Ok is it wrong to charge money for your gifts if some one asks you for your help? if you charge what do you charge? how do you no what to charge

what gifts do you have that people would want to use?

or do you trade for the use of them

Dominar Edit: CryingMoon is asking if it is wrong to charge for magickal services (house cleansing, tarot readings, etc); and if you do charge - what are your rates and how do you determine them.

Of course it's clearly up to you the amount you charge.

My mother always charged and still does charge her clients for the amount equal to the supplies she uses. Depending on the spells, it could be almost $300 to a mere $10. It just depends on the supplies that are used.

Charging on the amount the supplies were might be a smart route to go with, but again it's completely up to you.

If you're good at something, never do it for free.

If I walked into a gift shop, picked out an item and paid for it, I'd think it was wrong of them to accept my money if what I bought wasn't what they claimed it to be.

As a second consideration; assuming the "gift" really is what it is proclaimed to be, how much did you pay for it? If you paid for it, would it still be a "gift"? And if you received it without having to pay for it, why should anyone else have to pay for it? I think if people stopped charging, far fewer people would be "claiming" they have such a gift.

As for charging for services, that's one of the oldest professions. You have one who wants to sell and one who wants to buy. No one gets hurt. It's not something of which I'd partake but if two people agree to the arrangement, I see nothing wrong with it. It's rather like a drug deal.

I think, if it involved using an item that I had to go out and buy that may cost a lot, then yes.

If it was a significant other, family member, or a friend that I have known FOREVER, then no.

Depending on the service rendered. Society has become all about the money and no matter what everything is not given at no cost. yet Some still hold the values of yester year and do not charge for gifts we will say to friends or family.

si is it wrong at this point in our life no. depending on the service given.

I think that depends on the individual, and the circumstances they find themselves in financially.

I know several people who do not charge for their services, but then they have no need, as they are finacially secure.

Gifts of the kind you speak of are never given freely to a person, they are earned....often hard earned.

Rather than charge a fee, I accept a "love offering". This way, the client determines the "value" of the service. It works for me.... I find it hard to put a price on a "spiriutual gift".

Well stated leo, once agin, yet we must determine the gift in all cases. A token of love or friendship. A member that i had been talking to when i first joined had gave me a premuim membership, A gift valued and very much appreciated. and I eventyally bought a full membership.

Card readings my aunt has always done this for the family and friends and expect nothing in return. so there are ways that money at this point is useless to the other.

Of course it is not wrong to charge, as long one is effective in its own capabilities, and not a fake, and if one is a fake, and manages to get away with it, well than he probably deserves all he got away with.

Like other have been saying, if supplies are involved then it is okay to charge, but if it deals with a psychic reading or anything of the sort, if I had a gift that could help people with spirits, I wouldn't charge. It's just who I am, I would do it to help people and not expect anything in return.

I charge personally.

If it takes away from time to be doing other things that go in my day that contribute to my finacial well being then damn skippy im gonna put a rate on it.

How i determine my rate is simple, how many hours of all my jobs do i work? how much sleep do i get? how much extra work do i have to in order to get this shit settled? what materials do i need? what preparations need to go into them? what do i have to do in order to insure that sucess was made? what reservations are had about the situation and what methods can be researched more deeply before the work, as well as the cost of the research materials to ensure efficacy?

this all rates up to starting around 300 bucks...the trickier things which require specific use age of demonic works, as well as divine works gets into the 1-4000 dollar range with the materials, and effort required in order to make sure the working comes off without a problem. I generally dont have any money left after all is said and done because it goes into the materials...which is suck because that would be enough money do to many more things with then a single working, but good works cost. I just offer services, if they want the service bad enough, they will supply the means required to ensure its efficiency.

Professional Life, I am employed person. Personal Life, I do not charge anything for anything I can do in rest time for others in my capacity.

any soecial gifts I do not have my own, but if any one come to me to render my services in remaining time, I do that without any charge.

but i can not be servant to them ( not rendering the services on daily basis by binding my personal life away from attending my own family).

Yes when it come to my hobbies, I can guide others free of charge, say if oen need to talk on meditation, i can talk them for hours to boost them to do so and solve their queries.

My net sister's husband was the preachure in the church in her village and professionaly he was weilder.

Social reasoning for paying a person for something is correct, we work we get payed this is life;

yet in all lines of work they have what they clall charity cases or loss for it looks good when tax man comes around.

so gifts are welcome and some are in need of it. but it is the choice of the individual and their descion.

