Becasuse the world needs a scapegoat, someone to blame problems on. Would someone be more apt to believe that someone of their own faith which claims to worship god would do something bad, or someone of a religion which many people do not understand which seems to worship the devil? Most people are narrowminded and see god as good and the devil as bad and because of the world we live in, we cant deny that there is bad in the world... who else would the world blame it on? Most of the world wont even give Satanism and other often misunderstood religions a chance, I dont believe its anything personal... just a case of being narrowminded and sheepminded.

I guess it's because some people see it as black and white, there's no gray in between, by that I mean they've always been taught that god is good and Satan is evil. So who ever is a follower of god is good and who ever follows satan is evil. They can't accept the fact that satanism is just another religion and that some good people may follow it as well. They assume that all satanists abuse children or harm animals or what ever may be the crime in question, when really religion has nothing to do with it, the fact is everyone has the ability to commit these crimes...I guess satanists take the blame for most of it because people are closed minded and automatically assume that all people that follow this religion commit murders and other crimes. People stay away from and mock that which they do not understand...so I guess it has alot to do with people not willing to accept it as an actual religion...or something that should be accepted and followed.

Society has been dictating that all that donot follow the rules set forth are defient individuals. Satanisn does not go with the flow of societies beliefs so they like many other forms of religion are outcasts and donot have a place in society. yet to understand the individulitities of the person we must accept them for what they believe aND understand. For this world has grown up with the conception that all religions and race have been percecuted through out our history. We must overcome this to survive. we are one world seperated by racism on all factions of life. Yet we have found that some of these individuals say when they are caught that the devil or someone has told them to do it. so this is a start of the bad raps.

As was said earlier...it is societies view on what they do not understand..they fear what they don't so to instill that fear in others they try to make it as evil as possible. Unfortunately alot of the human race are like sheep and they will follow anyone in their beliefs...it is true of other religions that do not conform to what society thinks is "correct".

It is upsetting that different religious beliefs or cultures get a bad rap because ppl want to be ignorant rather than learning the truth. Unfortunately it is the way it has been since the beginning of time and until we can educate more then it will continue.

the ones who typically blame satanists are the ones who are too scared to research the subject. think about it. if they saw a satanic bible the would not touch it. it perpetuates a vicious circle of ignorance all because a scary label no less!

The horrible thing about the case I just pointed out is sometime within the week before he committed the murders, he told his friends, "I'm going to become famous." They didn't know what it meant or anything until after the murders took place.

I remember hearing about this when I was little. I always thought Satanism was evil until I was about 17 years old and looked into it. It's basically just if you respect me, I'll respect you. And that when the world ends there's the belief that Satan will overtake heaven. Or that's what I got from it way back then.

But because of people like Nathan Brooks and so many countless others doing ignorant things and claiming it's in the name of Satan, it's giving it a horrible name.

Well it is true people are afraid of what they do not understand, yet the reason they will not take the time to understand ...in my opinion... Is merely the very Fact that it has the name SATAN in which the majority of human race, was and has been taught that SATAN is Evil automactically... no questions asked.

Murderers, rapists, molesters, come from all walks of life and all religions. In the eyes of most Satin is evil and is what leads us to do that which is evil, but most do not have the oppertnity to read what is written here, the rules or guidlines of satanism. Humans beileve what thye wish and find places to put the blame for those who commit evil deads, and when evil is commited it is often beileved Satan was behind misleading them to commit the acts. I personally beileve we all know right from worng, and it is a personal choice we make if we choose to commit evil deads against others.

it is because most of the USA is Christian and Catholic. And Biblically speaking, anyone who even believes in Satan already belongs too him. When it comes to rape, murder, abuse ETC. No one I' have ever met blames Satanism. They blame the person that committed the crime. Did you know that 70% of serial killers were raised in a very religious household? This to me would be common sense, as to why "satanism" gets a bad rap. If the individual gains an understanding of what "satanism" is as well as means, then mayhaps they would realize why the bad rap.

You see, satan in the religious sense was the evil behind hell. Not just a philosophy imparted by an idealist from the turn of the century. Or from the 60's for that matter.

What those so called "satanists" are preaching these days, is a one life be all end all philosophy that entitles the individual who claims to be a "satanist" to go all out within this life since there really is no next life, no reincarnation within their philosophical belief structure.

The religious "satanist" and the philosophical "satanist" are one and the same in my point of view...Both in the sense that they would be deemed evil since the word "satan" resides within the idea, and or philosophy.

This to be is very much common sense as to why they get the bad rap...Maybe since all their ideals are a bit on the darker side?

