaski and Aron Coleite have commented in a series of interviews titled Behind the Eclipse that fans of the series Heroes should be watching for the number nine (9) to have a significance in the show. So far, the significance of nine has either been minimal or hidden.
Symbolic Meanings of the Number 9
The numerological significance of just about any number can apply to just about any situation, like a fortune cookie. Does the number 9 really have any more of a special application to Heroes than any other number?
Possible applications:
The myth of The Nine Unknown Men has been around since 273 b.c. An elite group of men founded by the Indian Emperor Asoka, are believed to currently still exist. Evidence of their roles in the advancement of our world have been cited throughout history. These Nine Unknown Men are said to have tremendous powers and knowledge well beyond anything we have ever seen. They are said to be the protectors of any and all knowledge that would be harmful to mankind, and they are also said to be the source of many of mankind's advances in all aspects of life. The story and history of The Nine Unknown Men is very large, very rich, and embedded in conspiracy dating back to before Christ. It has been said by writers of the show that the legend of The Nine Unknown Men has been the source of many of their ideas and plans for the future of the show.
In an interview, Joe Pokaski and Aron Coleite confirmed that the Nine Unknown Men are one of the many influences in creating Heroes.
In Hindu mythology, the 9 major celestial bodies are personified as the Navagraha, one of whom (the moon) is named "Chandra".
Also in Hindu mythology, Vishnu, considered the supreme being by many, has had 9 avatars (incarnations). A tenth avatar is predicted.
There are both nine circles of Hell and nine spheres of Heaven in Dante's Inferno.
The number 9 is present in many Chinese myths. The Chinese Netherworld supposedly has nine rivers in a nine-headed dragon. Also, ancient Chinese believed that the sky consisted of nine parts, the earth had nine separate countries, and each of those countries had nine mountain ranges.
In Norse Mythology secrets are revealed to Odin after hanging on the World Tree for 9 nights.
In Pythagorean numerology, the number nine is significant for a number of reasons. First, it is the highest value assigned to a letter or date. Second, because of the method of adding digits used, nines can be "cast out": a number like 19 is reduced as followed: 1+9=10; 1+0=1. In other words, you can simply drop the nine and reach the same result quickly.
In Greek mythology, there were 9 muses, responsible for creation of the arts by way of inspiration. They were the daughters of Zeus, king of the gods.
In Egyptian mythology, the Ennead were a group of nine gods and goddesses. Before passing onto the afterlife, a person had to be judged as worthy by the Ennead.
The world in Heroes is at the end of one era just before the dawn of another.
The number 9 is the last digit before the start of double-digit numbers (in base 10). This feature is the reason the number nine has certain unique mathematical properties, such as the digits of every multiple of 9 adding up to 9 or another multiple thereof.
In French the word neuf means both nine and new. In German, the words for nine and new are neun and neu, and in Spanish, nueve and nuevo.
It is very likely that the turning point between the two eras is the explosion, which is set to occur on November 8th. The next 'era' therefore would begin on November 9th. Also, the prefix to November is related to Latin words for both "nine" and "new".
Nine as the perfect/necessary group size, in Indian/Asian mythology:
Important Buddhist rituals usually involve nine monks. from Wikipedia:Nine
Nine, as the highest single-digit number (in base ten), symbolizes completeness in the Bahá'í Faith. from Wikipedia:Nine
There are nine basic personality types represented on the enneagram. (It is believed that the Enneagram figure is of ancient origin, possibly from within Sufism...) In geometry an enneagram is a regular nine-sided star polygon, using the same points as the regular enneagon but connected in fixed steps. from Wikipedia:Nine
The Asian magic square (think of Sudoku) is one in which each number 1 through 9 is used only once. from The Symbolism and Spiritual Significance of the Number Nine, Dee Finney
These ideas - of nine being "complete" or the number necessary for a ritual - may suggest that it will take exactly nine heroes to stop the bomb and/or stop Sylar. While everyone has a part to play in some fashion, nine people have to be together for everything to align and the "good" future to unfold instead of the dark future. The interconnectedness of the enneagram also suggests the need for nine heroes whose lives have been intertwined. (Consider the many "coincidental" run-ins we've seen between them.) The magic square also suggests nine heroes being used, each playing one single important part to the whole.
999 is the Australian number of the beast. The beast could be Uluru.
You know, most of you in here belive in something. Someone does belive in vampires, someone in magic and ghosts. Another thinks that there is a god or they are into sf things.
I do belive in numerology and asspecially in 9. My whole life have maning in that number. My birthdate, my name if you convert it to digits. I did even my profile in that way with nine pictures where I describe myself with my b-day gif.
If you look further, all numbers have meanings....1, 2, 3, .....and so on. But for those who are interested in that they seeks by theirself allready.
My point is....I DO BELIVE IN POWER OF NINE!!!
LumiyaoftheSith -
Thank you that was a very interesting post.
I personally hold no significance for the number 9, however, my reality is based upon my perception of the issues that I believe to be true concerning the number.
I dont think the number itself have any power at all other then just a number. But in some groups it can get power linked with it when they create something on it.
Numerology does have its merits and insights.
There are numbers that are widely known to mean something: 13 for bad luck, especially in hotel floors and Fridays.
7 for good luck - like the day we had last year, 7/7/07
then 666... and how great was that day we had: 6/6/06?
The Beatles White album and the song "Number 9, number 9, number 9......"
While some people may hold values to certain numbers, I do not believe that they have an effect on their lives. And if they somehow do, said effect is close to negligible.
The same as the number 3 and 6.....9 can mean bad luck in writing were bad things tend to happen in 3s 6s or 9s
I think a lot of people take things way too superstitiously. It's just a number, it can't hurt you.