I have read for the American tarot association and paided to become a member. I read for free. If working a psychic fair I receive 10 dollars for each reading I do. To me and this is only my thought for myself...if I read for more then ten-dollars, I feel as tho I have misused a gift that was given to me.

The practice of allowing a client, sitter assess the service after is not always
Viable, though an assuring practice, if a set fee is paid, and the person is none the "enlightened" in the area they mentioned to the reader, a feeling of
Animosity may develop. Set fees are common practice in carnival readers, which also advertise as strictly for entertainment, I have found how transparent I am through one such reader, and dated her as well..
Through dating her I learned of the unscrupulous practices if Tellers,
Hidden charges, and curse divining, all used to invite more sessions
With more suprise fees.

When practices are ran in such ways it is usually a none fixed location
Is it wise for a person who goes to a psychic, or a person that practices craft
To ask for, and expect references?

Even perhaps a second opinion?

Personal choice in my opinion. I don't posses any spiritual gifts that I feel I could actually charge for unless someone is looking for spirited conversation, or spirited banter, or spirited debate, well you get the point.

However I am a photographer and I consider my photography my art. I don't really charge friends or family and I tend to charge half what the other pros do. That's a personal choice for me though, because I don't think of it as work, it's just what I love to do.

Though when people choose to bless me with twice what I charge or an asked for gift, I'm grateful and feel as though I must have done a exceptional job.

If you bill yourself an entertainer, there is a contract, in Oregon I worked for
A Candy Gram place dispace. Magicians, juggler, gambling western style, even an improve troupe. Some events are done for promotion. Mediums and parlor mixers (common on collage full moon parties) others like host a murder are charged by person. Clinical advisers are usually one free consultation trial, and a press to scedule further sessions for depth.
I took a course in a (. .) class. Same thing I learned in lay counseling
Courses through church.

When large amounts of money are involved consider asking for a portfolio
Posting, consider, and discuss any questions press for answers if they rephrase your question and then confsdrntly answer.

Consider things hidden behind free.

Some create an envirnment that is open to inspiration this site is an example, craft medium cost money, but is accounted for, being part of the process and learning is a workshop activity. Lodging is to be considered, travel. I know guided painters that charge a paint set and a weekend at a time share. People throw up vile poison on canvass, leave painting trees from two angles.

Accounting for monetary exchange is good for record.
Non profit religions hold fixed tithes, and offer frequent guest invite seminars
Socializing is just as attractive as the venues theme.

Value is very much case by case, quality and forward transactions should
Be Fair, this is coming from a carny.

The feeling that you get at the pit of your stomach should let you know if it is wrong. If you feel uncomfortable in any way shape or form for having the idea of charging for your gift, then do not do it.

Common sense really.

Having a progressive price listing based on the time material travel if that arrangement is made then document the transaction. Sketchy people dictate
Odd underhanded transactions. People pay to hear flattering things relative to them.. A good service breaks a stubbling block of social nature, I like Sally for this reason she has showmanship down to a spiritually up lifting
Glipses of phenomena. Promotion, and how you classfy your traing and practice time per student, let's not forget student fees.

I don't know about the profesional arrangements, but if they pay for arranging the thing to serve the arts, if they charge, noting is wrong in it. if they charge for conveyance and hopitability they providing at some cost is paid, what is the harm in charging...

I know my two friends one from dark vampire side and one from light divine side both did read the tarot for me.

even dark tarot reader friend started teaching me online. but i never been a good student of the akashic arts or tarots. my aim those time was different. I wanted to know the realms of para-psychics and wanted to familier with them in their active appearance and related arts coz I knew that living para-psychic too exist. now its all calmed down.

coz I had to stop all type of exercises immediately.

they did not charge from me coz i was friend to them and one honorable loved to teach me. she took me to different sites to make me in knowledges of arcana.
she believed boldly that being meditator it will go easy for me. but i could not learn more than major arcana's feature. they both were my covenant in the same clan we formed calling the best from different site groups.

now the clan is abandoned due to it was bymistakely in adult groups of that site and one member was underage on that site. though clan did have g type and not related to gender or sex or sexuality and lustful behavier was prohibited there, but it was against the universal adopted rule of adult group we could not break and could not demoralise the underage in living. coz we were equal there ignoring the race of age, experience and knowledge etc etc.

Still they all saying to form the clan again coz they loved such existence.

Both Honorable were good tarot reader, but I was a gump that left learning that art from her.