Many individuals go to "satanism" with a niave conscience. Not knowing what they are getting into. Jumping in blindly because they may have thought they had a way out.

lol, it's sad but it's true. The majority of people hear the name "Satan" and freak out. I'm very familiar with Satanism by the way of Anton Lavey- and I see nothing wrong with it. Most people get Satanism confused with religions that actually do practice violent acts.

in my opinion, i dont think satanics are bad, there are bad people in every single religion, i am not saying that they are perfect, no religion is. But i can see why people would at first think that they are bad people since satan is supposedly evil (i wont assume since i never and hope not to meet the devil) So if there is a religion that "worships" an evil figure, the worshippers are evil. I heard that satanics don't worship satan, they just embody it and don't care about the 10 commandments. In any religion what it teaches and what its members do and beleive or even act varies from each member to the next, tis truly sad. For example the LDS church has many myths due to the odd things its members do at a given time, but what they do does not mean that is what is taught. The same with Satanism, the people who follow the teachings set a good example, those who do not give it a bad rap.

I think it is more certain individuals that don't follow the true calling of Satanism that gives it the bad rap. From what I recall there is a christian based sect that does practice blood rights and lives up to the reputation. But this the only satanism sect that does these things. I think it is wrong and I feel badly for those that are being tainted. But its not the only religion that gets a bad rap many that fall are not Christian are evil and practice murder, rap and many other disgusting things. Paganism is a big one.

Overall people will not step out of their comfortable square boxes and find out the truth of things. They rather just listen to the majority and close their minds.

It gets a bad rap because of idiots that call themselves Satanists are really not so. They are misguided troubled people that are trying to scare and bully others into leaving them alone or doing what they want them to do. Then it's done in the name of Satanism. Same thing with in the name of God. People proclaim to know what God would want all the time.

Using a few examples, I see this somewhat along the lines of:

1) Those who blame all whites because of Slavery;
2) Those who blame all Germans for the Holocaust;
3) Those who blame all Muslims for Terrorism;
4) Salem Witch Trials;
5) The Inquisition.

Like has been said before in this post, it has to do with fear of the unknown, as well as social learning and conformity, learned prejudice, self-justification, and/or ignorance.

The issue here has nothing to do with the Sacrements or Religion at all, but with judging others. Inability to accept those not like them makes them feel justified in putting blame and/or targeting groups/people for all the bad and evil that goes on.

As I have stated in other posts..the key word is respect...respect others for their differences...we are not all alike nor do we believe in the same things. It is what makes us individuals.

We all have something that we believe in..and unfortunately the world doesn't want to see things for what they are but to take something different and make it bad. It is fear of the unknown that causes ignorance and places blame where it does not belong.

Look at the music industry and how certain genres have been blamed for acts of violence and suicides and such. It is all because someone needed to blame someone or something for a person's actions.

We make our own choices in life and it is misguided individuals who will say they are doing it for a "religious" belief such as satanism or because they feel they didn't "fit in" and was social outcasts. Those individuals feel they have to have someone or something to blame for their misfortune instead of doing something about it that is constructive.

Excellent? I believe people cannot allow themselves to believe they raised a child in a religion such as christianity, and think that they could do such an inhuman act. So it is much easier to blame satan. However I also believe you have very good points in your ? I agree that many a rapist or pedophile probably isn't a satanist. Maybe some may use it in a scapegoat way. Instead of just owning that they are lewd and crewed. I feel all mankind should be allowed to practice any form of religion as long as they are not hurting or abusing anyone against their will. My son is a satanist. I however believe in God, but in trying to understand him and his choices I have looked at his views and their are many valid points in the satanic bible. I believe in good vs evil, I have looked at the wiccan lifestyle too. I like a lot of the views they have. I am not a christian or catholic, History has shown these religions to have abused other humans, say the witch burnings, the crusades. I think its because many people don't truly understand what Satanism is. They base their beliefs not on true understanding, but here say and what their current religion has to view on it.

Because people need someone to blame. There is a widespread definition of good and bad, heaven and hell, god and the devil. And they would rather blame Satan for the bad things then blame themselves.

I do not believe Satanism and violence are combined. You will believe in what you believe and that is how the world works, we all have differ views of things.. It all depends on how you were brought up.

I firmly believe that all organized religion was created to be used as a "scapegoat". With organized religion there is always an intangible being to blame when things go wrong or to praise when something goes right unexpectedly and without human intervention. I have known "satanists" in my lifetime and the true followers are normal, good people like anyone else. Rarely does anyone see a cult, or a religious uprising brought on by a "satanist"...most are backed by "Divine Doctrine"...aka "The Holy Catholic/Christian Church" that somehow gives a priest permission or molest a child, or a religious sect the right to blow up a building full of children...I ask this...who are the true evil doers here???

