Why are most ghost sightings at night? Have you ever thought about it? Every picture, Video clip, story is set in the dark...

Why is that?
Are ghosts cursed to stay in the dark, Like vampires?
or are they only able to be seen in the darkness?

well that is the first time I ever heard some one say that they only see the ghost in the dark or at night hummm. I know my family had a haunted house with the ghost of a woman killed there and believe me it did not matter to her if it was daytime or nighttime so this is something new for me.

I mean even Hotels and stuff have sightings during the day or things that happen during the day so, maybe the ones you read about are just night time ghosts, no disrespect either just curious as to why you feel they are always at night and not anytime.

I have seen them during the day, I just think that the people who hunt them look mostly at night

Well, I'm not saying that sightings are limited to the dark/nighttime I was just questioning to why they are mostly seen durring that time.

well... if its a tv your basing this off their gonna do it at night just because night is "dark and scary" but things happen at all times

I think it is that ghosts like to come out at night.

They get to scare easier.

Also, during the day, we aren't really paying attention becuz it is day time, you can see, but like at night, you can't be sure of what you saw.

We just seem to pay more attention at night.

i have seen ghost in the brightness of day as well as night.

Same here, heard of storys of ghosts being seen in daytimes as well as at night.

I have seen them in the day and the night it all depends on when they want to show themselves

The luminosity of the specter is of course more perceptible in the obscurity of night. However, to be sure, the keener eye would be capable of perciving such in the daylight hours as well.

I also have to say that I have witnessed "ghosts" or rather supernatural phenomena in the light of day as well. Maybe you think that because most movies and television shows seem to portray it that way. Much more spookier don't you think....

Id say they are there whether its day or night. Id just whether or not we can perceive them

As I have been told by Mediums Ghost or spirits know no time. They do not go by the time of clocks as we do.

I am not sure because in most haunting cases i take on its during the day. May be people are just scared of the dark?
Because i don't think ghosts have a set time to come out and party.

Well the dark is the color of space,

chao says you can not see in light that you will watch in night.

space is the begining of the creation so the spirits and ghosts which have ligt within seen in dark. the day light can not bring them in the vision.

other reason... to bring them clearly...:

dark always bring silence. in silence conscious always powerful, senses gets boosted. so the paranormal thinly viewable objects too they senses in the dark. Even their senses and conscious get power to ride in the darkst.

I think that most sightins, and stories of sightings are set at night because of the scare factor. During the day, things that happen are often times explainable. But at night, when the house is quiet, everyone is sleeping, no pets etc...things are more scarey.

Well the Dog always alert in the silence.
the factor is only the conscious. not the fear factor.
Street Dogs do not have fear in their streets.

I think it has to do with the lighting, many shadows and eye movement at dark, Our eyes seem to wander alot at night because the lack of sight in distance, so we do see more spirits at night, but they are always around in my opinion.

Because we want/expect to see them in the dark. What story or movie do you see anything in the daytime. Plus most of us are working to even notice who is around us let alone a ghost.

Dabbler as for a possessive Ghost I do not think it would matter if it was day or night once they possess someone or something... there are still 24 hours in a day .

I feel the reason that you hear mostly that it is night is just how the hunters on TV want it to be as for lighting and such. I mean ghost haunt anytime they have no time zone. Yet I do understand what your saying about the night time thing.. it is spoke of more often.

Most times you hear about ghost only at night is because of the whole night is evil and day is good and that kind of shit but in reality Ghosts will come and go as they please if you belive in that sort of thing I for one have never seen a ghost but i know real people in my life who have no joke

I find nights calm a person down, they are tired, up past their bed time.. I like to be active at that hour, people are less likely to come snooping around a dark area after I manifest (usually knocking something over in the process.) I mean it is embarrassing being a ghost, i don't really want people to see me? i just want to be close to people. Listen in to hear any reference to me.

I would agree that most claims to see ghosts take place in the dark. Not necessarily at night, but usually in poorly lit circumstances.

I would suggest that the reason for this is fairly simple. Humans are incredibly visual beings. Our sight is perhaps our most developed sense and the one upon which we rely most often. In the dark that makes us feel very vulnerable as we've lost the ability to know much about the world around us. So stories about most myths and spooky entities tend to take place in darkened environments.

As many times as I see claims of people seeing ghosts, we never seem to be offered any evidence, just claims.

