I recently found a new news article on stonehenge. The researchers have recently discovered cremated remains in holes around in the ditches. Apparently it was a burial site for an elite class/possible rulers of the 3000-2000BC era. As the family tree expanded, the site also grew in size. There was also apparently a seasonal village that went with the burial site that had 300 to up to 1000 homes in it.

I have to wonder who these people were and if any generations still exist. Could these be the beginnings of Aurthor or even the druids?
Just before I went to bed last night, I saw an add for a tv prog on the National Geographic station regarding Stonehenge.
It mentioned new evidence...but I missed when it was going to be aired.
Think it's next week....if I see it again I will post, but if someone sees it first could you please let me know ?
I would love to see it.
Sinora,
I beleive the epsiode is "Stonehenge Decoded", which will be broadcast this Sunday 1st June at 8pm Eastern time.
National Geographic's June issue has a whole layout about Stonehenge. It's very interesting.
i would tend to believe that it erved as some sort of burrial area for the most devote of druids and royals but looking forward to the show stabb mentioned to find out fact
The June issue of National Geographic and the stonehenge article are fabulous.
Necrop, the article includes info on Durrington Walls and Woodhenge which you mentioned in a previous thread.
Here's a link to an interactive quiz re. Stonehenge. some beautiful pictures with it.
Stonehenge Quiz
My grandfather (who had a wanna-be Einstein without the Einstein thing) would explain that people always looked to hard when all they had to do whas wait for the right tie to come around. And the great thing was, they mad it twice a day!
I always thought this was a corny joke, until I started catching on the that all the abe-bodies men and young boys suddenly went for "many walk" for about forty minutes each day.
So, my load of crap on the subject is that I wholeheartedly believe it is a broken compass and sundial.
I think there was royalty that was buried here and the rock formation is some kind of tribute to them
Well that is way cool, and yes, I believe it is. A friend and I believe they were brought on ships, those stones.
So in all this research, have they found if there is anything paranormal or energy wise at stone hedge or is it simply a burial ground?
I believe it is a buiryal ground, for maybe the high rankings of druids or kings or leaders back in them days. it does look intresting and i would love to watch it!
so how did they move the ships across land? the stones are from Wales, Stonehenge is on salisbury plain. no major river there and there is no ocean between the two places. ships are kind of redundant in this case.
One theory is they were moved along the Bristol Channel (the long way around the land mass of Salisbury Plain), and then up a tributary of the River Avon. That way, they wouldn't have been dragged over land very much.
could have come part of the way by raft - not ships though. english rivers are not like american rivers - more like streams. even the more modern canals are only suited for small vessels. they would have had tyo have come at least part of the way by land, and it may have been easier to go by land all the way than to keep loading them on and off boats. also, travelling by land may have made it more of a spectacle, causing excitement and festivals at every settlement they passed through. besides, contrary to popular myth, we did have a pretty good road system before the romans arrived. taking the stones along these tracks (maybe even ley lines) could well have been an important spiritual jouney. it's not as if there was any rush to get the job done.
I read the article about them finding graves at Stonehenge but even so it is still a sacred site and should not be bothered . if it had been a Christian site it would not have been dug up . But some people think that if its not a Christian thing its fine to disturb it I,m sorry but its wrong also the people who desecrated the stones ! I hope you go to jail for a long time.
they dig up christian sites all the time. jerusalem is constantly being dug up by the christians and muslims.
i am glad people posted the extra sites, but i was already aware of them. i was hoping people would discuss what was in the articles.
So with these people buried there could it be a site like they say I mean a gateway between our world and the spiritual world?????
I find it amazing that with Stonehedge we are still finding out things that go deep into our past history.
It is said that Stonehedge has mystic properties and I
believe that the burials found are related. So I am eager to hear more on this.
Well, I watched the program and the big thing it expresed is the journey they took making stonehenge and the jouney between the two henges(the normal stone henge and the wooden version a few miles away from the stone construction.)
that's fabulous and definitely a show i will watch. i most certainly would think that anyone buried there woould have to perhaps have some sort of nobility attached to them.
Stonhenge is a very special place to me...so special that my back piece in the works is centered around it. I watched every documentry on it every time I catch it on the Discovery channell or on the History channell. Last night I saw the program also on the NG channell.
Its where my ashes are going when I die...thats been in my will for many, many years now.
I think thru DNA some people could be traced back to the DNA of what was found at the site.
Its very possible that they could be the beginiging of druids or even a race or religon they we don't even know about it.
execelant show on TV last night called stonehenge decoded and there was a wooden henge built the stones are death and wood is life and the show was very good and in great detail i wanted to know what others thought of the show in the sandbox and it got closed the show was 2 hours long they discovered over 1000 houses of the people who lived there a whole entire city
I read the national Geo. story / article it was very enlightening, I think that there were life for years there and maybe we will soon find the meaning behing StoneHenge... of course we may not want to know by then either.
I mean we are always going and digging up and destroying areas just to get to the relics and history of them. The thing that I wonder is are you not worried you may be disturbing a resting place as well??!! just a thought is all, to ponder.
I have always wanted to visit StoneHenge....
When I was a kid, I saw a show that claimed someone took a wire hanger... twisted in to the shape of an egyptian anhk.. and point the wire and Stonehenge...
according to the stories... the person was knocked unconscious via a high energy output....
Since then I alway wanted to try it for myself....
But alas... when I was last in London.... Stonehenge was vandalized... and people were no longer allowed to visit the ruins.....
But I have tried to keep up on the discoverys surrounding Stonehenge.... and I am most interested in the archiological studies of the ancient people who are alleged to have built or helped build the Monument....
I didn't think that was recent... I thought there had always been bodies there. The program I watched had said something about they think they may have been druids. Maybe some of the original peoples who built it. Or maybe just peoples who held rituals there.
sonehenge decoded
is on channel 276 direct tv
right now and again later this eve
i watched a TV show about how some volunteers and some scientist dug up the land around the Stonehenge...
they found this huge village and it was really cool.
the people could possibly be of that period....
Stonehenge is connected to the heavens, that's people were buried there, because they worshiped the stars and their souls would rise up into the heavens.
On this months edition of National Geographuc, there is an interesting piece about Stonehendge entitled "secrets ofStonehendge" and is regarding the recent findings, tests etc.
Legend states that Merlin summoned the stones that make up Stonehenge from the Giant's Circle in Ireland.
Mid-12th Century pseudo-historian Geoffrey of Monmouth, whose book Historia Regum Britanniae (“History of the Kings of Britain”) presented the legend of King Arthur as fact, was perhaps the first to come up with an elaborate, fanciful explanation for Stonehenge’s existence. According to Geoffrey, the monument’s bluestones originated in Africa, where ancient giants scooped them up because of their healing properties and transported them to the mythical Mount Killaraus in Ireland, where they formed the Giants’ Circle. But when Aurelius Ambrosius, King of the Britons, wanted to create a memorial to slain warriors, the magician Merlin suggested to him that the stones would make excellent building material. The king sent an army to defeat the Irish in battle, but they were unable to move the stones, until Merlin used his sorcery to dismantle the structure and transport it across the sea—proving, in the process, that the supernatural was more potent than brute force.