People need to start taking responsibility for their own actions, period! When something bad happens to them, they blame the devil. If someone wins a million dollars, god granted them that. Satan didnt tell you to rob that bank, you did. God didnt go into the lottery store and buy the winning ticket, you did. The truth is God only exists within yourself. Thing is the most people dont understand what the word satan means. It means the opposite, but opposite to what? Christians use satan as a name for their bad guy the devil. Anton choosed the word satan because the lifestyle he writed about in the satanic bible is opposite to alot of other lifestyles. Example to christians that the world pretty much is builded up on. So satanism is not more evil then anything else. Actually as i see it so is it alot more peacefull then the most other lifestyles and belivesystems.

I got in trouble in high school for openly being wiccan. I was told to take my pentagram off. And I only practice the healings and such. What is wrong with that? I told them I'd only take my neckless off if all the people wearin their religions neckless's off too.
Satanism isn't bad. It just had different views of things then other religions, as all do. It's neither good nor bad. How can one say that god is good and satin is evil. They can't. Cause what if Satin was good and trying to show us that god was evil and free us from his hold and thats why he was banished? Who really knows that answer anymore these days...or do we?

I agree with most everyone here..Anything Ppl doesnt understand or heard badly of it in their lives, will blame what they dont understand..Satanism isnt as Ppl know of, in fact I was shocked to read what I did when I started following The LHP....This is about All things ppl are afraid of , to read about so why not blame something ppl have heard it was bad all their lives?Goes for The Music some of Us listen too...They need a scapegoat...

Well maybe because most people are god fearing and believe that he is our savior and the devil wanted to overthrow him so hints forth he was sent to hell or something like that.. Not sure I don't read the bible, but anyways he is known as bad and the name is SATANism haha..

iam so sick and tired of having to repeat my self people fear what they do not know and what the think they know is mostly false hoods pumped into thier tiny thinking parts, and once they grab that tid bit of info be it true or false they cling to it as if it was gosphal ugh !!!! people dont understand and will not give anyone the time of the day to even figure it out... a few bad apples spoils the bunch in no way shape or form is violence and satanism conected for those who believe this to be a truth iam sorry but you must not know how to read your own books of faith

Well I was just saying the name satan is in it and he is bad so there for the believers think that it is related because of that fact.

to me i think the reason why some of the these darker ways are blamed for the violence that happens to little children and such is because that most of the world is to narrow minded to see what is all out there and to truly understand that persons beliefs for to them if they don't believe in the same thing we are called freaks or worse. and just like that horrid event out there in CO that happen so long ago. all i have to say to that one was WHERE WERE THE PARENTS? enough said in my book.

I have to concur with a lot of people here. I think that people have to have a scapegoat for things that they don't understand, of fear. Satanism seems to take the blame a lot! I also agree that their are bad people who belong to many different religions. We cannot fathom all the different religions, so since Satanism sounds dark and dirty, they get the blame. We want to believe that we are good, but there are people who use "Satanism" as an excuse for the bad things that happen, and can't be explained.

Satan was created by the early christian to make an excuse to kill the witches way back in time. My opinion. Violence exist because some people are stupid to understand the norms of life.

to me most humans are too narrow minded to see what lays beyond there own two eyes. they think that if they can not grasp it with one of the five senses that is simply is not real.

I think that with some people are their religion they can just be left to think this, even if it is not true.

I'm sure most that call themselves satanist don't even know this. They call themselves it because they think it makes them feel/look cool. Which is totally retarded.

I think there are people who incounter spirits that are bad and they go ith what they've learned from that.

Becasue people need something evil to belive in, something that religion can all gang up on. Satanism isn't the enemy, its just what christian religion is ganging up on this millenium.

pretty much, thats the only thing me or my friends can think of, theres always a scapegoat needed, and this millienia, its satanism, who knows what it will be next millenia.

I'm not a Satanist, but I feel like they have gotten a bad rap. The few Satanists that I know are perfectly decent people, they just worship a bit differently than I do.
I hate hypocrites...one of the principles America was founded on was the FREEDOM OF RELIGION. I may not agree with what you believe in, but I admire your courage to practice what you want.

1. You only pointed out modern satanists . Who have nothing to do with Satan or any other religious deity .
2. I've yet to see statistics that say catholic priests are prone to child abuse . Though some may be , I doubt their occupation has anything to do with it .

i have to completely agree with the second post in this forum,i think everyone needs a scapegoat sometimes to please society.

I also must say that I agree with the idea that people in general will make a scapegoat of what they do not understand especially in the name of religion...oh i truly wonder why people do not think before they speak.