When sight is limited we use our other senses, sound being the popular one in line in the dark. The common sighting (at night) is an apparition this would suggest a light source manipulated by interactive environmental factors. Sound like echoes, or funneled noise (usually drowned out by day activity.) are more attention getting at later hours. there are also less things taxing the senses at night.

That's absolutely true, dabbler. That said, it's often the feeling of vulnerability that seems to spawn these "sightings". I can recall as a child being quite prone to believing in spirits, ghosts, souls, etc. I had more than one experience of waking to note some dark figure standing in the corner of my room and several times as I strained to remain still and try to muster the courage to investigate, I was nearly certain I saw this dark form move.

When I finally gathered the courage to reach for the light, I'd find that I had flung my coat into the corner and forgotten I'd left it there. Other times it was my robe in a place I had inadvertently left it. Of course had I not gathered the courage to investigate, I might be sitting here with several others proclaiming I'd seen a dark spirit, ghost, demon or what have you, as a child. And some would be quick to tell me that as a child, I'd have greater insight into the paranormal simply because children are more inclined to accept things at face value without adequate investigation.

Fortunately for me, I did investigate and every single time I did, I found purely rational naturalistic explanations for what I had seen.

But in each case, it started with vulnerability due to a decrease in visual acuity. From there the imagination takes over and if one doesn't cling to rationality for courage, their unfounded fears and beliefs can lead them to believe just about anything.

The ghost i saw when i moved into our farm house was during the day.. So i for sure saw one during the day.. didn't make it less scary..

it was indoors. At the top of the stairs.. She kinda just looked at us and smiles and vanished..

I dont think ghosts come out only in the dark... I think thats the only time that people look for them.

Well I did not see yet, but did have one clear cut experience of the para-psychic.

one early morning around 3.30 a.m. i got get down the building and go to cross road to grab taxi there taxi stand the cross road stuated 300-400 meters away from our colony and 500 meters away from my building. I had a bath before get down. when I came out of colony, on road there was one big tree ( actually it was two trees jointly become one tree by grafting, pinpal and banyan) of which main branch spread over te whole width ofthe road and mora than that. as soon as I passed that tree, some one lie 150 lbs some thing jumped over it from at least 3 - 4 meters abovethe main branch. I surprised on this splash sound. there heard no brd flying from the tree. the colony situated very in the midst of city and there jungle things were impossible. after 3 seconds of this thought taken place ( by that time I passed 6-7 steps forward) I turned back to the tree and gave a look over tree. the main branchwas still swinging like pendulam upward and down ward. I was confused there was no one. I went to cross road awaked a taxi drver and took the cab. when i sat in cab to take it to my building for my family to go out of state to he maternal place. After sitting in the cab I gave the thought over incidence and second time i had the bath t was this time swet bath.

I believe its the humans that are more sensitive to notice them at night then when its daytime!

Well, the ghosts that I have seen are in the shape of an orb of light, making it nearly impossible to see during the day, so my belief is that they are out during the day, just can't see them.

The ghosts I am familiar with are human or animal shaped apparitions and appear day or night in my house. 5 total. Old man, old woman, teenage girl, young preteen boy, and a gray squirrel.

Yes they're like vampires in away that they are mainly nocturnal but there are daywalker ghosts too it's just a whole helluva lot harder to spot them.

yes, i have also noticed that, i find it sort of stupid because i have seen ghost's during the day but never at night.

its not that a ghost is doomed to roam in darkness only well not entirely anyways the thing is they do appear in the day time too you just cant see them cause how are you going to see a white ghost in daylight?

When you see them in movies or TV its more dramatic to see them at night. There are incidences where ghosts have been reported being seen during the day

I think a lot of people mostly see them at night though because they're either afraid *a lot of people are still very scared of the dark* or they're half asleep.

Probably because ghosts would need less energy to manifest at night. More lights come on at night making it easier to see them. Contrast and whatnot.

Ghosts can be spotted in the day and night.
Most sightings of ghosts are seen at night, because its more quiet and less people are around at night, so ghosts are more noticible, but it depends on the situation and place you are in.

Some people are more sensitive to seeing ghosts then others. I think ghosts only appear to people who they want to show themselves to, so they appear more at night when there are less people around, and show themselves to a person who is alone.

I saw a ghost for the first time during the day...he was barely visible in the light but he was there...I think it is easier to see them in the dark because of the lack of light except for the energy they are using to show themselves

Ive seen many a ghost during the day which is alot of my problem with many ghost hunting shows they should set up cameras for a few day at least 48 hours and do their invetigations at night then review all the evidence and see what they find

Yea, I think its a misconception that ghosts are more active at night. I've had just as many experiences in the daylight as I have a night.