Yes thou true, Forrest Gump was a best character earned the award to his film and champion in the football he was not the dump as i am. I am mere a dump my brain is idiot dome.

dont go on my antonyms i do track myself with them by punishing my self with those words as gump which I am not. But this too is the mad act.

but really i loved those art and the base behind it. Even when they charge the cards with such a love and charm that they put them stitched to cushion cover, it is amazing. this is why i love this art and accept their readings. its not show business at all. its meditation some art... its too a part an art of sorcery. and if they charge for this, its not the wrong coz they do pay for this the much.

I have been a spiritualist for over forty years and I have to say even in that community that believes in mediumship and the like they will give warnings. No one who does readings of any type will be 100 percent correct. Bearing that in mind one should be discerning on how much one is willing to pay for any of these services. People I was around called high fees an abuse of power so they avoided that and tried to work via prosperity laws. What you give you will receive back in kind ten fold. It is the only place I ever heard of ten fold and had nothing to do with karmic law or anything like that as far as what some call "dark practices." Also not everyone believed in it. Some believed this and were very discriminating on what they charged. Like anything else in life some are more talented in these areas so they draw more clientele. This takes them out of the area of the occasional reading or activity for friends, whatever it might be and their time is taken up. Alleviating this is to charge for the practice. If it is a fair price I see no reason not to. If you played guitar and were being requested to play at many parties and the like after awhile you would be forced to charge for your services and time. This is no different. I see it more as a talent. Everyone has the capacity but some will excel in this area and stand out and those that do will be sought after and have no time if they succumb to requests to work a normal job. So doing whatever actitivy whether it be tarot, voice vibrational readings, magickal servies and what have you they would need an income for all these services they were providing.

As far as con artists...you can find that in any profession.

Half at booking. Look at Peoples Court, in most student of any craft those that join bring their supplies, or pitch the pot for dues.

I live on the principle; you have recieved for free, you have been given the gift for free then give freely, give to those who needs, do not ask to be paid, to do not expect to be paid, as you have not paid to get it then do not charge in return.

It does not mean you can not recieved if someone wishes to give you something, but do NOT expect anything. Otherwise it is sort of abusing the gift that you have been handed for free. Sort of like "selling" your gift.

That is my view. Anyone is in title to their opinion.

Can't wait to find someone who's gift it is to cook. :D

OK, here's the deal since this topic keeps coming up. Many people would just love to get things for free. I personally find them lazy. Either physically or mentally. Nothing personally but lets face it - nothing is free. You should expect to earn it in Life. At least in someway or another. Nothing wrong with asking for help. But again ... why this free thing? What makes you think that anything someone does for you should be free? Its Laziness in its simple form and arrogance at its best. Don't matter if it is from their heart or not. There is a word for that too - taken advantage of. OK, three words.

Now for the real deal for these gifted ones. There is an Universal Law that simply states that nothing is given free. There NEEDS to be an exchange given. Even in Ritual, an offering is given. A healing that takes place, NEEDS a barter or exchange to truly work. Money is just an easy form to barter but it does not need to be the only kind. There are other reasons too why payment is needed but this should answer your questions.

For those of you who say that the gift is free? or that what is learned should be given free. Then I will respond very simply.

Were the materials used to get good at it free? For all the hundreds and thousands of dollars spent on getting materials, and references built up, and learned from, free?

Was time and effort and gas money getting to and from venues free? Was the gas free? What about the countless hours spent honing ones skill in that art free? or did it come at the cost because you couldn't go off and do other things which take less effort? There is payment, and a lifetime of non-equal exchange for every single reading done by someone skilled. No one could really afford the hours and materials costs if someone was legit in their works. Only a wealthy individual could gain from the services offered and at points required in life by someone skilled in an art or trade.

Excuse me I meant portfolio. Most arts have Portflios, teachers have student portfolios, a student of any art can determine studio space a far exchange for learning fees. As long as the fee is up front and none progressive. I find odd payment request are the hall mark of hustling readers. Pressuring sitters with Alluded to Curses, should consider a nonrelated unrefered reading, something to consider is going with a friend as well. A hustler will seldom play a punter with a witness present, unless the witness is an unknowing stooge.

As mentioned before any number of practices have swindlers, psychics are no different.

If I choose any art for career and earning, I am definitely going charge for may it be consulting or counselling, may it be guiding to any path or may it be giving the output what they ask me for, may it be akashik records, I do not know this art, may it be tarot reading or vision. I know the huge amount o energies are wasted in these art to get output and mind may become tired. But in friendship and common friendly purpose I will not charge anything. the both way is honorable to me.

Some want to be charged so they can dispute the service, they don't usually want anything but someone to transfer the results from an unsatisfying life, psycologist discontinue such cases, or refer them to other services.