We know almost nothing about who built Stonehenge and why. A popular theory advanced in the 19th century was that the Druids, a people that existed in Britain before the Roman conquest, had built it as a temple. Modern archaeological techniques, though, have dated Stonehenge and we now know that it was completed at least a 1,000 years before the Druids came to power. If Druids used Stonehenge for their ceremonies they got the site secondhand. Despite this, modern Druids have laid claim to Stonehenge and an annual ceremony takes place at Stonehenge during Summer solstice, one of the ring's astronomical alignments.

Has anyone seen the film by chance?
Here is the article to further what has been posted above.

Maybe we're all looking too much into it, and that Stonehenge wasn't as big or important at the time of it's use as we all speculate that it was.
Stonehenge has too many theories. We can not really prove one way or the other as to what it was. I personally believe that Witches did practice there.
it would be quite fascinating if one could have some type of genology that connected them back to the ones that were barried back then but i am sure it would be nearly impossible to do..
i agree i think part of their being so popular is there still being much of a mystery to how and why and who.still..it's quite fascinating.
Being part of a druid order in England we go to perform rituals all the time there.
The Tv show showed the best explanation ever, the village sent people to get the stones and they moved them to there resting place a very focus point of lay line energy indeed.
They started at the wood ones for life… dumped the ashes of lost loved ones in the river and went to the stones for the rise of a new year… great stuff.
The original link doesn't work. :( It's been a while since I've heard anything on Stonehenge. It's fascinating to hear this new development. Now, if I understand correctly, they found cremated remains? How do they know they were human? Also, an odd twist here, but what if it were the remains of the victims they sacrificed instead of the remains of nobility? Has anyone made that claim yet? I wish that link worked so I could check this out...
Well to make it short… only a couple were buried at the stones.. kings only. Sacrifices were found nearby, they made them run then shot them with arrows and dumped in waste ditches.
A path was trodden into the ground and pathed with white gravel from the village to the wood circle then on past the river and up the blind side of the hill to Stonehenge.
You will have to watch it for sure..
yes stonehenge was a secert meeting place for druids if Iam not mistaken
Stonehenge is a site that to this day that has been buried in myth and other such things. they know how it was built some what but what i want to know is what this site was really for. what purpose did it serve the Druids was it an alter or a sun dial as some say it was.
I think it's possible that those people may have been those who looked after Stonehenge and held rituals there. So yes ... the druids. I doubt any lineage of them exist anymore. I think they died ages ago.