People see 'ghosts' more at night because there are more shadows at night. The majority of 'ghost' sightings can be written off as an overactive imagination brought on by seeing shadows and other perfectly normal things when there's not enough light.

If you believe that many apparitions feed off energy from humans in order to manifest, then it stands to reason that there will be more in the daytime as there are more people around. Our minds are just not attuned to seeing things that we associate with the dark, when it's daylight. People won't see what they don't want to, or don't expect to see.

Again I believe its just from what people see on T.V. or the movies that they generalize their sightings to be at night. I'm sorry if I come off as a non-believer, but until proven otherwise, I'll steadfast to what I believe.

I believe spirits are around us all of the time; it just may be that more sightings are possible during the night hours as there are less visual or audio distractions of daily life.

Although people occasionally experience apparitions and entities during the day, most sightings do occur at night. It is also believed that apparitions are a form of energy, and that sightings do indeed increase in both strength and clarity under certain atmospheric conditions that are unusually high in electrical or electromagnetic energy.

Well here it goes they come out in daytime and dark people just are not sentive or not looking they are always trying to speak you just have to listen.

Its easier to see the image of a ghost at night but they are out during the day. U just dont see them unless u are looking for them

i think you can see them both in day and night as my moms house is hunted by a little girl and my mom told me that toys from my od room and sisters room have been thrown from the doon to thehallway so it can happen in both. i saw her wheni used to live there and was told it was all in my head and belived it till now that my mom said it wasnt and that she has seen or heard her.

ghosts can be seen both in the day and at night, you will notice a lot of shows will film at night or will take photos at night, it because there is minimal light disterbance, just say its the middle or the dayhow do you know that the dark figure is a ghosts or a shadow?

It was day time when i saw the ghost at the top of the stairs..It was not as scary in the day though..

The night is quieter, people are more likely to be spooked. But it doesn't only happen at night. And because of that, most things blamed on ghosts at night usually aren't ghosts.

If it's a true spirit, it doesn't care what time of the day it is.

Thinking about it, I have never seen a spirit in the dark. Just as well, I'd probably have a heart attack lol

Seriously, if I was giving someone a demonstration of mediumship I would think doing so in the dark would freak them out a little.

I don't believe that all ghosts are only visible at night.
Some are sure but there are ghosts that are visible during the day as well.
When we saw our cousin's grandma it was during daylight hours.
Someone told me that sometimes the time of day a ghost can be seen could be the time they met their death and are sort of trapped in that time so that is why they show themself when they do.
I don't know this to be true but guess it is a thought that could be possible, although i don't believe it is always a feasible explanation for when a ghosts appears.

Ghosts have been photographed in day too, as many have said in this thread.

But it's easier to see them in pictures at night, because of the contrast of the dark and they are light, and showing up as light and balls of light. =)

Also, they are attracted to electrical items because of the energy and candles. They prefer the night. 3am is considered dead time, where it's supposed to be more active, but I have also heard it's anywhere from 12am to 6am. And from all I have seen and experienced personally, I know paranormal shit can happen ANYTIME.

I have not seen a ghost during the day but I have felt their presents. I think it is because darkness we tend to focus a lot more.

The dark just seems to make people more aware. Darkness is some peoples scariest times. Thus alowing events to happen more easily. Your sences are more active at night, then during the day. You train yourself to pick up more at night if you will. I also think that's when the most paranormal activity is. Although it can happen either day or night. Just when things are more active

I have experinced them day and night, but mostly at night.

I have seen things and ghosts or spirits and strange sightings in the daytime as well as night. I think the one reason that most times you hear of things at night is because I guess that people think it is spookier that way or something.

Hm good question! Maybe it's because ghost are glowing energy and energy can only be seen in darkness? like a spark or electricity perhaps?

whe you develip a photo you need complete darkness, that way the image will surface, ghosts are not photo's, they maynot be as visable in the day as night, but you do see them in the day.

Probably because during the daylight there is too much sun for a ghost to be truly visible.

There are sightings during the day, I think most are noticed at dark mainly because it is so quiet.

In my experience as a ghost huntress, I have seen many in the light of day. However, due to the transperancy of many of them, it is difficult to see them during the day because, like looking at smoke with a light shining on it during broad daylight, they become even more transaprent. However, the onesthat havea little more substance to them they are easily seen at night as well as the middle of the day.