A persons skill, and practice must be considered by the person using their services. How long a person has been located in any given spot is
a valid telling question.

when i was a wiccan, i was always told that one should never charge for their gifts....im older now tho. my thought is now this: if one has another gift...say, someone has a talent with computers, its only natural that they would charge for their services. if someone is good with horses, they charge to train horses for you. similarly, if someone has a good or service that they can make money on, then i see no problem with doing so, and best of luck to them.

I feel what you should realise is that by not charging people for your services some small minded people may feel that the service you offer has no worth so the commitment from the individual or group may be limited.

The price that is charged by some though isn't always a reflection on how good/practiced they are. There are people out there who charge a shed load and are terrible at what they do!

So I suppose it is neither wrong nor right. You of course will do what you feel is right and sometimes just sometimes, it is nice to give and not receive.

Maybe I'll do a thread something about Universal Laws. Many are willing to follow them now. They're not easy. They fit into that third Higher Path that some have heard about. But for this thread I would also like to add something else to this free offering of gifts. There may be a chance that many here are trying to offer free services beacuse it makes them feel better in someway. They may not be too sure of why. "Deep down it just feels right." Sounds familar? Do a search on "Karma Yoga." If this lights the light bulb for ... you may be right not charge for these services.

I believe there should always be some sort of exchange of energy. You don't necessarily have to charge $$, but could set up some type of barter. Each person should get something out of the transaction. If the person is financially strapped, maybe they could help you clean or something. I've found if you give your services for free, people aren't as grateful.

It is your perogative. As you have the choice to charge people for our gifts, people have the choice to pay or not.

Although, if someone needs your help and you refuse to aid them just because they don't have money, I wouldn't say you have a gift, i'd say you have an advantage.

I find it hard to charge a fixed fee. If I charge $60/hr, then people will expect everything I tell them to be wary of over the course of the next 30-60 days to occur. As we are creatures of "free will" and "free choice", we can prevent events from occuring.

If you had to pay for it, then it wasn't a "gift".

I have to grin just a little at the thought of psychics having to ask other psychics on a message board if it's okay to charge for what they do. Apparently, either the spirits don't know or they're not saying.

Or....

I believe that it is wrong to charge for using a 'gift' if the said gift is mediumship and the like.

For spells, where ingredients are used then fair enough, they cost money.

I have known a great many mediums to loose their gift once they started to charge, My mother would never ever charge for using her gift, and has always instilled in me that those who do are charlitans, and quite often fakes.

the law of the power states that you should not charge money for the use of the power for it quickly controls its taker. i do not hold completely tight to this however. i advertise that i accept a recommended ($) donation for services. i however will not refuse to help someone if they need me. i justify the donations as a compensation for my time and supplies (gas, wear n tear on cards, incense, etc.)
But this is just me and i say to each his own methods of madness, so do what you do.

We live in a monetary system … you need to charge.
If we didn’t live in a monetary system and instead of weapons of mass destruction we made weapons of mass creation .. we would have technology do as told so well in the Zeitgeist Addendum our needs as humans.
You would then paint a nice picture and feel good giving it to someone else to experience rather than charge.
You would read someone’s hand for pleasure rather than money… no money no crimes related to money.. greed and hardship gone… can you imagine that?

It is not so much that you charge for your gifts. Time is a crucial thing. The energy used when doing a Tarot Reading or something to that effect is quite a bit. So you are basically charging for time and energy. If you have to travel than you want to replace the gas in your tank.

If we lived in a day and age where everything was on a trade and barder system, the person with the gifts wouldn't charge. (That was the way it was in the olden days.)

If you don't already know without having to ask people in an online forum, how can you really claim to have this supposed "gift"?

If you have to ask others then I think the claim that you possess any kind of psychic ability is arguable at best. Therefore, it would be wrong (fraud), to charge for psychic services.

I found the variation that appealed to me the least about psychic consultations is the inability of most claimed psychics to present disclosure, this is something I read in another sites forum. The psychics that Advertise themselves as for entertainment only tend to have fixed rates, and a set pitch, I learn about myself, and how I appear to others.
There is no mystic pretense, or inflated expectation of some spiritual
"One stop epithany", I feel people expecting such things comes from those who present their gift as something deep, and Spiritual, Appealing to those who seek to be ditracted from emotional termoil.

Most statements that believers make are in response to skeptics.

With the exception of Psychic readers who advertise themselves as
Entertainment/Novalty only.

They usually charge from 15-to 25 dollars (census from online readers) I found few phone psychics in the US then I did in Britain
3 pd per 3 min. average reading 20 min.

Re: "Having a gift does not mean one is all knowing beastt17."