It just seems to me like the night time is the best time for anything. If you think about it, would anyone really be afraid during the day? At night most people are already afraid cause it's dark and you can't see what's around you. So really it's just apart of fears that people already have. If you were a ghost would you find it worth your time or energy to haunt during the day without people already having the fear of night on there minds?

Why would it's preference have anything to do with it? A ghost can't have much control over it's appearence can it?

Maybe it's because you're usually in your most relaxed mental state at night and are more open to seeing such things because you're not so occupied with your daytime activities that you don't notice.

When it is daytime you can not see the stars. They are still there, but the light of the sun over powers them. To see something rather opaque and translucent in broad daylight would be far more difficult than to see it in minimal lighting.

Well considering sleep is to rejuvenate the body and muscles, I would assume that ghosts would not need to sleep.

But would they do it out of simple habit?

It's said that some ghosts do not realize they are ghosts. Do they carry on what they feel to be normal activities because they don't realize they're dead?


Although if that were the case then it would go against the idea that ghosts are normally seen at night as most would be sleeping unless, while they were alive, they worked graveyard shift.

Yeah the whole being able to go through walls thing would generally alert me to the fact I am dead.

I think nighttime may help as well in the fact that there are less visual distractions.

There are dofferent kinds of spirits some are considered intelligent ghosts with whom you can cummunicate.
Others dont know they are even dead and really don't realize what they are doing...you cannot cumminicate with them.

Then there is imprints...it is not really a ghost just an imprint of something that happened repeating this usualy happens around the same time everyday.

And last there are spirits that have crossed over jusvisiting you, friends or loved ones. They drop pennies, ring your phone, move your stuff around, or if given enough strength even say words.

Night or day it really doesn't matter like i said before, night time is more quiet, things have settled down, people are relaxed, so you notice better.

i believe like nista our minds are more relaxed at night and are more open to the other things..

i too am of the opinion that minds are more open to such things in darkness, so the invitation is more likely to be there

i don't believe spirits are more active at night, i think it's definitely more that people's perceptions are more acute and the ability to detect the tell-tale signs with your naked eye is greater

plus, many will see 'ghosts' at night because they associate darkness with something possibly frightening

I've seen pictures of them during the day, but I would imagine it's easier to see luminescence at night. Or, it just could be the adding to the "scary" factor.

i think the night,has a certain kind of energy that the day does not have and thats why most sightings occur in the night.

The ghosts in my house, the ones that actually protect me, they show their presence all day, every day. The night just makes them stronger. Like it's their sorce of energy.

i think most people see ghosts at night because you expect to see them at night and if you expect to see somthing your mind plays tricks on you but in the day you probs never think about a ghost popping up.

Ghosts are there no matter if it is day or night. It is a misconception that ghosts only come out during the night. If they are there, then they will be there day or night, it’s not a theory, some experienced ghost hunters have caught some of their best ghost hunting evidence during the daylight hours.

Ghosts can be hunted during the day or night. It's easier to pick them up on camera if shot at night because their reflection is brighter than the background (dark). Plus, during the day, you have the possibility of "lens flair" happening. Lens flare happens when the sun and the camera lens is at the right angle to produce a colorful "orb" or "orbs". All ghost hunters want to catch ghosts on camera or film, but when we eliminate all "natural" events that could have made that ghost picture, what we're left with is paranormal... Something that shouldn't be there, but is. When all other factors have been ruled out, we believe this may be ghosts.

Audio can be picked up during the daylight hours as well, but the ghost hunter must be aware of his/her surroundings. Highways, lawnmowers, and other daytime routine noise can cause interference and you may mistake EVPs that were nothing more than a car passing by the cemetery. If you are documenting all explainable noises that occur during this time, then identifying true EVPS will be a easier process and you will not make the mistake of focusing on something that really is nothing.

Night ghost hunting does have advantage on the audio front. Sound does travel father at night, and the daytime routine noises, are generally non-existent.

i think the main thing is that during the day we are to busy to notice if a ghost is around....but yet they are still there. I think another thing is that we think they need to stay in the dark so we dont pay attention when they do come out in the day time...i have heard voices in the day time of spirits but never really paid any attention to them...

Ghosts/Spirits appear via night or day.. they have no time that they can or can't appear. Stay open-minded on that and may just one day see..

i have never seen them during the day- that dosn't mean that they aren't there, i am sure if they wanted to show themselves during the day i am sure they would.