No one is suggesting that it does. Perhaps it needs to be stated, though I thought it might be obvious enough; the knowledge of how to use a "gift" does not equate to knowing everything. It's a singular, pertinent and vital part of using the "gift", is it not?

So are you suggesting one would receive the "gift" of communication with the spirit-world and yet the spirit world cannot advise one on whether or not to use it for personal monetary gain? What good is knowledge from the spirit world if the spirits can't even tell you whether or not you should use the knowledge to make money?

I think it's clear enough; if you have to ask, you have no need to know.

On the contrary Beastt17, when you wrote :

It implied that a person should know more than they perhaps claim.

Your question re communicating with spirits implies that someone other than myself makes my decisons for me, certainly that is not so.

Sinora,

Re: "On the contrary Beastt17, when you wrote :

'If you don't already know without having to ask people in an online forum, how can you really claim to have this supposed 'gift'?'

It implied that a person should know more than they perhaps claim."

Not at all. It would appear that you're perhaps missing the point. When one claims to have this "gift", it is they who are implying access to advanced knowledge of things spiritual, which would include things of a moral nature. And the whole point of asking this question is toward the point of a moral judgment.
---

Re: "Your question re communicating with spirits implies that someone other than myself makes my decisons for me, certainly that is not so."

And yet look to the questing posed in the opening post? Is this not a request for input to help people form an answer to a question for which they seem lost for an answer? And look to whom they are asking. Is it spirits?

No, it's just people. So what we have is people who are claiming to be able to extract greater knowledge by conversing with the "spirit world", and yet when it comes to the simple, yet moral question; should I charge for my communications with the spirit-world, they go not to the spirits with whom they claim the ability to communicate, but to members of an on-line forum, most of whom they don't even know.

So again, my point is this -- if you have to ask, then you have no need to know. Because the ability you're claiming and considering charging for, is obviously not an ability you possess.

So again, my point is this -- if you have to ask, then you have no need to know. Because the ability you're claiming and considering charging for, is obviously not an ability you possess.

Psychic ability has little to do with morals.

IMO and experience there is nothing wrong or "bad" about charging one for materials used. I believe it would be up to the indvidual as to charging a person for the service provided. Example .. my father owns a home improvements business; he does alot of contracted work, as well as work for family members. Regardless of the job, materials and time are involved; if he were to always pay for materials himself he would have gone broke in his first year. In the same regard when he does work for family members, he will charge for the materials but will give them a break on his fee for the service he provides. Point being, wither it is for family, friends or strangers charging for materials is in most cases expected. It would be up to you if you wished to charge for your time. Some "jobs" may take 10 minutes but cost $300 for materials; do you always have that kind of money to invest in a stranger for every service you provide? You'ld go broke in no time at all.

What I meant Dabbler was that morals and ethics don't go hand in hand with psychic gifts.

A person does'nt have to be deemed 'good' to own such gifts.

In the cases of those who practice metapsysics as an allesged alternative to
Mental, or medical practices, I would be conserned about that statement.

This is why I place psychic "gifts" in the commonly excepted context of entertainment, and novalty.

Are all psychics out to scam? No but those that bill themselves as some how mystically aligned charge much higher, and are exposed most often as lacking scrupules. To that you can agree I am sure?

After reading the vagly worded code of ethics on a few "psychic" institutes I remain as skeptic as before that the psychic community is policing itself.

I don't know what laws if any exist in the USA regarding psychics/mediums etc.

Here in the UK the Witchcraft act of 1735 is still active.

What regulation do they place on Readings, I hear the UK has the higher fraud practice rate as well. Here ad restrictions require the Entertainment only disclaimer, though many use loop holes in other regulation to by pass such regulation.Presenting themselves as Clinical, or spiritual alternative practices. The real money makers are the seminar/ workshop "psychics".

There are a couple of intereting sites one of which is :

Witchcraft Law in Early Modern England ( sorry can't do links )

As it happens I am watching a prog now about Helen Duncan who was the last person who was arrested during the 2nd world war.

MI5 was concerned that her evidence of survival concerning a sailor from a ship that was sunk and given to a family member before news was actually released.

I know the question is "is it wrong to charge for your gifts?"...my answer is never charge for helping someone. However, there are more fakes than real ones in all walks of life, includeing spiritualists. So be carefull where you spend your money or even your time.

outside looking in that "insight" is trivial, but the one "astonishing" thing gets
Them dazed.

So perhaps a question just as valid is how much is to much for something?

I wonder if there is anyone here who feels they have spent too much money on such things, or indeed feels they may have a dependancy on mediums etc ?
